  I am a (satisfied) owner of a Satellite SM30-604.

  No, there is no such BIOS.
  What you can do is change settings in Toshiba Power Saver for energy savings (I assume you are using Win XP).
  So Toshiba Power Saver you can change the method of control of the CPU to fixed and processing speed of the CPU to the next level.

  After running my M30 5 years without problem, I had a fresh install of windows XP.
  No problem. But now I can't find a few drivers and utlilities. Or those I found does not work.
  is not owrking:
  fn - keys (for brightness and soundvolume etc.)
  -LCD screen saver. My screen fades always if I change powersource.

  The fn keys I really need, since I use my computer laptop a lot with a second screen or projector.
  The control utility of the poweruse on the LCD is pretty handy too. But all I get is a program error.

  I used the cd with the drivers that came with the laptop. But when it does not work I tried a few drivers I found on the toshiba site. But still no luck.

  I thought that I've updated the BIOS, but when I downloaded the file tohsiba and installed maybe I did installed it wrong I should change in the settings or something because the version of the BIOS is good it displays the latest version: TOSHIBA V4.80
  But on the SMBIOS version it shows the oldest a ver 2.5, please someone can tell me or show me how to upgrade that to?

  I put t know if this will help but you can back up all your data and install again recovery image to check if the same problem persists with the factory settings.

Unless your system suffers from a kind of I/O software problem that I wouldn't recommend it. Each BIOS behaves differently from everything and you can upgrade your hardware later. You will probably need to match it with the best available BIOS if that happens and it is important to note that you can not downgrade your BIOS (not easy at least). So keep the BIOS that you have for the moment until you notice some from hardware in the hardware or software drivers update.
