Satellite L40 - signs of bad keyboard
Satelliete L40 series + _ +. _ laptop keyboard is not functioning properly as an example of press the @ and the number 6. External keyboard via USB works fine - any ideas?
Have you checked the keyboard language settings?
Maybe you keyboard language settings don't match the keyboard layout?
I think that this should be checked first.
I have two buttons on my keyboard that doesn't work well.
where when I press shift + 2 this letter appears not ("") (@) and vice versa
I don't know if it's a software issue or a hardware issue. This problem I found it when I bought
my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A100-237)
From your description, it must be bad for the keyboard input language. I think that, in your case, it is set to ENGLISH UK and must be set to the ENGLISH of the United States.
If you want to know how to configure regional and language support control please this page http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/expert/reginalsup.mspx
I just bought a L670 - 17 X.
During installation, it asked me what language I wanted to and I chose the USA English.
It has been installed, but the keys on the keyboard do not match perfectly.
For example, the y and the z replace each other, the key question mark product-, the - touch product /, and so on.
Any help would be appreciated to get the keys to perfectly match the symbols.
Thanks for your help.
You need to change the language of the keyboard.
I guess you can choose language EN (UK) for the keyboard
Here's a nice HowTO from Microsoft:
* How to change your keyboard layout *.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 - 15G. The keyboard was very dirty, so I followed the online instructions to remove it:
Removed the cover that is over the ram and the wireless card has had and took off the two screws now the keyboard (in fact only one is under that cover, the other is on the right...
I managed to remove the keyboard nicely and mount everything back together...
Once I plugged the phone into the charger, even when no light appears and computer does not start!
Any idea what could have gone wrong?
Have Hmm you checked the memory modules?
Please check if the modules are placed correctly.
You should also check if you connect the keyboard to the motherboard in the right way.
Sorry mate but it is difficult to say what s going on here maybe you damaged something during the removal of the keyboard.
I have Satellite L40 - 1BZ and only vowels will work when you try to open a session?
I turn the laptop on and I tried to enter the password (using Vista home Premium) and it will just hit me the vowels and Caps lock?
Help someone mention I could download the BIOS but I put t really know what I m doing.
I imagine you have this L40 longer and it will be interesting to know since when you noticed this behavior strange keyboard.
I wonder if you can help me... my friends cat sitting on my keyboard, the key 'b' stuck and fell. I have a series of Satellite L40. I have the blue and black hinge and press 'b '. I need my laptop for different assignments. Please help me! Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
It's that you can't fix a unique key. We can then remove the CAP and can visit his profile at the small plastic mechanism but I don t know if you can fix it.
In general, when there is a problem with the nonworking keys the whole keyboard must be replaced.
I have a problem with my laptop Satellite L40 - 17R. I've updated from Windows XP to Vista Business. Almost everything works fine, but I noticed that the Tilda key (~) does not work! the key does nothing.
I changed the keyboard layout to a lot of other layouts, but no solution.
Did anyone have any suggestions? !!!
Tilda key (~) is placed as a third symbol - additional symbol on specific keyboard key?
I just installed XP SP2 on my Satellite L40 (BTW thanks to all of you who helped me overcome the problems during this operation with your son), but I have a problem with my keyboard. I have a QWERTY keyboard and after I installed xp, he worked as a qwerty, I fixed it, now all my letters are working very well, but I have some problems with certain symbols, such as @,., _, if you understand me.
Could someone help me?
I also have problems with my audio, in fact I have no sound at all, in the Panel, he said that there is no audio device found.
I've seen a few threads which said that I should first install kb888111 and another thing is likely, but I can't find the other. I downloaded the audio driver from the toshiba Web site; Thank you for helping me in this area also.
I have the same problem with the sound... I found hotfix kb888111 and I instaled this one... but when I tried to start installing driver sound a window popup say thet there is an error and cannot continue with the installation driver...
I found hotfix kb888111 in this file that i have downloaded from the toshiba site: english\sound driver\mshdqfe\win2k_xp\us\kb888111xps2...
I don't know what to do... Someone else knows...
I have laptop Satellite L40 - 17u, and I had it again for about 2 months. My keyboard now seems to do its own thing. I'm going to the settings to correct this. It is ok for a while then goes haywire once again, so leave some letters on the key on board either entered numbers, some type at all, and not to tap the buttons I'm pressing.
I did a reforming and it always goes the same way.
Any ideas please?
You have recently installed a keyboard related software like AllChars? Exactly what settings change to correct the missbehaviour on your keyboard? If activate you NumLock?
I just signed up to your forum, it's really nice, how it works.
I bought 3 months ago, a satellite L40-14N, with Vista Home Premium pre-installed, but I'm starting to get tired of the delays.
I also have a problem, always Walker I want to open some windows, such as control panel or my computer and all my icons on the desktop disappear after some time will be displayed again, but not the application open before (Panel configuration or my computer).
I wanted to ask all of you, what may be the problem, in fact I think to get rid of Vista and install XP, do you think it would be a good idea?
If so, what kind of xp (sp2, sp3, etc.)? And, what I would have in return when I install xp, as what drivers need me for my laptop works properly again?
Thank you very much... good day
He knows that the Vista operating system is in need of more resources as a Microsoft OS at the beginning of s.
I have a Vista on the L30 and I get a really slow performance.
In addition many services and processes running in the background of the operating system. It also decreases performance.
But all background processes are needed if you want to use all the features of notebooks such as the FN keys or buttons to Toshiba for example.
However, I've installed XP on the L30 without any additional driver for the FN keys, control buttons etc and it was amazing to see how fast the laptop can be.
So generally it s not a bad idea to install XP on the L40.
But note; If you want to install XP on the L40 you must install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager first. Without this driver SATA XP does not recognize the HARD drive.
I'm trying to fix myself first. That's what I have: Satellite L40-17 t (PSL48E-02N02TRU), RTL8187B, Vista (unfortunately Russian version - I can't take it to a place of repair, here, to the United States), Kaspersky updated (I guess that there is no virus in my system)
Here's what happens:
(1) the WiFi on the side only flashes once the laptop when starting, then it turns off (is this normal?)
(2) there is no link - it has 'unknown network - connect only to local '. The other computer works fine with the Lynksis
3) there is a yellow exclamation next to the Realtek wireless controller
(4) in its General properties, there is an error 37
That's what I tried:
(1) I tried to update the driver for the properties, but it is said that it didn't need to be updated
(2) I tried to delete the form the menu device driver and then reinstall it from USB key (I extracted the driver from Toshiba website to a flash drive). When the installation is complete, it says it is complete, but the State in the menu, it says that it could not install the driver - consult the manufacturer.
Once when I turned on the laptop it started to run a system recovery, but after that even the keyboard stopped working. Now, there is no keyboard, no WiFi, no same connection through the cable - it says unknown network. Everything that used to work before.
Please help, please tell me could this be something I can fix on my own, or look at it as a dead-end?
Hmm for me it looks like a driver simply issue first of all, I would recommend deletion of the current WLAN driver. Then go to Device Manager > right click on the WLAN card > Uninstall. Then, restart your computer. Now, run a registry cleaner like CCleaner (freeware) and clean the registry. He must find the old and bad registry keys and delete all the. Then reboot again and now download & install the latest Portal WLAN Toshiba WLAN driver:
What operating system you're using now? It's the preinstalled Windows operating system from Toshiba?
Got Toshiba Satellite l40 - 12 k laptop.
Running Windows XP Pro. The problem is that I can not change the brightness of the display even with hotkey utility for Win Vista installed. But if I'm in the bios of these keys work fine. Even when I started these keyboard shortcuts from gParted Live CD worked fine.
But when I boot Win XP they stop working. So if I want to change the brightness I have to restart or hibernation, the time to change display BRIGHTNESS level because he remembers the last burst upward. So what is the problem? Don't tell about the hardware optimized for Vista, but not for other OS.
When there will be avaible vor Win XP drivers? OK I understand it's MS that has the problem to a normal BONE, but well guys it is so big problem to run under XP?
The funny thing is that everything else works fine and all the drivers I needed, I found in the homepage of Intel. So can hope on a support user, because now I know that it is not hardware problem because even a Live CD of gParted worked these keyboard shortcuts?
PS Sorry for my bad English.
> So what's the problem? Don't tell about the hardware optimized for Vista, but not for other OS.
Unfortunately, you are right. The XP is not compatible with the BIOS on the L40.
Several different sets of Toshiba supports two different BIOS for XP and Vista.
The Fn keys does not work because the BIOS does not support the XP completely.
I think that you will not be able to use the FN key pressed until the BIOS and drivers needed for XP will be released.
Can someone help me please. About a week ago I started to have a clicking sound coming from my laptop Satellite L40. My laptop froze and when I restarted, I was directed to the system configuration with a message at the bottom saying
"Pri Master Hard Disk Drive SMART status bad, Backup and replace."
Press F2 to assume. »
I pressed F2, but I don't have any idea what to do?
Can someone tell me how do I backup my files until my HDD disappeared completely or if it was can I use another device to get down them.
I tried using the recovery disk, but the disk does not respond?
This message looks like a warning of S.M.A.R.T. notification
This means that your HARD disk will eventually fail.
It can happen in the next few days or it can't happen for a few months but the SMART feature has detected that the drive is wrong then it should be replaced as soon as possible.
It seems that your laptop is not very old, so the warranty should cover all replacements.
I see only one way to access and back up the data. Eventually, you could buy an external enclosure SATA USB HARD drive and was able to connect the HARD drive to another computer.
I don't know if you will be able to access the HARD drive because of the failure, but if you want you can try this m.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 laptop 15G, and recently, I am aware that the cursor has not correctly when using the Touchpad.
That I usually use a mouse with my laptop with absolutely NO problems, I do not know how long the touchpad works wrong.
According to the specifications of the system, the speed controller is labeled Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad, 10.0.3.0 Version.
Well, it is the last in use, because since I have detected the anomaly, I tried a lot of Synaptics Touchpad drivers with no result.
However, I have tried this [workaround | http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboards-Touchpads/Solved-Synaptic-Touchpad-not-working/m-p/272949#M10565] and the Touchpad seemed to work properly. But for just 30 seconds after the startup process in Windows environment? :|. After that, the cursor slowly begins to act erratically.
After a second reboot, the slider have the same erratic behavior as before, using the touchpad.
In Safe Mode, the problem is the same.
The only way to recreate the same "normal" cursor using touchpad behavior done this workaround mentioned before.
Note: in all cases, the buttons on the keypad two touchscreen works perfectly. If the mouse USB.
Can someone give me some clues to solve this problem?
Thank you very much!

I guess that your touchpad module his/her.
The solution described seems to be only a time option in case the touchpad would stop working due to some problems in the system.
But in your case, it looks like a hardware problem.
My laptop is Toshiba Satellite L40 - 139 PSL40E model, operating system Windows XP SP3, 1 024 DDR2 RAM (667 MHz) (512 + 512).
I want to increase the RAM memory using 2048 DDR2 RAM (1024 + 1024).
Laptop manual can not find if support * _dual-channel memory_ *, which requires a dual-channel-capable motherboard. Theoretically, this technology double data rate of the memory.
Someone has the manual for this laptop motheboard, or may indicate the site for download?
Apologies for my bad English.
Satellite L40-139 can be upgraded to 2 GB of RAM. You can buy two modules with 1 GB of capacity with the specifications of DDR2 at 667 MHz.
If you use two modules, they run in dual channel mode.
The manual of the motherboard or repair for Toshiba laptops cannot be downloaded. They are only available if ASP.

I am currently on the software and part driver from the HP site, trying to download the update to the BIOS of Office IPISB-CH (v7.15 Rev.S may 25, 2013), but the download button will not work. I tried this on Chrome, IE and Firefox. Please notify.
I use Windows 7 and IE 8. Noticed the problem after deleting a shortcut that had a corrupt LRU.
I know that the IPS files didn't need to update that is often, but since then, there were not a single update since the June 3, 2010... Are we not due for an update?
