Satellite L50D-B - faulty DVD drive does not recognize discs

Bought 2 months ago. The reader agrees not the CD, DVD or anything like that.
The name of the drive does not appear on the disc and if you double click on the DVD drive icon (even if a disc is inserted) the drawer opens and says please insert a disk. I tried several discs are not the issue.

So far I got technical support where I bought it.
They said to do a reinstall I did - with the full drive clean. I tried to update the drivers, but the computer insists on the fact that they are later. If I search my model number on the site of Toshiba driver support he gets rejected, and I have no access to (Toshiba) drivers.

I checked a few other forums and tried the regedit fix, but which is also irrelevant. If no solution is found (and I've lost hours of my life on this subject) then this laptop is going back for a refund and I'll get one who will perform the simple task of playing a DVD.

Hello

Sorry to hear that you have such a stupid problem with your machine. On this virtual path, it is not easy to say what the problem is here.
In my opinion you should not waste your time checking and search for some drivers who probably will not help at all.

Reinstall the original operating system that you have with your machine and test functionality with the factory settings. If the result is the same contact your reseller or Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help. They can check ODD and Exchange if necessary.

  • Tecra M4 - DVD player does not recognize discs in Vista

    Hello

After the installation of Vista my dvd player does not recognize discs!
No update XP! It was a clean install of Vista.

I found several links on the upper filter and lower registry entries this entry does not exist in my registry under the CDROM class.

I tried the XP disk it works fine and recognizes all.
Drivers are installed correctly no problem in Device Manager is invited.

So I have no idea how to run it, seems to be a Vista problem

Could someone help me? I am really frustrated to this topic

    Thanks for your help

    Maybe this helps:

-Remove the drive from Device Manager CD/DVD.
-Then access the registry and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    -Reboot the laptop

But what happens exactly? Which disks are not recognized?

  • Satellite L500-126-CD/DVD drive does not open very well unrolled

    Hello

I just got my second Satellite L500-126.
I traded my first for a new because the ESCAPE key got stuck sometimes and made a grinding sound.

Now, with my new one, I noticed that my dvd drive does not open very well unrolled and 2 bars of silver metal bit come out with the car when I open it.
    Is this normal?

Also, when I close the dvd player, I hear a little noise "ping!"
Like a spring, or something. Is that also normal?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 2 small bars of silver, but the reader of my laptop s contains two metals (runners, railway).
This is normal and these pieces are important to ensure that the drive can eject properly and could remain in a good position.
Still, you will hear a short click Open and close the drive.

    So I guess it's ok.

  • CD/DVD drive does not read discs on Equium A100

My cd/dvd drive does not read any discs be it, white, written or commercially written. It opens and closes and is light to show that he is working on. Device Manager indicates that the device is functioning properly.

Tried the update of drivers, no update available. Tried restoring the system back 1 day and 1 week and 1 month, then and still the problem cannot be corrected. When I put a cd/dvd in the drive and try to access it, it says: D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an i/o device error.

Can someone help me I tried everything my friends and I can think, or is it better to send just to toshiba warranty.

If the solution proposed by James will not help, you should try to remove the drive to CD/DVD in Device Manager.
After phone restart the operating system will recognize and initialize the disk again.

All DVD discs work very well on the other PC.
I am running Windows XP Professional with SP2.

This would be a matter of software protection?
All tried game DVDs are official records and not copies.
The NEC ND-4550 uses cdrom.sys as pilot.

Finally, I replaced the drive for a new one (Pioneer DVR-S18L) and everything now works as it should.
So I suspect that it's a hardware problem and not one that can be resolved by any of the Windows settings.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive

    the parameters.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

I'm not very well if the former satellite Pro A30 is able to boot from USB drive Mr. in this case, you can try to install the OS from USB flash stick.

  • Satellite L500-13D-CD/DVD drive does not read CD

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite l500-137 laptop with vista sp2.
There is a cd writes that my dvd drive would not read, the driver can read other CDs & DVDs well.
who says cd's seems to be fine as it can become red from the other computer.

    any suggestions?

    * Thanks to *.

    Hello

That means only one disc can be read from your laptop and all other disks can be read properly? Well, in my opinion, it could be a disc problem, maybe it's striped s and so it can t be read to all readers.

In your case, I would try to clean the lens of your CD/DVD drive. Therefore, you can use a microfibre cloth.
    Check it!

  • Satellite A100-773: CD/DVD player does not recognize the CD

    Hello friends,

    I have satellite A100-773.
When I turned on it today it does not recognize any CD. He acknowledges, however, DVD and can also burn CDs with Nero.

As soon as I put in a CD it says (in German) something like "access denied, unauthorized function.
It's a mystery to me what happened. Until yesterday, it was perfect. Now the same CD (and I tried 20) wouldn' work anymore.

I tried the recovery system to an earlier point in time, but it does not help. In the hardware Manager tells me that everything is going well.

Do you have any idea what it can be?

    Thank you very much

    Ognian

    Hello

In such cases, it s is not easy to say why it happens.
Usually if the drive cannot read media either material works badly or the CD / DVD is not compatible and taken in charge.

But we hope that the equipment is not damaged.
Try to remove the drive from Device Manager and restart the laptop.
After that restart of the operating system should recognize the drive again and load the driver. Then you could try to test the drive again.

I also found a very large Microsoft document on:

    and this:

The other possibility is to use the recovery CD to reinstall the OS.

  • The CD/DVD drive does not read discs

Hi, I have a COMPAQ Presario CQ40 with optiarc DVD RW AD - 7561 ATA Device driver, recently the drive does not work properly. It can read and burn the disc, that I already used, but when it's a new (disc white) it does not read the disc.  It has an error message "make sure that the disc uses a format windows recognizes. If the drive is not formatted, you must format it before you use it. "the disc is the format that would recognize the system.  I tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstalled from the Device Manager, but nothing works, tried too much microsoft fixit, always the same.  Hope that there is another work around here... Thank you...

Have you tried using other burning software?

  • CD/DVD drive does not recognize the DVD media disc.

    Greetings,

Had problems with my CD/DVD drive not being able to recognize that a DVDmovie disc is in the drive.

I tried to turn on/off, reinstalled the driver, update the driver, check if AutoPlay is enabled (currently set to invite me) and have used the Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting system which could not solve the problem.

I am able to burn data and audio files on CD/DVD very well, it will read the same types without problems.  But whenever a DVDmovie disc is, it does not recognize, there is a disc in the drive, or Autoplay hit.

Also clean the laser lens with isopropyl alcohol.

    Thoughts?

Honestly, I had not checked immediately after I cleaned the lens, but it works now.  I am convinced that cleaning the lens resolved.

I had posted this, and then read somewhere else to clean the lens, has made, edited my post saying I had it done and then tried a DVD and it worked.

  • New computer: DVD player does not recognize discs

I have this computer (HP Pavilion) about 3 months ago. It already came with windows 8 when I got it, is not a recent issue of download. When I put a game disc in the DVD drive for installation, it is yet to report an error, simply, it does not recognize the disc. I tried with a DVD film as well, and it's the same thing. I never used the drive before today and was super disappointed that it didn't work. New: what's more relative than all works do not, is that the system does not recognize the potential error.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your request here in the Microsoft Community.

This would have occurred because of hardware or software related issues. I would like to know some information about this problem so that we can help you further.

1 have you checked the device status in Device Manager?

2 did you changes to computer settings prior to this problem?

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it works for you.

    Method 1:

Run the hardware and devices Troubleshooter and check if that helps. It is an automatic convenience store to help you solve common problems with equipment and other devices.

Follow the steps to run the Troubleshooter:

    1. Press Windows + Q on your keyboard to display the bar of charms.
    2. Troubleshooting type, and then click Troubleshooting under settings.
    3. Now, type Hardware Troubleshooter in the option Search .
    4. Click on the convenience store equipment and devices and follow the instructions to run the troubleshooter.

    Method 2:

Try installing the latest drivers, including drivers for the chipset and check if the problem persists. This is to check if the problem is caused due to any driver related issues or not.

See the following Microsoft Help article to download and install the drivers.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/all-drivers

Note: the steps for Windows 8.1 also applies to Windows 8.

Please reply with the status of the issue so that we can better help you.
