Satellite M30 - after replacing drive DVD 0203: failure IDE #2 appears

Hello

I replaced the DVD unit on my Satellite M30 as it was broken. I installed the same unit (UJ - 820B), but now at startup, I get the error message 0203:Failure IDE #2 with options to continue starting in the operating system or run the Setup program (which does not offer something to solve this problem). The operating system (Windows XP sp2) loads fine, but the DVD unit is not recognized.

Help!

Thank you.

Hi Paul,.

All optical discs are delivered with a parameter of the base (master, slave, or C/salt) interface configured in the firmware. on PC, readers there are usually small switches to activate this setting to change, but unfortunately on readers portable there is not, so it is very important to make sure the new drive is correctly implemented by the manufacturer of the correct specification for your laptop.

If you got the new drive to an ASP then you will need to confirm with them that the new drive is set correctly.

From my experience, most third-party resellers don't advertise what settings their readers that makes get a suitable replacement that is very difficult.

Kind regards

    Hello

As far as I know that this message can not be eliminated and it happens every time if you want to use the drive is not compatible. Always is it that all readers may not work with all models of laptops.

In this case, fundamental problem is the pin assignment. It is not the same in all players.

    Hello Sammer

Unfortunately the recovery media is created to be used as internal drive only. I put t think you will be able to use it with an external device. On the restore CD there is a ghost image and it is not easy to fix it for use with an external device.

  • Satellite M30 and new driver nVidia - after the awakening of the screen stays off

I have Toshiba Satellite M30. Recently, I installed the new nVidia 9.1.3.1 driver (summer 2006) and after that, I started to encounter problems with wakes my notebook of booth mode and a problem with the power of the monitor.

If computer sleeps or its monitor is turned off and I try to make it work again it hangs with a black screen (although I can see slightly backlight) and doesn't react to anything except the hard reset. What should I do? Going back to the old nVidia Driver?

Windows XP Pro SP2 + all updates update MS. nVidia FX Go5200 video card

    Hello

If you use the drivers directly from nVidia it can cause problems, because they are not designed for laptops. The downloadable driver of Toshiba for this model is the 46,44 version. If you want a newer driver, you can watch the new laptops with nVidia card. Or you can search the Internet, maybe you'll find a driver updated for notebooks somewhere.

  • M30 - 107 - replace the DVD - RW drive?

I replace the DVD - RW drive in my laptop. I was wondering if someone could tell me the steps that would be involved in it, or else where I might be able to find this information.

    Thank you!

    Hi Philippe,.

Feliks is altogether correct with his comments about your request. Because the device is "fixed" in your notebook will invalidate you your warranty if you replace yourself.

However, as with most laptops, CD/RW can be removed if you really want to. It is normally split into place and then fixed by one or two screws. For example, my A30 is secired by a single accessible screw from the base of the laptop. I don't know about the model M30 you need so you will need to check where it is attached.

Once the screws are released, the unit can be slipped out of its slot.

You should then be able to find the label on the device and this will tell you the serial number and model.

If you are replaceing with a similar device, then you will probably have to remove the plastic frame and cut panels and mounting brackets and adapt them to the new unit.

Replace the unit and the re - fix it with the screws and the work is done then.

You can, of course, replace your device with another (Toshibe notebooks) do use several different, but there is no guarantee that you new unit will work properly without having to install new drivers for it.

  • Satellite M30-604 external usb hdd boot failure

    Hello world

Hard drive problems seem never to end for me.

I have a satellite M30-604. Recently my Hitachi HDD crashed. Now, I am trying to boot from an external hard drive via usb, but I can't.

    (a) I use a ViPower 3.5 "(model VP9258T) enclosure external usb 2.0"
    (b) with a Seagate 200 GB hard drive.
    (c) I used the recovery cd to install windows on the seagate
    (d) the bios (v1.4) seems to support the external device to start
    (e) the internal hdd crashed is deleted (it's internal hard drive space is empty)
    (f) the bios sees the drive and recognizes it as a USB

I think it should work, but when I turn on the computer, after a while, he says: "0201: failure IDE #0"
and gives me the options to run the program installation or start-up.
When I choose boot it gives me the window with "boot in safe mode" screen, 'last known good configuration' etc, but nothing of the work options (it restarts and gives the same again).

    Any ideas please?

    Hello

My research on this subject has led me to believe that it is not possible to boot an operating system of attached USB HDD XP. I read several posts on various usenet groups on this issue, and the consensus of opinion is that it is simply not possible.

Several suppliers of BIOS claim allow a USB HDD to be suitable for start-up purposes but I still have to attend such a machination succeed with XP.

  • Satellite 2450-201: update driver DVD - IDE #1 error

    Hello

I need help to upgrade the dvd for my laptop model Satellite 2450-201 with internal dvd writer.

I have LG and I got this message at startup: error IDE #1. Any suspicion that I speak with Dep. error tech and he said that the problem of compatible driver. I think that good performance with the system.

If I update the bios from 1.3 to 1.5 it will solve this problem?
Or do I need another brand name model to replace the old DVD with DVD - RW?

    Hello

As someone from the tech, adj. suggested that this error message appears because the car is not compatible.
The disc has a bad master/slave setting and so the BIOS can not recognize the drive.
To resolve this problem, you must upgrade the laptop with compatible player.

    I found a compatible Toshiba PA3255U-1DV1 DVD-RAM drive. But this isn't a burner.
I suggest to contact Toshiba service partner in your country to control the compatible player and supported. So you can be sure that you will get a good player.

  • Replacement drive DVD open/close button does not reach (model HP p6110f)

    Hi all

I replaced my DVD drive on my P6110F desktop with a model from Asus. Everything works fine * except * the fact that existing teeth of the open/close Panel button do not reach the real button on the disc itself, me leaving no option but to use a desktop widget to open the CD tray.

I searched on the net and can't seem to find a solution. Any ideas on how to make this work? Thanks for your suggestions.

    Czar

I had the same problem with my P6-2371ea, so what I did adjust the screw until it touches, then tighten them, if it is not an option due to too much of a gap to take the front off the PC and put a match with adhesive tape double sided on the DVD button or something similar it has worked for me in the past

  • How to install Win 8 on Satellite C850 after HARD drive failure?

I have a PC repair business and a customer gave me a portable Satellite C850-1 kN which took a catastrophic hard disk failure (just clicking from the road).

I replaced the hard drive and tried to boot from a DVD 8 Windows, changing the order of startup in the bios, however, it still gives an error message "no boot device."

I see no way to turn off boot UEFI, it appears grayed out in the configuration of the bios.

How can I reinstall Windows on this laptop?

First, you must know that the (CSM/UEFI mode) parameter must be changed if you want to install the system supported UEFI not (Win 7 and higher).
Win 8 and 8.1 Win are UEFI capable systems and you should be able to use the option to UEFI mode.

What about the secure boot option?
Have you found and have you tried to disable this option?

  • Satellite S1410-S102 - replace the DVD drive

    Hello!

On my Satellite S1410-S102 DVD player is not always correctly read DVD. Is it possible to replace it rather than getting an external?

    Hello!

To change the DVD player on this model, it is not so easy. You have to remove many parts and remove several screws so I think it's better use you an external drive.

But if you're familiar with this, you can try it because it is possible to change the disc.

  • Windows XP cannot be installed on Satellite A30 after replacing the hard drive

    Hello
you have a problem with my satellite A30 - hard drive has been corrupted (due to accumulation of dust on the cpu!) and I replaced it with a 100 GB hard drive.
Tried the 'recovery cds', but get an error message 'error #1537 file greater than 4 billion number' and recovery has been abandoned halfway after inserting the third cd. The XP Home operating system does not install completely. Any suggestions?
Thank you very much for your help, has soon

    Hello

already tried the recovery process more then once? If so, the error appears at the place of installation? You said that you have installed a new hard drive but actually you have formatted the hard drive before you perform a full restore? That would be really helpful, sometimes recovery is suspended because the disk formatted or partitioned before luckily.

You should really try. One way would be to use the "UBCD4Win' which is a Windows Live CD with really good tools. Format your hard drive with this CD and retry the recovery. Maybe it works...

    Here´s the link to the CD "UBCD4WIn": www.ubcd4win.com ".

  • System recovery satellite M50 after replacing HARD drive

    Hello

The drive of my laptop Satellite M50 becomes rather clicky and looks like it's on its way. Replacing, it will not present any problems, but I will replace it with a drive of at least double the capacity of origin.

At one point, I had installed a Linux system and when I tried to reinstall my Windows system on a partition that is smaller than the entire recovery cd disk threw a wobbly and refused to proceed as it did not recognize the hardware profile of my portable computer, that the drive was too small.

I expect the same thing to be true once I upgraded the HARD drive.

How can I avoid this problem?

    Thanks in advance

    PK

I would like to clone the old drive if it is an option.

  • Recovery of Satellite A215 after replacing the hard drive

I have a Satellite A215 from issues taken to a store, they said the hard drive was going wrong, they extracted the files it could.
I replaced the concert of 80 hitachi Moose with a new concert of 500 hitachi. When I try to launch the boot disc that came with the computer it says loading windows then goes to a recovery mode and I can't function.

Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you

At this point, it would be interesting to know if the same thing would happen with 100 GB HARD drive. Do you get the such or similar HDD somewhere for testing purposes?

It's that you can't manipulate image recovery and recovery installation procedure. Either it works or not.
To be honest, I'm a little surprised by your upgrade. I can't imagine that a small car can work with stronger engine 10 times. What do you think?

  • CD-ROM error at the start after replacing the DVD drive - Qosmio F20-574

OK, so I have a Toshiba Qosmio F20/574 and I am trying to replace the factory DVD player (TEAC DV-W28E) with a Liteon DS-8A1P (f/w CX12). With or without a DVD Im reader get a CD-ROM error at startup. The only time where what I don't get, is when I start with the factory DVD player.

Here are the things I've tried...
    -Cleared CMOS memory
-Remove the bezel to ensure his grip at bottom
-l' utility EEPROM set the drive to slave.
-tested the portable player in another
-uninstalled the factory dvd player via the Device Manager and tried to boot with the new dvd drive

Here are the things that I found bizarre...
-in the BIOS (BIOS 1.30 ACP) under IO device, it shows the hard drive and cd, but it is not listed by name, his watch only the IRQ of the primary and secondary IDE controller (integrated drive HARD IDE primary (1F0H/IRQ14), CD-ROM (170 H/IRQ15) secondary IDE). This does not change, even if I start without a DVD player.
-There is no update available for this laptop BIOS. It is a Toshiba of the Japan and the Ive tried using Qosmio F20 BIOS 1.40 to another region, but this does not work.
    -I can't find a firmware for the Liteon DS-8A1P (CX17) update

I can't think of anything to try. I really need help! Any ideas?

I'm afraid that you are using the optical disc drive not compatible and there is nothing you can do. Check it please s user guides document for your model of laptop and you will find a list of all compatible ratings.
