Satellite M40X-149: where a memory module?

Hello

I have a satellite M40X-149. I believe that my laptop has a faulty memory - gel randomly, sometimes will not start sound cmos etc. However when I opened the plastic lid it seems to be an empty memory slot. Assume that the memory is either on board or possibly under the keyboard as in some other models of Toshiba.

Could someone tell me first where it is and also if it can be replaced. If it cannot be replaced, is it possible to disable it and use the empty accommodation?

The machine is out of warranty so take it apart is not a problem

Thanks in advance
KeV

Hello

Yes, you are right. The laptop supports 2 locations in memory, but only one is scalable user.
This means that the other is hidden somewhere under the keyboard!
But if you remove the keyboard or any parts, you will lose the warranty.
Therefore the slot is called scalable user because the common user could insert the module without having to open Notepad.

The laptop can be upgraded up to 2048 MB. If one slot can candle 1024Mo!

    Hello

This looks like the display driver needs to be updated. Please see the Toshiba page for an update:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

Before installing the latest version, you must remove the old one. Then restart the laptop and now to install the most recent version.

Normally if the display driver is installed correctly, you should be able to choose the higher screen resolution.

    Hello

If there is no possibility try test your WLAN functionality with another network wireless (friend or maybe in your company). On this path, you should be sure if the problem occurs only with your WLAN.

Try to install the driver for your WIRELESS Intel network card. You can find it under http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1847&lang=eng

  • Satellite A300D PSAH8A replace the memory module

    Hi, everyone, I have a satellite A300D *(PSAH8A-01K00H) has only 2 G of RAM.
I want to upgrade my RAM to 4 G, but not very well what RAM (I mean DDR2 or DDR3), how fast is compatible with the motherboard)

Someone can give me some advice or a website to find its material information, would be much appreciated thanks in advance.

    Hi mate

Notebook´s RAM upgrade depends on the chipset.
Means that you should check the properties of the chipset.

But as far as I know the laptop must support 4 GB of RAM, and AFAIK you could use DDR2 modules RAM 800 MHz.

PS: this information must also be placed in the user's manual. Then maybe you should check this too ;)

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M40x-149 - Question about RAM upgrade

Currently, I have 512 MB of RAM and want to upgrade. The jury of the RAM has two screws, should I take this and replace it with an upgrade of RAM, or leave the original in and put the new in the slot on top?

    Thank you.

    Hi RareOz,

The amount of RAM you want after upgrade?
If you want a maximum of 1 GB of RAM for example, you can leave the original RAM in and buy 512 MB additional RAM.

But as far as I know M40x supports up to 2 GB of RAM, and that's why it would be necessary to install the module of RAM of 1 GB in each slot. That's why you need two new modules.

The specification is PC2700 SO - DIMM DDR - RAM.

Right you´re the second RAM is under the keyboard, but after removing the keyboard, unscrew a small cover that appears after lifting the keyboard. This bit of cover and the second RAM will appear.

  • Satellite M40X-149 - typing question

My wife is having a problem with some letters by typing on the internal keyboard, the keyboard was changed, but the problem persists. If it uses the following keys that several letters are typed, but not every time, I thought it was the heat associated with, but sometimes it happens as soon as the laptop is on, sometimes it's okay for a short period.

The affected keys are:-q s d g,. [] PgDn Alt all ideas, an external keyboard works fine, but using one is very troublesome, a laptop with an external keyboard is a desktop computer.

If you use an internal keyboard brand new but the problem persists perhaps is defective keyboard controller. It can be verified by the service. In this case the repair can be quite expensive.
I put t know how your wife is using this old book but if he uses it on the small keyboard Office Wireless can be good solution.

  • Satellite M40x-149 and atheros ar5005gs

I recently bought a laptop, a few weeks previously and recently I tried to connect it to a work already wireless network in the home and found that the laptop could not see the network and then connect to it.

I know that the network is working with the other computers in the House.

The internal network card is installed and working properly according to the windows Device Manager.

Could someone please advice me on the possible solutions to this problem.

    Hello

If your wireless card is installed correctly, the next step is to activate the card. All with antenna wireless switch on the front of your laptop. After that check with the combination of keys FN + F8 if wireless network is enabled. After that decide how you want to configure your wireless card. For the configuration of the wireless network, you can use the Windows settings or the settings of the Client (in you Atheros client utility case).

If there is no link please check internet connection firewall.

My other laptops do not have the same problem with the same router in the same room.

    Hi Paul

In my opinion, you should first of all control the functionality of your wireless adapter. If you are able to see your local WLAN card works properly. In this case this problem may be due to wrong settings.

Do you use WLAN WXP parameters or a WIFI client?

  • Satellite M40X-149 the use with a digital projector HP 3130

Hi, new to this, so apologies before you start!

I have my M30 laptop and I am trying to link it to a new digital projector - a HP3130.
I connected it, turned everything on, began a slide show on my laptop... toggled buttons FN/F5 (a screen comes up with three images on it, but not the choice on how to choose or use) and nothing appears on the screen.

What should I do to make them work together?
    Any ideas please?
    Thank you very much.

    Paul

What you need to do is to switch to projector before you start any application.
So when you see Office use only FN + F5 key combination to switch to the projector.
When the desktop is displayed, it start the slide show.
