Satellite L300-20W - DVD will not play

Satellite L300-20W.
Laptop CD in WMP fine plays.
However if I try to play a DVD I get the message "Windows Medial Player cannot play the DVD because no compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer."

If I try to use a Toshiba DVD player, a box opens (with clouds in there) and almost immediately I get the message "Toshiba DVD Player has stopped working" and then "Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available," but of course he never advise me.

Any help much appreciated. (Old man and not very technical)
Thank you very much.

Hello

Regarding the error code: Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because no compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer. »

It seems that your Windows Media Player does not have the necessary plugin DVD decoder that allows you to watch DVDs.
See this MS knowledge base article:
http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306331

I also recommend to install a codec that allows you to watch other videos stored in other formats.
K - lite Mega Codec Pack is free and contains all the codecs.

If you are not able to use the Toshiba DVD software you must reinstall this tool.
I think that the most recent version is released on the European driver Toshiba page.

  • Why some DVDs will not play in my computer DVD player?

I have a small collection of commercial DVD movies.  Most of them come from the place of the U.S. market, and some come from Asia... He play ALL these DVD in my Phillips DVD player that is connected to my TV.

But only some of these DVD will play in my DVD player which is in my computer Dell Inspiron 531 with Windows 7 Ultimate edition.  This computer has a DVD/CD SAMSUNG HD161HJ SCSI disk drive.

Some of the DVDs that will play on my computer are the American market, and some of them are of the Asian market, so I don't think that this has nothing to do with why some of these DVDs will not play on my computer.

DVDs that play fine in my Phillips DVD on my TV player that will not play on my computer don't yet seem to close at play on my computer.  The DVD that will play on my computer liquidation (you can hear the noise) in the DVD player in 20 seconds and they start playing automatically in Windows Media Player... but I welcomed all others who won't have to sit in the DVD player for several minutes each in my tests and nothing happens... There is no wind sound and all nothing is happening on the computer screen.

This doesn't seem to be a problem with the driver software for the disk hard because some of the DVDs will play.

None of these DVDs are buckled and all of them are clean.

I tried two or three times test each of DVDs that won't play, the removed from drive and put them back in.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Hi Dale,

Although I never had no problem with the DVD or the CD I burned on PC, I think you're going to probably the same thing, that I've been with this internal DVD/CD player, is not a software problem, but just the characteristics of a lower quality DVD/CD player, and it isn't necessarily the symptoms of a dying man in car , but just a stock car low quality that some computer manufacturers cut corners with.
The drive in the computer that I was referring in this thread is a DVD/CD SAMSUNG HD161HJ SCSI disk drive. Which may or may not be identical or similar to the reader, you have problems with, but the computer on which the reader is underway is a Dell Inspiron 531.
Through the information that I've gathered on this thread and on another forum, I came to the conclusion that it's just a cheap player who gives intermittent performance recognizing various DVD, but as I said, the drive I troubleshooting always recognize DVDs and CDs that I burned in it... It was just the DVD movie that I have problems with.
I dug my loyal reader DVD LaCie and plugged and I had no problems with him acknowledging and play ONE of my DVDs on this machine, which proves that the problem has nothing to do with the software system or DVD player software, as in the case suggested by someone else on this thread.
Just buy yourself a Firewire drive or USB-2 DVD decent and you're probably fine.

If you use a DVD - RW disk... you could try a DVD-R, but some DVD players

As an experience... you could try the following freeware to burn a video DVD

  • Some DVDs will not play on my laptop satellite

I was redirected here from this forum: http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Drivers-and-Utilities/tsstcorp-cddvdw-su-208bb-failing-to-recognize-dvd/td-p/463603

I can't read some DVD (which will play on other computers) but some DVD will not work.

As per link above the pilot is tsstcorp cddvdw su-208bb. Tried uninstalling the drive and reboot but no effect.
I don't know my exact model. It's just a Satellite, and this is the only information I can find.

It is not easy to say what may be wrong with that. Try to clean the lens and check it once more.

  • Satellite Pro L100 - DVD will not turn even upward

My friend gave me an old Satellite Pro L100 PSLA4E 005009EN to look at. He acknowledges not or read the DVD. I tried using multimedia Nero, Cyberlink and VLC players, but they can't watch a DVD. A CD will play without a problem, but a DVD will not yet run abreast.

When I look in my computer it says that a TSST Corp CD/DVD TS-L632M is installed, but when I look at the edge of the disc itself, it says DVD. R/RW with lightscribe? The software is also the original software yet.
Since the downloads for this model of Toshiba page, I see that the TSST DVD - RAM drive was equipped initially to the laptop so I'm assuming that a DVD - RW was equipped afterwards?

I find the hardware changes in device if Manager shows nothing. If I try to update the drivers found nothing? In desperation I tried to reinstall the drivers from the Toshiba site, but it does not help?
If this is the case why Windows XP does not recognize a DVD - RW?

If someone sees something I missed please?

    Hey,.

Different laptops come with a different material maybe if the laptop was supplied with this player, but in my opinion it of important either.

The fact is if DVD is not recognized it seems to be a hardware malfunction, but what you can do is cleaning the lens of the player with a Microfiber towel. Do it carefully you don't zero or destroy the lens (dust could be on the lens). After that he try again if it will recognize a DVD.

Otherwise, the disc must be replaced and contact an authorized service provider. Guys can order a compatible drive and replace it. :)

  • House DVD will not play

I made a DVD on a DVD recorder.  He plays very well on this DVD player and other DVD player.  However, it will not play on my PC (which is P6210 with Windows 7).

Explorer Windows actually said the DVD is blank (zero points).

Any ideas?  The DVD player manual says something "codec", but can't find anything about it on the HP support site.

    Big_Dave,

Your right to the mark. Step 9 to explain it. Even with my JVC deck, you have to Finalize the media.

  • DVD will not play on the computer.

my computer crashed.  The computer files were all saved, but I can't find any programs.  For example, I can no longer play a dvd.  I have Windows Media Player, but it won't play the dvd from the library movie.  Also, when I go to computer/CDrom, the CDrom is empty.

    Thank you for your help.

If it's a cd rom it will not play a dvd disc. Have you ever read a dvd on it? Is that what you did re - install Windows following the accident?

  • Burned DVD will not play on a DVD player

I downloaded a 22 minute video I want to burn to a DVD in my DVD player.  I tried on the DVD-R and DVD + R.  They burn the disk but will not play on the DVD player.  The error message indicates that the reading is not available on this disc.  I used the windows search support to problem solve on my own, but have had no success.  I made sure that I am selecting the option of CD/DVD drive to use the ISO image format.  I entered my option and I have no filters.  I have the video on NTSC format since I'm Pennsylvania / U.S..  I have not tried burning on slow or average speed because it burns the DVD without problem it just will not playback on the DVD player.  What do you recommend as my next plan of action for troubleshooting.

I guess that the video is not DVD compatible Mpeg2.  According to the DVD player, some will play other formats, too.  If there is no program for video on the computer, try Windows Movie Maker (free) to see if the video will too be converted to standard DVD Mpeg2.
