Satellite M40: graphics performance unexpectedly decreased

Hello

Some time ago, I noticed that the graphics performance of my M40 was unexpectedly decrased about 50% (comparing the scores of "3D Mark").
I have not installed any software that could affect on it.

Nevertheless, I reinstalled the system, but do not see any improvement.

Can it be related to physical damage?

Hello

Different brand 3D provides different results.
Did you test your laptop with the same application?

How about the temperature of the CPU? Maybe the laptop runs with dynamic CPU frequency mode.
If the cooling modules can operate in full capacity because of the dust debris of the CPU reduces the frequent and doesn t run at high level.

You can change the dynamic mode of frequent CPU dynamically switchable to always top.
You may notice some positive improvements.

Greetings

    Hello

There may be something wrong with the screen of laptop computers.
I guess that the graphics card is ok because the external screen works properly.

But it s very interesting to know if you are using the graphics driver from Toshiba. If this isn't the case, please check if this problem also appears after installation of the graphics driver from the Toshiba driver page.

  • Can satellite M40-231 - I upgrade the GPU (graphics card)?

    Hi all

My Satellite M40-231 has an ATI Mobility Radeon X 600 SE and I would like to upgrade to deal with the demands of today's games, but also a new HARD drive, but the latter, I think that I can go as far as the 120 GB HARD drive.

    SUGESTIONS are welcome.

    TKS

Sorry, buddy, but this is not possible!
There are several discussions about upgrading the GPU on mobile phones and all the threads said the same thing that's not possible.

The point is that most graphic cards chips are outside the motherboard and cannot be deleted.
You must understand that technology for portable computers is not the same thing as the technology of desktop PCs and more upgrades are not possible.

Which could be upgraded are the memory modules and HARD drive.

    See you soon

I have laptop Toshiba Satellite M40 series.
My vga card is becoming old, so I need to upgrade and I was wondering what I can?

Unfortunately, you can't move the graphics chip because it s attached to the motherboard.

  • Graphics card on Satellite M40-197 (PSM40E) does not work properly

    I have a portable Satellite M40-197 (PSM40E) with ATI Radeon X 300 graphics display.

The problem I have is when the laptop is turned on, until windows XP THAT starts, the screen is black as you would expect.

But there are also about 12 lines on the screen. Each line consists of (from top to bottom) 4 pixels of different colors. The rest of the screen is as you would expect.

Once Windows XP is running are several broken lines (color lines, depends on the color of office) through the screen at all levels up and down the screen.

I updated the BIOS of the laptop and installed the latest ATI drivers.
    This made no difference.

Anyone know if it is a faulty graphics card (is the adapter on the system board or it own map). Is it possible to update the graphics BIOS? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

This really sounds like a hardware problem, I had the same problem some time ago with my Satellite 5200 903. They said to the servicecenter
me, that the graphics card was defective and they replace. After replacing everything will work perfectly again.

Thus, it would be important that your platform to a local servicepartner for a hardwarecheckup.

Here´s a good place where you can find the nearest the servicepartner in your country:

    Hello

For WLAN and WIFI configuration you can use the Windows settings. In this case, under connection WLAN properties, you will find an option called display the icon in the tray... when it is connected you can see a small symbol shows the power of the signal.

While you can do if you use the Intel wireless client. If you n t have one that I recommend you visit the Toshiba WLAN website under http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/

You can find the most recent driver for your WLAN card including customer Intel wireless that allows you full control of your home network. Install this client and you'll get what you want.

  • Improve the performance of the Satellite L300 graphics software and games-Vista

After the first post on how I was disappointed with Toshiba L300, I found a solution for his performance on the use of software such as Photoshop, Corel and games like Warcraft III, NFS Pro Street, Titan Quest, Devil May Cry and so on. This tweak was found on another forum and was modded with the new driver of Intel and Toshiba L300.

I would like to share with you all so that you can be happier with your product. This can be applied to other * X 3100 * computers:

    * Steps: *.

    1. download the latest driver from Intel (at the moment it is 15, 9 - 7.14.10.1472 at the link: [http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2800&OS FullName = Windows Vista + * + 32 & lang = eng & strOSs = 164 & sub mit = GB 21%])

2 extract the file somewhere on your hard drive.

3 install the driver manually from the Device Manager (we can not update automatically as there are problems between the pilot back to Toshiba and this)

4 Download this registry key to link: [http://www.mediafire.com/?4cejjqbmlm5] on your hard drive

    5. open this file with * Notepad *.

    6. research * game1.exe*

    7. you will see 4 lines, that I created. Replace the two * game1.exe* by the name of the Executive program, you want to give
-For example: I want to improve performance for WarcraftIII, replace * game1.exe* by * warcraftIII.exe*

    8. add more software that require high graphics performance by adding a line more with * "_software.exe" = dword:00000001 * and * "~software.exe"=dword:00000001*

    9. save the file and apply the registry key by double-clicking on it. (Right of the administrator is required)

9 turn on the software, and you will see that it will work better than before.

I na? don't know if this has been posted here or not but hope that it is useful for the x 3100 and Vista users

I'm happy to answer any questions. If you find the best methods, please share.

    Best wishes.

  • On Satellite M40-223 some games make the display freeze

    Hello
    I have a Satellite M40-223 with an Ati Radeon X 600 is.
Some games (such as shockwave, world of warcraft games or never)
Winter Nights 2) make freeze display and the crash of the laptop

has changed. Then I downloaded the latest drivers from the ati site
    (http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/) and removed the older
(following the instructions of ati). The display freezes always but
Sometimes the VPU recover the previous session.
    What should I do?
I will try to uninstall these drivers and install the ones toshiba
Once again? When I installed the drivers from toshiba for the first
I did use uninstaller first, time could this affect the most recent configuration?

I will try to use the omega drivers?

    Best regards

    Laura

    Hello

It s not advised not to use the graphics driver from Toshiba. The other drivers don't support the overheating protection. The games are a high performance programs. If these applications are running on the laptop all devices must operate with maximum performance and produce a lot of heat. The high temperature could be responsible for this gel and close downs.

I read in the forum that you can install the other drivers (not Toshiba) at your own risk.
I think you should check the fans for dust and debris.
Sometimes the cooling modules may not cool properly because the dust and, therefore, these problems occur.
Additional do not forget that there is enough free space around the laptop to the airflow correctly

  • Satellite M40 with frequent "ati2dvag.dll' errors

My Satellite M40 with ATI X600SE works fine until I decided to install games in there. If I play at resolutions of 1024 x 768 or more, the laptop frequently to stop, the display shows "a picture" of what I was watching before the crash. Sometimes, the audio comes on for a few seconds, then stops too. I only do a manual restart.

Sometimes I'm able to go back to windows as soon as the pc seems to stop, and I can see a message stating «the driver ati2dvag.dll has stopped working...» "or something similar.

I have reistalled the ATI drivers really many times: nothing; I've done several systems for: nothing.

Finally, I decided to install the Omega Drivers for ATI: the only thing that I get with this is that the PC crashes Anyway, but after 8-10 seconds it automatically begins to work without restarting the system.

In any case, this problem is really frustrating. In view of the foregoing, I really think it's a hardware problem.
I've seen many people having this problem with ATIgraphics-laptops in this forum (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=9209&messageID=32072#32072) and outdoors (http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/31775/?o=0).
Could this be a problem of overheating of the graphics card?

What can I do? Give it to help to fix it? Someone in internet forums finished, change the graphics card, others the card mother (!).

Finally, sorry for my bad English...

    Hello

I understand you very well. These problems are very frustrating and make crazy.
But you must use the graphics drivers from Toshiba. These drivers are designed specially for Toshiba laptops and they are a little differently.
Graphic drivers of Toshiba control the performance of graphics cards because of overheating problems. In this case, other drivers from manufacturer s can damage the graphics card because they are not designed for the use of the laptop.

Well, I recommend to check other Toshiba laptops with the same graphics card and try to use this driver.

    Good bye

  • Question chart shared memory - Vista on Satellite M40

I have Satellite M40-psm40 with ATI x 300 and my OS is Vista. The card has 64 MB of memory and takes 255MB with total of 319 MB of main RAM memory.

    How can I reduce it?
    * I checked the BIOS to see if can decrease, but nothing in the BIOS to change.

    Hello

Bad news man. You can not increase or decrease this RAM graphics card!
The installed ATI MOBILITY RADEON supports the fix own memory. It is not shared video RAM.

There is no way to make the most efficient card.

  • Weird noises near the processor on Satellite M40

I have a laptop Satellite M40-243, I sent it to the service under warranty for a graphic display problem.
He came back yesterday, now it works well, but the processor emits weird noises.

Warranty service is unwilling to fix this because "there isn't any disfonctionnementsa!?

    Listen to these sounds: http://yang69.evoconcept.net/sounds/bruitsproc.mp3

    Is this normal?
    I think that no.

This is definitely not normal and you should contact service again as soon as possible. I put t know what it may be exactly, but this is the case for the service.

Satellite M40-265 LCD displays the image complete but crushed on two-thirds of the screen

Damage to the inverter is excluded as already checked. Inspect visually the cable of the LCD displays nothing. Beside the left speaker, a ground wire (black) to screwed, but it is s t connected anywhere.

    Hello

The M40 is a not sure oldie about the available settings in the BIOS and in the graphics options, but I think you should check the settings of the graphics card ATI Catalyst.
I remember that ATI catalyst supports certain options such as resizing the Image. Here you can select the image scale Panel option full size
In addition, you must set the resolution on the internal screen at native resolution of 1280 x 800
I think that the external monitor supports the resolution, which is not the same thing as the screen internal.

  • Satellite M40 (PSM40): where to find a NVidia display driver?

On the way to update my driver, I uninstalled old, but the driver I found on the nVidia site will not work. (The error message: "Setup nVidia didn't find all the drivers that are compatible with your current hardware.) The installation program will now stop. »)

I then searched a driver on the Toshiba site, but are all there drivers ATI or Intel. So, when I check my system, it does not find my video card (I use the method of debugging) and there is nothing other than the basic thing of VGA.

It's scary because I know that you can not change the graphics card, and if I can't fix this, then I'm screwed. =/

Video card: nVidia GEFORCE FX 6600 (which I can't find on the nVidia site)

    Hello

Very strange can you please post you detailed name (number of your laptop)?
I searched the Satellite M40 with graphics card nVidia but didn t find any model
I also checked the Toshiba driver page and didn t find all the graphic drivers for the nVidia card.

You will not be able to install the original graphics drivers on the graphics card manufacturing site because the graphics drivers from Toshiba are a bit changed.

What drivers graphics omega? Have you tested it?

  • Satellite M40 - question on the BIOS update

    Hello

I need to update my BIOS to be able to use a new stick of ram to 2 GB. Unfortunately I can't find an update of the specific BIOS on Toshiba website for the 265 M40, WXP with ATI graphics card.
    Which one should I install? M70, M100, 3.00, or 1.70, psm01, psm02...?

    Thank you

Satellite M40 can grow up to 2 GB of RAM, and to do that you need BIOS update memory vivid but compatible modules.
    Toshiba recommended 2 PC2700 X 1024 MB (PA3313U-2M1G).

What 2 GB module you want to use?

    That's all!
