  Hi, I bought Satellite M30 861 about 15 months and so far have only tried to burn a CD - no problem. Now I want to try and burn it to a DVD, but it doesn't seem to be recognized (I tried to drag-and - drop and also NERO). I see on the unit it says DVD-R/RW and my Web of Toshiba on-site warranty information, I should be able to burn DVDs (it was a question I asked when buying!). Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

  Hi Marvin,.

  According to the specifications of your laptop, you should be able to burn a DVD-R/RW only. Are you sure that you are using the appropriate holder (r/RW and not + r/rw).

  Also if you use RW media, then they must be formatted before that you can burn on them. (you can use Nero INCD for this).

  I have a Toshiba Satellite M30 and I have problems with my carpet * CD/DVD UJ - 820 s player.

  Have you checked the properties of the graphics card?
  As far as I know on some M30 with a Geforce Go5x00 you can change the mode options full screen in the overlay controls
  Also, check if a screen mode option is available on your DVD player application.
  However, if you find any options then I think that it is not possible to change the size of display in 16:10 format.

• Solution for DVD playback choppy on Satellite Pro A100

  I had this problem twice on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite Pro A100 bought in April 2006): the DVD used to play very well, but now (perhaps after an update of the driver or installation of software, I not sure what causes this) DVD playback is choppy, distorted sound. This occurs throughout all media players on Windows XP (for example, PowerDVD which came with the laptop) or Windows media player.

  I searched the internet far from a solution and finally found how to solve this problem:

  Go to Device Manager, select the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" section, and then select the "second IDE channel", right click and 'uninstall '. (There are two second IDE channels, if you know which then just uninstall both.) Restart Windows XP, Windows XP will automatically reinstall the drivers without the need to download anything. Subsequently the DVD Player reads normally.

  The symptoms of the problem, apart from DVD playback choppy, are the "transfer mode" gets stuck on PIO for a reason, and bring back to DMA with no opportunity to spend. I have no idea what software or driver causes this, or why, but if this is your problem too, if you think that this solves.

  I prefer to use Nero burning utility. In my opinion, he is one of the best burning tools. You should check if you have this problem with other burning software.

• Satellite M30: Replace DVD with additional HARD disk?

  As my Satellite M30-642 does not offer a modular Bay for the installed switches and I have a DVD burner for USB that I can use I think try an experiment: withdrawal of the DVD drive and replace it with an extra HDD/SSD.

  As SSDS are very light, have no moving parts and does not necessarily need screws to be installed and the slot DVD brings the IDE and this could work to power connector. The DSS must be placed inside an old and updated the slimline cd-rom so that the change is not visible and the laptop is safe from dust etc.

  Has anyone tried something like this before? Are there solutions to buy for Sat M30 (2004 vintage)?

  As far as I know the Sat M30 doesn t support the slim select Bay and, therefore you cannot use this adapter instead of the CD/DVD drive.

I installed the same unit (UJ - 820B), but now at startup, I get the error message 0203:Failure IDE #2 with options to continue starting in the operating system or run the Setup program (which does not offer something to solve this problem). The operating system (Windows XP sp2) loads fine, but the DVD unit is not recognized.

  All optical discs are delivered with a parameter of the base (master, slave, or C/salt) interface configured in the firmware. on PC, readers there are usually small switches to activate this setting to change, but unfortunately on readers portable there is not, so it is very important to make sure the new drive is correctly implemented by the manufacturer of the correct specification for your laptop.

  If you got the new drive to an ASP then you will need to confirm with them that the new drive is set correctly.

  From my experience, most third-party resellers don't advertise what settings their readers that makes get a suitable replacement that is very difficult.

• Satellite A660 - 11 m - video DVD playback is quite grainy

  Hello.
  Not so long ago, I bought this Satellite A660 - 11 m and I am extreemly happy with it. Graphics capabilities are perfect for my games.
  One thing however, I noticed that the video playback is very grainy, especially with the DVD. I tried to use the best software like Cyberlink Power DVD DVD playback.
  Is it possible that I can improve the clarity of the video and remove the adhering and afterimage?

  As far as I know, HD-DVD player was offered for equipped laptops of HD-DVD player and your computer laptop doesn t have it so what you can try is Google around a little bit.
