Satellite L500D slow downs

This computer used to run fairly well (it is a dual core Athlon).

Now, it is slow as a wet week.

I disabled everything that can possibly be put off.

I have same low leveled it for WinXP (from Win7)... on the assumption that it might be a piece of software that I couldn't find.

It is still slow.

Which makes me suspect that it's a hardware problem. The obvious risk culprit is the hard drive.

So far, none of the tests I ran suggested that the player is running slowly.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to diagnose or fix this slow down? Or did someone else having the same problem?

:-)

Hello

What exactly do you mean by slow down?
A race of demand slowly or load slowly?
What is the freezing of the system or what is exactly happening?

If you want to check the HARD drive, I recommend using a free tool called the HDD drive fitness test.
Its nice tool and it allows you to get detailed information from fitness on your HARD drive.

Just jumped a nine M100 XP upgraded to SP2 on our network and have problems with Wifi.

Everything works, just really slowly. Takes about 5 minutes to drag an MP3 off file server, download web pages at the speed of a dial-up modem and my beard length doubles wait even a modest flash file to load.

Have tried so far the following...

-Speed is good on the ethernet cable, but not on wifi.
-The connection is good on the wifi (11 Mbit/s) and the signal strength is excellent.
-All other laptops on the network are quick work
-J' updated the drivers for the last provided by intel, no change
-J' applied all the service packs and updates to XP (was a brand new box yesterday)
-Deactivation of different modes on the driver to make no difference
-Disabling the QoS mode in the double network data NET Panel

I see messages earlier that I'm not the only one who had this problem with Intel 3945ABG chip, but I do not see a solution of publication. Anyone who has been successful is to solve this kind of problem.

The data rate is barely usable to access internet and quite ineffective for LAN filesharing or Skype.

    Hello

    > Connection speed is good on wifi (11 Mbit/s) and the signal strength is excellent.

Well, seems that your wireless network card works on 802.11 standard B
In the WLan card properties, you can try to set different options! I remember that you can find the options in the Advanced tab

By the way: have you tried to disable the scanning engine antivirus software during moving file

  • Satellite S500-10F - slowed down and need BIOS update

Hello, I would like to know if anyone can help.

I work for a Borough Council IT Department, so it is quite safe to say that I know a fair bit on THIS and the side material things. We had an about 12 laptops Toshiba Satellite S500 delivered, 11 x S500 - 11 c and 1 x S500-10F. As we do not yet support windows 7 so he must rebuild in Windows XP, install the drivers etc, and send them to schools.

All S500 - 11 c were built and work without any problem at all. The only difference I see is that the model 10F doesn't have bluetooth so that the model 11 c. Model 10F take image ghost, created from the 11 c, but he likes to be restart every 5 minutes approximately and is extremely slow.

So I rebuilt the model 10F using our licenses CD XP SP3 Microsoft and started to install drivers etc. When I installed the software of card reader Ricoh the laptop again slowed down (about 5 minutes to start Windows). I used to have a similar problem with a model on the A300 range and I've updated the BIOS which cured the problem. I downloaded the one and only BIOS update on the Toshiba site for the S500 and when I want intsaller, he returned with a message that says "this computer is is not supported.

If someone at Toshiba can tell me where I can get an update of the BIOS that works for my S500-10F or indeed why my system slowed down to a snails pace after having installed the Ricoh card reader software I would be very grateful. I removed the software and now and disabled without success card reader devices.

    Thank you very much

I can see for this Satellite Pro model 2 drivers are available. The second is O2Micro controller version 1.1.4.207 card reader.

  • Satellite A500 - 17 X - Games slows down if I play on battery mode

    Hello
When my laptop (Satellite A500 - 17 X) is connected, the game I play (Call Of Duty 4) works very nice, but if I try to play the game while my laptop is on battery, the game slows down. If you know what I mean.

Is this supposed to happen because the graphics card does not work well when the notebook is on battery or something wrong with my laptop?

    Hello

That's is a bit strange, I've never had such a problem and I don t often play on battery mode, only on AC/DC adapter.

The only idea I have for the moment, is that you should check the power Windows settings. Maybe in the power profile that you use is something different for battery operation, e. g. CPU maximum performance set to 50% for battery operation.
    Check it!

Here is a good article on these parameters:

  • Satellite A100-545: noise intermittently slowing down the

Satellite A100-545 when read no matter what audio work for example DVD CD or say Skype, MSM etc. sound intermittently slowing down for a few seconds then returns to normal, I downloaded the latest audio drivers.

    Hello

Eventually it s only a matter of wrong setting.
Toshiba virtual audio utility should be preinstalled on this laptop.
Here, you can change some parameters such as the configuration of low frequency or high frequency sounds configuration

I have sought similar questions in this forum and on the Satellite A100, sound problems has been resolved by updating the BIOS, then the audio driver.
I don't know if this will help, but if the new version is available, you can try to update the BIOS of Mr. but do not forget to use the good BIOS because evil can damage the motherboard.

I also do YouTube and when I'm trying to play and record I notice that my fan upward speed was normal frames then all of a sudden my fan slows to 20% and I get 5 images and very choppy videos

If someone could help me that would be very nice.
    Thanks :)

    Hello

From my point of view of a few notebook slow downs due to CPU Overload and temperature internal.
Due to the high amount of processes that are running at the same time, the CPU and the GPU to go up to the limit. The result is a high heat generated by the CPU and the GPU, and it's why modules and the cooling fan run faster.

After that will decrease the performance of the GPU/CPU to reduce the heat. This process slow down the fan and, of course, this affects video performance.

I think first of all you must check if the vents are free of dust. The CPU and the GPU require proper cooling and therefore cooling grids as well as turbine must be free of dust and debris.

I recommend also to check the window power management settings advanced.
There you can change the mode of cooling as well as the performance of the CPU and GPU.

Last but not the lower installation of a clean system could also be useful. Why?
Because the system might be overloaded by different background processes that slow down the system and lock the CPU

  • Slow down the Satellite A40 - how to set factory settings

I have a Satellite A40 series and over time it began to slow down. I want to do is go back to its factory settings.

Everyone there of suggestions on how to get there.

    Thanking you in advance.

You want to redefine the laptop to factory settings?

Well, it's very easy why you n t use the Toshiba Recovery CD?
This CD contains an image of Toshiba, which has been preinstalled on the laptop at the beginning.

Just boot from the recovery CD and follow the instructions on the screen

But note; the recovery CD would format the whole HARD drive. So you backup important data first if you need it at a later time.

  • Satellite Pro P100 - 465 Vista - video playback stutters, slows down

I'm at my wits end :-(

updated the drivers uninstalled - re installed drivers - drivers (nvidia does not even list the Go 7600 graphics card for vista - used another recommmened site on this site) - changed the resolution of the screen, changed bit screen depth, removed anti virus - a lot of system resources still available on each reading single video file slows down and speeds up or stutters especially bad when I have full screen.

Tried different video files and DVD, different codecs and players, vlc, media player classic, display the time of Nero, WMP etc etc, all are made. Looks like others have had similar problems and thought that maybe they had other ideas to solve this one?

Is there something that I have not tried? Please let me know... Thanks for your help

  • Slow down with games and video on a Satellite P100-286

When to play games and watch the video of the computer really slow down. This does not happen immediately, but after a little while.

I check the Task Manager to see if anything else is running and the dwrm.exe has a heavy load of CPU, add to the use of the processor of the game and the two pocessors are struggling, as seen on the gadget processors. The games are unplayable and video very bad when this happens.

When none of those who are running, dwrm.exe is 02 CPU usage when either run dwrm.exe is 45 CPU.

Is this a Vista problem? If anyone can help, I would be grateful or should I call Toshiba?

    Hello

can you describe the programs you have on your system? Maybe theres some program that looks at your other programs (perhaps an Antivirus or a private firewall or something else) and suck your platform performance.

A suggestion from me: try to uninstall some programs that you have installed and beware of what your machine.

So, I have to say that Vista needs a lot of resources, and there are so many people who is angry and frustrated of stand-alone and Vista, so I am too.
But let´s wait, because out of XP, it was the same thing with the first service pack they solve so many problems and triggered the performance of this system for anyone who can work now and is enjoying XP.

  • Satellite P35-S605 slows down after a few minutes, then BSOD

I am running Windows XP Pro and have contributed the most to the RAM on my P35.

I had a local computer repair shop disassemble, clean all the dust and junk on, remove the processor and reinstall using thermal transfer compound. The computer has worked fine until I did this. When I came back and turned it on it started OK but started to slow down until the barley by working, and then I got the BSOD. After the memory dump, it restarted and repeat the process. After having tried several reboots, I finally gave up and called the computer repair shop I had used and returned to them. After a day, they said, it must be my drive hard because they replaced my hard drive with one of their and he ran all night with no problems. I had an old hard drive that I had removed from this machine, a few weeks before to move to a bigger so I put the old back road. The same problem remained. I again called the repair shop and told them what I had done, but they said they couldn't help me. I'm not recommedn this shop to anyone.

I was myself so after that reading many articles on the Internet, I desided to try to fix it myself. I erased the hard disk using a set 0 wipe the program. I did a disk image using Acronis before I took the computer to the repair shop, so I have restored the image. I still have the same problem!

Someone at - it suggestions on what I might try (other than a clean reinstall of Windows).

Say the event viewer when you start after an accident?

Personally I'll be back to the top of what you need and try a new installation of windows.

Check Device Manager and see if there is something contradictory too...

In fact what would be useful is if you can list the steps you have tried so far, so we don't waste your time with useless suggestions :)

I'll be watching this thread for an answer, so I'll get back to you.

  • Satellite P300 - slow laptop with 100% CPU usage

    Hello

    I ve bought a P300 Satellite a week ago.
The problem is that my laptop is very slow. When I run Vista it takes 3-4 minutes.
When I open WMP it takes 30 to 40 seconds, and when I play a movie she shocked all the time.
The CPU is at 100% constantly.
The other times when I start my laptop it works normally.
What is the problem? I didn't install any programs, I just did the installation for Vista, and that's all!
Can I do a clean install of Vista? I can't do anything with it now...

Thx for the help and sorry for my bad English :)

Did you install Vista using the recovery disk?

Or did you use a copy of the street / retail Vista?

Go to Device Manager and search for devices that have a yellow exclamation. If some devices have drivers installed (for example, the driver display), it can slow down the system.

Vista needs at least 1 GB memory to work properly (2 GB recommended), so if you have only 512MB, Vista runs very slowly, and you need to upgrade the memory.

  • Satellite L750 slow to load windows

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L750/L755, and I had some problems starting windows after you use the tool/toshiba recovery disk

    So, this is what happened:

I reached the maximum capacity on the C: drive, so I started data transfer to D: drive that was too slow, so I cancelled, it is when the computer froze and I had to stop it manually.

I could not turn it back on so I used the "toshiba recovery" tool to make it back on, it worked; the problem is that the computer toke half forever to complete loading of windows, so I reused the "toshiba recovery tool" and ended the same. I also tried to run a repair of the registry, check the volume errors, nothing seems to work.

    I welcome any help

    Thank you

    Hello

I understand this correctly? Notepad starts very slowly. Right?
From my own experience, a lot of different process begins when the laptop starts.
You can check the msconfig-> Startup tab

In many cases, these are Toshiba processes that control the characteristics of different laptops and multimedia keys, FN keys, energy ECO-mode, etc.
Also antivirus software slowing down the boot process.
What antivirus software do you use?

I use the avast! and the Avira antivir software. Both can be downloaded for free.
I have remove the Symantec Norton Antivirus software preinstalled, because it needs a lot of resources and slow down my laptop extremely.

  • Satellite L500D - high all the time CPU usage

    Hi guys,.

help a friend with a laptop, the thing was really slow had vista on it, so formatted and installed win7 x 64. It's a toshiba satellite l500d-pslk0a-00r009. Dual core 2.2 ghz. 4 GB RAM. (did a new install not updated)

Even on an installation of vanilla, just running windows only update is trolling the heck out of him. CPU is sitting at 100%, but looking at the process that they all sit at zero. I can't see what process is the cause.

Web browser opening is really offbeat it will freeze and say does not then come back after some time.

temperatures are good (50deg C). Power profile is very good. Even turned off all the animations. always the same question.

RAM usage is less than 20%.

There is certainly a problem with the CPU, I ran the windows performance index, all rated in the Middle 4 except the CPU that qualified 2.0!

I've updated all the drivers etc. What else can I try and do to solve the problem of cpu?

    Hello

Try this: go into Device Manager and expand the entry processor and remove all entries from the CPU. Reboot the laptop.
After that the windows system should recognize the entries deleted once more.

After that I recommend you to check if the CPU performance.

  • Cam sex is not correctly recognized on Satellite L500D

    Hello

I have a Satellite L500D when I failed to connect in the web cam app appears and say web camera initialization. Please check your device and restart the application or computer.
I press ok and the application closes down so I checked the Device Manager and there is no camera device.
I downloaded the driver twice and that you don't always see the driver in the Device Manager box.

    Hello

    That s quite strange.
What is your laptop pre-installed with original Toshiba (factory State) recovery image?

Everything is possible and it can be faulty cam but the best way to find out is to install the OS using Toshiba HDD recovery facility. After doing this, you will have to new factory condition.
With the factory settings, each hardware component should work fine.

Do not install any additional software. After finishing OS installation webcam control functionality to see if the same thing happens again. If there is the same situation contact the closest service Toshiba and explain the situation.

  • Where can I find the drivers of Windows XP Home for Satellite L500D?

Just got my new laptop bueat you. It has AMD processor and stuff and is perfect. But I need to adapt to a new hard drive to install XP as I have always only on Win 7. I couldn't get it to dual boot, more like I do a clean install less all that junk factory installed.
I need XP drivers for the batch. The Australian Toshiba site isn't very useful and ascomprehensive than the United States and I find it difficult to find anything.

Yes I love XP because it has gave me free PCing struggling for a long time. Win7 is good but I need to do a full install of OS and I don't want to wipe WIN 7 either.

So if anyone knows where I can get the drivers made me know. I don't know which ones to go down the American site, their codes of models are different.
I build my own desk tops, so I would have a total control over everything, even this one.

    Hello

I found a few Win XP drivers for some series Satellite L500D on the European driver Toshiba page:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com

See the page and try to install drivers Win XP only.
All the other missing drivers, you will need to collect clean hands.
