Satellite L500-1DT - HDD the smart predict service failures

Hello

I have a Satellite L500-1DT and the last days he started to say "your HARD drive has the smart predict function failures"-is that what I did for her or is it a problem to manufacturers? I only got two months.

Anyone know if I can fix it myself?
I have just in Spain and I'm here for the next two months.

I'm useless with technology...

Any help would be good.

Thank you!!

Kate

Please don't fix anything alone. New notebook has warranty valid so if something goes wrong the affected parts must be replaced and warranty will cover all costs.

Visit THIS page and read what means SMART.
In other words, your HARD disk goes wrong so please back up all your important data and contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

I don't know where you live in Spain, but to find the nearest Toshiba authorized maintainer visit the Toshiba support page under
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > find an ASP contact them as soon as possible.

Good luck!

    Hello

This looks to drive HARD going wrong and in this case the Get procedure isn't a real solution.
I think you need to replace the HARD drive in order to solve this problem.

The laptop supports version 2.5 SATA HDD and I think you should find some good deals online in your area.

By the way: after replacing HARD drive, you should be able to recover the laptop using the recovery disk.

  • Satellite L500-1DT: HDD Recovery of Win 7 is stuck in an endless loop

It's a so detailed bug report please bear with me.
If you can help, or can confirm that you have had the same thing happen to you, I will be grateful.

I've owned several Toshiba laptops before and I've even worked for Toshiba so worry, I like the machine. But I have a problem with his recovery software. I just bought a laptop Satellite L500-1DT with Windows 7 64 bit, on behalf of a non-techie who lives elsewhere. Since I know from experience that I have to sometimes panic calls from field in the sense of "it became too slow", "How do I get rid of the accumulated junk", "maybe he had a virus" and so on, the first thing I checked was ASR, which is how to bring the HD to "like new" condition.

So I started out in the machine, replied to the questions until I got in the appropriate operating system, then led the program "make a recovery DVD. Double layer DVD checked ok. With the freshly made DVDs, I swapped the HD for a spare part, I had (much less: only 40 GB instead of 320) and started the rescue DVD hoping it would fix my own system to the blank disc.

He did repartition the drive according to its schema, with more or less half the space for Windows and the other half for the data, including the recovery files. He did install the system in the Windows partition. It was then restarted in Windows 7 installed in order to complete the installation. There, the trouble began: an endless loop of reboots for hours until what I stopped it.

    Loop:
    * reset
    * black screen with bright logo 4 color windows «windows startup»
    * black screen with slight blade and "Setup prepares your computer for first use.
    * blue white screen "Welcome" with "please wait" and the crossbar with green blob, saying "the installation may take several minutes. Please do not interrupt or shut down the computer! »
    * blue screen saying it stops

    Repeat the above forever.

I saw him restart way more than 10 times over several hours. And whenever he's faking, that this is the first time she did it. Of course, this is not normal!

I tried to stop with ctrl-alt-del and the Task Manager, but the white screen would go even the Task Manager, making it difficult to kill any process or even inspect what they were on top. I stopped it by holding down the power button until it shuts. Then when it restarts it said that if I wanted safe mode. I tried. He went into the routine above and at one point he says that he could not proceed with the installation, if it was in safe mode. So he restarted in normal mode and then...! It is finally out of the endless loop!

Then he asked me all the usual language, record etc., questions as he did the first time I had turned on him. This seemed good. Finally, I walked into a newly installed operating system and everything seemed fine, except that I found out later that some programs that were there before were not installed.
With bravery bordering stupidity (*) I even Redid the procedure hard disk provided instead of my rescue: first I have nuked the windows partition, then I save the HD (with F8), not with the DVD that I had done. Result: similar rigmarole, with endless reboot.

After that I stopped it, it kind-of-worked, as above, but now some programs were lacking, such as the Toshiba DVD drive.

(*) motivated by: better try now with the computer here and all my tools and other computers ready at hand, that when the computer died at home of its owner, and that's the only thing left to try with me at the other end of a line call. Been there before.

Now, that specific (DVD player), that I could download it from the support page and it installed fine. But what else might be missing or not working not that I have not noticed? The restore process is clearly not working as it should.

I'm the first or only to whom it happens? I'm doing something wrong? Is there anything else I should try?

I need to make sure that the restore procedure works perfectly while I still have the computer in my hands. If not, there is no chance that I'll be able to do a remote reinstall for my non-techie, once I asks me to clean the laptop by phone a few months from now.

    Thanks in advance

[Update: just looking for the right place where I could post what I found that other people report the same problem.] This is definitely a bug in the software distributed for W7 - 64 overlay, not a problem isolated to my machine. See for example
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=49421&TSTART=0 where the user kwarc described the same symptoms with a Satellite L505.

    Hello

First of all, I must say that I could recover my trouble free unit.
The installation of Win 7 went well and everything has been installed correctly.

    Back to you:
To me it looks like something wrong with installation maybe some HARD drive partitions were confues perhaps, HARD drive should again formatted, and then run the recovery procedure.
    You should test

    Regarding the DVD player:
As much as I know there is no DVD player for Win 7 64 bit. There are only available for Win 64 bit updated. If you need to install the DVD player for Win 7 32 bit version and then update using the patch released for Win7 64 bit.

  • Satellite L500-1DT - where to find the audio driver?

Just reformat the laptop, went from windows 7 64 bit for windows 7 32 bit. Reformatted the disk that came with the laptop. I have no sound at all, the sound worked perfectly before and it keeps saying that I have no sound card. I tried to install the audio drivers but I can't find the right on the site with my model.

I have a satellite L500-1DT with model PSLSOE.

Tried to install the drivers available and I just get an application error after installation

no idea how to fix it or where to find the correct drivers?

    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

To be honest I n don't know what problems you have with the driver audio but that's in the right place for all drivers:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers
    Laptop > Satellite > Satellite L Series > Satellite L500 > PSLS0E

But before installing the latest version, remove the current version first and clean the registry with CCleaner

  • Webcam does not work on Satellite L500-1DT

Recently got a Satellite L500-1DT for my mother who is learning to use a computer for the first time and everything works apart from the webcam integrated, that was a big part of the decision to purchase.

The blue light comes on and it records sound but no pictures. Also, it does not take the photo or tour and in both cases just shows the image of cloudy sunset which seems to be a default turned on the program. I tried troubleshooting for her, but there is nothing in the help guide that tells you how to solve this problem, if it doesn't work.
The software is already preloaded when it was purchased (we got it online) and I don't want to uninstall it because I don't think that we have a record.

    Can anyone help?

    Hey Buddy!

I m not very good but in my opinion you should try to reinstall the driver for the webcam. Just check the Toshiba page for an update:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com

But before installing the latest version, first remove the old and reboot the laptop.

Regarding the disc you want to say, as far as I know Toshiba laptop will not be delivered with the recovery disk. This means that you must create yourself using Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator. This disc contains an image on the factory settings. It is the same version that you have started the laptop, the first time.

By the way: normally after the first boot, you should get a message of this type. Can you confirm this?

  • Satellite L500 - cannot run the DVD-ROM games

I am currently having problems with my Toshiba Satellite L500 series. The problem is, I can run purchased audio CD, as well as DVDs of the films, but I can't run games DVDrom. Music CD will automatically start Media Player very well, as well as films in their corresponding players... Games (like Dragon Age Origins and Left 4 Dead) DVD - ROM cannot read, or be recognized. When I go to "Computer" and try to access the game, it says "no available disk. Please insert disc into drive D: ". So from what I understand, the CD/DVD-rom may not be completely broken if he reads all types, except for games to DVDrom.

Can someone help me with this please! It is quite frustrating because my computer is just now to a year! I wouldn't think that all computer companies sell computers that fall apart after a year... I was hoping that it was different with Toshiba.

Once more, the CD/DVD-ROM can read CD and DVD of the film, but NOT the games to DVDrom. Help, please! Thanks in advance!

    Hi adecker,.

Maybe it s caused due the upper and lower filters in the registry. You should try to remove as you can read in this article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314060

I had a similar problem that some discs can't be read more. And I went thorugh based forum to clean the CD/DVD drive lens with a microfibre cloth. Be careful if you do this and don't scratch the lens.

  • Satellite L500-1XC HDD Recovery help

Hi I have a Satellite L500-1XC of second hand, the former owner has installed Ubuntu (which I can't access because of password) as well as windows 7 and I try restore laptop to factory settings, but I just don't know how.

I tried to turn it off and holding, then 0 and pressing the Start button. On the bottom of the home screen says HDD Recovery at the bottom left of the screen, but after that, he just the part of the selection for me to choose Ubuntu or Windows 7 and then just charge the laptop as usual.

I tried to get the Recovery Media Creator, but I'm not. It seems that a lot of original Toshiba Utilities and supports have been removed.

If anyone can help me fix this laptop, I'd be so grateful that I can not really afford to buy a Toshiba Recovery disk.

    Thank you

    > I'm trying to restore the laptop to factory settings, but I just don't know how
I put t I think that HARD drive recovery would work because Linux has been installed on the HARD drive and I think that the partition table has been changed.
This might be the reason why the HDD recovery isn't working.

You can always see this Toshiba document that describes the whole HARD drive recovery procedure:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

So now, drive HARD recovery does not work in this case, you can only use the installation disc.
You can try to install Windows 7 using the Microsoft disk (Toshiba drivers are downloadable) or you order the disc of Arvato:
    http://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

  • Satellite L500 - cannot install the Intel video driver

    Ok
complete failure of the hard drive, no recovery cd was created, reloaded windows 7, looked up and downloaded the drivers from Toshiba, BUT there are only two video drivers listed, amd and Intel, both marked "for model only supported" its an Intel machine so I tried the Intel driver but it doesn't install, it just closes which I believe if the corresponding material is not found is the default action for these drivers.

But I'm stuck with 'standard VGA graphics adapt' all other drivers loaded perfectly, (I installed the driver from chipset Intel first and rebooted, so it should be ok but it s not)

    Any ideas?

  • Satellite L500-164 - has the touchpad scrolling feature?

    Hello
I am interested in buying the laptop L500-164.

Can someone tell me if this phone has a touchpad with scroll function?
And so, only the page down, or "from left to right?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Yes, the Satellite L500 supports virtual scrolling.

But that's why you need the driver for the touchpad, this feature is software based on other laptops. It is not a problem because the driver is already preinstalled and more you can download on the page of Toshiba. :)

Fun with a new Satellite L500. A friend bought me too and it s really great and the price is also good.

  • Satellite L500-1UU - disconnect the battery when it is connected to the AC adapter / CC

    Hello world

I have purshaced new Toshiba Satellite L500-1UU
    CPU: Intel (r) Core i3 CPU M330 2.13 GHz
    Physical memory: 4096MB RAM
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7600

My question is: remove the battery when I use my computer laptop while its connected to the AC adapter would be wise or not? This would increase or decrease the life of the battery, or it will not affect anything?

Is i3 processors have a technique of centrino disconnect battery power whent, it is fully charged?

What do you think of this?

    Hi Khaild Essam,

I agree with Akuma. There is no problem, remove the battery when the AC/DC adapter is connected. If you can do it. In addition the battery charge will be stopped if it s at full charge. The laptop consumes energy to AC/DC adapter only.

If you remove the battery and work with AC/DC adapter only, the battery life will be improved a little because it s not in its use.

I found an interesting document for you:

  • Satellite L500-19 - remove the recovery partition and create new

    Hello!

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite L500-19th with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). So far, everything is brilliant work.
I have already created the recovery DVDs.
As a result, could now delete the partition with the recovery program? I want to use the full space of my hard disk and create partitions as I want.
But I don't know how I should do this?
    Could you please help me?

    Oxford

If you are sure that the created recovery DVD is ok at 100%, you can delete all data on the second partition.
Open Windows Explorer on the left side where is the second partition, click with the right button of the mouse and choose the FORMAT option.
Choose the quick format option and click START.

After a minute or two, all data will be gone.

Please note: in the future when you want to use recovery DVD for installing Win7 the whole HARD disk is deleted and you will lose all your data.
Using recovery DVD you can not format the C partition only.
