Satellite M30: How disable the BIOS boot password?

Hello

Before my vacation, I activated the startup password in the Bios. Now I want to turn this off, but it does not work. In the Bios, I can go to the Security tab, but I can't change the settings with the F5/F6 key or space. A beep is all I get. Entering on this point, I wonder to set a new password.

Anyone know how to disable the password for a Satellite M30? Please note that I have not forgotten my password, I can always start the machine.

THX,

Werner.

PS On this forum, I don't see any topic title, only the name of the authors. Is always normal? It is very convenient that way, but maybe it is related to my pc.

Hello

I found a step by step explanation to clear a BIOS password:

"Turning on the computer from a State"off"with the ESC key. You are asked "password =". "

Enter the password, and then press ENTER. The unit will display: "the valid password is entered, the system starts up. Check the system. Press key (F1). »

Press the F1 key. This will start the device in the BIOS Setup mode.

Using the arrow keys or tab, move to the password field and select REGISTERED.

Press the SPACE bar, enter the password, and then press ENTER. For now, the password field is transformed into NON REGISTERED. »

Hope this will help you.
Good bye

  • Satellite A40: How update the BIOS because I only have half of the Bios

    Hi guys

I went to the local with my satellite A40 computer store because I only have half of the bios!
I sent an email to support technique German toshiba and they said to try a bios update (which put bare in mind I still don't know how to do), then we have sent my laptop in a local computer store and told them the problem they do not put me to update the bios on a processor cempron.

Why not? What are the risks in need to know.

Please help me because I want to in the future might be upgraded to vista?

    Hello Daniel,.

I'm a little confused about your message from Mr.
What do you mean with half of the bios is enough?
What s wrong with the BIOS?

The support from Toshiba said-> try a BIOS update.
On the Toshiba page, you can download the BIOS for Satellite A40.

It seems you didn't check the download page detailed because on this page you will find this statement:
    IOS http://eu.Computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/FAQ.jsp?z=234&service=eu&from=faq_selection&CFID=B & FID = TRO0000000b07

The update of the BIOS has been detailed described in this document and that you follow these guidelines for the update of the BIOS.

  • Security issue on Z480: how to disable the F12 boot in Z480?

I am owner of Z480 here. In the BIOS, I put in HD as first boot. I also set the password for the BIOS. But I discovered that I can press F12 when the laptop starts to enter the boot menu and I can choose to boot from DVD or other medium.

So how to disable F12 key start in Z480?

    Hi all

I found a way to disable the "F12 Boot Menu": in the BIOS, check the "Password on Boot" option and the BIOS admin password. So, even when I pressed F12 at startup, the laptop computer invite you admin password to continue to the Boot Menu.

This could give a little annoyance that I have to enter the password twice (password BIOS and OS). But it's the price of having better security.

If anyone has a better idea or found a weakness in the way above, please let me know.

    Hi Dominic,

Are you able to get into BIOS to make changes?

If so, you can try to reset the default settings of the BIOS and check.

NOTE: Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

You can also try to remove all external usb devices that can be connected to the system and start-up and see if the system boots.

    Hi BKB

I don't know which characters you used to create the BIOS password, but I hope that you do not use certain exotic signs. You can delete the existing password only if you use the right one.

Another way to contact Toshiba partner in your country, and they will do it for you. Contact your local dealer and ask them for recommendation or check this page http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?pf=true

    Hello

You can remove the need for a power on password as follows.

Shut down the laptop.  Now on TAP the ESC key as soon as you press the power button to access the start menu, then select f10 to open the Bios menu.  Use the arrows to select the Security tab and press ENTER.  Use the arrow keys again to highlight the power on password and press ENTER.  Enter the current password and then for the new password, just leave this blank and press on enter – do the same for the confirmation field.  Press f10, select this option to save the new settings and press to enter.
