Satellite L40 with no Wi - Fi after Vista update

Hey there,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L40-137 and installed Service Pack 1 for Vista.
And now my WLan/Wifi is just disabled with no information which driver I need or something...

Well, it seems that this is a common problem, because I googled a lot of questions similar but found no adequate response.

A few facts:
(1) the small lamp at the bottom of the keyboard does not work
(2) the physician connectivity tells me just for wifi is 'disabled '.
(3) absolute nothing fn + f8

In case you got no work around, I would be very grateful! :)

Thank you very much
Heiko

What status has WLAN card in Device Manager?
Tender specifications it should be Atheros WLAN card inside.

    Hello

My problem is that I have updated the BIOS and after that the machine does not restart. (Corrupt BIOS?)

After that the BIOS updated (Satellite L40 PSL48E), reboot the machine and with the F2 key, I open the BIOS setup.
I check the version of the BIOS (5.50) and complete the configuration of the BIOS. The machine must restart now...
Not at all, the machine does not restart. No screen only the powerled lights.

I can to fix it on my own as a BIOS reset?

    Thank you for the cooperation.

It's strange because after that the updated BIOS update you can go into the BIOS.

However, try to remove the battery and the AC adapter. Wait one hour and then put the battery back in and connect the AC adapter. Try again.

If it doesn't work it is something wrong with the hardware or BIOS and must be checked by a technician for laptop.

    Hello!

I have laptop Satellite L40 - 14 H (PSL48E). I installed Windows XP, it worked fine, except the keypad is lit permanently so I couldn't enter a few symbols. I decided to install the special BIOS for WinXP, which downloaded from the Toshiba web site. The PSL48x model is in the support list. Change the windows flashing and reboot, I entered the BIOS to see what has changed. I saw nothing new, so I leave the WOOD and restart again.

Since then, turns on the phone, but the screen is not, it is black :-(((

  • Satellite P200 PSPB6: Collapsed control buttons working after Vista update

I have the Satellite P-200 model PSPB6 with Vista Home Premium for more than 1 year.
So far, there is no problem of material with him.

Although there are software problems, the most important of which is that the laptop sometimes fails to wake from Hibernate mode and the continuation of this failure. I need to reinstall the driver LAN at any time.

But a few days ago after a massive Vista (approximately 40 patches at the same time) update all the hardware buttons (for internet, Media Player, etc.) suddenly stopped working.
In fact, the only button I used actively was button, launch Internet Explorer, whereas, instead of opening the media player and by launching a media file in the menu much more ergonomic correspondent is just double click on the name of the file in a like Total Commander file manager.

Well, my first thought was that the drivers for these buttons have been destroyed following this update messy (I managed to install all updates,
except for Office 2003, after 5 attempts only partially successful, in the 6th!).
There is no sign of incorrect or missing drivers in Device Manager.

I've located the corresponding devices in the Device Manager under system devices---> button to launch the direct Application.
There are 3 devices with that name in Device Manager (although my laptop has 6 buttons). All of them are declared as "working properly", although none of the 6 buttons actually work.

The second idea was to use the tools of Toshiba. I found that there is a "Toshiba button Support" field in Toshiba Assist--> optimization, which opens a window
which I guessed (there is no description of the functions of this window or even simple mentioning of it in the user's guide) is used to reassign functions of the any of the buttons to launch applications defined by the user instead of browser by default, Media Player, etc..
But the strange thing is that there are only 2 fields instead of 6 in the drop-down list of the button names: 'Internet' and ' CD/DVD.

Well, I wrote 'C:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe' as the target path for the 'Internet' button and saved the button.
The button did not work so far :(

The third thing I did: I reinstalled the package with added value for the model 6 buttons. Without success :(((

If anyone knows how we can restore the function of the buttons - please help me.

And if someone can explain why the app for the model 6 button ignores these buttons 4
(and why the devices for 3 buttons appear in the Device Manager)-
This information would be useful as well.

Sorry! (P. 4-14 of the operating manual), I found the info on how to change the functions of the top 2 buttons - and it seems that the functions of
Only these 2 buttons are configurable, 4 others are fixed. And these fixed buttons actually work if Windows media player is launched.
So my question boils down to this: How can restore the function of the first two buttons (definable by the user)?

Hi, I read your post because I have the sam problem.
I have a new P300d - good machine - showing a lot of problems, although
So I installed vista business in v2.1 bios and the buttons works great.
After the updates, then the functions keys were different, so I downloaded and installed the package of value added. The only difference was that collapsed buttons not all working.
So I uninstalled the VAP and they worked as at the start.
Something else - find the ButtonSetting.ini file and try to change the functions of the keys here.
So I hope that it can give you another idea and help you in any way.

  • Satellite L40 PSL40E not wakes up after hibernation when the lid is closed

    Hello

    I had a serious problem with my L40 PSL40E:

If I put at the bottom of the screen I could not restart and had to reinstall Vista! After some updates it was fine for a few months now I've lost my entire hard drive AGAIN!

Friends told me that this has something to do with the hybernation mode or bios (?) and to download some driver bios?

But does not work the link to 02/11/2008

The link to the BIOS should work... I visited the European driver of Toshiba page and the links work without a doubt. Maybe you should try it again.

Generally, it is not a bad idea to update the BIOS and the operating system to the last State.
Vista still has many bugs and you should check the from time to time if a patches and hofixes have been released.

In the next time that the SP1 should be published, and you need to install the final version (if available).

Should I first remove this driver (and how?) and to install the driver on the Toshiba site?

Try to restore to an earlier time using System Restore option.

If everything works again DO NOT install updates for ALL pilot rating. Just install update marked as important. All others (optional) update SHOULD NOT be installed at all.

  • Loop of startup repair after vista update on 15-04-09

    .post a {text-decoration: underline ;}}

    Hello

I hope someone here can help me.  I tried Googling for solutions, but after having tried everything without success, I'm bringing my problem here.

I had gone through the internet when the program to close unexpectedly.   After trying to restart my laptop Dell 1720 (Windows Vista Home Premium), I went to bed after seeing the stage 2/3 update on the screen. It shows, in the morning, he can not start and gives me the ability to startup repair. After that, it is said that it cannot repair this computer automatically. Details of the problem are the following:
    Startup Repair V2
    AutoFailover
    6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6001.18000
    Bad driver
    WrpRepair

I tried to restore to previous restore points (all tell me there's a missing file, error code 0 x 80070002), safe mode, last known good configuration and I end up in the same loop of startup repair. I have not installed recent programs, drivers and devices.  I am depressed and want to avoid going back to a factory installation since I've had this laptop for a year and have a ton of files and programs.  Anyone with any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

ETA: I also run chkdsk (no errors found) and sfc/scannow (Windows Resource Protection cannot run task or something like that).

In fact, my problem has been able to start Windows Vista after the last update (14/04/09) install.  The error code came when I tried to restore my system to my restore points.  Finally I ended up taking my hd to access my data.  Then I tried to reinstall Vista from Dell provided and had problems reinstall drive to do so (hung up END INSTALLATION).  A call to Dell support had me change some of my BIOS settings and finally managed to get Vista installed.  Now, I'm in the painful process of restoring all my programs and personal data.  This time, I created a partition for the operating system and a separate for all my photos, music, etc. so I don't have this problem of losing all my data the next time the fact once again Vista (and it will be!  I already lived 2 BSOD since reinstalling 2 days ago!)  So, there was no solution to my original post.  Good luck to everyone else who has the same problem with the Vista updates.

    Hello

Here's something that I put in place when the posters have problems with Windows updates.

They must be both to find the problem, we tried.

But it takes a material one, graphics, etc. to limit.

You do not have to install an update problem will continue to cause problems for you.

Is there a way to get around that.

Microsoft gives sometimes you updates for the 3rd party hardware: graphics, network cards, etc.

You should only get the latest drivers for them to real hardware manufacturer's website, as Microsoft normally does nor those have the most recent drivers available as Microsoft relies of the 3rd party hardware Manufactuer to provide.

But unfortunately, the only way to know which is the update of the problem is to install them one by one, until you find the 'wrong' for your installation.

You can do a system restore to get back until it has been installed (which is NOT the best way to remove an update) or follow this method:

    'Remove an update'

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/remove-an-update

When you have found the issue of update of the list of updates which is presented > then right click on the update problem > select Hide update > and it will not be available to you once again

"How to hide or show an update of Windows Vista"

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/72491-Windows-Update.html

Here's how to chanage update settings, if you think it is necessary to:

"Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/Windows-Vista-updates-and-extras/

    Or the other of these two update settings will give you the chance to see what you want to install through Windows updates;

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Windows will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

But remember you normally only have problems with hardware 3rd party drivers. Other updates are to improve the Performance and security of your system

    See you soon.
