Satellite M100 - reinstall XP caused by viruses

I have a Toshiba laptop purchased in Australia. I have a Satellite M100 recovery disk. I would like to uninstall Windows XP, I had problems with the virus and would feel safer reinstalling everything on my laptop. Is it simple?

Someone tried to talk me through it and she failed in the first step, so I don't know if it was the right way to go in this regard. Any help would be appreciated as I have had problems with my laptop for so long!

Hello

Reinstalling Windows with the recovery disc is a fairly easy procedure, just put in the Bios to boot from the Cd/Dvd as the 1st unit and insert a disc. In addition, should make a backup of necessary things.

  • Screen does not light after the start, but after standby on Satellite M100

    Hello
    I have some experience with computers and laptops, but this problem exhausted all of my knowledge.
    My girlfriend has a Toshiba Satellite M100, PSMA1E. He currently works on Windows XP, SP3.
    The laptop has always had problems closing/stand bye. He would stand bye and the screen would not. She would usually be manually turn off (holding the power button) and restart.

    Same thing happened last week, but with me. I turned off the power button but when I turned it on the screen was completely black. After a few attempts, I realized that everything worked; I could hear the usual audio files and XP Boot, but there was no way I could get the job of the screen.

    The strangest thing is that the CMOS/BIOS, one with the Toshiba logo settings screen, also does not appear. If it's an OS problem, I thought that I would be able to access the BIOS at least, but it does not work. FN + F5 does not work.

    Then, strange yet something happened. I was turning it on and off with keyboard shortcuts and I realized that if I put on stand bye using shortcuts and then go back on the screen turns on perfectly well (there is a cause of adjustment resolution icons are irrelevant, but it works perfectly fine).

    From that on I tried everything I know. Update the BIOS, all Windows XP updates, all Toshiba QuickFix, cleaning the registry with different tools, uninstall and reinstall the video driver (ATI Radeon X 1400) utility, shortcuts keyboard, power saver, tools hardware Toshiba, looking to start up programs, services, everything I could possibly think off.

    What intrigues me is that the Toshiba start screen will not be displayed. I can't access the BIOS, but I tried to restore the standard values of the BIOS with Toshiba hardware tools. It did not work. I don't even know if reinstalling XP will work because whenever I turn it on it is all black and I have to make the stand bye / Tower on Tower.

    When I have it plugged into an external monitor, I could see all starting the process (initial screen of the BIOS and Windows). I then tried to access the video driver display configuration but it would show only the external monitor. It would only detect the laptop screen after a stand bye / turn back on, and then it worked perfectly: the screen two screens simultaneously, extended, everything. Ah, changing BIOS selection automatic the LCD + external monitor does not work.

    I am really puzzled here and I can't understand it. I really don't think it's a hardware problem, because the screen works 100% after the stand bye. I guess that XP is do something during the closing down that completely 'stops' my screen, even after starting, and then I can only turn it on with the thing stand bye.

    Any help would be really appreciated!

    Best,

    Hi guys

    I had a similar problem on a series of Satellite A200 and I could solve works to update the BIOS and update the graphics driver.
    In addition, you must make sure that all available MS fixes and patches have been installed.

    Unfortunately, but that's all I can suggest. If the problem persists and you would not be able to solve update components then an ASP needs to check.

    Good luck

  • Satellite M100-221: Solution Possible BSOD / sound + mouse problem

    Hi all!

    Recently my Satellite M100-221 started crashing and freezing, so I reinstalled Windows XP.
    However, some problems are still recurring.
    First, before posting that, I browsed all the forum and found a few questions from people who are experiencing a BSOD (blue screen).

    I solved this problem by removing HWSetup programe of PC (because, as he wrote on the blue screen, its driver was causing a problem).
    All who have this problem should consider all the software Toshiba, because maybe this is the reason.

    However, I have 2 questions.
    First of all, which is my mouse (and touchpad too) just occasionally freezes for a second.
    I tried different mouse - but it's the same thing. (It may not be the connected with the performance of the CPU, because before the re - install XP, I didn't have the problem).

    And secondly is connected with sound - noise from time to time (whether it be the music play or simply 'click' sound effect) freezes just - which makes the periodical "trtrtrttrtr" - like sound))) that the two problems are so boring - because you just can't help the note!

    I've got drivers provided by Toshiba - maybe the problem is with them?
    So should what drivers I expect?

    Please, someone, help!

    I solved the problems and it took almost two days to determine what the problem is.
    Well, I read a lot of discussion on the failures of sounds, mouse freeze and so on. But there is always only one advice: updating drivers, BIOS, etc, etc. After two days, I have updated all the drivers on my laptop, updated the BIOS and fact repeatedly - but all that was * _completely useless_ *.
    I've got Intel Centrino Duo processor - so I started to experiment with a single core enabled - play music and watch videos and watch to the works of the processor. According to the process manager, got processor loaded at 50-60% of its power every 2-4 dry. And it turns out to be Hotkey.exe! Toshiba utility! This means that software of Toshiba's just unnecessary powerful processors, because this software is completely unprofessional. I have nothing against Toshiba - laptops are one of the best, but they should at least try their own software before distributing it with their PC.
    So I guess some problems with your laptop, mates, can be solved by turning off unnecessary all software and utilities Toshiba - just them clear in the automatic boot menu.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite M100 - recovery disc reboot after loading ramdisk image

    Hello world

    I have a Satellite M100 (bought mid-2006), 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HDD, Intel CPU T2050.

    I decided to have a cleaning and use the restore disc to return the laptop to factory settings, and then reinstall only what I really wanted.
    I had this done yesterday, I had forgotten something, then he ran again about 4 hours later.
    The first time that the restore worked, now it reboots once the progress bar reaches full when he says "Loading RAMDISK Image".
    After the progress bar reaches full, the mouse pointer appears for a few seconds then restart the computer.

    Nothing has changed with the hardware or BIOS, and what is on the HD should not have any effect because I am booting from the DVD.
    Can someone please help? I am at a loss to explain what happened in this interval of 4 hours.

    Thank you

    Hello!

    I put t know which causes the problem too because I m not an expert, but sometimes I can read in the forum, you must delete all partitions before using the recovery disk.
    You can do this with the Microsoft disk for example. Just boot from it and delete all partitions. After that, restart and try to use the recovery disc.

    I put t know if it helps but you can give us feedback. :)

    Good bye

  • Cannot install driver LAN on Satellite M100-221

    I have reinstalled the OS on my Satellite M100 - 221 PSMA0E.

    HE has already used Windows XP Home Edition, and now I have installed Windows XP Professional SP2. I have an error in my DEVICE MANAGER with ethernet, mass storage controller, SM bus controller controller. But let's for ETHERNET CONTROLLER.
    I have download the real LAN driver on the official website of Toshiba, and whenever I try to install it I get the message "the specified location contains no information about your hardware.
    In the wizard NETWORK UPADATE I have same option to choose the Realtek driver, only Intel and a few others. My network card was working very well on XP Home edition preinstalled. What am I, I guess what to do? Help, please!

    Hello

    I guess you should try drivers intel instead of the realtek because drivers that your computer was shipped with a chipset Intel LAN.
    So, please visit the website of intel (www.intel.com) and download the latest drivers LAN from their homepage.

    It should work and you should soon have a working ethernet connection.

  • Satellite M100-JG2 HotKey and date and time problem

    Hi all

    I'm not very good with computers, and I've had some problems for a while now. My laptop is almost three years, I don't know why I'm writing this after so long but anyway. I think they are called "keys" or "launchkeys", hopeyfully, you know what I mean, but anyway they do no more work. They worked for a while, but they do not work now. I went into the control panel and went into the 'Toshiba' orders and tried to change what does each control, but it still does not work. No one knows how to fix?

    Also, another problem that I had since I first laptop is my date and time are screwed up. If I put my 15:30 time, it works perfectly, until around 16:15, that when he goes back to 15:30 and go all the way up to 16:15 and continues in this cycle until I manually change the time. I had a few friends (no professional) to look at, but can not understand. When I start my laptop I go to settings in the start screen, try to change it was from there, but it keeps going during the cycle. If I click on the time and click on the tab "internet time" and say "update now", it updates, and then only time will work normally, but only until I turn off my laptop. Once I turn it on then next turn, it passes through this new cycle of 45 minutes. If anyone has had this problem or knows how to fix?

    I'm not very good at explaining, but I hope you guys can help! I appreciate it really :) Show!

    The Toshiba Satellite M100. M100-JG2 seems to be a Canadian series laptop. I recommend you to visit the driver Toshiba Canada page and to download and reinstall the tool called controls, Toshiba HotKey Utility, touch and launch.

    If not, change it and don t forget to save the changes.

  • Satellite M100-221 with Win 7 - issue Fn after PVAT site amenities

    Hello

    I installed windows 7 on my toshiba satellite m100-221, with 5.60 bios, I had problems with installing the chipset drivers which I downloaded from the toshiba Web site.
    Finally I downloaded the drivers from the site to intel. I realized that my Fn keys are in operation, but only Fn + ESC, F1, F5, F6, F7.
    So I tried to install PVAT that contains Flash cards.
    Everything seems to work properly, some Flash cards began, I could use them with the mouse, BUT NONE of the Fn keys worked.

    Now, I'll try to uninstall, reinstall, but without success.
    When I disable flash cards at the start that the Fn keys work, when I start it, it seems that Flash Cards takes controll keys Fn and disable them.

    My laptop is able to vista and I also tried to do the same thing with vista, but with the same result, all Fn are disabled when the cards are running.

    It is important for me to use Fn + F8 to switch to the radio wireless and Fn + F4 to Hibernate.

    You have ideas or experience how to fix?

    Thanks for help.

    > So I tried to install PVAT that contains Flash cards

    Win 7 needs the VAP (additional package) and you need to install the additional Flash Card Support utility!
    Win 7 Vientiane does not contain Flash cards! You must install separately.

    Take a look on the Satellite L500 driver area.
    You'll find the VAP and Flash Card Utility for Win7

    I recommend reinstall these two tools again

  • Install Windows 7 on the Satellite M100

    I have the Satellite M100-JG2 (PSMA0C-JG200E). I would like to install Windows 7. The Toshiba does not list the compatible M100. The Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor points on certain issues, but I don't know how it's easy to overcome them.

    I read on another forum that the touchpad does not work after the upgrade, but this was solved by installing a Synaptics driver. Otherwise, I see people announced the upgrade succeeded with no other info. Can someone tell me if they have been successful or not to undertake this upgrade, all the problems that they led in to and how they have solved their?

    The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor provides the following information (I remove personal programs):
    All the systems pass (I have only 1 GB of RAM if, so do not know if it is too little, even if it is passed)
    Pass all devices

    Program questions:
    TOSHIBA ConfigFree version 5.90.05 (don't know if I still need this)

    TOSHIBA Alps Pointing - device Driver version 6.0.2.186 (is this touchpad)
    Version client and Host Security Platform 104.0.14.2

  • Satellite M100: How can I use the S-VHS output

    Hello
    I have a Satellite M100. A second screen display will be only activated if I already plugged an external display to the VGA output.
    What I want is to allow my second screen so I can use my cable S-VHS on the TV.
    I wonder that my problem is caused by the Mobile Intel 945 GM video card?

    It's my third Toshiba and I never had this kind of problem before.
    So if my problem how do I use my S-VHS output?

    Thanks in advance
    M.

    Hello

    I guess you want to use the TV and not a second external monitor.
    You can connect the TV to the s-video port.
    Then, you pass the output device by using the FN + F5 key combination.
    Here you have to choose the TV and not the external display.

  • Discussion of 'Windows 7' on Satellite M100-222 - complete

    Good day everyone! This post on 'Windows 7' on 'Toshiba' 'Satellite' M100-222.

    Perhaps, this method (and as some drivers & utilities) will be to apply successfully for other models M100 "Satellites". Because some very similar models on the technical level. For example, 'Satellite' M100-221 & ect. I want to share & discuss. Because reliable information and a practical guide on this subject on the Internet is virtually absent... or little information is not completely. I am having some problems. With these questions, I want to share. Perhaps, we will find a correct solution together. Please, join... Then...

    First of all, the BIOS update! This is necessary for 'Windows 7' If your BIOS version 3.00 update - Toshiba Satellite M100 BIOS update v5.60;

    Before install "Windows 7"... I updated my BIOS (v3.00) to v5.60 - Toshiba Satellite M100 BIOS update v5.60
    I did it by 'Windows' XP Pro x 32... Executable file simply run it and follow the steps.

    Note:
    There is two years that I posted the question in the present case (forums.computers.toshiba - Europe.com) on my CCF. Clock in the BIOS (I forgot the BIOS version. Original BIOS, I bought my laptop & no has not updated the BIOS then) was frozen. Sometimes the time indicators worked, sometimes not. Very little time. But indicators stood also hours. Time passing in the system. In the frozen BIOS - 13:13:13, for example. Can I update the BIOS - v3.00, I hope my CCF works again. Nothing... Two years, I worked with frozen CCF. Every day I corrected time in the BIOS manually. Seconds are frozen... Sometimes the time work... But really the time in the BIOS has been frozen. I know this isn't the RTC battery problem. Physycally battery is normal. I knew that it is a BIOS problem. Because tests revealed it - physycally battery is normal. BIOS no error message. As the problem of the RTC... Some gave advice on the forum, and I'm not a beginner... Nothing... The BIOS time is frozen...

    Thinking about upgrading the BIOS to... 'Toshiba' added value package v1.2.40 (Win7 x 32)... When installing I get the error message - 0x8146045B
    Tried to install different versions of "Toshiba" extra package. Same error... Guessed the BIOS update! Among the drivers & utilities in site 'Toshiba' BIOS for 'Windows 7 ' offer for Satellite M100 (PSMA1E) v3.00. But BIOS v5.60 shown for 'Windows' "Vista". Same platform, same core with 'Windows 7' (theoretically)... Basic logical approach! I downloaded & updated BIOS - v5.60! Great! BIOS has been updated... Perhaps, "Toshiba" value added package will install properly. I hope. I wait a few seconds after the system shuts down. I turn on my laptop & press F2 - looked at BIOS... Incredible... First of all, I've seen - seconds in my clock BIOS runs again! Each of us felt a sense of joy! But after two years... The BIOS time worked again! So, it's amazing! But don't be naïve. Certainly, there is a scientific explanation. I mean the BIOS update can help solve similar problems. But everything has to be studied in detail. After BIOS update, I installed "Toshiba" value package v1.2.40 (Win7 x 32)

    Then I found & download drivers & utilities. I checked with compatibility in "Windows 7". For two 'Windows 7' - x 32 & x 64 platforms... I'll find some utilities - Touch "Toshiba" & launch, its virtual, DVD - RAM software "Toshiba", silent acoustics, also central control Catalyst "ATI"... Here's a question open for me. But no problem, it's easy willingness...

    Then I install "Windows 7" x 64 ultimate (I managed to install "Windows 7" x 32 & drivers, before utilities).

    Always install the following drivers:

    Intel Chipset device software v9.2.0.1021 (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    ATI Mobility Radeon X 1400 driver (Win7 x 32) or for (x 64 Win7) - requirement (download it on - http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx & extract to the folder using any archivators.) Then update the VGA Standard of this folder drivers);

    Realtek High Definition Audio Codecs vR2.57 (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    ALPS Electric pointing device driver v7.x5.303.117 (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    Intel (r) PROSetWireless drivers v13.4.0.139 (Win7 x 32) or (x 64 Win7) - requirement;

    Texas Instruments integrated flash media controller driver v2.0.0.8 (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    Toshiba Bluetooth stack v8.00.02 (Win7 x 32) or (x 64 Win7) - requirement;

    Toshiba registry patch for storage config v1.0 (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    Toshiba registry patch for Win7 devices & Printers v1.2 (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    Toshiba SD utilities v1.8.1.8 (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    Toshiba Software modem v2.2.97 (SM2297ALD05) (Win7 x 32) or Toshiba Software modem v2.2.97 (SM2297ALS05) (Win7 x 64) - requirement;

    Toshiba v1.0.25.5C utility driver support (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    Toshiba value added package v1.2.40 (Win7 x 32) or (x 64 Win7) - requirement;

    Of Toshiba Flash cards support utility v1.63.0.4C (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    V4.01.00 Toshiba Assist (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    Toshiba TEMPRO v3.3.4 (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    V8.0.23 TOSHIBA ConfigFree (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    Intel (r) PROSetWireless software (Win7 x 32) or (x 64 Win7) - requirement;

    Toshiba Software modem region Select utility v2.3.0.13 (Win 7 x 32 & x64);)

    Toshiba supervisor password utility v3.0.1.0 (Win7 x 32 & x64);)

    Toshiba Hardware setup utility v1.63.0.32C (Win7 x 32 & x 64).

    During system reboot do the install & updates!

    And please, I beg you, help for the next:

    Everything worked fine! But yesterday I had the installation of material of "Toshiba" and receive the runtime error message! I know that "Toshiba" HW should be compatibility with BIOS! Please tell, anyone know what version "Toshiba" HW compatibility with "Toshiba" 'Satellite' M100-222? Or 'Satellite' model M100?

    And... problems beetwen Toshiba value added utility support package & Toshiba Flash cards! Flash cards do not work... I uninstall both and reinstall again... Same situation... A few days ago worked well... But not now... I don't remember, maybe change the configurations in the settings of Flash cards... Do not remember... Help to solve these problems. It is very important!

    For example, I looked for laptop Satellite A500 - Toshiba value added package v1.2.26.64 (Win7 x 64) & complect Toshiba Flash cards support utility (Win x 64) v1.63.0.4C! Perhaps, Toshiba value added package v1.2.40 (Win7 x 64) incompatibility with Toshiba Flash cards support utility v1.63.0.4C (Win x 64)? Versions, I think that...

    Does anyone has any information about these utilities for platform "Windows 7":

    "Toshiba" Touch & launch;
    'Toshiba' virtual sound;
    DVD - RAM software;
    Acoustic silencer.

    and "ATI" Catalyst control center... For the full control "ATI" Mobility Radeon X 1400 graphics adapter "Windows 7". I can only update the graphics card drivers. But do not know which version is the compatibility with the graphics card "ATI" Mobility Radeon X 1400 "Windows 7".

    Thank you! I have very little time... Lots to do! I will try to fill the drivers on sharing files or torrent. But for this I need to collect all the drivers and utilities. I have to check. Week of rest, I set to work and share with you what I could.

    Thanks again!

    Hello Gabriel

    You wrote a very interesting announcement, but, as you can see, almost ten days later there is no one comment. From time to time I m here in this forum and I have noticed that people are not interested to read these stories.
    Problem is that you gave a lot of information and who should write the serious answer must create real concept how to proceed and has spent a lot of time for the full discussion.

    I put also t have time for an in-depth analysis, but what I can say is follow:
    If you want to install more recent OS on the old model of laptop as a first step, you should check if your model (your is PSMA1E) is supported for the operating system you want to install. I can see your model is not supported for 64-bit OS, just for 32 bit Win7.

    So what to do?
    You must have a list of all hardware components and try to install the drivers available for other models of laptops. Some 64 bit Vista drivers can be used on Win7. HwSetup designed for 64-bit Vista should work fine on your Win7 installation. I did several times in the past, and each time it worked fine.

    Toshiba touch & maybe I get m wrong but this old tools is known to me for WXP only. I've never seen in Vista or Win7.
    Virtual sound the same as for T & l. it was designed for Windows XP Home edition only.
    Two others can be also for WXP only.

    If you don t have such tools for Vista you'll them for Win7 too.
