Satellite L770D-10J wouldn't boot - Disk Read Error

Hello

My laptop cannot start and it gives me the Error Message:
Error reading a disc like the case, press ctrl + alt + delete.

I did it a couple of times and I tried to solve this problem because I have no Win7 DVD to boot from, I tried to reset the BIOS to its standard options and now he wants a password for me.

I was not even enter a so I won't know it.
After 3 attempts the system stops and I have to restart my computer.

Now, I have an external hard drive but I can't try to boot from it because my laptop wants that password.

To enter the BIOS or menu I also need this password.
I really need help, if you know anything please contact me with 'NOTEBOOKS TOSHIBA computers SUPPORT. My warranty ran out already.

Sorry for the bad English is not my mother tongue.
Thank you for helping me.

I assume you mean the BIOS password.

This BIOS password can be deleted by authorized service provider available in your country.
I have no idea why a BIOS password is displayed if you have not defined it in the past, but it is impossible to delete this unknown password by common laptop user. The BIOS password is a very important security element, and only authorized individuals are able to remove it.

Error reading the disk:
I'm not quite sure what disc do you mean exactly, but where the installed system cannot start, I think that the HARD drive is faulty and must be replaced. After this replacement, you will need to reinstall the system. The best way to install the system is using the Toshiba Recovery disk because all drivers and tools Toshiba would be installed with the Windows System.

    I'm stuck please help!

    Hello!

If you enter the product recovery disc, Windows will be relocated and will be erasing all data on the HARD drive.

I think that your HARD drive is damaged. You can check this with the Drive Fitness Test. Here you can download:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

By the way: you can save the data on the HARD drive, when you put it in a box external HARD disk. Then you can save the data on another PC, if the HARD drive is ok and have no errors.

  • Satellite L305D-S593 - disk read error

My Toshiba Satellite L305D-S593 suddenly stopped. At first I thought he had a little more heated or something, but when I tried to turn back on it gave me a message saying disk-read error press ctrl alt del to restart. I did several times in the same direction. While I tried to reinstall windows, I got lucky if she showed to the installation screen once it did, I followed the instructions for installation clean (I had to do it once before, but for different reasons).

Once he brought me to the menu had to select a partition to install on I said to do it on the main HDD after some loading and that time, he said that it was impossible to complete the formatting required. So I Redid the process and I noticed the music said it had 288 GB of available memory, but before that, I had only about 40. To remedy this, I clicked on the format button and it says that it cannot complete the action because the disk is about to fail.

PS My processor is 64-bit AMD Turion dual core mobile, with 4 GB of RAM

    Hey,.

In my opinion, it has something to do with the HARD drive itself, I guess that it s a bad sector so Windows Setup can format t HARD drive properly. I mean before you tried to reinstall Windows, the system could not start due to a disc read error. This means that the files on the HARD disk are confused because of bad sectors

You can install Windows Toshiba Recovery disk?

If it doesn t work too, I'll try to replace the HARD drive. Usually, it is not complicated and can be done in 5 minutes.
In addition, you can check the HARD disk for errors with diagnostic tools special as Drive Fitness Test. Google a bit for such tools, they are freeware, so it s no problem to find. ;)

    Hello

Are you sure that the CD drive is dead?
I have goggled a bit on the net and found some practical information that there may be some HDD malfunction.
Some guys advised to use the command CHKDSK C: /R to solve this problem.

But if it's a cd player error, it should be possible to disable the drive in Device Manager.

    Hello

I suggest you get into the Recovery Console and use the where command prompt to run the chkdsk command. This scan the hard drive for bad sectors and recover any information from reading. To get instructions on how to enter the recovery console in Windows XP:
The KB above also shows how to use the Recovery Console prompt.
    a. Insert the Windows XP startup disk in the floppy drive, or insert the Windows XP CD into the CD drive and restart the computer.
    b. Click to select all the options required to start the computer from the reader, if you are prompted.
    c. when the "Welcome" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
    d. If you have a computer dual-boot or multiboot, select the installation that you must Access from the Recovery Console.
    e. When you are prompted, type the administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
    f. type in the following command and press ENTER:
    Chkdsk /r
    g. once the command is executed type "exit" (without the quotes) to exit the command prompt and check if the problem is resolved.

  • Equium A200-1VO - "a disk read error has occurred."

    Hello

I had my Equium A200-1VO since December 2007 and has never really had any problems with it atall.

However, last night after a Windows Vista update and restart, my laptop won't start upward. I get a black screen announcing:

"A disk read error has occurred.

Please press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart»

I've had no BSOD, and no other suggestion that something was wrong, everything worked perfectly. I checked the HARD drive to see if it had come off his link and reinserted it. But I get the same message.

I am presented with the only possibility to use the recovery disk, but this means wiping everything out there and start again. I'd rather try to recover my documents before taking radical measures, if it is possible atall.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be very appreciate.

    Thank you very much

    Hello

In my view, the error message says a lot: theoretically, your HARD drive may be defective and must be replaced but before that I would test using fitness to drive or another program. Just use Google to find such programs.

Maybe something was tangled up in your Windows installation. About reinstalling Windows?

You didn't back up your data to a second drive? I m wondering about this, because the backup should always be made.
However, if you use an external HARD drive box you can save it on another computer.

    Good luck! :)

Reading efforts and errors you received on your other thread it seems pretty obvious that your hard drive is bad. It could be as serious as a bad on the motherboard controller, but usually, it's only the hard drive.

A hard drive can be replaced for about $40 and takes about 15 minutes to change. EX HERE

  • Satellite P10-304 Disk Read Error

    Hi people...

I am trying to upgrade my computer portable HARD drive. I use an external enclosure and cloning software to clone the Toshiba HDD to a WD Scorpio drive more.

The clone worked as far as I can tell and I can actually it boot via USB of the outer shell, but when I install in the mobile I have a disc read error. The speaker came with another Hitachi drive I tried the same result. I tried using the recovery disk of the product with the new drive but it wouldn't boot either, I tried the CD with the old drive so I know it works.

Any suggestions as to what could go wrong for me here?

    Thank you!

Will be the new HARD disk that is recognized by the BIOS?

How much disk space a new HARD drive? Maybe the new HARD drive is great for this laptop and it could be interesting also how much disk space has the old HDD.

In addition, I would like to make a BIOS update.

  • Satellite U400-10j - how to boot from a USB flash drive?

    Hello

    I have a Toshiba Satellite U400-10j.

I have Ubuntu on my USB flash drive, now I want to boot from it.

I can't find the option in the BIOS to boot from the Usb flash drive.

Second, I noticed that the phone also has an internal memory card reader.
I could load Ubuntu top then to start the memory stick as well?

Your help will be very appreciated.
    Thank you.

I think that it s not able to boot from a USB key on this laptop.
The best way is to use a CD. There, you can start on this notebook and all other laptops.
In the Internet there are many versions of CD of Ubuntu and other Linux systems.

And as said Feliks, it s not able to boot from an SD card because it is not in the BIOS.

    Hello
I'm trying to reinstall Win 98SE on a 1640CDT of friends old Satellite that is to come with a lot of errors when loading. I've got two product recovery CD Toshiba but not the product recovery startup disk that will contain all the batch files to load the cd in my opinion. I can create a workable Win98SE boot disk, but as it lacks the batch files to do anything with the CD it is not very useful. Any ideas where I could get Boot Recovery Disk of Tosh or other options to load the system back from the recovery cd?

    Hello

My laptop froze this morning and so I stopped it when restarting it however, I received the message "No boot device - insert boot disk and press any key", what it means?

I didn't not get discs with the laptop, or have I made the recovery discs. The instruction manual says to press f8 when I restart and go to "menu of advanced start", but it doesn't matter. Where should I go from here, is there a program I can download that would have this disc? All my work on the computer will be lost?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hello

He looks at the HARD drive died and so the laptop can not boot from the HARD drive but request disk bootable.
But to be sure, you need to access the BIOS (press F2) and check if the HARD drive is recognized in the BIOS.
If it s not recognized, then you need a new HARD drive.

The recovery disc can be ordered here:
