Satellite L350 - start and missing desktop icons

Hello

We have a laptop model Toshiba Satellite L350 with Windows Vista, and when we start, the Start button and icons are missing.
We can only get to use the machine by pressing the ctrl, alt, and DELETE keys and using the Task Manager.

How can go back us to the Start button and icons?

You can start your laptop in SafeMode (F8)?

  • I installed windows 7 and the desktop icons and bar tasks are enormous

I installed windows 7 and the desktop icons and bar tasks are enormous, go to Web pages, I have to use the scrollbar at the bottom of page to see the other half of the page - he said could also be a driver problem, but don't know what I'm looking for - someone can help?

    Hello

Yes, well part of the problem from the point of view of Dell is the only "acceptable" operating system for the Office of series 4600 XP. So they have no drivers 'official' for any function of Windows 7!

But first I need more information on the video card. Try this (on the Dell site): 4600 system is supplied either with the built-in car video or a dedicated real card video.  You should know that you got.  Right-click of your mouse on the desktop, click on Properties in the next area, you see.  This will bring you into the display properties.  Now click on settings at the top right of this next area, click Next on the advance .  Now, click on the adapter on the top.  Just below the upper on this last box, you will see your listed video adapter.

You will need this information, regardless of where you get help. My best recommendation is that you go to the community of Dell and after a question here. Someone may have already found one, but there is nothing official since the operating system is not officially supported.

I'm sorry, there is nothing more I can do.

  • missing desktop icons and reappear at the start?

I have a desktop PC with i7 and 16 GB. It runs on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Whenever I start my PC, all the desktop icons appear normally and quickly at the beginning. Then at the end of the initialization, all the desktop icons would change the folder symbols of gray before returning to their normal color symbols, one or both. The PC works fine otherwise. So, what's up with that?

When google, many seem to have a similar problem, but none offer a REAL solution. Care to help? Please provide only the answers that have been soundproofed/accepted as a solution to the problem.

    Hello

It is regrettable that the steps in my previous post did not help to solve the problem. This problem could occur due to the corruption of the file system or damaged user account.

Please follow the steps mentioned below:

    Method 1: run (SFC Scan) System File Checker because this could be a problem with corruption in the Windows system files. System File Checker is a Microsoft Windows utility that allows users to search for and restore corruptions in Windows system files. Consult the following link;

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us

    Method 2:

You can create a new user account on your computer, and then check.

    Create a new user account
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/create-a-user-account

If you are not faced with the same question in a new user account, you can check the link below and use the steps provided to screw a corrupted user profile

Please an update on the status of the issue to help you further.

  • HP Start Menu and the desktop icons for HP printer Diagnostic tools

    Hello world

I have a HP Desktop F4440 all-in-one printer and I use the Windows XP operating system. I have all the scanning software and others installed from the original HP installation disk or updates from the HP Web site for this printer. Everything works very well at the moment, but there is a small problem. The HP icon shortcuts for the Menu start-up and functions for the printer changed to a generic icon at a time given to these two places after the software installation CD was used by me to install the printer programs or desktop icon HP to utilities "Diagnostic Tools HP printer" original. It works fine otherwise, when I want to go check something on the Tools of diagnosis HP printer or HP Solution Center, but the HP icon changed to a generic at a time for a reason unknown, inexplicable. I don't have no changes to my system until the problem occurred to my knowledge other casual upgrade for the operating system or install a new windows update or HP software updates or restart the computer, but some schooner point after one of these upgrades, HP put to date or restart the HP start menu and desktop icons time replaced by a generic.

Can someone tell me how I can recover the original HP icon and get her back Amendment? It was an icon on the web since the HP printer Diagnostics utility or function is based on the web. Is there a way I can save a copy of just the file on my computer icon so that if it goes back to that generic again once I can more easily change what it is supposed to be? I thank very you much for your help and advice.

    Hi there yoseph13,

What has happened to me too, but after a windows update. Half the icons on my desktop have been affected. I hope that this fix works for you as well. Right-click on the icon. Go to properties. Click Change icon. Select the icon and click ok then apply and ok again. If the icon does not appear, you will need to navigate to the folder of the software and select the application.

    Good luck!

  • Missing desktop icons, system restore only a temporary fix

Hi all, hope someone can help.  The shortcut on my desktop icons disappeared over the weekend.  Ran a system restore and they returned with the exception of the trash to recycle, thought that I could live with that.  After a time I keep the laptop, returned the next day and they all went again.  Ran to an older date system restore, they came back, but when I re - start they're all going again.  Checked the box 'show desktop' and it works in the bar side and summer menu control panel "taskbar and start to" all the boxes checked.  Have tried to re - define shortcuts, process works very well but the system usually show them.  Interestingly, the laptop starts, icons flash me momentarily, but don't show in fact once the system is clean awake.

    Ideas please

I tried to remove and reinstall the prnter, but that did not work.

In order to solve the problem completely uninstall the software by clicking Start > all programs > HP > and follow the uninstall option.

Then go to control Panl > programs and features > uninstall a program and remove reminders of the software (HP Customer Participation, Read Iris OCR, etc.).

Download and install the latest version of the software for your printer below:

    Hello

I have a problem with my laptop Satellite M40 on stop to the low process sometimes also on windows start and I think it's BIOS associates.

When I start my laptop, sometimes (not always) I get an error message in a blue screen saying that my BIOS is not fully ACPI-compatible... I reboot, and if I wait a while, the system boots normally, but if I just restart immediately, he'll get the same message.
It happens sometimes that the computer goes further opening in the black screen message: contact tomorrow: toshiba

The other problem, I don't know if it of related or not, is that the computer is not shut down or restart. I have to do it by pressing the button for a while. I thought it was an application that I had in my system that was the cause, but I have just formatted the hard drive and the same mistakes are still ongoing...

When it stops, it stops right on the message: 'Windows is shutting down... ". »

I updated my BIOS with the new available for download here to toshiba support, and I think it was the trigger for all these problems... now I don't know how to go back, or even if it's the reason.
I really hope someone here can help me, because I just wanted all the information related to the internet without success.

    Thank you!

    Hello

Satellite M40 is well-known for me because one of my friends has one at home. Laptop very nice.

So, what can I say? It's really not easy to say what the problem is here, but if you use Windows XP Home edition for a long time, it can happen that one day to happen strange things. I believe that no one here can say with certainty what the problem with your machine.

If possible, you should clean OS installation using recovery media delivered. After doing this, you should see what is happening. In this case, no one can say that there are programs that have bad influence on the execution of the operating system.
