Satellite M30: Unknow Hard Error - could this be a problem of hard drive?

I got my Satellite M30 for 2 years now and it never gave me any problems, until a few weeks ago. The problem started shortly after I put Windows to SP2, when I played a game it would stick for a minute or two, and then continue on as usual, the problem slowly got worse and started blue screening with "Unknown hard error" and sometimes strange balloon in the lower right corner saying unknown hardware error and then freeze it. It also took a long time to start and generally do nothing.

Assumed it was a problem when I've upgraded to SP2, so I decided to reinstall Windows and start over again, update the BIOS while I was home.

Once this is done it seemed fine for an hour or two, but then tried to install a game and of course, the good old blue screen appears and the whole problem starts again.

I took it to a repair shop and explain the problem and I had re-installed Windows nothing helped, and I suspected that it may be a hardware failure, I left it with them, and 2 days later I get a call saying its all fixed and ready to be picked up, I asked what was wrong with it and they said that they re-installed Windows and sound now works fine (i.e. what I their) I said, I had made and n t worked!). I picked up (and got charged £40 to have done what I had already done). I got it home and everything seemed ok... for a few hours, then blue screens seemed to tell me any physical dumping of beginning and the usual stuff.

I think it might be a drive problem hard, like when I tried to install a game on it at night last light CD and HARD flash drive, one for about 15 seconds, then the other for a short time, data copied from one to the other, but then the HARD drive light stayed on, and I could hear the HARD disk as if it were sticky , after about a minute of this blue and close short-listed and took some time to turn back. If I leave a couple of hours and it starts fine until the next time.

So, after my long description on my problem, I have 2 questions,

1. could I be right in thinking that these problems are associated with hard drive?
2. If I'm right, is easy to replace on the M30 HARD drive and where I would buy a new?

Thanks for your time and help,

Kenny.

Hello

The blue screen appears only if you play games?

But I agree with you. In my opinion, there would really be a hardware malfunction.
The question is - it s a HARD drive or something different?
Hmmm. I think that the problem is not related to the disc HARD but maybe overheating?
According to the publication, sometimes when you play games. The game is a high performance application. All devices running with maximum performance and produce heat.

I m not 100% sure, but maybe the high temperature has a bad influence on the system and therefore the BSOD happens.
You suggested that the laptop run properly for about 2 years. Maybe fans can cool properly because of the dust and debris. Two years is a long time if you have not cleaned the cooling modules and fans.

    Hello

My Toshiba Satellite Pro M30 is 4 years old with a 60 GB hard drive (IDE).

    Thanks and greetings

    Hello

As far as I know the laptop is equipped with an ATA-100 IDE / ATA-6 HARD drive controller.
In this case, you will need to use the 2.5 IDE HARD drive.

I know with certainty that this notebook would support 80 GB HDD, but generally a larger HARD drive should also be possible because the controller is able to manage the 48-bit LBA.
The 48-bit LBA can handle hard drives of more than 120GB.

In my opinion, you can try a 120 GB and also 160 GB HARD drive should be possible.

  • Satellite U405 - S2833 Fingerprint error: could not open the sensor

Hello, I am very new to the forums so I apologize in advance if I don't give all the necessary accurate information in this thread.

I have a Toshiba U405-S2833 and it came with the TrueSuite Access Fingerprint Software.

I downloaded an update a few days ago, but I don't remember if it's for Vista or Toshiba. Since then, my fingerprints were all removed from the system, and when I try re - save, I get this error message "error: could not open the sensor" I can't find the material to fix the sensor manually without going through the TrueSuite software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

I am also having the same problem.

My boss uses a Satellite U405-2628 fingerprinting and with the sensor TrueSuite Access Manager. It worked fine, then I updated windows and it has stopped working. I was on the updates and noticed an update of TrueSuite and thought that maybe that was messed up things.

Then there were other issues that went past me locked out of the machine (anti-virus and loss of relationship with the field... also my fault). So I decided to wipe the machine and install fresh Vista.

I installed everything but the TrueSuite software still not able to open the sensor. After hitting my head on it, I decided enough was enough and I restored it using Toshiba recovery disks.

It took a few hours and here I am logged in as administrator and the TrueSuite software still cannot open the sensor. I don't know what I can do, since it is to return to the factory settings.

As the above poster said, HELP!

    Thank you.

    ... a little later...

Well, I managed to do work, and this can be useful for some people out there since I found no easy answers. I can't guarantee anything, and it's really complicated... so here go us.

First, I downloaded the latest update from Toshiba (util_fingerprint_27460A.exe) and nothing has worked.
Then I uninstalled the sensor since (click right, uninstalled) Device Manager to uninstall the driver as well (it should invite you to do so)
Then, still in the Device Manager, I scanned for new hardware and it came with my sensor. I said to look for drivers and when he could not find, I think it gave me an option for windows search for an answer... or something like that. He came back with a link to Authentec (www.authentec.com/win7update/w7wbf32.exe, I think). So I downloaded that and installed. He rose through the device under "Biometric devices" then before... I think it's under the "Personall security device" or something like that. But alas, still no luck. So I uninstalled all the device from the Device Manager (taking care of uninstalling the driver as well) and of the TrueSuite software. Then came the break I was looking for.

Online research I came across this page... http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?action=download&driverid=1194755. I had the chance before to DriverGuide.com so I thought what the heck. It is a driver of HP for the same sensor and it is dated 2006. So I downloaded and installed. Still nothing...

Disgusted, I thought, well let's try to install util_fingerprint_27460A.exe on top of that. So I did, restarted and I couldn't believe my eyes when he said to connect and register fingerprints not seriously. And so I did. I hope this helps people, I don't really know how the sensor I so messed up, but I'm glad it worked.

Yet one thing... and this may be important. When I took TrueSuite first after doing all this, he told me that the storage of fingerprints was full... or something in that sense. So I clicked the button remove all traces of fingers button and it I would like to register my fingerprints. I'm starting to wonder if that was all I had to do in the first place... Guess I'll never know.

    Good luck.

  • How to install Win 8 on Satellite C850 after HARD drive failure?

I have a PC repair business and a customer gave me a portable Satellite C850-1 kN which took a catastrophic hard disk failure (just clicking from the road).

I replaced the hard drive and tried to boot from a DVD 8 Windows, changing the order of startup in the bios, however, it still gives an error message "no boot device."

I see no way to turn off boot UEFI, it appears grayed out in the configuration of the bios.

How can I reinstall Windows on this laptop?

First, you must know that the (CSM/UEFI mode) parameter must be changed if you want to install the system supported UEFI not (Win 7 and higher).
Win 8 and 8.1 Win are UEFI capable systems and you should be able to use the option to UEFI mode.

What about the secure boot option?
Have you found and have you tried to disable this option?

  • Satellite A300-1IW: HARD drive access light blinks every second

Hello everyone, and sorry for the English, I'm french :)

I bought a Satellite A300-1IW a few days and suddenly (don't remember exactly when) early light access HARD drive blinks every second and it continues even after several reboots!

It does so only with Vista; I checked the disk with 'diskmon' activity and I saw that even if it was * no. * disk * written * or * reading * the led continues flashing, so I think that it is not bound to certain services of vista (superfetch, indexing...)

A similar problem, I saw on a Microsoft support, but it was under windows 98 and with old motherborads!
    See: link: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138598]

So it seems that it is related to level Vista SCSI or DVD...

I have now is not critical, but it's annoying to have this led flashes all the time

You have an idea? Don't you think that it could be related to bios? I want to be sure before touching it, because it is always tricky.

    Thanks for your help

In my opinion, nobody can offer no comment because you already gave the answer. There is nothing unusual and certainly no reason to panic.

What do about it? What you want to do? Sorry, but this is a really stupid question. I can just offer you a stupid answer. ;) Take black tape and curl up the LED. ;)

  • Satellite P25-S507 - HARD drive replacement

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite P25-S507, which more is under warranty and has begun to report S.M.A.R.T. errors.

SmartMonitor reports a lot of questions especially marked as old age so I need to replace the disk. I was wondering if I can replace it with any standard 2.5 "ATA as an ATA-100 player. as the disk of 60 GB specification is ATA - 5.

    Any help appreciated.

Maybe no one has replaced the HARD drive on this laptop because it s Autric series and is a European forum of Toshiba, and most of us have European workbooks

But the P25 is very similar to the P20 series.
The P20 supports an improved IDE (ATA-5) interface.

Then you should be able to use IDE hard drives.

    If you want to use a faster disk (ATA-6 or later), then possibly the controller would have only allows the performance of ATA-5;
    ATA - 5 = Ultra DMA 66 = 4, = 6 MB/s UDMA-66 ;)

  • Satellite M70 - after HARD drive partitioned, the OS does not start

    Hello

Good then this is a real doozy, and I hope that someone will help.

I started to fix my satellite m70 girlfriends using the disc of recovery etc, everything went fantastic, the HARD disk has been erased and Windows + all software has been reinstalled.

Then I thought it would be a good idea to use partition magic to partition the hard drive, so I chose the main hard drive and cut 10GB of it to put in place a new partition.

I rebooted, and then after Windows restarted again completed.

NOW, it does not charge, it says no operating system, so I tried to start with the recovery disk and all over again...

If I click on continue (to start the recovery process), however it is said now that the "Error #1828", free space is too small.

I'm really angry that this has happened and I just want to start over again.

Can someone help me with this?
I can't access the Bios either (not sure if that might help), because I don't know the password (must be a fault im not aware of).

    Help, please.

    Thank you
    SG

I think that this is the reason why you used a tool to change the size of the partition. At best, this should be done before you install Windows and 10 GB is a little too small for Windows. You must use at least 15-20 GB for the first partition where the BONE is placed.

To resolve this problem, you must delete all existing partitions before using the recovery disk. Therefore, you can use a Windows XP disk or something else. Just boot from it and delete all partitions. Then the recovery disk should work.
    Check it!

  • Satellite L300D - corrupted hard drive, no recovery media, no windows key

I have a Satellite L300D-11V I'm looking for someone who would not go further that a screen blank after windows start logo, and also when you run Startup Repair he would get at this stage even too. Now pressed 0 while starting would not bring to the top of recovery, only an option for Windows Vista.

With the help of some high end diagnostic software I have diagnosed that the hard drive has several physical defects that could well be the reason for this purpose the reader is better off being replaced. However, because of the mistakes, I am unable to create images of the player via Acronis or similar.

Buying a new drive no problem, but the person never did no recovery media so it appears I have to buy a Toshiba recovery.

There is no Windows key on the case anywhere either.

If I had to buy a Toshiba Recovery, it would be important that I have no Windows key on the presumption that the recovery would be an already activated installation of Vista for laptop?

    Thank you

    > If I buy a Toshiba Recovery, it would be important to have no Windows key on the presumption that the recovery would be an already activated installation of Vista for laptop?
In this situation best way to solve this is to swap HARD drive, restore disk original order of Toshiba and install Recovery designed for this model laptop image.
Recovery image should not be enabled. After the installation, it will be activated automatically if you n t need product key of Microsoft for activation.

Original recovery disk can be ordered on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

By the way: Win7 32 bit works quite well on this laptop model then perhaps you should install has the version of Win7. Of course if you do this, you need legal product key.
Anyway it has nothing to do with Microsoft sticker placed on Toshiba laptops. This key cannot be used for activation anyway.

  • Satellite L300-17I - hard drive replacement

Hi, I have a few questions.

My laptop is Toshiba Satellite L300 - 17l as I have already written. My internal HARD drive is broken. He has some bad sectors, and I do not know how to isolate them so that I could use the rest of the hard disk! Can you help me and why I can't install Windows 7 on drive D, it only allows me to install on the C partition?

And another question: my HARD drive is MK2552GSX but I can not find it on the market, so I ask is it ok if I buy a MK2565GSX? He would be able to me contruction the present MK2552GSX with MK2565GSX or it is impossible? I mean, is this compatible with my main card drive or not? and if not you know witch drives comatible?

    Thank you! :)

    Hi Dimitar,

To be honest, if your hard drive has bad sectors it s time to replace because it s not advisable to save all data on it.

With regard to the new HARD drive: you can install all models I think. Is important that you buy a model of 2.5 HARD drive SATA interface but each HARD disk will work so it s not making not specific.
So, you can buy the Toshiba MK2565GSX you found :)

  • Satellite L650 - 15G - HARD drive starts after 10 to 15 seconds

    Hi my dear,
    Please can someone help,

I have my Satellite L650 - 15G, I bought 10/01/2010. I have a problem that occurs only with the battery, when I press the power button, I hear the fan starting, lamp wireless, then the lamp light power but not the lamp of HDD, 2 to 3 seconds the laptop closed. If I pressed the power button / stop again after that or I pressed again while the light from the lamp of the hard drive and it will start normally. This never happen when I connect the charger with the battery or when I use it with the adapter only.

I changed the battery of the Toshiba, but no way. I changed the power management, made adjustments in power management bios (version 1.8 after I updated), disable, enable certain features in Device Manager but no way.

The more strange that many times it starts normal and other times it does so. Also, this may manifest itself sometimes in long boot times, which means that I sometimes hear fan, see wirless, power lights up and after 10-15 seconds, the hard drive turns on and starts.
    Please help me

I went to the warranty Center Toshiba in Cairo and they checed on Tester then nothing said abnorml with processor, hard, Rams

    Hello

And that said the guys from the Toshiba warranty Center that could be? Is it a hardware problem or not?

To be honest it is really hard to say something about it, but at the moment for me, it looks like a HARD drive or motherboard problem.

Did you also load default settings in the BIOS after update?

    Hello

I agree with Akuma L20 supports a SATA controller and you need and 2.5 SATA HDD.
Usually it s no matter which manufacturer is all 2.5 SATA hard drives must be compatible

With regard to the 48-bit LBA:
As far as I know that this could be just a problem with HDD IDE (P - ATA). SATA HDD should not be affected. So, theoretically, you could upgrade the HARD disk using larger than 128 GB.

    Regarding the upgrade of memory:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=20683&ft=m&St=3

    You need DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM and you can use 2 x 1 GB RAM

  • Satellite L300 - made HARD drive failure?

    Hello

I have a Satellite L300 age of 4 years (under Vista) who is suddenly suspended frequently.
A bit of investigation leads me to think that it is a hard drive failure.
Basically, chkdsk/r crashes at step 4. Disk defragmentation also blocks.

I can start safe mode, and it seems to work ok.
Is not an expert, could someone tell me if I jump to the wrong conclusion?
Y at - it a diagnostic tool to specific hard drive from Toshiba that I could use?

If the standard duration for these hard drives 4 years?

Finally, when a hard drive crashes, it's just the specific physical areas that are illegible? or will it progessively spread and worsen very quickly?

And I have everything backed up if not concerned about data loss but I was wondering about the short-term future.

Thank you for any advice and provided thoughts.

    > Is there a diagnostic tool to specific hard drive from Toshiba that I could use?

You can use another tool of diagnosis of HARD disk as disk HARD Drive Fitness Test.
This freeware tool that allows you to scan the HARD drive.

This software creates a diagnostic boot disk and you will need to boot from this drive to run the test.

    > Finally, when a hard drive fails, is it only specific physical areas that are illegible? or will gradually expand and worsen very quickly?

HARD drive problems are always difficult.
In most cases if the HARD drive crashes, you will be able to access files stored on the HARD drive.
But different COMPUTER experts would still be able to recover files lost with special tools. But in most cases, these rescue operations are expensive and cost a lot of money.
