Satellite M40-256 - error starting by CD

Hello

a well known friend has Satellite M40-256, which Windows problem (error during the update and the manipulation of her children).

It does not have an external Toshiba FDD or ODD. This laptop is also no built-in floppy drive. Buying one for that matter? NO.
The boot priority has been changed: CD-network-HDD.

I tried another Toshiba no ODD (in BIOS not mentioned/found) of brand
The STRANGE original works/boots in another pc (via an adapter) very large.
I tried several CD/DVD to boot from (error is displayed): moment-Linux such as knoppix, suse and other windows CD, recovery CD,... without success

Each time the same result: the laptop has a black screen, the STRANGE is accelerating and after about 3 to 5 seconds, windows starts with the black progress bar.

I also tried to press C to force startup from the CD.
Some time previously, I had only access to windows in safe mode. But after uninstalling some updates, it ends with a license problem. This problem can be solved only by starting windows cd via cd.

It has a bios Toshiba 1.00 (interesting, seems old enough).
I'm trying at the moment to start the network. The Toshiba shows some messages regarding success/failure at startup via the network or a CD?

Defined execution bit one influence on behavior?
Does anyone know a solution to windows startup?

Thanks in advance

Check the instructions posted by Akuma.

If it doesn t work I think that the CD/DVD drive is faulty and must be replaced. Contact the nearest ASP that you can find on the Toshiba site and ask for a replacement.
It of important that you buy a disc that is compatible with the laptop but the ASP that will.

Good luck!

Do I try to get into the Satellite M40 product Recovery DVD-ROM - this concern for me as the hard drive will be reformatted and all data will be lost.

    I'm stuck please help!

    Hello!

If you enter the product recovery disc, Windows will be relocated and will be erasing all data on the HARD drive.

I think that your HARD drive is damaged. You can check this with the Drive Fitness Test. Here you can download:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

By the way: you can save the data on the HARD drive, when you put it in a box external HARD disk. Then you can save the data on another PC, if the HARD drive is ok and have no errors.

  • Satellite M40-244 - cannot start from CD after driver change

    Hi all

I have a Satellite M40-244 and the original DVD drive is faulty. So I changed the drive with one that is exactly the same (same brand, same date of manufacture).

Under Windows, the new disk is recognized and works perfectly. However, when I try to boot from the CD, I am not able to do. I successfully changed the boot sequence in the bios, I tried all possible combinations without success.

One thing I remember is that when I tried to boot from the faulty driver, I got the message 'Not bootable CD' (the tested CD is bootable and tested on other computers)

Any idea anyone, I desperately need to install a new OS. :-(

I doubt that you can boot from CD t if your drive works properly in Windows...
You can try another disc of starting, for example the Toshiba recovery disc or the disc from Microsoft, please?

  • Satellite M40 does not start

I have several problems with my Satellite M40-149.
When to stop crashes on a blue screen.

Almost impossible to start. After a few shakes and if its my llucky day, it starts, but in most cases crashes to the Toshiba logo "in touch with tomorrow" with the four symbols for hd, cd, floppy and script. I did all the tests, I could find, there is no virus, the hd is ok (I tried several) and after successfully
start the screen looks ok to me.

I even tried Linux on another with almost the same results, very difficult to start.
Is there another test, I could do (except the Toshiba test)?

Any suggestions on where to find are welcome!
    dimlog

    Hi dimlog.

This seems a bit strange as a hardware problem. I can t imagine it has something to do with the software, for example. If the computer laptop doesn't boot correctly and freezes on the screen Toshiba (BIOS screen) something wrong with the hardware.

I m not a technician but maybe the motherboard is the reason for this. But to make sure that it is the cause of the laptop should be checked by a technician of the laptop.

If you can fix it yourself, also have a look on eBay for second-hand parts they are cheaper as new parts.

    Good luck!

  • Re: CDrom on Satellite M40 will not start

    Hi all

My cdrom on Satellite M40-142 drive won't start!
If I choose to boot from the dvd/cdrom, always my laptop boot from the disk. In my view, is a bios problem. Is it possible to reinstall my BIOS?

    Thank you very much

    Mario

    Hello

    > my m40-142 cdrom drive won't start!
    > If I choose to boot from the dvd/cdrom, always my laptop boot from the disk

    The possible reasons:

    1. it does not work. Is it read cd/dvd discs when you insert the?
    2. the cd/dvd disc you insert (ithink, you're talking about windows disk) not bootable.

    > . In my view, is a bios problem. Is it possible to reinstall my BIOS?

Yes, you should check for Bios on the Toshiba driver page:

  • Satellite M40-133: problem starting after a stop

When my Satellite M40 - 133 EN if I start it again all that I get is the Toshiba welcome screen.
If it is left for a while it will start as usual. When executing it is quite hot.

    Help, please.

To me, this looks like a problem with overheating.
It seems that the laptop can not start and start properly due to high internal temperature.

The main reason why an overheating problem is very simple.
Don t cooling modules work correctly. In my view, that dust and debris prevent cooling with maximum performance running fans.

Simply cleaning fan should help you.
From time to time, I clean my fans too. I use a jet of compressed air. These sprays are very useful to get rid of dust and most computer/computer laptop dealers offer these sprays.

If it will not improve the situation, then a mobile technician needs to disassemble the laptop and recommended to clean properly. In addition, it should renew the thermal grease that is placed between the CPU and the cooling module, too.

    Good luck

  • Satellite A200-1RK error starting upwards

    Hello

I hope someone can help me.

I'm not very skilled when it comes to technology please bare with me. My mother has a laptop Toshiba Satellite A200-1RK whom she had for a few years now. She recently dropped it and when she turn back comes up with an error message saying "windows did not start, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause" then it gives you 2 options, 1 is a recommended recovery option and the other just trying it to load windows.

I tried both and they come just with the windows loading screen and doesn't progress t from there. Anyone got any advice on how this could be repaired. My mom has a lot of pictures that she didn't get round to the backup to the hard drive and you can understand what is important to her. Perhaps this is a case that something has been knocked out of place when she dropped him, I do not know Mr. should I consider in a store to get fixed? I put just t like going to these places if I don't have to because I am very little knowledge about the jargon of techno etc.

    Thank you.

  • Satellite M40 - 129 stops starting after the Toshiba screen

    Hello
My M40 continues sometimes to start after the Toshiba screen. He stops and all I see is the blinking cursor. No Error Message or something else and normal boot from the HARD drive. Boot from CD (for example. Œuvres of Knoppix). This problem sometimes occurs and traceable for me isn´t.

    Best regards
    Spoony

    Hey Spoony

Unfortunately on this path, it is not easy to say why this is happening. Each user has a specific configuration OS and we don t know how your operating system is configured.

You can boot OS in safe mode? If Yes check what the problem may be a little. If there is anything you can do I recommend you save all your data and preinstall unit using rescue media. If you do this I recommend also to create two partitions.

Don t compare WXP and Linux startup procedure. As you know that Knoppix using just the RAM and no HARD drive for the race.

    Start Windows normally

These two options do not work. In addition, Windows cannot enter Safe Mode. I live in Belgium and I don't know what to do. I will try with windows 7 installation disc a friend (from Dell laptops) or should I contact Toshiba?

  • Satellite M40 - start and stop issue

    Hello

I have a problem with my laptop Satellite M40 on stop to the low process sometimes also on windows start and I think it's BIOS associates.

When I start my laptop, sometimes (not always) I get an error message in a blue screen saying that my BIOS is not fully ACPI-compatible... I reboot, and if I wait a while, the system boots normally, but if I just restart immediately, he'll get the same message.
It happens sometimes that the computer goes further opening in the black screen message: contact tomorrow: toshiba

The other problem, I don't know if it of related or not, is that the computer is not shut down or restart. I have to do it by pressing the button for a while. I thought it was an application that I had in my system that was the cause, but I have just formatted the hard drive and the same mistakes are still ongoing...

When it stops, it stops right on the message: 'Windows is shutting down... ". »

I updated my BIOS with the new available for download here to toshiba support, and I think it was the trigger for all these problems... now I don't know how to go back, or even if it's the reason.
I really hope someone here can help me, because I just wanted all the information related to the internet without success.

    Thank you!

    Hello

Satellite M40 is well-known for me because one of my friends has one at home. Laptop very nice.

So, what can I say? It's really not easy to say what the problem is here, but if you use Windows XP Home edition for a long time, it can happen that one day to happen strange things. I believe that no one here can say with certainty what the problem with your machine.

If possible, you should clean OS installation using recovery media delivered. After doing this, you should see what is happening. In this case, no one can say that there are programs that have bad influence on the execution of the operating system.

  • How do I start bluetooth on Satellite M40-184

    Hello
I bought a new Satellite M40 and I found that I have the Bluetooth Manager, but it does not show me the that Bluetooth at all besides it still gives me the message "Bluetooth device is not ready" even when my bluetooth is turned on! Kindly let me know how to solve this problem, as I have been through the whole pages of starting Instructions and possible help, but nothing seems to work. Thanx

    Imran

    Hello Imran

It will be interesting to know what unit should be connected to your device (mobile phone, printer). I hope that use you the FN + F8 key combination to activate the Bluetooth connection. If the Bluetooth connection is enabled you can start a wizard and search for other Bluetooth devices.

  • Cannot start up satellite M40 136

    Hello

I have a Satellite M40 136 2.5 years old. I used it yesterday and then closed the lid then it shut down as usual. About half an hour later, I realized that I had to check a file so I opened the lid and normally he would back automatically, but it didn't. I pressed the button, which is surrounded by an LED, I think than orange means it's pending otherwise it is blue.

When I pressed on it, he showed the light orange for about 2 seconds and then nothing for 5 seconds and then blue for 5 seconds. For these last 5 seconds the machine looks like it, he's trying to start, but then it off immediately. I tried and tried again, but it does the same thing. I tried to use the power cable. I managed to put the recovery DVDs during the 5 seconds, the blue light is on and I press the 'C' button, but it does not work.

Does anyone have an idea on what I can do to get the machine to boot?

    Nicky

Plug the laptop! Remove the battery and the AC adapter.
Then wait about 30 min, then insert the battery and connect the AC to the laptop.
    Check if the mobile feed.

If this isn't the case,-> contact ASP (certified partner) in your country, because the strange behavior of cell phone looks like a serious problem that cannot be solved by a common user!

    Good bye

  • Problem starting Satellite M40 - windows didn't start up properly

Satellite M40 running XP Home, an 80 GB HD, 2 partitions, (System on C:, data on D :)

During bootup, current sector has been disconnected (no battery in the laptop). When I try to start it again, go to the screen (sorry for the "mixed-language french English"...) «windows didn't start properly... Please select 'safe mode', "safe mode with LAN enabled", "BACK Safe Mode", 'last known good configuration' or 'normal startup' (I'm simplifying the content of the screen...).»

Regardless of the choice that I do, XP starts to run, then I get a blue screen flashes briefly (too fast to be able to read what whatsoever) and the process begins again.

I can access the BIOS and were able to boot from a CD.
Thank you anyone give me some guidance as to the possible problem (as well as a possible solution that could avoid having to completely restore the system and... to reinstall all apps)

    Hello

Seems the BSOD appears and the laptop operating system cannot start as should!
The BSOD appears especially because of the hardware or software serious malfunction.
First we need to find if its hardware or software related problem.

Installation simply from the recovery CD is a simpler way to find out what could be wrong
You must format the first partition C, where the old operating system has been installed and install the new OS on the C.

  • Satellite M40: Errors graphics when you change the screen resolution

    Hello
    I have a Satellite M40 and a big problem.

    Windows xp pro sp2:

I see only scratches and only a reboot can run back (or suspend-to-disk).

the laptop screen is full of lines and the 2nd monitor shows what the laptop screen should normally display also

    Hello

There may be something wrong with the screen of laptop computers.
I guess that the graphics card is ok because the external screen works properly.

But it s very interesting to know if you are using the graphics driver from Toshiba. If this isn't the case, please check if this problem also appears after installation of the graphics driver from the Toshiba driver page.

  • Satellite M40 with frequent "ati2dvag.dll' errors

My Satellite M40 with ATI X600SE works fine until I decided to install games in there. If I play at resolutions of 1024 x 768 or more, the laptop frequently to stop, the display shows "a picture" of what I was watching before the crash. Sometimes, the audio comes on for a few seconds, then stops too. I only do a manual restart.

Sometimes I'm able to go back to windows as soon as the pc seems to stop, and I can see a message stating «the driver ati2dvag.dll has stopped working...» "or something similar.

I have reistalled the ATI drivers really many times: nothing; I've done several systems for: nothing.

Finally, I decided to install the Omega Drivers for ATI: the only thing that I get with this is that the PC crashes Anyway, but after 8-10 seconds it automatically begins to work without restarting the system.

In any case, this problem is really frustrating. In view of the foregoing, I really think it's a hardware problem.
I've seen many people having this problem with ATIgraphics-laptops in this forum (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=9209&messageID=32072#32072) and outdoors (http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/31775/?o=0).
Could this be a problem of overheating of the graphics card?

What can I do? Give it to help to fix it? Someone in internet forums finished, change the graphics card, others the card mother (!).

Finally, sorry for my bad English...

    Hello

I understand you very well. These problems are very frustrating and make crazy.
But you must use the graphics drivers from Toshiba. These drivers are designed specially for Toshiba laptops and they are a little differently.
Graphic drivers of Toshiba control the performance of graphics cards because of overheating problems. In this case, other drivers from manufacturer s can damage the graphics card because they are not designed for the use of the laptop.

Well, I recommend to check other Toshiba laptops with the same graphics card and try to use this driver.

    Good bye
