Satellite M40x - where the memory?

Hi all

I want to improve my memory of 512 MB to 1.5 GB. I bought 1 G RAM and when I plugged in the screen become white and computer laptop does not work. RAM is fine. I have contact the technical service of the seller, and according to them I need to remove the old 512 MB of RAM and plugged it my 1 GB of RAM for my laptop recognize the new RAM.

To do this, I opened my keboard and under what I can only find WLAN in the middle in the left there is another local network. and the far left, I see my DVD - ROM. On the right PC card and what is - this. I don't know where is the 512 MB RAM slot. It is there somewhere.

Is there any expert who can tell me where to find 512 MB RAM slot?

PS: I even call Toshiba support and they said sorry according to policy, we cannot tell you.
If expert laymen captions please help me to solve this problem.

Please

I checked the manual of the Satellite M40x (it can be downloaded from the Toshiba site) and if you look at page 8-7 you can find a description of the memory upgrade.

In my opinion the 512 MB that you already is a built-in RAM that can t be upgraded because the bottom of the laptop is on only one memory slot.

However, I think that it is not a problem to use an additional RAM module, but maybe the new RAM is not compatible with your laptop.
What type of memory you have bought exactly? Maybe you should try it with another.

I hope I could help a bit.

    Hello!

I m not a technician phone but as far as I know locations of memory on this laptop are placed under the keyboard. You must also remove the keyboard and the other parties. It's a little tricky.

I think the best way is that you ask a technician for laptop. They have enough experience to Exchange or upgrade the RAM.

I got the Satellite M40 system after some disk problems, but then I couldn't find the graphical tool displays networks wireless in the vicinity.

    Hello

For WLAN and WIFI configuration you can use the Windows settings. In this case, under connection WLAN properties, you will find an option called display the icon in the tray... when it is connected you can see a small symbol shows the power of the signal.

While you can do if you use the Intel wireless client. If you n t have one that I recommend you visit the Toshiba WLAN website under http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/

You can find the most recent driver for your WLAN card including customer Intel wireless that allows you full control of your home network. Install this client and you'll get what you want.

  • Satellite M40X-149 the use with a digital projector HP 3130

Hi, new to this, so apologies before you start!

I have my M30 laptop and I am trying to link it to a new digital projector - a HP3130.
I connected it, turned everything on, began a slide show on my laptop... toggled buttons FN/F5 (a screen comes up with three images on it, but not the choice on how to choose or use) and nothing appears on the screen.

What should I do to make them work together?
    Any ideas please?
    Thank you very much.

    Paul

What you need to do is to switch to projector before you start any application.
So when you see Office use only FN + F5 key combination to switch to the projector.
When the desktop is displayed, it start the slide show.

  • Satellite M40X-149: where a memory module?

    Hello

I have a satellite M40X-149. I believe that my laptop has a faulty memory - gel randomly, sometimes will not start sound cmos etc. However when I opened the plastic lid it seems to be an empty memory slot. Assume that the memory is either on board or possibly under the keyboard as in some other models of Toshiba.

Could someone tell me first where it is and also if it can be replaced. If it cannot be replaced, is it possible to disable it and use the empty accommodation?

The machine is out of warranty so take it apart is not a problem

    Thanks in advance
    KeV

    Hello

Yes, you are right. The laptop supports 2 locations in memory, but only one is scalable user.
This means that the other is hidden somewhere under the keyboard!
But if you remove the keyboard or any parts, you will lose the warranty.
Therefore the slot is called scalable user because the common user could insert the module without having to open Notepad.

The laptop can be upgraded up to 2048 MB. If one slot can candle 1024Mo!

  • Satellite L650: Where to find the Vista drivers? How to increase memory GPU?

    Hello

I have owned just a satellite L650. I installed windows vista.
Where can I find the drivers?
I downloaded Toshiba, but some drivers are missing.

Can someone tell how to increase the mobility radeon HD5470 512 MB Max 1300 MB video card?

    Thank you

    > Can someone tell how to increase the mobility radeon HD5470 512 MB Max 1300 MB video card?
It is not possible. The graphics card driver it automatically controls and you cannot assign the memory manually.

    > I installed windows vista. Where can I find the drivers?
    Why are you using Vista?
Windows 7 is pre-installed on this laptop and Win 7 is much better than Vista.

However, if you use Vista (but I put t know why someone should prefer Vista Win7) and then drivers can be collected manually.
Here's a nice HowTo that helps find all drivers:

  • Can not find the second slot memory on my Satellite M40x-112

    Hi people,

I want to improve my memory, preinstalled are 2 sticks of 512 MB. In the description it is said that the maximum is 2 GB so I bought 2 x 1 GB, unfortunately I can only find a housing... Is someone can you please tell me where is the other?
    Thank you

    Welcome,
    Sebastian

Well, I found information that one slot is USER scalable. This means that the user can upgrade the memory only in a slot located at the bottom of the unit.

I guess that the second location is hidden somewhere under the keyboard and the keyboard should be removed first to reach the second memory location.
But this would nullify the warranty if you would remove the keyboard by yourself.

In my opinion, you should contact technician tan allowed for this upgrade

  • What Satellite Pro A120-I own? -You want to expand the memory

    Hi all!

I want to upgrade the memory on my Pro A120.
When you are looking for is the right kind, I wonder if I am owner of a
    A120-102
    A120-103
    A120-104
    etc.

    The list goes on and.

I only know that he has a
    Satellite Pro A120 - 10 M
    PSAC1E-0QL054DU

How do I know what AE figure should choose behind the A120 -?

    Someone?

    Thnx!

And where you want to check the type of law?

As you can see from the thumbnail you Satellite Pro A120 - 10 M. It's the answer to your question.
Anyway, the memory modules compatible RAM for your laptop are:
    PA3499U - 1 M 25 (Kit of memory 256 Mo DDR2-667)
    PA3511U - 1 M 51 (Kit of memory 512 MB DDR2-667)
    PA3512U-1M1G (memory 1 GB DDR2-667 Kit)
    PA3513U-1M2G (memory 2 GB DDR2-667 Kit)
    DDR2-533 256 MB (PA3389U - 2M 25)
    512 MB DDR2-533 PA3412U - 2 M (51)
    1 GB OF DDR2-533 (PA3411U-2M1G)

Your laptop can handle with 4 GB of RAM. So if you want to have the maximum amount of RAM, you must use 2 x PA3513U-1M2G.

    I have it? ;)

  • Error and warning before and after the POST - Satellite M40X 129

    Hello

    I use a Satellite M40X-129, bought in 2005.
After you have reinstalled Windows and all the necessary drivers (after more than 3 years, which was the longest time I used a windows ;-)) installation this afternoon, I meet the following situation when starting):

(... check and all the stuff of ram...)
    Updated System Configuration data
    ERROR
    0271: check date and time
    WARNING
0251: System CMOS checksum bad - default configuration used
    Press to resume, installation

When I press F1 to resume, windows starts very well as I'm used to it.
I can also access the configuration and need to update the time setting.

    Two scenarios:
    (a) the startup, shutdown, reboot: error message happen
    (b) setting the time, out of the bios with save the configuration, boot, very well until the stop/restart is required

I tried to download the update of the bios to v1.60, but the configuration tool told me that this version is already in use and it will not progress.

What I wondered: why is it happening? I don't think that the battery power is low, which was suggested to others in other threads, because it happened just after I installed the chipset/utils and other drivers from the toshiba download page.

    What can I do?

-Bios update? -> Where can I find a new version? A tool (which I downloaded from a site linked to Phoenix Technologies) told me, there is an update for my Bios, but he wants me to join a subscription $29.99 / year

-Swap CMOS battery? -> how remove m40x-129, tutorials? Don't want no f * ck it upwards...

    any other advice?

    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards

    Hello

I think that the CMOS battery may be empty and therefore both a given in the BIOS is always changing the default value.

Usually, you should be able to recharge this battery CMOS very easily.
The user manual describes how to load this. Take a look at your manual

As I m not wrong not the laptop must be ON and running and must be connected to the mains for more than 20hours.
Then, the notebooks BIOS battery needs to be recharged again.

    Check it out!

    Good bye
