Satellite M40: upgrade XP Home, XP Pro

I have a copy not used Windows XP Pro upgrade from 2000 , but cannot install on my Satellite M40 as XP Home tells me that I have a newer version installed. How can I put using XP PRO 2000 on my 2005 M40 build
Can it be done?

Hello

If I understand you correctly, you want to have Windows XP Professional on your laptop. As far as I know, you need a full version of XP Pro to improve your system this way.

Which copy of Windows you have, XP or 2000?

Good bye

    Hello

If you want to upgrade the OS to WinXP Pro you must install it from the original CD of Microsoft. After installation, you can use the same drivers Toshiba because the WinXp Home and WinXp Pro uses the same drivers.
The drivers, you can find on the CD of tools delivered Toshiba or you're going to download it from the page of Toshiba.

Is very important to install Toshiba stuff in the right order.
    1.) chipset utility
    2.) common modules (if available)
    Driver graphic 3.),
    4.) etc...

You can also follow the order of installation of the driver Toshiba & Tools CD.

    Hello

If the stick is not removable because she is oblique, open remove it any computer laptop card reader and then try to remove the stick!

But if you open your M40 you will lose your warranty, so you need to contact a Toshiba Service partner! They are able to remove the stick!

  • Problem starting Satellite M40 - windows didn't start up properly

Satellite M40 running XP Home, an 80 GB HD, 2 partitions, (System on C:, data on D :)

During bootup, current sector has been disconnected (no battery in the laptop). When I try to start it again, go to the screen (sorry for the "mixed-language french English"...) «windows didn't start properly... Please select 'safe mode', "safe mode with LAN enabled", "BACK Safe Mode", 'last known good configuration' or 'normal startup' (I'm simplifying the content of the screen...).»

Regardless of the choice that I do, XP starts to run, then I get a blue screen flashes briefly (too fast to be able to read what whatsoever) and the process begins again.

I can access the BIOS and were able to boot from a CD.
Thank you anyone give me some guidance as to the possible problem (as well as a possible solution that could avoid having to completely restore the system and... to reinstall all apps)

    Hello

Seems the BSOD appears and the laptop operating system cannot start as should!
The BSOD appears especially because of the hardware or software serious malfunction.
First we need to find if its hardware or software related problem.

Installation simply from the recovery CD is a simpler way to find out what could be wrong
You must format the first partition C, where the old operating system has been installed and install the new OS on the C.

  • Satellite M40 - how to use the recovery cd

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite M40 using XP Home
My anti virus has caught a virus and delt with him.

He told me to reboot, which I did. When he started toward the high winlogin.exe TI displayed cannot start because it is missing shell32.dll
I clicked OK and it showed lsass.exe failed to load because it is missing shell32.dll
I clicked on OK and a message showed the user interface login user interface dll failed. Msglna.dll failed to load. replace or restore the original dll.

I restart and it brings back me to winlogin.exe message.
Normally I upload these files and install them, but I can't the computer on at all.
I can't get the safe mode or safe mode with prompt orders and last known configuration failed.

I have a Toshiba restore disk but I don't want to do a full reformat and the other option on the drive says not to use it if you know what you
made with files - and I do not have.

I watch the options he had, but it just made no sence and would not make my situation worse.

    I hope someone can help.

    Thanks much sally

    Hello!

Looks like you have a strange virus on your laptop

But I put t know why you don t want to do a complete reformat of the laptop. The point is that the Toshiba Recovery disk contains a picture of the factory settings. This means that you can restore t that only some files and you need to do a complete reinstallation of the operating system. To be honest, I think that it is in any case the best solution, because I think that the virus can only be deleted if you format the HARD drive using the Toshiba recovery disc.
To use the only recovery disk, you must boot from it and follow the instructions on the screen. It of easy to use and only takes a few minutes.

If you want to save some files before you begin reinstalling Windows, you can put the HARD drive into an external HARD drive enclosure. Then you can back up your data from another computer. I did it and I have had success with this and maybe you too. It s worth a try.

And let me give you a little advice. After you have reinstalled Windows to use a good antivirus program and keep up-to-date. I have a good experience AntiVir (Freeware) and Kaspersky. In addition to activate the Windows Firewall or you use another firewall. Don t forget to install the latest Service Pack for your operating system and activate the Windows automatic update function. If you can get all of the updates in a timely.

I hope I could help you, and now you understand the best deal.

    Concerning

    Hello

Sorry, but in my opinion there nothing to do.
You cannot move all the keys on the keyboard.
    It s is not possible.

What you can do is to change the keyboard language in the settings of the OS, but I t I think the function of the ALT GR key will change.
Another possibility is to change the keyboard to another provision, but these make no sense because you will not be able to use the special Polish panels.

    Thank you

    Hello

I put t see no reason why it would not be possible to upgrade the OS to Win XP Pro.
You uprising received recovery Toshiba CD with WinXP home and all drivers and utilities was already preinstalled on this image.

If you want to upgrade the operating system, you can buy an original CD of Microsoft Windows XP Pro and you will need to install the drivers of Toshiba and utilities in the correct order. For most installation guide line is placed on the site driver of Toshiba.

I think that everything must be clear, that I forgot something. Windows XP Home and Pro uses the same drivers. Then you should be able to use the same drivers that are available on the page

  • I have an I7 of Satellite A505 and it came with home premium and I did the anytime upgrade to Win 7 Pro

My Toshiba create multimedia tool repair does not work.  I have an I7 of Satellite A505 and it came with home premium and I did the anytime upgrade to Win 7 Pro, I want to try to download an .iso in Windows 7 Pro and do a fresh install.

I have the upgrade button.  I wonder if I should first download Home premium, it came with and then download the pro, I have two keys, I don't drive and Dosen t Toshiba tool work.  T have to find the way.  any help will be appreciated

So if I understand correctly, I charge Home premium, then simply use the upgrade key and it will unlock win Pro, or I have to download pro then install it on Home Premium and use the key?

YES! As Andre also noted. You must activate Home Premium with his first touch, then simply use the key to upgrade Express to go Pro. Pro is already part of Home Premium and the key to upgrade Express just unlocks.

Also, thank you for your help!

    Hello Rob

Please don t get me wrong, but this old notebook was designed for Windows XP Home edition. I imagine that you have problems with the installation of Win7, but I'm afraid that there is not much you can do about it.

This laptop old models are not supported for Win7 and Toshiba will not offer some updates as the BIOS update. If you want to use the newer operating system probably you must also update your hardware. Maybe it's time for the new laptop computer. ;)

    As the owner of a Toshiba Satellite P875 - 31 p

I have 8 Windows pre-installed, but guess that's the Standard edition and ask whether it is possible to upgrade to Windows 8 pro.

Someone has had experience of this updgade?

How can I find out which version of the Windows 8 operating system is installed?
What product of Microsort should I upgrade.
Can I buy a new Windows 8 Pro OEM license?
Where to buy an upgrade of my existing (from Toshiba?) operating system

Is an upgrade to widows 8 recommended Pro?

    Hello

According to the info I found on the page of Toshiba, the laptop is preinstalled with common system of 64-bit Windows 8.

If you want to upgrade this Windows 8 Pro version, you can buy the upgrade of Microsoft.

But the question is if these updates would be really necessary for you...
I dunno... This page and take a look at the details provided by Microsoft Windows 8 Pro

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/compare

You can see what are the benefits of the windows 8 Pro version would provide.
Usually there is no big difference between Windows 8 and the Pro version.

  • Satellite M40-276 - memory not detected in the Bios upgrade

    Hi people!

    New kid on the block!

I have a client with a toshiba Satellite m40-276. I've updated his memory to give it a little more to play with...

Went into the bios to see if everything was OK but no projected additional memory. I removed the new and old memory and put in the new 1 GB module and restart the computer.
The bios has not yet changed the size of the old memory?

Went to windows and of course that the memory has been detected it normally?
I added the other memory module and went into the bios again, but no change it?

Windows, however, recognized that the two modules?

His computer is the same bios to factory and has never been updated.

My questions are... why the bios doesn't recognize the upgrade memory? It will help in upgrading the bios?

Enjoy all the suggestions I can get on this issue.

    Thank you

    bookie56

Generally, if you upgrade RAM using tested compatible modules, that should be recognized correctly.
We do not know what modules you use, and I guess that there is a compatibility issue.

RAM on Satellite M40 276 can scale up to 2 GB of RAM and compatible modules are:
    DDR2 400/533 256 MB (PA3389U - 1 M 25)
    512 MB DDR2-400/533 (PA3412U - 1 M 51)
    1 GB OF DDR2 400/533 (PA3411U-1M1G)

What surprises me is that I have not received any error during installation and all devices, including the installed modem OK with no problems.

Another observation when I tried to connect to the Internet using our dial back of company during installation of Windows XP Edition family's volition I remembered and the modem responds very well. But with Windows XP Professional SP2 media center installed the modem call how ever in "waiting for call-back ', when the server of our company try to call me, the modem does not respond and waits until I get the message Time out

Please if anyone has an explanation for this decision No. let me know because it is driving my nuts.

    Hello

Have you tried to install the latest driver of modem? Please check if you have the right driver for Win Xp. You can find the drivers on the Toshiba site.

    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com

They are a lot of drivers for countries individually.

In addition, Windows XP SP2 includes the new Windows Firewall. It is possible that the firewall is preventing the modem connection. You can try to disable the Windows Firewall.

  • Can satellite M40-231 - I upgrade the GPU (graphics card)?

    Hi all

My Satellite M40-231 has an ATI Mobility Radeon X 600 SE and I would like to upgrade to deal with the demands of today's games, but also a new HARD drive, but the latter, I think that I can go as far as the 120 GB HARD drive.

    SUGESTIONS are welcome.

    TKS

Sorry, buddy, but this is not possible!
There are several discussions about upgrading the GPU on mobile phones and all the threads said the same thing that's not possible.

The point is that most graphic cards chips are outside the motherboard and cannot be deleted.
You must understand that technology for portable computers is not the same thing as the technology of desktop PCs and more upgrades are not possible.

Which could be upgraded are the memory modules and HARD drive.
