Satellite L40 15G - Touchpad behaves erratically

Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 laptop 15G, and recently, I am aware that the cursor has not correctly when using the Touchpad.

That I usually use a mouse with my laptop with absolutely NO problems, I do not know how long the touchpad works wrong.

According to the specifications of the system, the speed controller is labeled Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad, 10.0.3.0 Version.
Well, it is the last in use, because since I have detected the anomaly, I tried a lot of Synaptics Touchpad drivers with no result.

However, I have tried this [workaround | http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboards-Touchpads/Solved-Synaptic-Touchpad-not-working/m-p/272949#M10565] and the Touchpad seemed to work properly. But for just 30 seconds after the startup process in Windows environment?  :|. After that, the cursor slowly begins to act erratically.
After a second reboot, the slider have the same erratic behavior as before, using the touchpad.
In Safe Mode, the problem is the same.

The only way to recreate the same "normal" cursor using touchpad behavior done this workaround mentioned before.

Note: in all cases, the buttons on the keypad two touchscreen works perfectly. If the mouse USB.

Can someone give me some clues to solve this problem?
Thank you very much!

I guess that your touchpad module his/her.
The solution described seems to be only a time option in case the touchpad would stop working due to some problems in the system.
But in your case, it looks like a hardware problem.

    Good afternoon.

    I have Toshiba Satellite L40 - 15G and I want to put 4 GB of ram (2 x 2).
It works with 3 GB but with 4 GB it just does not start - gives me a blue screen.

I read on the internet and discovered that I have to update my BIOS (my version curent is 1.60).
I have vista 32 bit. I also tried to do the update via the site of toshiba, but without success.
I am running the .exe file, but when I restart the computer I have the same version.

    What should I do?

    Hello

I think you are using an incorrect BIOS.
Satellite L40 - 15 G seems to belong to the series of PSL48E

    Check again!

Toshiba Europe page provides a BIOS 2, 00-VICTORY for Vista and WIN-5, 50 for Win XP

    Regarding the upgrade of memory:
I don't know if your laptop would be m supports 4 GB of RAM. Is that there are different models of L40 and some models supports only 2 GB of RAM!

Your L40 - 15 G seems to use the Mobile Intel GL960 Express Chipset...
Check out the details on the Intel page which RAM max can be managed by the Intel GL960 Express Chipset.

  • Satellite L40 - 15G - does not start, only power LED lights

    Hello.

I have a Satellite L40 - 15G that will not start. I click the power button, or with the battery, and only the power led alternately. I can open and close the cd/dvd, but nothing else works. No beeps when I remove the memory, the hard drive led blinks even. I tried with another hard drive, and it's the same thing.

Could this be the motherboard, the processor?

    Appreciate the help!

    Hello

Unfortunately, it looks like a hardware malfunction. I guess that it s related to the motherboard or perhaps CPU, if you have already tried another memory module.

You should go to an authorized service provider. Guys have good diagnostic tools to check your laptop and repair. In addition, they can order spare parts Toshiba.

Sorry, but everything that s what I can say. Here he only a user to s forum

I managed to remove the keyboard nicely and mount everything back together...

Once I plugged the phone into the charger, even when no light appears and computer does not start!

Any idea what could have gone wrong?

    Hi mate

Have Hmm you checked the memory modules?
Please check if the modules are placed correctly.
You should also check if you connect the keyboard to the motherboard in the right way.

  • Satellite L40 - 18W - Touchpad does not work

    Hey guys...

I have Toshiba Satellite L40 - 18W, bought in the Middle East, and unfortunately its touchpad does not work... I checked and double checked all the possible places, so anything that is disabled or misconfigured but found nothing.

As there are quite a few errors in the operating system I formatted my hard drive and install WXP Prof, installed all the drivers, but the touchpad is not always works. I'm very confused as before and after formatting the pointer moves a little when I use the touch pad at the beginning of the UPA start? ¦

    Help, please...

The best audit is to install the operating system with the original Toshiba recovery image and test it with the factory settings. In this case touchpad should work fine. Otherwise, contact the service and leave check your laptop.

Sorry, but I don't see another solution for you.

  • Satellite L40 - 15G - WiFi does not work - cannot activate usign FN + F8

    Hello

I have a toshiba satellite L40 - 15 G with windows 7 32 bit and my wireless is not working, the pilot is OK
    I do FN + F8 and I can't active wireless :(

    What should I do more?

    Hello

The Fn + F8 isn't really essential to use the WiFi network. Generally, the WiFi network should be enabled by default.
So even if the Fn + F8 does not work, the WiFi network must be enabled.
You see the local network card in Device Manager? Is it correctly recognized?

Where he is, follow these steps:
Go to the control panel (switch to the large or small icon view)-> network & sharing Center-> left column manage wireless networks
Add here new WLan and configure it by using the right SSID, encryption and password encryption.

Can someone tell me what processors installed in the laptop.

    Thank you
    Hugo

    Hello

You can only use the CPU that is supported by the chipset and BIOS.
As far as I know the computer Satellite L40/EQUIUM L40/Satellite Pro L40/Satellite L45 is equipped with a processor Intel Pentium Duo or Intel Celeron M Processor.

    These processors were built in:

    Pentium processor (533 MHz) Duo clocked at 1.6 GHz (T2060) 1.73 GHz (T2080) / 1.86 GHz (T2090) / 1.86 GHz (T2130)

    and

    Celeron processor (533 MHz) 1.73GHz GHz 1.86 M (430)

I think you can use these processors.

  • Satellite L670-1LM - Touchpad behaves in a very different way

    Heey people!

It's maybe a stupid question, but I don't know the answer, so I'm asking anyway.

I recently bought a new Sattelite L670-1LM and everything works fine. Only the touchpad behaves in a very different way compared to what I'm used to.

The two buttons, left and right, the same behavior. If I click on a random place on the screen, a quick menu appears, as if I clicked the right button of the mouse. When I noticed it, I first thought that the two buttons have been "buttons on the right."

Then I noticed that when I actually click something, it opens as if I hit the left button of the mouse! So I seem to be able to do something with the two buttons because they have properties of both left and right mouse buttons!

When I plug in an external mouse, quick menu opens when I click on the right button and I can open applications with the left button as I'm used to...

Is this the usual way of a touchpad on a Toshiba laptop works or there at - it something wrong? To me, it seems as if it may be a hardware error, because it seems quite unlikely that messes things anerror, but still he messes up in a way that you can still do everything you could do with 2 different buttons. However, I have never seen this before, so I really wanted to ask the question.

Also, anyone know how I can change this setting to a mouse "classic"? I can't fix by using the menu on the properties of the touchpad.

Thanks in advance! Maybe it's a really stupid question, but I'm not an expert in this area.

    Thank you!
    Bottom

OK... so now, I noticed that if I change the settings, something changes.

If I put two buttons as buttons on the left, the two work as buttons on the left,
If I put two buttons as buttons on the right, both work as buttons on the right, until here nothing unusual.

However, if I put a button as the button on the right and the other as a button on the left, they both work as these buttons 'combination' I explained in my previous post... Any of them, I put as a button on the right, they always do the same thing.

  • Upgrade memory on Satellite L40 - 15G

    I have a Toshiba L40 - 15G with 1 GB of ram (2x512MB) DDR2. He works at a frequency of 266 Mhz.
I want to switch to 2 GB of ram going 2x1GB sticks or stick of 2 GB.

However, I don't know if the 2 GB key is accepted on a slot.
Should I buy a 2 GB key or 2 sticks of 1 GB?

And, if the frequency of the new sticks can be higher? like 800 Mhz / 500 Mhz?

    Post edited by: Ruixituh

    Hello

Depends on the frequency of memory on the FSB (front side bus) chipset
If the FSB is limited to 266 Mhz, then your modules will work only with 266 Mhz even modules support a faster speed.

As far as I know the laptop supports the Intel GL960 Express Chipset.
This chipset runs max 2 GB of RAM, so you can use modules of 2 x 1 GB RAM only.

I thing the chipset will handle 533 Mhz

    Tried a pioneer dvr-k17tbt (original)?
    a GSA - T40N H - L
    a Sony DW-P50A
    No shows on BIOS.

I've reset CMOS, BIOS update, nothing works
All readers Don t show on windows as well, but they have the power (light and work button)
    What should do?

    Hey Buddy,

What is the original drive and where you have ordered the new CD/DVD readers?
Have you checked if there is a jumper for master/slave definition? If so try with the master and slave.

The problem is that not all readers are compatible for all laptops. If you don't know which drive is just ask a maintainer approved assistance.

Find the testicles or, thank you!

I can tell you with certainty what s wrong with your laptop, but I guess that its a serious problem of motherboard.
Perhaps the electronic power supply on the motherboard is affected.

Fact is that this isn't the battery problem. Why? Because the laptop should work without the battery, but comes to connect to the network.

You said that the adapter is OK. Well, it means that the battery and AC adapter isn't the troublemaker you said that memory was also tested.
So this isn't memory problem and, therefore, I think, it could be the related problem of motherboard.

  • Satellite L40 - damaged cable that connects the touchpad to motherboard

    Hello

I've damaged calbe that connects the touchpad to motherboard of Toshiba Satellite L40-139 I can't find a store where I could buy it. I ask someone where I can buy it, I looked to toshiba support they ask me the serial number, but I don't have (its an old computer and I can barely see 57044751 numbers, but they are not valid, so I can't ask them for help. Help, my computer does not start without this cable:]

Well, the solution is that I should buy complete new device touchpad but I think its too expensive for me because I need a cable (and I don't know if a single cable is damaged, so I don't want to buy additional things that won't help me)

    > I tried toshiba support but they ask me the serial number but I don't have (its an old computer and I can barely see 57044751 numbers, but they are not valid, so I can't ask them for help. Help, my computer does not start without this cable:]

To be honest, I can't believe that
The technicians don't need serial numbers to find the right and compatible part.
You said your laptop Satellite L40-139.
Generally, it should be enough to get the right part

As far as I know as the Satellite L40-139 belongs to the PSL40E series.
Then all Satellite L40 PSL40E must use the same cable.

I guess you need the touchpad button and cable H000006020
    I found one on ebay.

However, I think that the Toshiba ASP in your country should be able to provide a straight part just have the model L40-139 PSL40E number

Recently, my adapter went cause of overvoltage... so I changed the new adapter after changing the new adapter...

    Please help me...

    > Recently my adapter went cause of overvoltage... so I changed the new adapter after changing the new adapter my touchpad is not working properly...

Using the power adapter Toshiba original and recommended?
In my opinion, the issues could be linked to the new Ac adapter and may happens with an adapter not entirely comatibel AC

Hello, I have a problem with the SATELLITE L40-139

the thing is when I press the power button / stop, hard drive led will begin to Flash, CD-ROM led is lit and the screen is black. I noticed that advise in the CD-ROM makes a sound ICT in the same way the hdd led flashes (when it flashes I hear a tick form CD, yes I unfolded any computer laptop).

I can only say that I have connected my PC HARD drive and it's working., good fan is not working too, but I think it will start, after some time (as he always did)

Notebook crash circumstances are now saying: that a year ago, he fell from 1 inch (such height ;]) I saw that the ribbon cable connecting the touchpad to the mohterboard was broken and my diidn can't start computer, I thought that there's a problem, but I forgot and left the laptop for more than 9 months (with hard disassebled and battery and cd-rom drive) and then I decided to try to turn it on.
And viola! It works it boots etc.

After a month of being happy, I'm drunk I couldn't sit on the Chair and I decided to sleep with my laptop on the bed, I lied right down and put the laptop on my belly and it crashed (screen freezes) so I decided to reboot, but it does not start.

Here is a video with what I get when turning the power on it: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC0pGBBVwJk] (not Fortunately my phone fell in the mud and shifts when I record videos)

Some people suggest I should connect an external display to see if theres no picture but the result is always the same. (Screen not even fuels not on)

Maybe someone could help me fix without sending it to the customer service.

    See you soon.

On this virtual path, it is not easy to say what the problem is here. Of course, you can try to do some tests and try to make some conclusions which may be wrong. After his last stop somewhere I think that there is big problem with graphics card. Of course I can't say it for sure.

Diagnosis just exact mainboard can offer answers. I m afraid mainboard is dead and must be exchanged.
