Satellite M40 - 129 (German model)

You have 3 questions before you buy this model:
(a) want to install WIN XP Pro SP2, all supplied drivers function 100% or do I have to download separate drivers?
(b) have read in another Forum that the speakers make crackling noises, it's because of hardware or software problem.
(c) the manual says internal XYZ of Intel graphics card of 128 MB, ATI X 600 external (and other modelst)
What this means for the internal display (TFT screen) the graphics card ATI isn't all involved only a few shared Intel graphics?
Thanks for the Info

Hi zulo

In my opinion there is no way to change the battery for M40. Any form of battery for laptop model hat.

  • Satellite M40-129 and drivers Win7

    Hello

I just installed Win7 on my Toshiba Satellite M40-129. It was really hard... Windows refuses to complete the installation until I deleted pcmcia.sys in the windows system folder.

Now I have the problem that my pcmcia cardbus is working nor my SD card reader. As soon as I ask for Win7 to update driver PCMCIA, the doesn´t of the computer unbootable until I have again to remove pcmcia.sys.

Now my question: I can live with having one for not working the PCMCIA port, but there all the drivers available for windows 7 and the Cardbus SD?

    Thank you very much.

    Technohead

This old Satellite is not supported for Win7 and you won't find any driver for it. It is not easy to configure the hardware on these old books but Win7 has good drivers base and, after several Microsoft updates most of the equipment must be installed correctly.

What you can try is to try to install the driver designed for another model of laptop. Perhaps satellite A100 or Satellite A200. I put t know if this will help but you can test it in any case.

  • Adapter Satellite M40 - 129 Centrino PM730

    Hello

    I have the portable 'Satellite M40 - 129 Centrino PM730' computer
I need a 2nd power adapter, because I'm working on 2 places (and I'm lazy to wear)
The one I have is model Liteon: PA-1750-08.
    (1) is the only model that works, and that another one would also work?
    (2) I want to buy it online, what other adapters are also compatible for my laptop.
I have no idea for the "key words" I can search in google or ebay?
(Currently the results I get for my research are not so good.)
    (3) for example, I found Liteon model: PA-1650-02. This would also work with my laptop, is there any mapping?

    Thank you

  • When I'm playing games like Fifa07 Satellite M40-129 freezes

When ia´m to play games like Fifa07 my phone freezes from time to time. I have a Satellite M40-129 with the latest version of the driver 6.14.10.6525.

I get the error message (German): http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/2337/grafikkartentreiberdf9.png

Isn't there anything I can do to avoid those who freezes.

    Hi Sascha

Is the laptop freezes only when you play this special game or it freezes by other applications, games, etc?
Don t know exactly why it happens, but if the laptop freezes only during playback the Fifa07 then it might be a problem of compatibility of graphics driver with this game.

Do you use the graphics driver for the Toshiba page?

    -WIFI: Intel (r) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection, Version 9.0.1.9

My connection to the local network is of about ~ 110 KB/s.
My WiFi is of about ~ 60 KB/s.

Arcor support sent me a technician to check my connection.
The connection is good. His laptop WLAN gets ~110kb/s
But my WLAN connection is bad :-(

    How to increase speed WLAN?

    -Aykut

    Hello

Check the properties of the card wireless in Device Manager. On the Advanced tab, there is transmit power setting. I hope that it is defined at the highest level. Your card is standard g and it should work up to 54 MBit per second.

  • Satellite M40-129 Harddrive Bluescreen Error

    Hello
I got a M40-129 last year, created 2 Partitions and installed XP Pro SP2. Everything worked very well, but a few months I drive hard-error-Bluescreens. When I run Chkdsk afterwards, I get messages about bad securities Index or orphan data segments (translated from German). Normally I reinstall my laptop then go to a backup Image and all is well again. But these errors occurring weekly/daily now.

I called the support, but I was told that the support would be only grab the laptop and see if the problem still occurs. But that's what I'm already doing. Is it possible to fix this?

P.S Partition Magic shows my a score of 88 Type which is big 204 MB. Any idea what this score is used?

    Hello

First something about your partition hidden.
The M40-129 Sat was delivered with the Media Express Player.
This player is pre-installed on the hidden partition.

Well, HARD disk system errors and the file can result from a variety of problems, such as hardware failures, outages of electricity, poor system maintenance, virus and human error.

When you run Chkdsk with parameters, such as / f / / r, Chkdsk repair errors related to file system structures.

I recommend the Microsoft information page. Here, you will find many useful information about HARD drive failure and why this happens.

  • Does anyone have experiences with Windows Vista on a Satellite M40-129?

    Hello
does anyone have experiences with Windows Vista (Business) on an M40-129? Any suggestions on the proper drivers and advice are welcome.

    Best regards
    Sascha

    Hello

I have an owner of the M40 motorway m but I didn t install Vista on my laptop.
Why? good Vista needs a lot more material resources like the XP.
In addition many additional applications that are running on my system are not compatible with Vista.
Last but not lease I didn t find the drivers of Toshiba for the M40 on the Web site.

I think that the drivers Vista missing on the page is not a problem serious because important factors as driver graph, sound driver, lan and Wlan driver can be downloaded from the website of chip manufacturing.

Anyway, if you want to install Vista on your M40 I would create an additional partition and install the OS on the second partition.
In this case, you can use the two BONES; XP and Vista.

To my knowledge the Vista installs a clean boot manager and it should be very easy to switch between XP and Vista.

    Best regards

    Good bye

  • White screen on Satellite M40-129 with no BIOS access

OK, I really tried a lot of things to find out what it may be.
When I start the laptop it seems to start, but the rest black screen (AC + Power lights up, but no disk HARD-light).
I tried several times, even with ESC + on and F2 + now and 50 only once I could see the splash screen.
He was there for several minutes and nothing happened. So I decided to try it again... and Im yet to try.

Support told me there is a problem with the bios, but since I can't access what it is, I can't update the bios.
I tried with an external monitor, with or without battery, with and without the HARD drive (bios must be accessible without).
    Always with the same result.
And as these things always happen after the expiration of the warranty.

The hardware seems to work (ok once a lot) and for strange behavior, I wonder if anyone had a similar experience or has a tip for me.

One of my friends has Satellite M40 and it's very nice for laptop. If possible try to connect your laptop to external monitor and just turn it on. It will be interesting to know if it works or not. If so, I assume that the display is faulty.

  • Satellite M40-129 has blue screen error again

    Hello world
I already had a lot of trouble with my laptop-Toshiba (see http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=12490&messageID=45526) and now it's broken again. The HARD drive has been replaced by Toshiba-Support in August 2006. Until yesterday, everything worked fine, but then I got a blue screen again. This time the HARD drive seems to be completely broken and lost iss data. The Toshiba Recovery DVD tells me 'Check' errors for a drive partition and other boot floppies like BartPE, HardAlyzer or the Acronis boot CD tell me that they can not find any HARD disk.

Toshiba warranty has expired, but is there at least a guarantee on the HARD drive has changed? Otherwise, it is difficult to replace the HARD drive?

Best regards from a disappointed user of Toshiba
    Sascha

    Hi Sascha,

Sorry to hear about your hard drive problems. However, replace the hard drive is very simple on the M40. In my view, it is located under a Panel to access the bottom of the unit. Just remove the two screws fixing the Panel and then slide the drive away from the connector and remove. There are a few photos showing this here:-http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaM45/Satellite_M45_disassembly_1.htm

    Kind regards

  • Satellite M40 - 129 stops starting after the Toshiba screen

    Hello
My M40 continues sometimes to start after the Toshiba screen. He stops and all I see is the blinking cursor. No Error Message or something else and normal boot from the HARD drive. Boot from CD (for example. Œuvres of Knoppix). This problem sometimes occurs and traceable for me isn´t.

    Best regards
    Spoony

    Hey Spoony

Unfortunately on this path, it is not easy to say why this is happening. Each user has a specific configuration OS and we don t know how your operating system is configured.

You can boot OS in safe mode? If Yes check what the problem may be a little. If there is anything you can do I recommend you save all your data and preinstall unit using rescue media. If you do this I recommend also to create two partitions.

Don t compare WXP and Linux startup procedure. As you know that Knoppix using just the RAM and no HARD drive for the race.

  • Satellite M40-129: how to run the SRS TruSurround XT?

    Hello to all users

First of all I want you to know that I am in the Germany so hopefully you don't punish me. I use my laptop for 3 years now and it me satifies much. Recently, I had to format my drive hard [no not recover] and couldn't find a driver of the SRS TruSurround XT function. I remember that these features boost the huge volume.
I am looking for it a long time ago and I hope you can help me. Is it still possible?

    Your faithfully

    Hello

    > Recently, I had to format my drive hard did not recover and couldn't find a driver of the SRS TruSurround XT function
Generally if you have used the Toshiba recovery disc then all drivers preinstalled, tools and features of the laptop must be present again.

Page, you will find the European Toshiba driver called Virtual Sound.
    Maybe you mean this feature

You can find it on the page of the European pilot in the area of the Archive!

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M40-129 BSOD and does not start correctly

    Hi again.

I was working on my computer since my last question, but (almost) nothing has changed.
    The problem:
My laptop is booting, but only on very rare occasions.
    What can happen:
-l' screen stays black (almost 50% of cases)
-L' splash screen (Toshiba - in touch with tomorrow) becomes visible and nothing happens then (40%)
    -Notepad starts "correctly" (10%)

If the notebook starts correctly there are 2 options:
1st: I try to start Windows: it crashes with a blue screen with the nice request an update of the BIOS.
2nd: I boot SuSe Linux: EVERYTHING WORKS!

I tried to update the BIOS the traditional way, although it is difficult to get it started it runs until shortly before the end and restart the computer.
I don't see any confirmation screen as Im used to.

What I assume, that the associated BIOS startup problem.

I read a method for recovering the BIOS with a floppy disk, where you copy the BIOS. ROM disk and start the computer with the disc.
My question is: is this also possible with a CD (have no floppy drive), if yes: how to proceed?

I wanted to give a point of service of Toshiba, but if they can't fix it, I always have to pay 50 euros. I have to pay money to get my BIOS restored, but the service seems to be just a "-delivery service" the real point of service and I would like to speak with a qualified person, first :)

    > I read a method for recovering the BIOS with a floppy disk, where you copy the BIOS. ROM disk and start the computer with the disc.
    > My question is: is it possible with a CD (have no floppy drive), if yes: how to proceed?

Hmm, you said that you have already received the traditional BIOS files from the ASP in your country. Then maybe you should take a look at this Toshiba document:
