Satellite L550 - SMART failure HARD disk reports early - what to do?

Toshiba Satellite L550-113

At startup, I get a fault HARD drive reporting mini-message soon, and I am asked to by pressing F1 before will continue to Windows (Vista 32 bit).

The message of the Toshiba HDD application alert is as follows:

Disk0
Your HARD drive is SMART failure to predict who monitors the HARD drive, operating status. Your HARD drive is facing a problem and CHIP controlling the software predicts that the HARD drive will fail. Toshiba strongly recommends that you create a backup for the data on your HARD drive. Contact an authorized service provider to check your drive and buy a new drive for replacement if necessary.

I ordered a new HARD drive to replace the failed HDD (can't be bothered p * ssing all with the support of the RMA and tech).

However, is it possible to repair the old HDD once it's been deleted? If I have the reformat, it would do anything, or is it more serious than that?

Hello

What should do? Back up all your data as soon as possible. You have created recovery DVD?
If this is not the case, do. When you redeem your laptop HARD drive, you can use this recovery disc to install the operating system and have once again the factory settings.

What is with guarantee s notebook? I mean that if the warranty is still valid, you can request service Toshiba to replace HARD drive.

    Hello

I'm sorry to say, but I fear that your HARD drive will die soon. You must, as soon as possible, back up all important data and get the new HARD drive. The replacement is not so complicated and you can do it alone.

If you need assistance please let us know. There are a lot of people on this forum with a lot of experience and. You're not alone ;)!

Remove the disc, ride in a 2.5 external hard drive enclosure "and attach it to a system that works by USB.  You may still be able to read all or part of your data.  If you can't, you must then decide if the professional data recovery worth the cost - it can work in a few thousand dollars, however.

When you replace the disk, make sure you buy an external hard drive backup so that you are not faced with this situation potentially very painful in the future.

  • Satellite C660 - Diagnosis indicates a failure hard disk

Run the diagnostics on my two day old - Satellite C660 shows a failure on the hard drive. Check disk hard Windows ran without failure.

Can I assume that it is a false indication by diagnosis of Toshiba? The thread on this topic is not conclusive on this issue.

    Thank you Fred

    Hi frredi,

Diagnostic tool what you mean? It's the Toshiba Diagnostics tool that shows an error on the HARD disk?

If Yes, you must contact the seller of the laptop and ask for replacement laptop. Bad HARD drive sector you can still get but he s not recommendable to save important data in this regard.

So just give shop and take a new one. :)

  • Satellite A-P70-11V - HARD disk protection works without accelerometer?

    Hi all

    I'm new here.
I did another post. In short, I'm expert enough in Toshiba Satellite laptops, but my new, Satellite P70-A-11V, a portable high professional range, had some problems. It came with Windows 8, which I upgraded to 8.1. Unfortunately, the degraded system so bad that all pendrives made plant. I have connected my Toshiba camcorder, and it also crashed the laptop.

The search indexing was not working outside the C: drive. The pointer of an optical mouse has started to freeze for seconds on the screen.
This last I believe was due to the low power USB ports.

So, I really had no choice after 2 restorations system total and installed Windows 7 Enterprise x 64 SP1. Operating system almost seems ok, but I still have problems, and one of them is that but I'm trying to install the accelerometer utilities, there is no driver.

I tried that Windows 8 x 64, but just, it does not appear on the list of services.

I found that the utility of the HARD disk protection was also arrested, I searched this forum and someone said that the Intel Rapid Storage technology must be uninstalled. I did and my HDD is running... but I don't know if it's effective!

I remember with the 8.1 Windows, the utility always shown a message on the upper right: Vibration is detected, the drive is temporarily closed, etc..

She has been associated with some high tone sound indicating that the drive has been effectively stopped. Now I can shake it off the laptop, but no message appears, there is no sound.

I checked all the boxes on the interface of protection of HARD drive to indicate if there are vibrations, but so far nothing. The drive protection is in place and running, but in the absence of use of the accelerometer, the protection of disk HARD just don't know when to act.

Am I wrong? Can Toshiba fix this?

    All responses are greatly appreciated.

    Hello

Toshiba drivers and tools available to win 8 or 8.1 to win are not entirely comparable with Toshiba available for Win 7 OS software.
Some drivers and tools that are available to win 8 don t exist for the Win 7 system.

For example; commercial accelerometer or HDD Protection Utility released in particular to win 8 / Win system 8.1 and are not available for Win 7.

But for Win 7, you can find the Toshiba VAP (value added package) and this package installs a range of important services that are an essential component of the Windows system and this PPV will perform the other original programming TOSHIBA works correctly.

Therefore, you must install the VAP as Toshiba's first tool to ensure that other software such as HDD/SSD Alert Utility or PC Health Monitor

  • Satellite L50-A-19N - HARD disk controller is not compatible SATA 3

    Hello.

    I have a model of L50-a-19n satellite.
The hard drive it is HGST Travelstar 5 K 1000 750 GB, SATA 6 Gbps (HTS541075A9E680/0J22412).

On Web site of the manufacturer and as Aida64 diagnostic software the hard drive is named SATA-III 600 MB/s.

But when I run the Crystaldiskinfo software or simillar, it is said that the taken and current transfer mode supported SATA/300.
    Why is it like that?

Is this some sort of software limmitation?
In the Bios, I turned on the performance mode.

HARD drive supports SATA 6 Gbit/s, but the portable controller is probably limited to SATA II (3 Gb/s)

If the HARD disk controller does not support SATA III, HARD drive performance will be limited.

  • Satellite 300CDT: number of HARD disk - partitions show only 4 GB

I have an old Satellite 300CDT, I can't support it appears not yet listed on the Toshiba site.
I have added a new hard drive and bought a 40 GB drive, but it will only show 4 GB per partition.
I want 2 partitions that I have and in fdisk I said 50% for each but it only shows 4GB each even though it says support big readers.
    I'm running Windows Me.
Is it possible for an old laptop of this type to display the size of the hard drive.

    Thank you

    Hello

Did you use the FAT32 or NTFS?
I use partition Magic 8 to do and to manage the partitions on the HARD disk.
In my opinion, you should try this program. I think that using the PM8 you will get the total size of the HARD drive.

  • Satellite M40X-189 - replace HARD disk - what size should I go to?

Hi, I have a SATELLITE M40X-189, I would like to replace the hard drive and would like if possible some recommendations!
I know I need an ide/pata and I currently have a hard disk of 40 GB hitachi 5400 rpm installed. The memory is just what came installed originally, (512 MB, no upgrade).

So what size I can up to?
I have a lot of music/photos and video to change so must also size decent 80 GB would be enough?
I really don't use it for anything other than that, and also the navigation on the internet. Although I often have a few programs running at the same time which causes problems... freeze, (in particular I tunes) and generally slow running.

I'm confident on the physical replacement, and I know how to clone my old drive hard etc, but just need some info about the size and speed and if possible
a recommendation of the manufacturer. Just worried about incompatibility really issues.

Also, if you think I should install more memory, which size and make and model may recommend.

    Thank you in advance!

    Denise.

    Hi mate

First he must know that this question have been posted a lot of time in the forum.
If you want to use the search option, then you will find this thread for example:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=68287

Is the M40X series supports the IDE controller and I think that you need a 2.5 IDE HDD.
The old ide controllers are limited to 128 GB with 28-bit LBA
However, you can take an 80 GB or 120 GB HARD drive and it should work fine

  • Satellite 2410-404: which HARD disks are supported

    Hello

one of our phones, to a new hard drive. What toshiba product are compatible to our Toshiba Satellite 2410 404?

    concerning
    Jan Wernecke

The problem is that Toshiba provides official information on compatible HARD disk HARD disk sizes.
But I've studied a bit in the internet and the following four sizes of hard drives must be supported:
20 GB; 30 GB; 40 and possibly the 60 GB.

    Perhaps more info:
Must HARD disk supports the improved IDE ""(ATA-5) EIDE interface ".

  • Satellite A 40, upgrade hard disk

Hi, I have a laptop Toshiba A 40 with a DVD-R/RW drive. My desktop pc has two hard disks with an 80 and a 120 GB.
What I'm wondering is can I connect hard drives in Notepad using a specially designed adapter or any other kit so that I can transfer the data stored in them in a DVD-R?
    Thank you.

If you remove the disks, you can put them in a case that connects via USB to your laptop.
Or... you could just share your discs on the network.

  • If I use the SSD to initiate the operating system and a hard disk of data what exactly will be the benefit of this end?

    Hello

I would like to know if I use the SSD drive for the operating system boot and a hard drive for data. What will be the benefit of this effect,

I know that SSDS starts much more quickly and reads and writes data faster.

When I use the SSD for OS then my only wil advantage so I have faster from the OS, not more than

but the reading and writing data wil either by the hard drive so I wil not use all the benefits of the SSD, data wil be read and written by hard drive!

    Am I right or wrong?

    Johan

SSD benefits for most of the time of loading, and it is for all software. If you install Windows on a SSD and return to a HARD drive after a few weeks you will certainly appreciate the value of an SSD, just for the

    only the loading.

While startup in Windows is the most obvious, the Windows advantage is usually a bit snappier

    on an SSD.

An SSD expected to also help in many programs such as Photoshop, video editing, the processing speeds

or CAD, due to data being created during the writing of these programs.

I think the reads and writes more visible with large files.

All my programs are on the SSD, but my games are on the HARD disk.

Games to load a large number of data and will load faster on an SSD, but it's still a few seconds.

and as games use a lot of Go, it is not really profitable to keep (150 +) on an SSD.

-J' I keep most of my data, except the music (to save space) in my user folder, but haven't really

noticed a difference in speed when opening a data file, such as a Word, PDF, images, or similar

'small' files from the HARD drive.
-I wouldn't take an SSD less 120 GB. Try to run Windows on a 60GB translate too

stuffing autour with management of data between the SSD and HDD. In particular, as it should be

keep 20% an SSD free to allow the two "garbage collection" and deliver a load of

cells of extra memory to extend the life of the DSS (data gets moved to empty cells when the cells die).

There is also a noticeable difference between the speeds of SATA2 and SATA 3 controller, so if your motherboard uses the SATA2 more the advantage of an SSD is not as great as with SATA3.

In addition, the new SATA3 SSD controllers are faster than those of two years ago.

SSD is a big enough topic. There are many items in the wild that may be useful.
