Satellite M40x - repeated beeping during post

Hi guys. I have this problem.

When I turn on my laptop, as soon as he gets to the Toshiba Logo screen it freezes and starts a repeated short beep lasts forever. I learned that a key has been blocked, so I tried to press some keys in case they return to normal. After a few tries, I managed to find the the only way to continue startup and loading of windows, is to keep the f1 + f2 + f3 pressed together all the time. I managed to log into windows I opened Notepad and published the keys then, I see we're stuck. A 44444 immediately started to type... Since the key 4 seemed all right, I thought it would be a problem with keyboard, so I tried to unplug. But the same thing happens with the Ribbon of keyboard completely disconnected from the motherboard. It freezes at logo Toshiba and beeps.

After some research on the net and this forum, I found that many people experience this problem with different laptops, but I see no alternative but to replace the motherboard, I also found a topic stating that it was the fault of media buttons, but I tried to disconnect them as soon as I pressed the power button , unfortunately no different result.

This forum is my last hope, someone has encountered something like that and fixed it? Thank you.

  • Satellite Pro A - beeping during POST

    Hello.

I have a problem with the BIOS POST check bothers me. The problem is that when I rebooted my computer or put on sometimes during POST (when a Toshiba logo appears) there is a beep beep. Especially there is no signal, but there are sometimes even noise.

So the question is: is this a problem at the level of the material or is it a problem in the BIOS (by the way, I re-flashed the repeatedly - BIOS without result).

    Thank you.

    Hey Buddy,

This means that you get only sometimes a beep code when you start the laptop or is it always?

These beep codes mean usually there is a hardware problem but I think that only an authorized service provider can test this exactly.
What you can do is to reset the BIOS to default settings and if you have two memory modules live, test it with a module only.

  • Satellite L350-12N - beeps during startup

    Hello

I bought this as a refurbished laptop, and I have a problem getting it to start. When turned on, it says welcome to Toshiba screen where you can press the function keys to access the configuration screens, then the screen goes black, makes a continuous beep sound and goes no further. It loads the operating system.

I tried to restore the operating system to the hard drive as described in the manual, but still the same fault. Is this a known indicator of a hardware or software failure?

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

    Hello

To be honest, I still don t understand what you exactly. Do you use F8 at the beginning upward to enter advanced startup options or what?

You have created recovery DVD such as recommended by the reminder of Toshiba? If so, you can try installing the OS using this recovery media.

In any case, enter the BIOS at startup settings upward and set it to default settings. HARD drive is recognized correctly in the BIOS settings?

At the end I have to say that it is not easy to say what the problem is here. If please check out what several things and let us know if the HARD drive is recognized correctly, or what will happen if you try to install the OS by using initial recovery media.

  • Satellite C650 composed a series of beeps during startup

Bought new Satellite C650 laptop for daughter, managed to establish a wireless connection and load anti virus soft wear.
Laptop is now a series of beeps during the startup process after you log with password and before loading windows. Bleeps last about 10-15 seconds and count 20-30 constant beeps.

What this mean and how can I stop them?

    Hey Buddy,

This means that Windows does not start correctly and you can enter the password but it beeps again for 10-15 seconds?
    Well, that s very strange

If so, you are using the version preinstalled Windows from Toshiba or did you install your own version of Windows?

(Beep - beep - beep - beep) intreval approximately 1 seconds. and then nothing happens!

I replaced the RAM with a new one... but still the same

    any advise?

    Hello!

As far as I know the Satellite M40X has a Phoenix BIOS.

Phoenix BIOS, there is no code 1-1-1-1 (beep-beep-beep-beep).
I think it is 1-1-2-1 or something else.
Here is a list of the different beep codes:
    http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/phoenixbeep.htm

If you replaced the RAM, I think that there is something wrong with the CPU or the motherboard.

You are able to narrow down the possible parts that might cause these beeps?
Maybe the sound is coming from the HARD drive?

Also check if the sound in the BIOS.
Go to BIOS (F2) and keep the laptop running in this mode BIOS.

  • Error and warning before and after the POST - Satellite M40X 129

    Hello

    I use a Satellite M40X-129, bought in 2005.
After you have reinstalled Windows and all the necessary drivers (after more than 3 years, which was the longest time I used a windows ;-)) installation this afternoon, I meet the following situation when starting):

(... check and all the stuff of ram...)
    Updated System Configuration data
    ERROR
    0271: check date and time
    WARNING
0251: System CMOS checksum bad - default configuration used
    Press to resume, installation

When I press F1 to resume, windows starts very well as I'm used to it.
I can also access the configuration and need to update the time setting.

    Two scenarios:
    (a) the startup, shutdown, reboot: error message happen
    (b) setting the time, out of the bios with save the configuration, boot, very well until the stop/restart is required

I tried to download the update of the bios to v1.60, but the configuration tool told me that this version is already in use and it will not progress.

What I wondered: why is it happening? I don't think that the battery power is low, which was suggested to others in other threads, because it happened just after I installed the chipset/utils and other drivers from the toshiba download page.

    What can I do?

-Bios update? -> Where can I find a new version? A tool (which I downloaded from a site linked to Phoenix Technologies) told me, there is an update for my Bios, but he wants me to join a subscription $29.99 / year

-Swap CMOS battery? -> how remove m40x-129, tutorials? Don't want no f * ck it upwards...

    any other advice?

    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards

    Hello

I think that the CMOS battery may be empty and therefore both a given in the BIOS is always changing the default value.

Usually, you should be able to recharge this battery CMOS very easily.
The user manual describes how to load this. Take a look at your manual

As I m not wrong not the laptop must be ON and running and must be connected to the mains for more than 20hours.
Then, the notebooks BIOS battery needs to be recharged again.

    Check it out!

    Good bye

  • Satellite M40X-286: energy saving and the E - key utility does not work on Vista

First of all, sorry for my bad English.

I managed to install Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit on my Satellite M40X-286. Everything works, except for the energy saving and the E - key utility. I tried the added value of packages of other TOSHIBA models, but they all give an error message during the installation. Is there a solution for this problem?

Now I can't change the speed of the processor and the brightness of my screen, and I can't even adjust these settings in a power mode. The only way to change the brightness is manually using the FN + F6 and F7 keys.

    Kind regards
    Stijn.

Please don t be crazy about me, but there is no problem at all. The situation is quite clear.

First: tools and utilities are similar, but in most cases have to be adapted for each laptop model. It may happen that some tools work on the different model of laptop, but this does not mean that he has to work on each model.

Second important fact is that Toshiba does not Satellite M40X support for Vista operating system and I guess you won't be able to use this tool. In my opinion, it is not so important, because all the energy-saving settings you can find in Vista power options.

For utility E - key, I don't see a solution. If you use OS not supported, you must live with it.

  • Problem starting on Satellite M40X-250

For some time, I'm having a problem with an old laptop, the Toshiba Satellite M40X-250.

When I try to boot this laptop, the headlights turn on, I can hear the hard drive and fan from, also I can hear (if I have one there) station cd read cd/dvd.

But nothing else happens, the screen remains black and there is no way I can make it work.

I quite know something on the desktop, so I disassembled the laptop completely and just cleaned and after I reassembled it again, but that had no effect, I can not even boot up the laptop.

There is however another strange thing, it is very rare, but sometimes I get to start, but at some random point (very quickly, because I can't actually use the laptop) it is for me a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) with an error code, I think it was 0x000000EA. In any case, this meant a driver problem with the graphics card. It gave me an error ATIDVAG.

But most of the time I'm still not able to start.

Now, it's a very old laptop and I have tried everything,.
I tried to start without battery (disconnected) and only the power, without result.
I tried to start only with the battery, no results.
I tried to unplug the power supply and the battery, then press the power button / stop for 60 seconds, no results.
I tried several rescue cd, a linux installation cd, windows installation cd, it resulted in nothing.
[EDIT] I have also connected to the laptop to an external monitor, but that did not work, no results.

I'm really lost now, I have tried everything I know, and I've never met a problem like this.
Maybe it's just the fact that material became old and it is better to give up, but I would really like to know if there is someone who can help me and maybe give me some ideas on what I can do.

I am very familiar with the inside of this laptop and I know what to do. I don't want to not call me an expert, maybe it is a little off, but I know my way around.
so, if anyone has a solution, let me know.

    Regards and thanks in advance.

In my opinion, it seems that the problem of graphics card.
Black screen means that the display is faulty or chip chart.

But if the internal screen would malfunction, then you should still be able to use the external monitor, but I guess that's not possible, therefore, I think that his GPU problem

  • Power adapter for Toshiba Satellite M40X 129

    Hello guys,.
hope this is the right forum to post my question in:

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40X 129 (model No.: PSM4XE-01600CGR). My adapter is buggered so I need to get a new one. Bought the machine in Germany, now am in Tasmania / Australia. Being in a camp of the Valley remote until April, I won´t be able to go into a store with my laptop to try and understand, that the AC adapter / CC is suitable. We have internet here as our only communication, it is very important for me that sort.

Can someone tell me, what type of adapter / power supply is planned or where to look?

    The one I ve been before is a LITEON, part No.: PA3432U-1AC3, model n °: PA-1750-09, input: 100-240V, 50-60 Hz, 1. 5 a, output: 19V, 3. 95 a.

Thanks for your help and have a nice day
    Peter

    Adapters for your Satellite are:
    PA3432U-1ACA
    PA3432U-1AC3
    PA3432C-1AC3.

Put this number in Google and you will find very precise specifications.

By the way: If you already have the old adapter specifications I put t understand why you need some additional info. If there is no possibility to buy again until April, how do you get a new one?
    Sorry, but I m confused.

  • Satellite M40X-189 - replace HARD disk - what size should I go to?

Hi, I have a SATELLITE M40X-189, I would like to replace the hard drive and would like if possible some recommendations!
I know I need an ide/pata and I currently have a hard disk of 40 GB hitachi 5400 rpm installed. The memory is just what came installed originally, (512 MB, no upgrade).

So what size I can up to?
I have a lot of music/photos and video to change so must also size decent 80 GB would be enough?
I really don't use it for anything other than that, and also the navigation on the internet. Although I often have a few programs running at the same time which causes problems... freeze, (in particular I tunes) and generally slow running.

I'm confident on the physical replacement, and I know how to clone my old drive hard etc, but just need some info about the size and speed and if possible
a recommendation of the manufacturer. Just worried about incompatibility really issues.

Also, if you think I should install more memory, which size and make and model may recommend.

    Thank you in advance!

    Denise.

    Hi mate

First he must know that this question have been posted a lot of time in the forum.
If you want to use the search option, then you will find this thread for example:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=68287

Is the M40X series supports the IDE controller and I think that you need a 2.5 IDE HDD.
The old ide controllers are limited to 128 GB with 28-bit LBA
However, you can take an 80 GB or 120 GB HARD drive and it should work fine

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M40x-230 - display driver lost

    Hi, I'm new here.

I've had this laptop model Toshiba Satellite M40x-230 for about 4-5 years now. The hard drive is full so I thought I would like to remove some unwanted files. I did 2 things

    (1) uninstall some programs that I don't use anymore
    (2) use Disk Cleanup to delete unused files.
I thought I knew exactly what I was remove, but when I did, I found that the display went bizarre.
When I checked, I found that it was showing only a default driver. Worse still, when I went in the trash to try to undo what I had done, he has no files inside.
I tried to do a system restore, but it does not work.

I went on the site of Toshiba and sought the drivers for my laptop. There are 2 options. I downloaded all of them and tried to install. The first one (Intel) said my system did not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. The other is (ATI) said the length of the specified directory path and the name of the installation folder exceeds 88 characters and to shorten it?

Please can someone help me get my display back to how it was. It of usable but looks terrible and base.

I know I'm a model so please be gentle with me.

    Hello

    Try this one:

    ATI

    http://Support1.toshiba-tro.de/Tedd-files2/0/display-20080416165814.zip

    or
    Intel

    http://Support1.toshiba-tro.de/Tedd-files2/0/display-20080416165832.zip

I don't know if your laptop is equipped with Ati or Intel, that's why I posted 2 drivers.

  • Satellite M40x-189 heats up when it is connected to the power adapter

    Hey,.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40x-189, which is about 18 months old. Recently, I had too replace the battery, but now it seems that my adapter had fried itself. He refuses now too charge my cell phone for more than a few minutes and the part of the adapter that goes into the laptop becomes ridiculously hot even after a few minutes.

I can't find where too much to buy a new adapter, I get results, but adapters look totally different, can anyone tell me if Toshiba has changed the cards and where too find a power adapter.

    This may help - adapter PA1650 - T 02:100 - 240V AC 50-60 Hz 65W / 3 pins with 19V DC output.

Also, I find that on the occasions, my laptop just cut. In the middle of everything what I do, and the laptop itself would become so hot, it can't be touched for a few minutes, interestingly, this only happens when the laptop is charging. This problem is not related too my adapter problem, because its been happening for a good month now.

    Thank you, in advance.

    Hello

I saw your first thread on the power adapter and that other users already suggested the power adaptor can be ordered from the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country!
If you n t know how to find the service provider allowed in your country, please take a look on the homepage of European support of Toshiba. You will find a link to the database ASP.

As you have already said the laptop automatically stops downs have nothing to do with the AC adapter.
I agree with you for me, it looks like overheating!
Usually, this happens if fans and cooling modules cannot run with maximum efficiency.
Dust may prevent the complete rotating fan!

I recommend to use the vacuum against the bars of cooling hose to clean the fans!
    It should help!
    But please be careful.
