  I guess you wanted to say the Win 8.1 and not win 8 because the laptop came preinstalled with Win 8.1

  You must follow exactly the instructions step by step, as indicated on the page to update Toshiba win 8.1.
  But of course, if you would uninstall the WLan driver, you would NOT be able to use the Wi - Fi connection.
