Satellite L40: Windows XP crashes often

Hello

I am a happy owner of a L40 - Satellite - 18 that came with a XP SP2 as OS, everything was going fine until it crashes and showed me the blue screen (image memory) I thought at first, he was leaking memory simple and downloaded a RAM cleaner free, unfortunately only a blue screen came again and after that a black requesting the original installation CD , and my happiness is gone!

The guarantee being the dealer about equipment, agreed after a long beg for help me to reinstall the drivers and OS for little money!
Am back with my new OS, the computer began to hang! over and over again! obtained from the dealer, same question! but in vain. Browsing the official website, I found the drivers and the installation order, who tried, but in vain, it crashes again!

So help me please, I think I'm losing my cell phone!

Thank you

What you mean under crashes? Can you be more specific with your explanation? Is laptop crashes if you use the same request over and over again or what?

To be honest, none of us know what you are doing with your laptop and what are the applications that you use. Please try to explain exactly what is happening. One last thing: do you have an original Toshiba WXP recovery media for your model of laptop (L40 - xxx)?

  • Satellite L40 - windows xp x 64 drivers

    Hello

I recently bought a laptop Satellite L40 - 14H. As I understand it, Windows XP x 64 is not officially supported. Nevertheless, I managed to install the operating system, by integrating the x 64 I found in the CD to install drivers (downloaded from the [search drivers | http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU] page). Currently I have working drivers for the wired network adapter and wireless, integrated sound, display and of course the SATA drive. However, I can't seem to find the drivers 64 bit for the integrated modem PCMCIA (?) card reader - not that I need that wrong, but it would be nice to get rid the two small yellow question marks in the XP Device Manager. (Windows recognizes one of these devices, as the modem, the other is an unknown device with identifier ACPI\ATK0100).

However, is there any x 64 version of the application that makes the Fn keys work? I assume that the x 86 versions will not work with the 64-bit XP, especially if they rely on the installation of additional drivers.

On another note, is it possible to make the utility Intel display stop adding its entries (those the names of properties and graphics Options) in the menu that appears when I right-click on the windows desktop?

Thanks in advance for any help.

As you say doesn t Toshiba supports the OS 64-bit at the moment.
This means that all 64-bit drivers, tools or utilities don't exist on the Toshiba driver page.

If you want to use the features of the laptop as for example the FN keys you will need a special driver. But as already mentioned drivers 64-bit don t exist and therefore, use of the FN keys is not possible running 64 bit OS.

  • File Explorer Windows 8 crashes often

I have two new 8 PC under Windows - purchased separately, for the office and a laptop - desktop and both have the same problem with the file Explorer: fails.

File Explorer looks incredibly unstable, that it crashes several times a day, sometimes several times after another while doing a simple copy/paste.
The full desktop gray out and restarts.
I don't know that there is no solution to this because I think that Windows 8 has not matured and he feels buggy Vista, but all suggestions are welcome.

    Hi PA_Rush,

Have you installed new software that may have created a Manager right click context menu?

By your description of the problem that the software may have been software to view the photos.

If so, uninstall this software or disable Management menu for the context of the software.

If you are not sure about the software the following link has some info and download ShellExView you can use to selectively disable third-party management context menus to find a problem:

    http://WindowsXP.MVPs.org/slowrightclick.htm

You can try to disable all managers of context menus not Microsoft and then, if the problem resolves to reactivate them one at a time to see what the problem was.

  • Windows 8 crashes often and during reboots

I just got a new Lenovo Y410p the other day. There the new i7 and 2.4 ghz processor haswell. In windows 8, after an update (I think it was due to the updated, but not quite sure), my computer freezes during almost any process anyone surfing the internet, explore, antivirus scans, etc. It does not completely freeze, I can still move my mouse and windows program around, but EACH program rowed terribly and takes a few minutes to complete the simplest of tasks. I constantly have to do a closed down hard because it hangs on reboot screen and does is display "reboot" with the movement of the circle of load and displacement, but it does not restart. If I have too many programs open, my computer crashes. My mouse freezes never really, but programs to make and I can't do anything. It becomes very frustrating. I downloaded all possible win8 updates and tried to download the driver for my graphics card. I tried to run CCleaner to reduce bootups program at startup and to clean the registry. He tries to remove some files not in the registry windows in general but can never finish the deletion of those articles since it crashes.

  • Windows Explorer crashes constantly on the new Asus

I bought a new X53SV-SX288V Asus with windows 7 64 bit on it and after installing some programs Windows Explorer crashes constantly for some reason any...

I have restored the pc to factory a couple of times now, hoping it might fix the problem, but it is persistent...

Windows Explorer crashes often and sometimes it seems that the problem has disappeared, but then it happens randomly. When I restart the Explorer usually just, it freezes again and gives me the same error permanently after each restart of Explorer... it just crashes, restarts, block immediately, restart and so on...

I don't know what to do. I'm not much of a geek...

The thing is, the problem occurs only after you have installed programs. Not directly after the time I restore settings, is probably not a hardware problem (I think).

Still, I installed an antivirus before anything else.
First of all, I tried Comodo several times. Then Avira. And now I'm with AVG. Thus, all the programs I download should be good.

Side note: programs Evernote who install are all widely used programs like CCleaner, Skype, iTunes, Chrome,... All of their own websites, so I do not understand how they are the problem.

Is it possible that this is a problem material, even when the problem occurs only after you have installed (well known) programs?

    How to fix this problem?

Here is the message that comes up with the error:

The shell extension which seems to be the cause of the accident is the ASUSWSShellExt64.dll:

  • Satellite Pro L40 and it crashes and freezes

    Hi guys

I have a Satellite Pro L40 and it crashed on me a few weeks ago.
It will turn upward, but everything freezes.

They gave me a copy of Vista to friend, but this only loads until it said 74.5 MB necessary and only 74.4 on the partition so I guess it does not load the full program of vista.

I don't have the original backup drive so cannot use it.
Is my only need to get a new hard drive and if what kind do you recommend.

Sorry if I have'nt it explains very well

    Derek

In my opinion, it is always good to have original Toshiba DVD facilities. If you want to order a visit https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx, and how much you should pay for it.

As Akuma wrote before starting installation Vista delete existing partitions, create new and install Vista on it. I don't think that you need a new HARD drive.

  • Windows XP installation is not possible on my Satellite L40

I had a Toshiba Satellite L40 32 computer with vista preinstalled premium pieces. Once I managed to install XP in dual boot vista/xp thanks to vistabootpro. But my computer has been infected by a virus and because I couldn't clear it, I formatted my XP partition.

I tried to reinstall windows XP, but in computer installation warmed me that there was a file that could not be installed and I choose to click 'ignore' and my computer started automatically on my vista operating system. I checked if it was not because my CD is not bootable, by nothing, because I use it on another computer to install vista.

I would like to know what is happening?

For the installation of Windows XP Home edition, you need the Intel Storage Manager. Without this disk manager HARD won't be visible for the installation of Windows XP Home edition.
About installing Windows XP Home on Satellite L40 edition you will find so many threads. Use the option search on this forum and you will find a lot of discussions with explanation how to install WXP on L40.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite L40 - cannot read with Windows XP SDHC cards?

    Hello

last year, I bought a Satellite L40 series and a Windows Vista has been installed on it. I found that everything worked properly.

Since then, I found that Windows Vista is slower than XP, I upgraded to Windows XP and I installed all the drivers manually. Everything works fine until I found that I can read only SD card with the Ricoh card reader on my laptop. With Windows Vista, he could read SD and SDHC.

Like all of my files saved to the SDHC, I really want to solve this issue.

I detected on the computer that is my card reader equipment:

Ricoh Memory Stick Host controller (1.0.2.5)
    Ricoh MMC Host COntroller (1.0.0.9)
    Ricoh XD-Picture Card Host Controller (1.00.02.08 / 6.0.1.13)

    The questions are:
    1. the drive to read SDHC card with the Windows XP platform?
    2. If Yes, what should I do with it? Maybe I need to install a new driver? (If Yes, where can I find it?)

Thank you for your concern. I'm really happy if you can help me solve this issue.

    Best regards
    Jenny

    Hello

You may notice yellow exclamation in Device Manager?

Normally, the Satellite L40 can read SDHC cards up to 8 GB so my question is have you tried different brands of SDHC cards?
I have good experiences with Kingston and SanDisk cards.

In addition, you should check the Web from Toshiba site for an update of the card reader:

Last but not least you have installed all the Service Packs and updates for Windows?

  • Satellite L40 - no sound after reinstalling Windows XP Home edition

I really need help from anyone out there. I installed Windows XP Home edition on my Toshiba Satellite L40 after that I realized, there is no sound. I tried to install all kinds of updates, drivers and all, but still nothing.

All make me is that I have no audio device.
Grateful for the help as soon as possible.
    Holla.

Do you have the yellow marks in Device Manager?
Are you sure that you have installed all the drivers?

Have you installed SP2 or SP3 for Windows XP? You must at least use SP2 for XP.

And as said Akuma, check the Microsoft KB to the hoftixes. Before you apply this update, you must remove the driver. Otherwise it will not work.

You can also search in the forum, there are already discussions on this topic.

  • Satellite L40-139 - need driver Windows XP Home edition for 'ethernet '.

Please can you send me the link to Satellite L40 ethernet control model of laptop for Windows XP Home edition?

    Hello

Satellite L40-139 belongs to the PSL40E series. Am I wrong?
You can check the serial number of your laptop. It should be placed somewhere at the bottom of the unit. Check all labels.

Anyway, the Toshiba driver European page doesn't provide XP drivers for this series at this time. Seems you have to wait a bit until all pilots to be released!

For the only moment that two versions of the BIOS for L40 PSL40E if released.
The BIOS must be updated to the XP version, if you want to use XP on this laptop.

By the way; It seems that this series is supported by the Base map - TX Ethernet Realtek 10/100.
Then you can try the LAN driver from the site Web of Realtek. Should also work.

    Good bye

  • Satellite L40 - F14 with Windows XP - seeing WiFi is disabled

    Hello!

I have satellite L40 - F14 with Windows XP Home SP2 - and everything works fine.
But there is a little problem with indicator LED WiFi - WiFi works normally.

    Help me please :)

Have you checked if the WLan switch on the side of the laptop is on? This switch activates and deactivates the WLan led. If this is not enough, I guess that there is a hardware problem. Perhaps some loose contacts, for example.
This can be corrected with any software update, I think that the technician should take a look in the notebook and should check this

    _*@chris4o*_
First of all it s very strange that your laptop has not delivered with any Windows operating system! Each new Toshiba notebook was shipped with the Windows operating system and the image of Toshiba should be already preinstalled.
In addition, you should find the Toshiba Recovery CD in the package. This CD contains all the drivers Toshiba, tools, Windows OS and additional software!

    With regard to the pixel dead;
Usually the internal laptop display can be replaced if a large amount of dead pixels would be displayed on the screen. There is an exactly information about replacing the screen.

    Please check this:
    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB5400ZD0002R01.htm

In any case, I recommend you really clarify this two issues from your laptop dealer! The laptop must have the OS!
