Satellite M40-154 (PSM40E) - which HARD drive new can I use?

Hello community,

need a new HARD drive for my * Satellite M40 154 GR PSM 40th *. The old a HDD is: Toshiba MK8025GAS. The new need Toshiba also, 5400 RPM and 80-100GB capacity.
I already try to find out which is right for my laptop, but I do not understand much about the HARD drives. There are more types, like GSX... But I need one that is compatible with my M40. Pleas help.

Kind regards.

AFAIK you can use each HARD top of page 120 GB disk because your laptop is a limitation of LBA 28 bits. This means that you can use the top of 128 GB of DISK space.

The new HARD drive should be have an IDE interface and size 2.5. All that s and normally each Toshiba HDD should work with these specifications.

    Hello

I have a 2430-402 satellite and the hard drive is full. Can someone tell me the greatest, he will take care and what kind do I buy? (Probably not PATA or SATA but I should look into IDE)

    Thank you

    Jez

    Hello

You are right. To my knowledge, the Satellite 2430 was delivered with an improved interface to drive HARD IDE (ATA-5). Therefore, we must look for IDE hard disks.

I'm not sure about Mr. size of HARD drive max. I think that Toshiba provides official information what size HARD drive max can be used. I presume to test

Laptop has been delivered with a40GB HARD disk. Am I wrong?
Hmm in my opinion the 60GB HDD should run. You might also try a 80 GB HARD drive if it s compatible.
But I really very skeptical about larger sizes.

  • Windows on Satellite M40-276 - no visible HARD drive installation

    Hello

Since the end of the week, I had time to start my Toshiba Satellite M40-276 (PSM44E)...

I installed Windows XP Pro, I don't remember installing any kind of SATA/PATA drivers, but unfortunately Windows Setup does not recognize the hard drive installed, which was never changed.

Now, I have discovered that the hard disk sometimes does not appear in the BIOS?
Is there any type of driver that I can download and include in a Windows installation CD?

When I start the laptop with Knoppix 5.1.1 I can copy and access to all files on NTFS formatted disks, the hard drive itself should be well (im checking with HDD Regenerator v1.51 on a Boot CD for the moment).

And I have another question - y at - it an update of the BIOS for the Satellite M40-276 (PSM44E) which can be flashed on a boot CD? On the official homepage I can only find the update of the BIOS Windows :(

    Thanks for your patience...

    Best regards

    Hello

Have you tried to reinstall the OS from the Toshiba restore CD? Or did you use the clean Windows XP CD?

AFAIK the M40 supports a SATA HDD and the laptop was equipped with a SATA HDD controller.
Windows XP with SP2 should recognize the HARD disk properly.
If your XP doesn t contains SP2 and include it using the program nLite

    > And I have another question - y at - it an update of the BIOS for the Satellite M40-276 (PSM44E) which can be flashed on a boot CD? On the official homepage, I can only find the Windows BIOS update

No, only the win-version of the BIOS is available on the Toshiba page!

  • Satellite L300D - 18 d - which hard drive I need to replace?

Hi guys, my first post here.

My girlfriend has a Toshiba Satellite L300D - 18 d and the hard side is now more and more corrupted so I want to buy a replacement drive, but I'm not sure what I need, the size is not as important as its only really used for word and the internet, but if you could point me in the right place I would be very grateful :)

The number of the hard drive from the Device Manager is: wdc wd1200bevs-26usto, but that really doesn't mean anything to me.

    Thank you guys.

    Michael

    Hello

    > The number of the hard drive from the Device Manager is: wdc wd1200bevs-26usto, but that really doesn't mean anything to me.
This model number means that is a Western Digital 120 GB HARD drive is installed. :)

Satellite L300D supports SATA drives. This means that each size of HARD drive works and there is no limit of ability more.

It is only important that you buy a SATA 2.5 HARD. Brand and the size is not important, because all the models/size will not work. Just buy a HARD drive where you can get a good offer. I guess 320 or 500 GB models have the best ratio cost-benefit for the moment. 50 euros should normally be sufficient for such a HARD drive.

  • Re: Which HARD drive I can use in my Satellite 1110

    Nice day!

I want to set a larger HARD drive in my notebook, but I don't know how low have the motherboard.
Buy drive HARD 160 GB and its job properly?
And I have to buy HDD PATA or SATA?

    Help me please.
    Thank you

160 GB HARD drive on this old notebook?
    You kidding me?

According to the specifications of the laptop you can enhance it with 30 GB drive HARD (MK3018GAP).
Maybe more, I don't know. There is no public document on the limits of upgrade.

My personal opinion is that you can try to improve with 60 GB HARD drive.
Is it not enough for this oldie?

  • What HARD drive max can I use satellite 3000 514

What is usable by the 3000-514 maximum capacity hard drive. It comes standard with 20 GB but I can't find anything online that gives this information.

    Hello

I m not 100% sure but to my knowledge the BIOS of Satellite 3000 supports a limitation of the HARD drive and you can only use the IDE 2.5 ", 9.5 mm HDD s up to 30 GB.
Seems that BIOS will not recognize large s 30 GB HARD drive!

I found this info somewhere in the internet. But you know the guy. These are only suggestions. If you wish, you can try any other disk HARD s i.e. 40 or 60 GB. It would be interesting to know if the HARD disk is running or not. Are you referring to the merchant of HARD drive if it of possible to test some HARD drive sizes!

If you have more information, please report it here! Thank you ;) see you later

  • What HARD drive max can I use for Satellite 2410-504

    Hello

I have a Toshiba 2410-504 P241E the 20 GB drive HARD is almost full, and I would like to buy another larger capacity disc to replace.
My question is what is the maximum capacity disc and what type of drive this machine will support?

Note: I have the latest version of the bios installed and the machine is running Win XP pro.

    Concerning

    Bob

    Hello

I think that the laptop supports an IDE HDD controller that supports only 28-bit LBA as suggested by resident. This means that the controller does support max 128 GB IDE hard drives.

Since ATA - 6 (Ultra DMA mode 5 or Ultra-ATA100) the 48-bit LBA is supported but I n t think that Sam 2410-504 was equipped with the ATA-6 controller and therefore, it seems that 120 GB (128 GB HARD drive not available) disk HARD is the maximum that could be used.

    See you soon

  • The maximum size of hard drive that can be used in an a6400f

I am installing a 2 TB hard drive in a computer a6400f, he said during the installation of Windows 7 windows cannot install with this hardware of computers.  The hard drive is recognized in the Bios.  I had an old 500 gig and windows installed without any problems.

I don't know how or when it has changed, but the problem was that, in the BIOS, the interface has been set to Raid and IDE not.  Why someone knew about it?

  • I erased from my hard drive and can not use Win 7

I tried to delete Grub/Ubuntu and eventually remove Win 7. At least it will not start. And if I use my repair disc, that's not restore my Win 7. I get an error in the hard drive is bad, or the MBR needs to be reset. I did it today. When I insurt my repair disc, need me toSystem back recovery opens. I tired the startup, no change repair. I tried the command prompt to reset the MBR. Unknown if changed or reset. 4 discs recovery cannot start, and if I use the recovery management it does not to click on any key. But the return to the System Recovery Options.

I have tried everything I know not taken to the place where I bought the computer and see if they can fix it. I don't know what else to try here. I think I made things worse as I went before trying to remove Ubuntu and Grub and install win 7 back. I don't know if I have double wall on the hard drive, or just Chantilly it clean of all hidden, and no hidden information.

Can anyone suggest how I could come back just by using Win 7. Some have suggested to do a full format of the drive. But I can't get on the hard drive to do. And I don't know if my repair records and Win 7 recovery does not start in any case. In order to get the system recovery option, I have to open the start menu and click on the DVD-ROM. The repair disk or the recovery disks will start or put a pressure on any key page before opening the repair disk, and the recovery disks will not yet be opened then. Any help would be greatly welcomed at this stage.

If you have your windows recovery disk and a Ubuntu live CD, boot from Ubuntu, open gparted and completely erase your HARD drive.

then turn the power off, insert your windows recovery disk, press F12 to start and choose to start form DVD and try to install. the disc of recovery need a HDD completely wiped to work (only simple raw data)

  • Which hard drive buy for my laptop Toshiba Satellite 15.6 "3 GB HD 320?

After receiving an error of 10-FA12 - 054D and do not recover my laptop to zone out, I believe that I have to buy a new hard drive.

Which hard drive buy for my laptop Toshiba Satellite 15.6 "3 GB HD 320?

You can check the Toshiba site for which specifications you need.  A general rule is to buy something at least two times greater than the one that failed, because the data use and therefore the space doubles every 18 months.

You may want to consider a large enough to allow you to make backups and store in another partition

  • Satellite A350-20 q - dead hard drive?

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite A350-20 q. There always work very well and I use it as my main computer. A week ago I fell asleep without turning off, and when I awoke in the morning, the system had frozen. I tried to make it respond with ctrl alt del and try to sleep, but he had completely locked up and nothing worked so I thought that I had no choice but to hold the power button until it turned off. Once I had rebooted the machine upward it started to load ok but once he had got up in front of loading with the Green scroll bar and on the Welcome screen first bells were ringing and then the hard drive starts clicking and cry, almost like a mixture of a 56 k modem and the rattling noise makes your drive hard when windows starts everything first up on the desktop.

Now, what I'm trying to get it to load it does the same thing. I tried many things are:

    -Just leave it starts normally

-From each safemode parameter it gives

    -Startup Repair

    - And where you press f8 and choose repair your computer.

They all get about 5 seconds to load anything to do with windows and crashed. Clicks last about a minute and then stop and ive left in each of these situations for about 20 minutes to see if it will charge eventually but it just stuck in the same place.

But what I want to know is, is the dead hard drive or can it be repaired with a new installation of windows. I read somewhere that the hard drives make these noises when they suffer "boot failure"? I can talk complete nonsense here I don't really know much about how to work hard disks and what it takes to get fixed.

I have a desktop pc and another PC toshiba laptop Equium which can be used to help recover the disk hard if it's possible or even necessary. I don't mind forking out for the recovery disk if I'm sure that his will solve the problem without losing all my data. I asked a guy on a market that had a pc repair saddles but he just said ' dead hard drive I sell you a new "and I had yet to explain everything I just said that he made strange noises so im guessing that he was trying to me con.

If theres anything I left out or any other questions, I can answer which may help to sort then I'll do my best to answer. I really don't want to lose all my data and I can't really afford to buy a new hard drive with Christmas coming ive just had our 400 pounds on getting my car fixed the fork and MOTed are therefore a bit tight at the moment so if I can fix it without having to spend any money then that would be perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and I hope that someone out there knows a solution to my problem.

    Ross.

    Hi Ross

To be honest, I also think that HARD drive is defective.

As a first step, you should check if there is a way to access all of your important data.
You can get 2.5 SATA HDD box and put it inside the HDD of your Satellite A350. Connect it to your other satellite and you will see if you will be lucky and have full access to the HARD disk. If so, back up all your data.

After having done that, put the HARD drive in your A350 and try installing the OS using original recovery image. I hope that you created the recovery DVDs. If the original image is unable to be installed this will be the sign that the HARD drive may be... you know what I mean.
You can also try is put this drive in satellite (if SATA HDD can be used here) and try to install the satellite image.

    Test a little.

If nothing helps, you buy new HARD drive. Check eBay. You'll find used 300 GB HDD for 30 or 40 euros. Hey this is not big investment and I think you can spend so much money.

  • Graphics card on Satellite M40-197 (PSM40E) does not work properly

    I have a portable Satellite M40-197 (PSM40E) with ATI Radeon X 300 graphics display.

The problem I have is when the laptop is turned on, until windows XP THAT starts, the screen is black as you would expect.

But there are also about 12 lines on the screen. Each line consists of (from top to bottom) 4 pixels of different colors. The rest of the screen is as you would expect.

Once Windows XP is running are several broken lines (color lines, depends on the color of office) through the screen at all levels up and down the screen.

I updated the BIOS of the laptop and installed the latest ATI drivers.
    This made no difference.

Anyone know if it is a faulty graphics card (is the adapter on the system board or it own map). Is it possible to update the graphics BIOS? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

This really sounds like a hardware problem, I had the same problem some time ago with my Satellite 5200 903. They said to the servicecenter
me, that the graphics card was defective and they replace. After replacing everything will work perfectly again.

Thus, it would be important that your platform to a local servicepartner for a hardwarecheckup.

Here´s a good place where you can find the nearest the servicepartner in your country:
