Satellite M40X Maximum HDD capacity

I want to install a new HDD for my Satellite M40X.

I tried using a 160 GB HARD drive, I copied the partitions, but the HARD drive does not start... I copied the C partition to check the copy procedure, an old 30 GB player and this player is able to start.
What is taken as supported by the BIOS HARD drive size?

Hello!

As far as I know that the Satellite M40x is equipped with an IDE HDD, and so it has a limitation of LBA 28 bits. Which means that it will only support hard drives 120 GB.
On the limitation of the LBA, you can read more here: [www.48bitlba.com]

So in your case, I'd bought a 120 GB and it should work fine. Check it!

Good bye

    could someone tell me

    Hi Tom,

If you are running Windows XP, then it's quite normal that your hard drive show activity from time to time. You will have several active processes running that will periodically access the hard disk.

You can also have background tasks that will periodically throw in life and cause a disk access activity.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite M40x-250 turns off without warning

    HII everyone,

Hope you guys can help me. I have an old Toshiba Notebook (Satellite M40x-250).

I don't know how old exactly, but I think around 4 or 5 years. Ive never had any problem with it, but now its weird action. Recently, I was typing something and suddenly it just turned itself off.

I waited about five minutes before I restarted and it worked perfectly again.
Same thing just happened half an hour ago.

Now his works once again, with no loss of information.
My laptop is just getting old, or would be - this other problem that could be solved?

    Thank you!

    Hello

In my eyes it s typical overheating problem
As you say it s a laptop plus age (4 to 5 years) and I suppose that the cooling fans have not been cleaned since the first day
I think that there is a lot of dust and debris that prevents the cooling modules to work with maximum efficiency, this can lead to a higher temperature and shut downs.

The laptop turns off automatically to prevent the equipment from damage
Clean the fan using a jet of compressed air! In from time to time, and it helps!

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M40x-183 - memory upgrade

    Hello

I'm looking forward to upgrade the RAM in my Satellite M40x-183. The laptop came with 512 MB of RAM. Of the record, I learned that it can be expanded to 2 GB.

I don't know what type of RAM (DDR1/2) and how often rely on m40x-183. Please help me with the type of RAM and frequency supported by M40x-183.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

According to the specifications of the product:

    HTTP://EU.COMPUTERS.TOSHIBA-EUROPE.COM/INNOVATION/JSP/SUPPORTSECTION/DISCONTINUEDPRODUCTPAGE.DO?SERVICE=EU&PRODUCT_ID=1 05812 & DISC_MODEL = 1

    standard: 512 MB
    maximum scalability: 2 048 MB
    technology: DDR RAM
    Front Side Bus: 533 MHz

So you can be upgraded up to 2 GB DDR (533 MHz)

  • Satellite M40X-112: can I use the 160 GB HARD drive

I have a Satellite M40X-112 lapptop and I want to upgrade my 80 GB to 160 GB internal drive.
How is know possible? (Toshiba hotline cannot give me an answer only that a 80 GB drive has been tried with these lapptop!). Anyone have experience with that?

I read several statements here in the forum about HDD upgrade on the M40X and it seems that there is a limitation in the BIOS.
The BISO will not recognize the 160 GB HARD drive and that is why you will be not possible to install an OS or you will not be able to boot from this device.

Please use the "advanced search" from this forum to find discussions on upgrading the HARD drive.

  • What recovery for Satellite M40x disk will do?

My laptop got ridiculously slow and I want to go back to its factory settings to see if that sorts it.
I have a Satellite M40x product recovery dvd - rom, but not sure it will do one.

More precisely, let me use it need to reinstall windows (I don't seem to have any windows CD)?
The laptop has a sticker on this says that it was bundled with Microsoft Office OneNote2003, but I don't know what it means to be and if it makes a difference.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hello

The product recovery disc image file.
The image is a package that contains the Windows OS, drivers Toshiba, tools and additional software.

So using the recovery disk reformatted HDD books and set the laptop back to factory settings. Using the recovery disk is a simpler and faster way to get installed a new OS!

    See you soon

  • Satellite M40X-189 - replace HARD disk - what size should I go to?

Hi, I have a SATELLITE M40X-189, I would like to replace the hard drive and would like if possible some recommendations!
I know I need an ide/pata and I currently have a hard disk of 40 GB hitachi 5400 rpm installed. The memory is just what came installed originally, (512 MB, no upgrade).

So what size I can up to?
I have a lot of music/photos and video to change so must also size decent 80 GB would be enough?
I really don't use it for anything other than that, and also the navigation on the internet. Although I often have a few programs running at the same time which causes problems... freeze, (in particular I tunes) and generally slow running.

I'm confident on the physical replacement, and I know how to clone my old drive hard etc, but just need some info about the size and speed and if possible
a recommendation of the manufacturer. Just worried about incompatibility really issues.

Also, if you think I should install more memory, which size and make and model may recommend.

    Thank you in advance!

    Denise.

    Hi mate

First he must know that this question have been posted a lot of time in the forum.
If you want to use the search option, then you will find this thread for example:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=68287

Is the M40X series supports the IDE controller and I think that you need a 2.5 IDE HDD.
The old ide controllers are limited to 128 GB with 28-bit LBA
However, you can take an 80 GB or 120 GB HARD drive and it should work fine

  • Satellite M40x-189 heats up when it is connected to the power adapter

    Hey,.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40x-189, which is about 18 months old. Recently, I had too replace the battery, but now it seems that my adapter had fried itself. He refuses now too charge my cell phone for more than a few minutes and the part of the adapter that goes into the laptop becomes ridiculously hot even after a few minutes.

I can't find where too much to buy a new adapter, I get results, but adapters look totally different, can anyone tell me if Toshiba has changed the cards and where too find a power adapter.

    This may help - adapter PA1650 - T 02:100 - 240V AC 50-60 Hz 65W / 3 pins with 19V DC output.

Also, I find that on the occasions, my laptop just cut. In the middle of everything what I do, and the laptop itself would become so hot, it can't be touched for a few minutes, interestingly, this only happens when the laptop is charging. This problem is not related too my adapter problem, because its been happening for a good month now.

    Thank you, in advance.

    Hello

I saw your first thread on the power adapter and that other users already suggested the power adaptor can be ordered from the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country!
If you n t know how to find the service provider allowed in your country, please take a look on the homepage of European support of Toshiba. You will find a link to the database ASP.

As you have already said the laptop automatically stops downs have nothing to do with the AC adapter.
I agree with you for me, it looks like overheating!
Usually, this happens if fans and cooling modules cannot run with maximum efficiency.
Dust may prevent the complete rotating fan!

I recommend to use the vacuum against the bars of cooling hose to clean the fans!
    It should help!
    But please be careful.

  • Satellite M40X - BSOD caused by ATI2DVAG. Win XP SP3 DLL

    Hello

    I have a laptop Tosiba Satellite M40X.

When the ATI display driver is installed, there is a blue screen caused by a loop of infitive caused by the ATI2DVAG. DLL with the OEM Version of Windows XP, the machine is working no more.

When a full Windows XP is installed, it is possible to delete all the ATI * hard disk. Then, with a resolution of 1024 * 768, the machine works properly without any problem.

Once the ATI driver is installed again, the problems reappear. It does not help to download the latest driver from the TOSHIBA Web site. I already have new loades drivers on the net through special but even with that it was not possible to solve the problem.

It seems to me that the machine works best with the new driver. It was possible to perform the verification of the material (software provided by Toshiba) with no problem, when the new pilot (pilot program) was installed without any problems.

I could check the Device Manager when the machine was not working properly. There, I saw that there is an interference between the PCI bridge card driver and the ATI driver.

I am woandering why the problems start (when the ATI driver is installed) just after the start of the machine, even before or while you can see TOSIHBA for the first time. There is no difference if you unplug the machine power and the battery before. This is why I believe that there is a problem that persists when the computer is without energy (BIOS).

I have already updated to the latest drivers and the latest version of the BIOS (from Toshilba)

The TOSHIBA support asked me to bring my laptop to test the equipment. But, in my opinion, there is no material damage. The problem is Toshiba and / or ATI.

    Where are the latest drivers?

Why is it possible to get the version 8 driver ATI by RADAR SYNC when Version 6 is available on the TOSHIBA site at the same time?
Toshiba does not provide the latest drivers and wants to bring in the laptop for a verification of the material. This service is very good.
I always wanted to buy a new TOSHIBA but with this kind of service...

Does anyone have a similar problem or solution for this?

    Greetings

    Markus

    I have a question;

The M40X is a older laptop and I assume that this issue didn't appear in the past.
If the laptop has worked with the graphics driver preinstalled, old.
This means that it is NOT a graphics driver issue but it must relate to another reason.

    > I wonder why the problems start (when the ATI driver is installed) just after the start of the machine, even before or while you can see TOSIHBA for the first time.
This would mean that this problem occurs because the graphics driver has been loaded and the map graphic with a maximum return.
And it also means that it is NOT a graphics driver issue but also question of graphics chip.

I agree with the TOSHIBA support. The said, you should contact the technician for the control of the laptop.
I recommend the same because as described above this doesn t sound like a software problem!

  • Satellite M40x-112 - need advice on upgrade HARD disk

    Hello

I have a Satellite M40x-112, it is almost 3 years and the hard drive (TOSHIBA MK8025GAS ATA) has problems, I need to change it, but I don't know a lot of this so I ask for help and advice on which hard drive should I buy for this laptop.

I searched and read, but I still don't understand... In my view, there are many interfaces like PATA, SATA, ATA, then I saw ATA-2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 also Ultra-ATA/100, EIDE, IDE etc etc... so I'm really confused...

What interface using my laptop? What interface to use the new hard disk?

And what hard drive 2.5 "is good? You will find a large number of companies, which is the best hard drives for laptops?
My current hard drive is fat 80 GB. I would switch to 160 or 250, this guy do you recommend?

Thank you all very much for your help,

I understand that very well the different titles of interface HARD drive confused most people me too in the past ;)

    Then I would try to clarify some things;
There are two important differences between the interfaces of HDD; IDE (ATA, PATA and also known as EIDE) and SATA (SATA).

    ATA - 5, Ultra ATA/66 means Ultra DMA 3, 4 (44.4, 66.7) means UDMA/66
    ATA - 6 means that ultra ATA/100 that means UDMA 5 (100) means UDMA/100
    ATA - 7, Ultra-ATA/133 means that UDMA 6 (133) means UDMA/133

    and so now ;)

Your laptop supports the drive HARD IDE (ATA-6) Enhanced interface and you must use the IDE HDD (NOT of SATA)

I'm not sure on the size HARD disk max because Toshiba doesn't provide official information on the max supported drives hard but a 100 GB maybe 120 GB of HARD drive might be possible.

    Best regards

  • Satellite M40x: Question about normal CPU temperature

    Hello

Can someone tell me what is the normal operating of the processor (Intel Pentium M 730 1.6 GHz) for the Satellite M40x series?

    Hello

Well, it's not easy to say what the normal temperature may be because it depends on the central unit using performance. If the CPU works more with the performance of 100% if the CPU temperature is higher.
Also, I found this very interesting site on different processors and maximum temperature of the cover.
