Satellite L40 - 17 t - WiFi device has warning yellow sing

Hello

I'm trying to fix myself first. That's what I have: Satellite L40-17 t (PSL48E-02N02TRU), RTL8187B, Vista (unfortunately Russian version - I can't take it to a place of repair, here, to the United States), Kaspersky updated (I guess that there is no virus in my system)

Here's what happens:

(1) the WiFi on the side only flashes once the laptop when starting, then it turns off (is this normal?)
(2) there is no link - it has 'unknown network - connect only to local '. The other computer works fine with the Lynksis
3) there is a yellow exclamation next to the Realtek wireless controller
(4) in its General properties, there is an error 37

That's what I tried:

(1) I tried to update the driver for the properties, but it is said that it didn't need to be updated
(2) I tried to delete the form the menu device driver and then reinstall it from USB key (I extracted the driver from Toshiba website to a flash drive). When the installation is complete, it says it is complete, but the State in the menu, it says that it could not install the driver - consult the manufacturer.

Once when I turned on the laptop it started to run a system recovery, but after that even the keyboard stopped working. Now, there is no keyboard, no WiFi, no same connection through the cable - it says unknown network. Everything that used to work before.

Please help, please tell me could this be something I can fix on my own, or look at it as a dead-end?

Thank you

Hello

Hmm for me it looks like a driver simply issue first of all, I would recommend deletion of the current WLAN driver. Then go to Device Manager > right click on the WLAN card > Uninstall. Then, restart your computer. Now, run a registry cleaner like CCleaner (freeware) and clean the registry. He must find the old and bad registry keys and delete all the. Then reboot again and now download & install the latest Portal WLAN Toshiba WLAN driver:
http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/WLAN/

What operating system you're using now? It's the preinstalled Windows operating system from Toshiba?

    Hello

We have a laptop L40 and very happy with it. There BIOS 1.60 and I want to update to 1.90. 32 - Vista Home Basic has been installed by default. He now has SP1.

When I unzip the package and run the bat file (that start with binary winflash), the 'dos' window opens and stays there for a while. Nothing happens and then the window closes and the system is restarted.

When I run just winflash, nothing happens. There is no dialogue or any other message.

    How is - a is updating the bios on the L40 - 14Y (PSL48E)?

    Hello

I'm really surprised, why you start the file beats if there is no exe file. Unzip all of the files on the desktop to the laptop and open the winflash.exe file, follow the instructions on the screen.
Make sure that the laptop is connected to the power supply current and NOT to interrupt by running the update of the BIOS.

Any help for just a normal non-techie?

Try a hard reset. Remove battery and AC. Hold down the button to power 30 seconds then connect AC and try to restart.

If this does not work, go to Device Manager... Control Panel/System/control device manager and expand the small plus sign next to USB bus controllers and reset all the hubs like this:

Post back and let us know how it works.

  • Satellite L40 - 12K - BIOS update failure

    Hi people,

It is the second Toshiba laptop, I've managed to screw up. I don't know why, but it seems that Toshiba is especially prone to spectacular failure of BIOS.

This laptop (Satellite L40 - 12K, short model PSL40E) has a bios made by FRIEND and Toshiba has an update on its Web site for windows that uses the tool of WinFlash.exe made by ASUS.

The tool only works for 32-bit operating systems, and I had installed a 64-bit version of Windows, I could not pass the laptop.

Then I thought: we will try to update the bios from MS-DOS, using a bootable flash drive!

I went to the ASUS ftp site and downloaded the latest AFUDOS (2.41). This is a special version of the afudos FRIEND tool, specially designed for ASUS.

I ran the tool under MS-DOS, and it will make sure the BIOS automatically confirmed that the binary file was compatible with the laptop model and automatically starts the process of flashing.

But it crash in the phase of "flash erase". He was stuck there for HOURS, so I turned off the computer and tried to turn it back on.

Not at all, the laptop won't turn. It does not even ANY SOUND. NO LIGHTS, NO NOISE, NO FAN, NOTHING.

    ABSOLUTELY AND COMPLETELY DEAD.

So, there you have it. I have flashed dozens of computers (servers, laptops, workstations, etc.) in my life, and I've only had TWO failures.

TWO of them were with Toshiba laptops. Geez, Toshiba is really the King of the failures of BIOS flashing!

    Hello

I would never try update the Toshiba BIOS with a BIOS from other support pages for computer laptop manufacturer
What to say; I found one from Toshiba victory of the BIOS and traditional BIOS Toshiba U.S. driver page:

    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com

Maybe you could try to Flash the BIOS using this version of BIOS
If this is not possible, then only a service provider authorized Toshiba would be able to help you.

By the way: I've had three different Toshiba notebooks: A210, U400, and now Tecra A11.
The BIOS update has worked perfect for all series...

  • Satellite Pro L40 - 14R and WiFi connection

    Hello!

I have the model Satellite Pro L40 - 14R with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. I just installed a driver for the card wireless (Wireless Network Driver Realtek). After that, I can see device correctly installed:

    Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11 g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network adapt #2

In the Device Manager under control panel configuration/system in my WinXP.

I have also installed "Atheros Client Utility".

But I don't see any net wireless in my range. No net can be detected! The old model of laptop - see multiple numbers of nets wireless in the healthy zone of mind. What is going on?

    [email protected]

    Hello

First of all, you can use the Atheros Client Utility with the Atheros WLan card.
You have a Realtek WLan card and this is why I recommend using WLan configuration option clean Windows to configure the WiFi network.

But let's go to the essentials
Have you checked if the WiFi network has been correctly activated? I mean you must activate the Wlan switch on the side of books and you must use the FN + F8 key combination!

First, please check these two functions.

  • I can't turn on the Wifi, Satellite L40 - 18Z

    Hello

I use Satellite L40 - 18Z but I can not turn on Wifi.

I am very sure that peripheral lla is installed another property and I tried a few ways to turn on the Wifi device but never turned on. Of course, never caught the signal. Rooter has no problem either.

Manager says Deveice peripheral island works another property. And the driver is correctly installed. But I can't turn on parameter of network or windows Mobility Center.

It's very embarrassing to write something like that, but I need your help.

PS This is the first time that I post on this thread, but who answers? Toshiba support team?

    Thank you

    Hello
You said, did you check if the device is properly installed in Device Manager. Is there a red X on the wlan module in the list? And he must have this name: RTL8187B.

There are several ways to enable the wlan on your laptop. One, is the hardware switch of your laptop, the other thing you can try is a combination of FN to FN + F8.
You can control if the WiFi is working when you see the symbol of the LED is on or not.

Finally, it is a forum for user to user here.

  • Satellite L40 - 15G - WiFi does not work - cannot activate usign FN + F8

    Hello

I have a toshiba satellite L40 - 15 G with windows 7 32 bit and my wireless is not working, the pilot is OK
    I do FN + F8 and I can't active wireless :(

    What should I do more?

    Hello

The Fn + F8 isn't really essential to use the WiFi network. Generally, the WiFi network should be enabled by default.
So even if the Fn + F8 does not work, the WiFi network must be enabled.
You see the local network card in Device Manager? Is it correctly recognized?

Where he is, follow these steps:
Go to the control panel (switch to the large or small icon view)-> network & sharing Center-> left column manage wireless networks
Add here new WLan and configure it by using the right SSID, encryption and password encryption.

  • Re: Satellite L40-139 - 10 error code in the Device Manager on the wireless network card

I have a toshiba satellite L40-139 and I just instaled windows 7 64 bit on it. Since that time my atheros wireless device will not work. I tried updating the driver and windows but nothing.
In the device manager says code 10 DEVICE can NOT START.

    Help, please!

    Thank you!

    Hello

    If you read here:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/943104

The Code 10 error code is generated when the Device Manager has not enough information or error that spread upwards by device drivers is not recognized by Device Manager.
Then, go to the page of the driver and update the driver. If you do not have to win 7, try the vista driver.

Have you checked if the WLan switch on the side of the laptop is on? This switch activates and deactivates the WLan led. If this is not enough, I guess that there is a hardware problem. Perhaps some loose contacts, for example.
This can be corrected with any software update, I think that the technician should take a look in the notebook and should check this

    _*@chris4o*_
First of all it s very strange that your laptop has not delivered with any Windows operating system! Each new Toshiba notebook was shipped with the Windows operating system and the image of Toshiba should be already preinstalled.
In addition, you should find the Toshiba Recovery CD in the package. This CD contains all the drivers Toshiba, tools, Windows OS and additional software!

    With regard to the pixel dead;
Usually the internal laptop display can be replaced if a large amount of dead pixels would be displayed on the screen. There is an exactly information about replacing the screen.

    Please check this:

In any case, I recommend you really clarify this two issues from your laptop dealer! The laptop must have the OS!

  • Satellite L40 - 13G has 667 memory but works at 533

Satellite L40 - 13G have original built in 2 x 512 667 of memory but memory works only at 533, why is this?

I flashed the latest 2.20 bios of the Toshiba site.
I did an upgrade on this model by changing its processor,
Original image was celeron M 440 and now is core 2 duo T5600,

The chipset on this model is 945GM and it supports core2 duo processor.

Now main FSB is 667 for the cpu but memory works only at 533 dual Chanel
and it's strange because the memory is 667?

BIOS doesn't have a Setup for memory clock.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hello

If you have read your question, you will get a response.

Your machine comes with a Celeron M, which has a FSB of 133 Mhz. This means that the whole machine has been designed (including the BIOS!) to work with that CPU and JUST with this CPU regardless what the chipset is capable of. This means that no matter what CPU and memory you´ve installed in your machine, the FSB will collaborate in the FSB 133 Mhz (533 Mhz), but your Coreduo needs another front bus.
And because the BIOS is programmed to put the FSB 533 won´t never be able to do your mem running at 667 Mhz. Maybe if you can reprogram your bios.
