Satellite M40-313 and Vista

Hello

I m a surfer of money with a counter top, but my 22 year old daughter, as recently bought it a second hand Toshiba Satellite M40 313, now she wanted to put Windows Vista Ultimate OS on it, I had my doubts, so I increased the RAM to 2gbs and gave it a try, it seems to work very well, he's a bit slow , after a couple of days a week and after several software maybe init started acting a bit erratic.

Question is the will of the hold of the laptop operating system or would it be wise to low-grade it back.

Yes, you must reinstall WXP. There are several reasons for this. My friends has the same model of laptop and it works well with Windows XP Home edition.
So, this former model of laptop is designed for Windows XP Home edition and Toshiba offers no Vista support for this model of laptop. This means that there are no drivers or tools or utilities available. You will never be able to set up well with Vista.

Install WXP using recovery delivered image or install your own WXP and all drivers, tools and utilities. You can find them on the Toshiba support page. In my view, it must be some leaves in ARCHIVES.

If you need more help with installing Windows XP edition family thanks for posting again.

    Hello: o).

I have a SATELLITE M40-313, and I also have the serial number for the family XP Edition version
Toshiba. But I don't have the cd that can restore / reinstall the system. A normal Xp Home
version won't, because he's going to say that the series is invalid. So I need to get my hands on
a version of Xp that will focus on this system. And I live in the UK, but in Poland, Gdansk.

Sombody on ther so know what I should do to get this computer back in shape?

    Thank you so mutch!
    : o).

    > A normal XP Home Edition version won't, because he's going to say that the series is not valid

You must use the Toshiba Recovery disk or the original disc of Microsoft Win XP with a clean serial key! You cannot use a version of Win XP as part of the serial key you found at the bottom of the unit that this key belongs to the OEM version pre-installed on laptop and will not work with any other version of Win XP.

Since the M40 is an older model mobile phone, you will not be able to order recovery of disk he abandoned s
Therefore, use a clean WIN XP CD. The Toshiba drivers are placed to the driver page

  • Peripheral USB do not work correctly on the Satellite M40 313

I have a Satellite M40 313 I bought there are about 1 1/2 years and have had some problems with.

However, I recently bought a Canon S3 IS and a Buffalo portable HD here in Japan, where I currently work.
These two devices do not work with my computer.

Attach the HD produced the message that this device will work better with a USB 2.0 high speed Port, before XP decides that the HD is actually a keyboard HID device! The camera mount, for which I had installed the software provided, will produce a message that suggests that I have install usbscan.sys file and forces me to use a driver of generic digital camera that does not work with the Canon camera.
I fetch the requested file, but it made no difference...

It seems that it is a problem of USB, and I also noticed that some of my friends devices USB do not work well with my computer.

In this case, what is the best way to update my software so its compatible USB? Have I been dismantled down to the USB 1.1 version by WIndows at any given time? The pilot on the hub root 5.1.2600.2180 and is dated 07/01/2001.

    Any suggestion is appreciated.

    Hello

Perhaps a biosupdate could help you? I mean it s do not know if is it a hardware problem or software, so that you can first try to check if it s a software linked history by:
    1.), updated the Bios
2.) recover the system with the recovery cd (backup your data first!  ;))
3.) install the latest drivers (do not install MS updates or patches, sometimes they cause errors)

If you have no success after completing these steps, and then give a few comments.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M40-313 is dead and no longer turns

    Hi all

I have an old Sat M40-313, which worked fine for the last 3 years +.
This morning, I found he was dead and would not turn back on. I tried the obvious things (I was a service engineer for many years in the 1980s on things like the PDP series, so some experience) as switching power supplies (I have had to change the diet before the summer that the cable was doubtful but kept the old one, in the case), but still could not climb.

While I had a little browse (on another machine) to see if I could find some free hints, let him he connected with most recent feeding. When I went past, I noticed on the power lights. He started, but has lasted only a minute or two before dying again. Leave it plugged an hour gave me several minutes of use. I went to control panel | Power and had a look at the power indicator. He told me that he was in charge, but I noticed that the level fell. So obviously, the current will out of the battery faster going. He went from 11% to 7% after about three minutes, so I turned it off again.

The most recent feeding is a vanilla object that I have purchased from PC City and is the original battery. Anyone have an idea how I can eliminate one of the possibilities of the equation, please? I don't want to buy a new battery if the problem is the power supply, and vice versa, so all advice is welcome.

Don't know how passed under the original subject line, so changed it back. Hey ho

    Hello

    You can very easily check.

The laptop turns on if you connect the power adapter on the laptop (without battery connected)?
If so, the adapter is ok and supplying power to the laptop.

    You need more instructions?

  • Satellite M40-225 and PCMCIA Vista driver

I have lost my original for my M40 discs so bought a copy of Vista to install on my computer, when I install everything first that the computer would not start so I searched on the internet and it seems that there is a conflict with the PCMCIA and Vista drivers. I followed the advice on the forum, and managed to get vista to load by removing all files related to the PCMCIA drivers.

Vista is in charge now, but I am unable to find updated drivers for the PCMCIA location running. I use this port for my Wi - Fi has inside it was very slow with my router. I tried to download the drivers for Toshiba but there not those of Vista. I reinstalled the original but they still don t work although Vista is in charge now. Does anyone know a solution to my problem?

    Thanks Steve

    Hello

First the M4 I put t understand why there is a conflict between the PCMCIA and Vista drivers!
The drivers are included in the Vista operating system so how did you remove these drivers and how did you install Vista on this laptop?

In addition, the phone supports PC card and you can use the R2.01 PCMCIA, PC Card 16 (multifunction cards) and 32-bit PCMCIA cards. The BIOS determines this slot machine.

Maybe you have updated the BIOS before installing Vista on this unit!

  • Satellite M40-129 and drivers Win7

    Hello

I just installed Win7 on my Toshiba Satellite M40-129. It was really hard... Windows refuses to complete the installation until I deleted pcmcia.sys in the windows system folder.

Now I have the problem that my pcmcia cardbus is working nor my SD card reader. As soon as I ask for Win7 to update driver PCMCIA, the doesn´t of the computer unbootable until I have again to remove pcmcia.sys.

Now my question: I can live with having one for not working the PCMCIA port, but there all the drivers available for windows 7 and the Cardbus SD?

    Thank you very much.

    Technohead

This old Satellite is not supported for Win7 and you won't find any driver for it. It is not easy to configure the hardware on these old books but Win7 has good drivers base and, after several Microsoft updates most of the equipment must be installed correctly.

What you can try is to try to install the driver designed for another model of laptop. Perhaps satellite A100 or Satellite A200. I put t know if this will help but you can test it in any case.

  • Satellite M40 - start and stop issue

    Hello

I have a problem with my laptop Satellite M40 on stop to the low process sometimes also on windows start and I think it's BIOS associates.

When I start my laptop, sometimes (not always) I get an error message in a blue screen saying that my BIOS is not fully ACPI-compatible... I reboot, and if I wait a while, the system boots normally, but if I just restart immediately, he'll get the same message.
It happens sometimes that the computer goes further opening in the black screen message: contact tomorrow: toshiba

The other problem, I don't know if it of related or not, is that the computer is not shut down or restart. I have to do it by pressing the button for a while. I thought it was an application that I had in my system that was the cause, but I have just formatted the hard drive and the same mistakes are still ongoing...

When it stops, it stops right on the message: 'Windows is shutting down... ". »

I updated my BIOS with the new available for download here to toshiba support, and I think it was the trigger for all these problems... now I don't know how to go back, or even if it's the reason.
I really hope someone here can help me, because I just wanted all the information related to the internet without success.

    Thank you!

    Hello

Satellite M40 is well-known for me because one of my friends has one at home. Laptop very nice.

So, what can I say? It's really not easy to say what the problem is here, but if you use Windows XP Home edition for a long time, it can happen that one day to happen strange things. I believe that no one here can say with certainty what the problem with your machine.

If possible, you should clean OS installation using recovery media delivered. After doing this, you should see what is happening. In this case, no one can say that there are programs that have bad influence on the execution of the operating system.

  • Satellite M40 - format and install NO CD from recovery

    Hello
I need to format the hard drive and install XP Pro SP2 on my Satellite M40 - 239 (pre installed XP HE). How do we install the Express Media Player? Do I need to do before installing with my own XP disks? The Express Media recovery disk reformat the hard disk and let me choose the size of the partition etc.? Or should I first install XP SP2 (not from the recovery disk, it is my own), then the media player? And how do I install all of the tools supplied preinstalled in the factory? On the product recovery disc, it seems there is no installation of software for them, am I stuck with XP it if I want to keep the tools (Bluetooth, ConfigFree etc.)?

    Hello

Well, the drivers needed on the Toshiba page you will find:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Please also check out this other post:

    On the express media player:

Should at least 150-200 MB of available free space on the HARD drive.
This free space must be on the end of the HARD drive and there must be unallocated.
To get this space available on party products 3rd HARD drive must be used.

  • Satellite A100 (PSAA9A) and Vista DVD maker problem

I just got windows ultimate on my laptop that I got about 2 and a half years and he says about this Windows Vista capable. So I have to drop out and everything but when I open something like Vista DVD maker, he says that my video card meets the minimum requirements.

Check my driver and it says Standard VGA graphics card? Strange huh? So went on Notebook driver downloads > Satellite > A100 (PSAA9), but then he only gave me the opportunity to PSAA9E and I need A at the end.

In any case I put t know whether or not that counts, but I downloaded the driver and check the update driver > Browse pilot, first of all it only let me not click Desktop and didn t let me inside the office even with submenu.

So I just clicked next and guess what! After all that palaver he said the pilot has the last updated and doesn t need to be installed but it obviously hasn't t because it's model is something starting with 6 and the driver Vista I want download it something starting with 7, so I'm really stuck and really help.

    Thank you

    Hello

At the bottom of the unit, you should find the name of detailed; something like Satellite A100 - xxx PSA.

Could you please post this number and name?

The A100 is certainly capable of Vista, but this does not mean that you can use all the features of Vista.
My other laptop manufacturer is Vista capable, but for example the doesn t run Vista Aero due to the performance of the weak graphics card.

Creating Windows DVD is available in Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition, but some features may require advanced or additional hardware.

    Check this box:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/dvdmaker.mspx

In any case, the graphics driver on the right must be installed to ensure that such feature Vista can run correctly.

  • Satellite Pro L10 and Vista compatibility

    Hi all.

Being a 3rd year computer science student I feel like I should be able to answer this myself, but since this is a laptop and not a desktop computer, I'm stumped.

I'm looking to upgrade to Windows Vista when it launches and I ran the compatibility for her Wizard and its lifting to the top a major - the graphics card. Now, I know that it is not possible to switch from a graphics card on a computer laptop because its actually on the motherboard itself, but it says that my Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller has 64 MB of memory and requires 128 mb.

So here's my question - is - a can move the memory associated / assigned to this card?

In addition, he said that it must have the support of 32 bit / pixel which once again is not my card. An update of the driver would help or should I resign myself to the fact that Windows Vista won't be compatible with my laptop.

    Bravo guys,.

    Scott

    Hello

The fact is that this card was delivered with a 64 MB shared memory graphics card.
This is a maximum value of the memory that the card can manage.
I wonder every day on the question about Windows Vista and compatibility issues. The fact is that Windows Vista is not official on the market.
I'm sure that Toshiba will support the Vista in the future, but right now, there is no drivers Toshiba for this OS.

  • Satellite M40-313 (PSM44E) limited or no connectivity LAN wireless

I have always been connected to our home wireless network and the connection within the House is still ok, but after the restoration of my factory settings I came to only get limited or no connectivity.
After a problem with my DCOM Server process Launcher I find completely my laptop, not I can recognoise our network but cannot use internet or access files, after a friend recommended I update my Atheros wireless driver I did, but it has not changed anything.

Is that what I can do to fix this problem without having to pay someone or buy a new laptop?

    Thanks much for any help.

    Karen

Have you tried to turn turn off the firewall and other security software?

Also try to use a static IP instead of DHCP and enable file sharing.

  • Satellite M40-184 and noise problem

I bought two days ago, this laptop and I already found two problems. The first is that always before the speakers seem to start working a strange noise (ICT) and it is very annoying for me. Is there a problem with the speakers.

The second problem is that when I use the laptop for more than two hours the AC adapter also makes a very annoying noise. He is also very strong (more strong that fans or anything else). Is it normal to do what noise?

    Thank you

    Hi Manos,

I'm not sure of the sound from your speakers, normally I wait till they're totally calm, unless a job is running that use.

Regarding your power adapter, should make any noise at all. It can become hot for what is quite normal. I would recommend the adapter/notebook back to your provider as soon as possible.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite M40-313 USB question

    Hello
I bought the laptop that precedes the last week and I have a terrible problem with the USB ports. I connect a standard USB device such as mouse, printer, scanner etc. and everything is ok. I bought an external hard drive that is USB 2.0 and have also an old 40 GB USB 2.0 external hard drive and I can't get to be recognized by the laptop. If I plug the external sources on a PC, they are recorded immediately and work without any problem. I disabled all the USB root hubs so that the laptop can not stop devices to save energy but still the same thing.

    Can someone help me please?

    Thank you.

    Hello

The USB ports provide 500mA. It is a standard value. If the external USB device needs more than 500mA then, the operating system can not recognize this device.
I recommend using a USB hub with external power supply. This should solve the problem.

  • Graphics - Satellite A100-313 card problem stops itself

    I have a satellite A100-313 and I use vista.
Every time when I'm playing games, the laptop turns off after a while. It varies, normally have 10-20 minutes of play.
And when I immediately turn on again, I get a black screen, but the computer is running. I have to wait a bit to get back to the screen to work.
So, he goes to the top and goes to 1024 x 764 resolution (the native resolution is 1280).

I guess it's a problem of graphics card (I have a Geforce Go 7600). I have already updated to the latest vista drivers available on the Toshiba site (the September).

What can I do to fix this? Automatic shutdown normally only happens when I play games.
    Any help is appreciated.

    HM, delicate sounds.
    I suggest the following:

Download the latest bios for your machine on the toshiba download site:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp

And finally and most importantly, check if your cooling system of your machine is not clobbed with dust. You can clean it with a can with compressed air to remove dust from the fan and the heatpipe fin.

If you have any questions, just ask.

    Have a nice weekend

  • Satellite M40-244 - cannot start from CD after driver change

    Hi all

I have a Satellite M40-244 and the original DVD drive is faulty. So I changed the drive with one that is exactly the same (same brand, same date of manufacture).

Under Windows, the new disk is recognized and works perfectly. However, when I try to boot from the CD, I am not able to do. I successfully changed the boot sequence in the bios, I tried all possible combinations without success.

One thing I remember is that when I tried to boot from the faulty driver, I got the message 'Not bootable CD' (the tested CD is bootable and tested on other computers)

Any idea anyone, I desperately need to install a new OS. :-(

    Hello

I doubt that you can boot from CD t if your drive works properly in Windows...
You can try another disc of starting, for example the Toshiba recovery disc or the disc from Microsoft, please?

Alternative try to load the default settings in the BIOS.

    Good luck! :)
