Satellite M40 - shows only 1 GB of RAM instead of 1, 5 GB

Hello

I have a Satellite M40-296 with 512 MB of RAM. I bought a 1024 MB of RAM (from Kingston) and put it in the computer. He could show about 1500 MB, but I only have 1024. It s like the work of a few Don t of 512 MB.
I took out the 512 MB and I 1024Mo, but if I put the 512 MB 1024MB still.

I updated the BIOS to 1.20

Can someone help, please?

Thank you

Hey Buddy,

Normally, you can move the laptop to 2 GB RAM max.
Did you test each module in each slot?

I put t know that's wrong exactly, but I think that the modules are not compatible together if only the 1 GB module will be recognized.
Normally for optimal compatibility two modules with the same characteristics and size must be installed.

I recommend buying a second module of Kingston.

I think the problem is that the two s of RAM are not compatible, but it is not explained to me because use you two identical modules.

In your case I return the RAM to the computer dealer and say the modules work together in your notebook, but your laptop definitely supports 2 GB of RAM.

I think that there is no other way because you have updated your BIOS to the latest version.

  • Satellite L350 - Vista shows only 2 GB of RAM, but I have 4 GB installed

I installed 2 two modules expansion memory of 2 GB each to my satellite L350 that works on Windows Vista Premium.
I bought at Toshiba UK who confirmed that they were the correct modules.

The System Control Panel icon always indicates RAM 2 GB (not 4GB) memory.
If I remove one module 2 GB, the system icon of 2 GB (which is correct) said Control Panel.
I have re-installed the two modules and changed their round in the slots, but the system icon still says 2 GB.

  • Satellite M40 crashes when you play

My laptop broke down after 5 min of game COD2 or for example 2006 FIFA World Cup. I think it's video card problem. It comes with an ATI Mobility Radeon X600SE 128 MB up to 256 MB.

Upon entry to view the properties of the driver it shows only 128 MB of ram, it is correct? or should it shows 256 MB?
Is the video card gets extra ram of the system up to 256 MB automatically?

Any idea or advice how to fix this problem?

    Hello

I put t know what happens with your game exactly but try to fix the graphics settings to lower the level because you can not expect so high performance as with the graphics cards for desktop computers.

Please check tool system information you will find under the heading Accessories > system tools. Here you can see the info on graphics card. Info about 128 MB should be correct. This value is also in the laptop specification M40.

  • Satellite Pro A200 - shows only 3 GB instead of 4 GB of RAM

    Hello

2 years ago I had a Satellite Pro A200 as a professional laptop and it works with XP SP2, later with SP3. With 2 GB, it shows 2 GB memory in Windows - and I know it's a Radeon 7500 with 256 MB memory graphics individual, and there is no shared memory.

I upgraded to 4 GB, but Windows shows exactly 3 GB. BIOS shows 4 GB and ATI system monitor shows 4 GB. I know that 4 GB is not possible under XP 32-bit, only on Windows 2003 R2 32 bit or Vista - but on desktop systems, I've seen values between 3.3 and 3.7 GB.

So, where's the memory? It looks like a bug - the chips of memory have two 2 GB I checked this. Because it's a company laptop I can not just switch to 64-bit XP :-(

There's no option in the BIOS - first I thought that it is the graphics card, but mine has independent graphics with own memory so that the computer comes up with MB 2048 or 4096 after the upgrade.

Shared memory would show about 1900 MB of RAM for the operating system as my private EEEpc.

    Hi shadowmaster_1,

    > I know that 4 GB is not possible under XP 32 bit
Then why do you ask this question here if you already know? Moreover, it s not a limitation in XP, it s a material limitation on all 32-bit systems

    > only on Windows 2003 R2 32 bit or Vista
And who says that Windows 2003 or Vista can use 4 GB? Okay, there's an update for Vista where 4 GB correct displayed in system properties, but that doesn't make no difference. Vista 32 bit peut t use all of 4GB, it s only cosmetic improvements! ;)

    > So where is memory?
Memory is installed on your computer, but can t be used complelty with a 32 bit OS.

At the end of the story: If you want to use 4 GB, you need to install a 64 bit OS. On all the 32 bit OS, you can use only upward to ~3.2GB RAM!

  • Satellite Pro A60 - Windows XP shows / use only a part of RAM available

    Hello guys!

I am facing strange problems with one of my two A60s. I just upgraded two of them with 1024 MB of RAM the same. One works perfectly, but the other will show me only 410 MBs in Windows. The BIOS indicates the correct size. I changed the RAM from one to the other, but this strange error is always present. The version of the BIOS has been updated to 1.90 and has Windows XP SP2.

Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Is there an easy way to put the management of RAM in Windows?

    Thank you in advance!

    Ralf

    It s very strange.
I found that an additional Satellite Pro A60 info has been delivered with a different hardware configuration.
Some A60 Pro comes with an internal memory of 512 MB and others with only 256 MB internal memory.
In addition, the internal memory modules cannot be deleted and there is only one slot for memory upgrade.

But I put t know why the OS shows only 410 MB

Oh, I forgot to mention that the graphics card, also use the part of the main memory and, therefore, the operating system of shared memory could indicates a value of different memory.

  • New RAM on Satellite A200 - 1 M 5 shows only 3 GB

    Hello

    My machine Satellite A200 - 1 M 5 has 1 GB of RAM initially (2 x 512).

I've now updated to 4 GB (2 x 2 GB). However, the BIOS and the operating system (Windows Vista) showed only 3 GB.

I've updated the BIOS, and now even if the BIOS shows 4 GB, Windows Vista shows 3 GB.

Is there a solution for this?

I tried to attach a stick at a time and they are both displayed in the form of 2 GB.

    Thank you

    Zubair

I can just confirm that. It is certainly caused by OS Vista 32-bit. Using the version 64-bit 4 GB will be recognized without any problems.

  • Pavilion 500-246: GB of ram it shows only GB why usable?

I have a Pavilion of 500-246 with 8 GB of ram it shows only 7.18 usable - PLEASE HELP.

I also try to install a GeForce 8400 GS with 1024 MB ddr3 pci-e 2.0 and cannot operate. If I plug into the video card and that you start the computer NOTHING on the screen at all. S ' PLEASE HELP.

    Hello:

The memory problem you reported is normal.

Part of memory has been reserved for some devices of system such as the integrated graphics card.

The issue of the video card does not...

I see the product that your PC came with factory-installed W8.1.

In order to get a video card no HP to work, you need to change 2 settings of the BIOS before installing your video on any PC card that came with W8 or newer version of the factory.

See this link to change the BIOS settings.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03653200/

Also before you install your video card, you must uninstall the graphics card in Device Manager, check the box uninstall driver, stop, disconnect the PC and install your video card.

You can do this after you change the BIOS settings.

  • Re: Satellite A665 - 12K - only 1.93 GB, 4 GB of RAM recognized

Hello everyone, here's my problem: when I opened my laptop configuration, it shows only 1.93 GB of my RAM is available of 4 total. How can I activate all 4?
I would appreciate any help from you.

    Thank you in advance.

PS I have updated my BIOS to the latest version.

    Hey,.

What operating system do you use? Windows 7 Toshiba or a pre-installed operating system?

The amount of RAM is recognized in the BIOS? 4 GB or just 1.93 GB?

  • Satellite C660: HARD drive space shows only 20 GB of free?

Toshiba Satellite c660 with 320 GB of disk space, it shows that 2 hard drives or 2 partitions, one called data shows only 20.6 GB of free on 148, but when I go in there I can only find at maximum approximately 50 GB even with all the backups?

    Hello

There are more partitions on the HARD drive.
You can see it in disk management.
Right click on computer and select manage.
Now you should be able to go to the disk management which will show you all the available partitions.

A hidden partition is used for the Windows 7 backup files that are needed to fix the Windows 7 in the case where something goes wrong with the OS.
Then, you can find a Windows partition and the other partition is used for HARD drive recovery. The point is that you are able to run the system recovery from the HARD drive without the use of the recovery disc (recover disk must be created using the recovery disc creator)
