Satellite M40-237: CD Boot does not not + is possible startup USB key drive

* Model: Satellite M40-237 (PSM40E) *.

I decided to reinstall windows, my hard drive is now formatted. So as usual, boot from the Windows CD is necessary to start the instalation but it does not start. I never had problems like this, always worked boot. It's as if there is no bootable CD in the drive (but it is bootable and it works on another PC).

-J' have the latest version of the BIOS
-The BIOS detects the optical drive and everything is ok, HARD is the ODD main drive is secondary
-J' tried selecting the boot priority, with F12 and/or the BIOS setting but it works anyway

What could be the problem here? Drive does not properly (hopefully, that and not something worse)? I had some problems with the drive I have (...) before, but it reads the disc normally and as I said start was working fine before. I cleaned the lens a bit, disconnected it and it put. Is there something more, what can I do?

I'll try to find someone who has the player that fits so I can try with that one, but who knows when is what will be.

Now, here's the second question, which I've linked to this. Because my laptop is practically useless now (I can't install anything), is it possible to boot from a:
(a) optical drive USB external
(b) USB flash drive

BIOS on this laptop has no USB boot option, it has HARD drive / CD / floppy / network. But I red somewhere this FDD = USB legacy emulation is enabled.

If that is correct, I should just plug in the USB key and select FDD as boot option? If I can't find a USB optical drive, I thought make it bootable USB flash drive and copy the installation of windows xp on it. So once it starts in DOS I start just the installer from the key.

TNX

First I must say that the initialization of memory flash USB (USB key) is not possible and you shouldn't t waste time to try this.

With regard to your reader of CD/DVD boot problem
Well, it s really strange, it sounds a bit like a sort of master/slave/c-salt settings problem. But generally, you should get an error IDE (#0 or #1) if one of the devices (ODD or HARD disk) would not be recognized?  :|
This whole thing seems mysteriously
There may be a firmware issue

Several months ago a friend of mine was not able to boot from the CD.
He went into the BIOS and set the BIOS default settings.
This has contributed to

This is a suggestion, but I'm really putting t know if it helps.

    Hello everyone,

I have a Satellite M40-307 (PSM44E), and I had a problem with the utility "accessibility", which displays an icon in the notification bar of Windows XP, to inform the user if the "Fn" key is active or not.

This utility would not work for the administrator would not worry so much, because the administrator is supposed to know what he does. But the limited user doesn't have access, that bother anymore.

In Administrator, this utility works quite well. But during a session of limited user, if I try to launch it in [runas / user: admin "C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Windows Utilities\TACSPROP.exe"],
I am replied that the file TCMSVR. DLL is not found. If I launch normally, a message tells me that this utility requires that I am logged on as administrator.

So, what can I do to use this utility normally, i.e. in a limited user Sessiona? *

    Hello

Well, you should try to activate the rights for the TACSPROP.exe.
To do this, you must enter the operating system as an administrator.
Choose the application, right click. There is a Security tab. Here, you need to activate the permissions for all users.

  • Satellite, L9W Click-Mini-B does not start from the USB flash key

    I have a mini click L9W - B.

    * What I'm trying to boot from a bootable USB key.

I tried different sizes (1 GB to 32 GB), different manufacturers (without name and brand) different systems (for example. Linux distributions, rescue, antivirus, Acronis Rescue sticks), EFI sticks and non - EFI.
All USB keys to start correctly on my computer desktop and even with my other laptop.

    * The Mini Windows 8.1 updated, the current version 1.70, in the BIOS BIOS are Secure Boot and TPM , which I've also tried a variety of combinations. The stick will be recognized in the start menu, the name of the USB device is displayed.
I click on "USB", the Mini restarts, the reader is addressed (the LED flashes at the stick) is launched but not USB, but even once the HDD / SSD.

If Windows starts, the key works fine. It matters little that, two USB ports, I use, or if the docking station is connected or not.
If I restart Windows - settings - settings of PC - update / restore - restore - Enhanced start - use a device - try EFI USB Device, which is exactly the same thing happened.
    who can help?

I hope that there are German support. -Hopefully, there are German-language support.
If this isn't the case, please contact me.

I don't know what is the problem here, but it turns out that it is certainly possible to boot from the memory stick bootable USB flash.

Many users have been abele to boot from the memory stick USB external flash, but it is necessary to disable the secure in the BIOS boot option.
Also if you want to install an unsupported UEFI system, the boot mode must be changed of UEFI in the CSM.

  • If you like a challenge? Weird USB problem, he does not see my own USB key, but he sees another USB, but on other computers - it - see my USB key! P.S., Already tried a lot of solutions (unemployed). I'm an ITer.

    Hey there.

I have the weirdest problem ever. I have a computer that does not see my USB, other computers but do not see my USB.
Now, we tried another usb key (with usbstick I mean a ^_^ usb flash drive) and he DOES not see that stick! My own stick is a SANDISK Cruzer without U3, just ordinary storage 8gigs. None of the firmware see-as-CD. And the other was a different brand, but I don't remember.

I also tried to plug a very specific device (A P2000 keystrokes recorder, it is a device that recorded incidents, I work for the firedepartment/police/ambulance and it records events), but he doesn't know that aswell of device, as if it has never been plugged in (we have installed the correct drivers for it).

Now, I did some standard troubleshooting (check drivers, drivers of reupdating) and I removed all the usb drivers, restarted, drivers were back as usual, is not yet connect mine but it connects the other stick. My usb key works perfectly well with all computers but this one (same for the recorder to P2000), reupdated and installed, checked and stuff. Ports SHOULD work.

I would appreciate help! Thank you!

    P. S.
More info; It does not take into account the USB and connects anything, even the little blue light inside the usb key does not illuminate. Its as if she was never plugged on. The other has worked flawlessly on the same port, however. And my USB works on other computers. (Ditto for the P2000, but is not on the P2000.)

    P.S.S.

  • Help! -PDE-S3100 Bluray does not read My Passport USB hard drive.

My brand new BDP-S3100 works well with everything... except that it does not read my hard drive 1 TB passport. I know that the hard drive and cable are fine, because I can access and play movie files using my old LG Blu - ray player.

The player does not seem to recognize the drive, as it shows in the menu of the screen as "My Passport", but then it just keeps load information for minutes (I see progress in rotation of the icon), until it stops and shows nothing.

I checked, and the Sony player has the latest version of installed firmware.

    Any ideas? Thank you!

    Thanks for the reply.

In fact, I managed to solve the problem by unplugging the player for about 10 minutes (I should have tried this first)! After that, it will work very well and I was able to access the AVI files in my laptop hard drive.

    See you soon.

  • Satellite M40 - Teac DV-W28E does not burn CD or DVD

    G ' Day,.

I had problems with my dvd writer no longer works correctly when you try to burn cd or dvd. It is a Teac DV-W28E model and I would love to be able to get the drivers for it to reinstall, but I can't find them and when I try to do a web update he asks the CD. Looking at the Teac site there are no drivers for this particular dvd burner it. Looking at the Microsoft Web site for support... much less said about it the better.

I don't know if I uninstall the driver for my dvd, and then try to reinstall I'll be even able to do it on the net for the above reason to ask the installation cd.

Now I don't know if it's related, but I followed the Toshiba update for my BIOS earlier and as I had not even tried to burn anything for a while, I do not know if she had any questions before or after.

Generally, it is not recognizing the dvd as an engraver of dvd burner. If I drag and drop files to burn in Solution Explorer, then they do not appear to burn to a cd or dvd. When you try to use Nero v6.0.0, then it will crash at the end trying to write the last part of the file on the disk.

Anyone know how to help me save the environment by creating no more silver coasters / wind chimes / etc etc? Any ideas at all? I might just have to give up the cow and get a generic replacement as I began to need to burn for the backups to work and reports.

    TIA,

    Keiran

The CD/DVD drive uses no special driver.
It uses the drivers simply Microsoft Windows and the drive should be recognized automatically after removing.

If you have any problems with the writing on the CD/DVD, then I suppose it could be a hardware problem such as calibration target or something like that.

But first you have to check the different options that might be responsible for the failure of the burner
In the disc properties (right click-> properties), you can find the recording tab.
Here, you must enable the option activate the writing of CD on this drive if you use the drag and drop to burn files.

I also recommend using only burning on the operating system software.
Nero is a friendly software. I use it too

  • Satellite M40-129 BSOD and does not start correctly

    Hi again.

I was working on my computer since my last question, but (almost) nothing has changed.
    The problem:
My laptop is booting, but only on very rare occasions.
    What can happen:
-l' screen stays black (almost 50% of cases)
-L' splash screen (Toshiba - in touch with tomorrow) becomes visible and nothing happens then (40%)
    -Notepad starts "correctly" (10%)

If the notebook starts correctly there are 2 options:
1st: I try to start Windows: it crashes with a blue screen with the nice request an update of the BIOS.
2nd: I boot SuSe Linux: EVERYTHING WORKS!

I tried to update the BIOS the traditional way, although it is difficult to get it started it runs until shortly before the end and restart the computer.
I don't see any confirmation screen as Im used to.

What I assume, that the associated BIOS startup problem.

I read a method for recovering the BIOS with a floppy disk, where you copy the BIOS. ROM disk and start the computer with the disc.
My question is: is this also possible with a CD (have no floppy drive), if yes: how to proceed?

I wanted to give a point of service of Toshiba, but if they can't fix it, I always have to pay 50 euros. I have to pay money to get my BIOS restored, but the service seems to be just a "-delivery service" the real point of service and I would like to speak with a qualified person, first :)

    > I read a method for recovering the BIOS with a floppy disk, where you copy the BIOS. ROM disk and start the computer with the disc.
    > My question is: is it possible with a CD (have no floppy drive), if yes: how to proceed?

Hmm, you said that you have already received the traditional BIOS files from the ASP in your country. Then maybe you should take a look at this Toshiba document:

  • Satellite A30 does not start with the USB device connected at boot time

    Hello

I have a Satellite A30 and sometimes it does not start.
After turning on, not even the BIOS starts.
even if sometimes the BIOS starts, but the OS does not load.

I figured out that its related to USB devices connected at boot time.
If no USB devices are connected, it starts without a problem.
Even if the start-up is suspended, as soon as you unplug start it BIOS USB devices.
Its ok to connect USB devices later, once the system has started.
I disabled "removable devices boot" and "network startup."
just in case, but it makes no difference.

BIOS is version the most recent (1.70) and it comes up with all kinds of USB devices.
printer, mouse and (self-powered) external USB hard disk.

    Is this a known issue?
There is no known workaround solution?

    Hello

I put t know why this happens, but it has to do with the BIOS.
The same thing happened on my old laptop. I couldn't start my unit while the USB printer has been turned on and connected.
The only solution is to disconnect the external USB device during the boot process.

RSY you should check if the order of boot in the BIOS has been on the HARD drive first.

    Hello

Satellite M40 is about two years old and this laptop is not taken in charge of Vista. I guess this hood must be new BIOS for Vista installation. Unfortunately will not create new Toshiba Vista supported BIOS and all drivers for this model of laptop. :(

Computers laptops capable only Vista will be supported as far as I know.

My new Z930-118, with windows 7 64 bit home, does not recognize the external CD/DVD drive when I plug it into the USB port.

The CD/DVD device does not even appear at all in Device Manager.

The reader is a SE-S084 Samsun and works well on another laptop.

I already checked for the "upper_filter", "lower_filter" with the regedit, but entries are not there, so no help.

    Hello
I m not very well how to help you.

I found some information about this WEIRD disc and it seems that he didn't need an external power supply. Its USB bus powered so I guess around 500mA power since it is the default value provided by a USB 2.0 port.

I don t think that there is a problem of missing software. It is a plug n play device so you need to connect it to the USB port and the system should automatically recognise.

From my point of view of the few you try to connect the external USB ODD two ports to aid a * Y * Cableusb.
I think the reader needs more power provided by a single USB port.
