Satellite M30X: Problems with external USB 2.0 HARD drive

Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite M30X. I bought recently a 200 GB external hard drive. It has its own power supply. If I connect with USB 2.0 on my laptop, it happens to disconnect and reconnect leads him. Sometimes it works, so I can put data on the disc. Then again, he diconnects and reconnects repeatedly. I've tried a different USB Port, but there is no difference. It's very strange, because I plugged the external hard drive to many other computers (Laptop and Tower) and it STILL works! It is that with my cell phone, it disconnects and reconnects all the time. As I said, not always. Sometimes it works for a half an hour or two and then the action begins again...

If anyone can help?
Oxford Lutz

Hello

I put t know if this can help, but you can try to connect a USB hub with an external power supply. Then try to connect this external HARD disk to the USB hub.
I know that it of not a exactly the solution but maybe it will help you to solve this problem of USB.

Good bye

  • Satellite P300D - problem with reboot after update the HARD drive

    Hello

I have laptop Satellite P300D - 12 c and recently, I put a new hard drive, the Seagate momentus 7200 RPM 2.5 "500 GB. It works well, but I have a strange problem; normally when I reboot the laptop when it will close something sounds, in the figurative sense I could say "something moves" for a bit in the DVD - ROM drive and shuts down and then restarts.

Now, when the reboot happens to the part of the dvd - rom drive, I described above it stucks there... "something is happening" on the dvd - rom drive as trying to permanently access a dvd or something and he does the same thing until I force it to shut down by pressing the appropriate button. It happens once in two attempts to restart.

Does anyone have a solution or a tip or something? If you do not understand something to tell me,

    Thank you very much

    Hello!

I agree with Akuma. Maybe the drive is loose and so you should try re-allocation of places there.
    Maybe it works

And updated the BIOS, you can find the Toshiba site:

    Hello!

The external box is maybe defective, because you said that the HARD drive works in your laptop and the PS3 without problem.
You can test the HARD drive in another external case?

WD test unknown to me but I always use the Drive Fitness Test:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test, you can test your HARD drive. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. You can then the HARD drive.

    Hello

Well, in my opinion, this problem occurs if the USB port can't provide enough power.
In this case, that the USB hub must be connect to external power.

  • Problem with the speed of the HARD drive on downgrated just on WinXP n/b Satellite A300

After new lineup A300, it was decided to downgrade the system to Windows XP sp3.
First of all, the AHCI mode was changed to COMPATIBILITY mode in the BIOS.
After re-creating partitions on the HARD drive (Vista feature), XP sp3 has been installed.
With all the drivers installation is normally, but first, I've noticed, it's very long loading of the system.
In addition, regular copy of files of any source also went very for a long time.
After reviewing the disk with "HDD-tune", I was shocked - maxspeed A300 HDD did not exceed 2.6 MB/sec (while on a desktop computer, this setting was more than 80 MB/s).

My question. Is it normal? If it isn't (I think it isn't), what should I do? I ask your help or advice.

    > First of all, the AHCI mode was changed to COMPATIBILITY mode in the BIOS.
I think it's the answer to your question.
If you want to use the full speed of HARD drive and better performance, you must use AHCI mode.
In this case, you can install Windows XP Home edition with the SATA driver.

Check it please this page. You will find beautiful description how to find SATA drivers. At the end you can also find the link to the guide for "Slipstreamer SATA driver in the Windows XP boot cd using nLite".

    I hope this helps.
    Good luck!

  • Windows Vista does not recognize external USB 260 GB HARD drive

I have a 260 GB Seagate external hard drive, a laptop Toshiba satellite and Windows Vista Basic.

The same Windows usually choose the hard drive when I plug it, it does not appear in Device Manager and in disk management, the only way I can get it to work is to uninstall all the USB root hub and then restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB root hub and plug my hard drive.

When windows finally recognizes him, the only way to find the driver must choose c:\ manually and there's the search for the computer.
Works for the time that I have the computer hard disk, but when I stopped it, next time I use the computer, I'm having exactly the same problem.

I tried to remove the hard drive safely and then close the computer and by him plugging back in after windows has loaded, I tired it connected from the computer and tried to close the computer with connected.

    None of these work.
    Can someone help me please?

    Strange?  :|
But what need s say Microsoft Windows so I don't expect 100% without bug OS ;)

Disconnect the USB HDD and remove all the USB ports and Device Manager USB controllers. After restarting again the OS should reinstall ports. Then you could try to reconnect the HARD drive.

  • External USB 3.0 HARD drive does not work on USB 3.0 port

    Hello guys,.

I have a problem with my external HARD drive and the problem is that it is USB 3.0 feature does not work in my computer.

The curious thing is that it works very well in the SATA port or a normal USB 2.0 port.

Y at - it a failure with the HARD drive or is there something wrong with my motherboard (M5A99 fx pro r2.0)?

    Thanks in advance.

From my point of view of the few is not HARD drive problem because the HARD drive operates in a USB 2.0 port.

I m wondering if you tried to update the USB 3.0 driver.
Have you tried this HARD disk in another computer / USB 3.0 ports?
I think that its worth a check.

Also, I read on some problems of USB 3.0 controller from different manufacturers.
Sometimes, it might be possible that some problems of compatibility between different devices may arise.

  • External USB 2.0 Hard Drive detected only 10 seconds in the Device Manager

I am running Windows 7 and trying to plug my hard drive 200 GB from an old computer with XP in my new computer via USB 2.0 to an external case.  The external box is its own source of power and requires no drivers. When I plug it into the USB port, I hear the Bell indicating the window detects an external device and she appears under USB devices in Device Manager, but only for about 10 seconds then disappears.  It never appear in disk management or in the computer as a mass storage device.  I tried to use other cables/USB ports. I tried exchanging the external box for a new thought the first one was defective, but that did not help.

    Hi Stroke77,

    ·         Did you get the computer pre-installed with Windows 7?

It is about if the external drive worked when the computer was working with Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Here are some steps that may help you solve the problem.

    1. plug in and turn on the external USB hard drive
    2. right mouse click on workstation
    3 left click on manage
    4. click on Device Manager
    5 expand the USB list
6 find the USB device to USB hard drive
    7. the right mouse click - Uninstall
8 turn off the external USB hard drive
    9. turn on the external hard drive USB and let it find and install the driver
    10. it should work

  • Problem with activation by using two hard drives (XP on one) and Win7 on the other

I have XP sp3 installed on a hard drive and Win7 on another. I never use XP, I only keep there to keep my Win7 works great.

I do not remember how did I installed win7, but I pretty sure I booted from a USB key and installed on a new hard drive.

It seems that XP hard drive is in charge the boot settings, or something because I have set as the boot default HDD (in bios), and then select Windows 7 in boot menu that follows.

If I select the hard disks Windows 7 the default boot hard drive, Windows restores activation. Select the hard drive with XP and win7 then choosing in the start menu, works very well, the activation is OK again.

I'll install Win8 (that I already bought), but I still need to figure out what to do with this situation, because I need to replace the hard drive where XP is installed and install Win8 and have a double Win7 and boot 8.

It is possible to solve the problem of activation, without having me call Microsoft? I use a utility called EasyBCD 2.2 and I was wondering if maybe this program could help fix me.

    Any thoughts?
    Wilfredo.

Disconnect the drive xp, fix the win7 installation and activate if necessary

  • Is it possible to upgrade the Satellite A100-906 with 160 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive

    Hello guys,.

First of all, I would like to congratulate all the people here for their good advice.
As for my question, I want to upgrade my HARD drive. I have the laptop A100-906, which has a drive HARD 100 GB 5400 RPM Hitachi.

The hard drive, I would like to buy, is also Hitachi but with the highest capacity (160 GB) and RPM faster (7200 against 5400).
I wonder, if my laptop supports this drive and if I have problems with temperature and noise, because the HARD drive runs at 7200 RPM.

To summarize the above, is it really useful to replace my old 5400 RPM HARD drive to a new 7200 RPM?
Should I buy a new one with 5400 RPM to avoid having problems of temperature and noise?

Please let me know your opinion and thank you in advance.
    STL

    Hello

As you already know we can only speculate on the size of the HARD disk
In my opinion the 160 GB would be possible. But it s just my personal opinion.

In any case, the higher speed (7200 RPM) HARD drive should be a problem. I noticed that many laptops use 7200 RPM HDDs and 5200 RPM. So I imagine that the heat produced by the HARD drive shouldn't t increase the level of temperature at a critical level.

    Hello

  • The urge to Ultrabook 6 problem with recovery after failure of hard drive (out of warranty)

    Hello

Please can someone tell me if it is true that to use HP factory recovery disks, hardware must be exactly the same as when purchased.

After hours wasted trying to get the recovery disks to work, I find myself with the same "failed to retrieve @ screen and some unnecessary lines of code."

In reading the various posts, it seems that I have a replacement for HP HARD drive of the same type that came with the computer. If this is the case, then the links on the support pages should say this before I have pay £39 for a set of disks.

For me, a hard drive is a hard drive. I replaced a drive fried (1 month out of warranty expires) with a good brand replacement, but larger. Disks won't load.

However, I could load W7 form an iso file and get that to work. I need the recovery because I do not know how to configure raid which allows the QuickStart on this laptop, and I don't have the time or no further inclination to make it work.

Partly a rant, sorry, but I'm wrong, and is there a solution?

    Concerning

I have seen others with this problem. Unfortunately, the only working solution, I remember the top was where a guy removed the player cache Msata, ran recovery then reinstalled.

On a single charge of Win 7 I think you could install the Intel Quick Start software, then use it to activate the quick start. I have more a laptop Win 7 with Msata to test, but I remember the software could be opened from the icon beside the system clock and used to toggle the quick start.

  • Problem with installing Windows on a hard drive, HARD drive does not get detected after installation

Original title: help with hard drive of the computer.

    Flow of the problem:

My aunt tried to install windows 7 on the previous copy of windows 8. Needless to say that it doesn't work and it has messed up the hard drive. So, I bought a vacuum. I formatted the hard drive using my other windows computer to have 2 partitions: a boot partition and system partition, and then used the program WinToUSB to install windows on the hard disk. The reason I did it is, because no matter how many times I changed the BIOS in my laptop of aunts, it wouldn't boot from the DVD player to load the windows software. After a few hours, I found WinToUSB. Once windows has been installed, I plugged it into the laptop. For a few hours, I didn't know what to do, because the computer does not recognize the hard drive (he said: "Not detected"). I decided to start from legacy, and then the screen deals

    «intell...» »

and a bunch of dates, etc all the stuff on the screen to load legacy if you know what I mean.

He said "not plugged in the media. Check the power cord.

Then quickly changed screen before I can read almost anything and it goes to the normal windows screen black (with 4 colors). I said to myself, how can he be loading if the hard drive is not detected... Once it is loaded, he brought me to the blue screen (blue screen of death, if you want) I turned the computer on again, always noticing the hard drive was not detected. I ran all the recovery/repair options I could and turned off the laptop. I came back a few hours ago and I loaded the computer again and went into the BIOS.  He said that the hard drive has been detected and said the news about this, as usual. However, at the start of the legacy of windows loading screen, it said still not detected.  I then started to windows to see since it is now detected if that fixes the blue screen. Yet, there is no. I tried to go to the normal windows and screen remains blue. any ideas?

    Hello Chris,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

According to the description, it seems that Windows was not properly installed on the hard drive. I'm not sure how to work the software from third-party manufacturers WinToUSB and reliable installation process is. Microsoft does not recommend using any third party tool to install Windows on your computer, the use of these third-party tools can cause serious damage to your computer.

I would say to format the hard drive once more and try to install Windows through normal Windows installation process.

Refer to the section "using the installation option custom if no operating system is installed" in the thread below.

    Installing and reinstalling Windows

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/installing-reinstalling-Windows#1TC=Windows-7

If you are not able to install Windows on the hard drive at all, I suggest you to contact the hard drive manufacturer to obtain a diagnosis of material performed on the hard drive.

Do not hesitate to write back for any further assistance with Windows, we will be happy to help you.

  • Problems of formatting of the new hard drive in Macbook Pro

    Hello

My internal hard drive in my MacBook Pro mid 2012 broke down. So I installed a new hard drive a ST1000LM014 of Seagate 1 TB hybrid discs which according to IFIXIT.com must be compatible.

I then boot the server Apple Macbook and party in disk Utillity to format the hard drive. The hard drive is visible and I'm then in the partition, choose the 1 partition, Mac OS X (journaled) + GUID. But while the partition that I get the error message failed to file system format.

I tried different options in disk Utillity and I am able to format the disk using FAT or ExFat. But it does not help me to use my mac hard drive.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? And it does not seem like a problem with the functionality of the hard drive?

    Thank you

You must select the disk of material-name (upper, outermost level descriptor), not Volume name.
