Satellite M70-159: put disc HARD question

Hello.
I have problem with my laptop Toshiba M70-159.
When I have my laptop turned on, wait 2-5 minutes and my hard drive turn off why? I put in Toshiba Power Saver to never... when I click on some... my hard drive won't power on and I hear it. How can I make my drive hard not power down?

Please help me, I have to get some software or what?

Hello

First of all, I would like to know why you are sure that HARD drive turn off 100%.
If you do not hear that the HARD disc spins, it does not mean that the HDD power off.

    I have a Satellite M70-159 and I am looking to buy a 2.5 external HARD drive ".
I would like to know if the power supplied by the USB port of my laptop is 500mA or 1000mA because the disc external HARD I want to buy needs 1000mA to work.

Eitherwise what I can do to provide external power to work HARD disk?

    Thank you

    Hello

To my knowledge the notebooks USB ports provides the standard power of 500 my.
Generally if an external USB HDD what needs more than 500mA so special, the power cable external power is supplied with version 2.5, HARD drive or HARD drive comes with a double USB cable.
I hear double cable USB cable that supports 2 USB Sockets. In this case, you can connect the HARD drive to two USB ports.

    Hello

How did you create the partition, and you have created the partition for the use of Linux?
The fact is that you cannot use a similar kind of partition for the Windows operating system.

PS: Unfortunately, Toshiba doesn't support the Linux operating system and you will find all the drivers Toshiba for this OS.

All HDD 2.5 "can be put in Satellite M70 or they must have specific dimensions? For example, I thin on Samsung spinpoint [model: http://www.pricerunner.com/pl/36-765680/Hard-Drives/Samsung-SpinPoint-T166-320GB-SATAII-7200rpm-Compare-Prices].

It will be OK for my laptop?

    Hello!

As far as I know the Satellite M70 was available with hard drives SATA and IDE hard drives. If you have a SATA HDD, you can use this HARD drive.

The Satellite M70 takes to load only SATA150 (SATA1) but this isn't a problem. All SATA2 HDDs runs SATA1 mode and are 100% compatible.

  • Re: upgrade memory Satellite M70-159

I have the Satellite m70-159 with 512 RAM and you want to upgrade memory.
Is ddr2 sdram so-dimm PC5300, 667 Mhz kingston 1 G memory compatible with my laptop?
I know that this memory will run as PC4200, but I don't know where to buy PC4200.
    Thank you.

The Satellite M70 can be upgraded to 2 GB of RAM.

The Kingston RAM must be compatible with your laptop because Kingston's high-quality RAM and many users here upgraded with modules from Kingston.
And as you say that the RAM will work as long as PC4200, it is not a problem.

  • Satellite M70 - 159-> update bios-> DVD ROM missing

    Hello
    I have the Satellite M70-159, PSM71E
I made the big mistake, please help and suggestions are welcome.

    History:
I installed Windows XP home sp2
A few days ago I tried to update my hardware drivers (last attempt was a few years ago) and the BIOS too.
So, first of all, I decided to update the bios of 1.30 to 1.50
-bios150win has been downloaded and install completely and it works very well. But since then, that my laptop doesn't see DVD - ROM - it disappeared at all.
WindowsXP says - no CD/DVD-ROM in your stack of material, and I can't boot from bootable CD/DVD drive.

I tried to downgrade the BIOS to 1.30 but the f * ng tool shows me a message that I have more new bios and I do not need to downgrade.
Hey! Toshiba! Please, give me a chance! Just remove your Bios update a few lines of code! Do not check the version of the bios.

PPL! Please help. Because now I can't reinstall OS, I can't burn, I can't get my data, I can't do anything.

    Thank you

Thanks for the info, but could you please post how you solved this?

    Hello.
I have Toshiba M70-159 and I have problem with my HARD drive. My power to drive (FUJITSU MHV2060BH) down from 2 to 5 min... I put in Toshiba Power Saver "Never."
I now read http://www.fel.fujitsu.com/support/disk/manuals/m60_product_manual.pdf and I see maybe APM I put.
How can I configure Mode APM?

    1.11 advanced Power Management (APM)

The hard disk automatically switches to the mode according to energy saving the
setting the APM mode under the inactive state.
The APM mode can be selected with a number of sector register of ALL

The disk complies with the three types of modes of the APM which a command

    (the default) to power off.
The above mentioned is time until the transition to each mode of power based on the point
that the reader becomes a State of waiting for order.

How can I set Mode APM to disable EN = 85 h: disable the APM (Set Mode-0)

Where do I put? Please help me.

    Hello

You can use either the Toshiba Power Saver that controls also the APM mode or you will remove him this tool and then you will use the Windows power management.
Here, you can change the settings for the APM mode.
Unfortunately the other options to disable the APM Mode are not known to me.

  • Question on the increase after upgrading RAM on Satellite M70-159

    Very interesting...
A 128 MB video memory (Sam. D? 70-159). increased the RAM to 2 GB. The volume of retained began to appear as 256 Mb. He worked a HyperMemory? ¢.

If I increase the RAM 4 GB, there will be a video memory 512?

    Hello

This is normal, as the retained will be put how much RAM you have in your system. But if I were you, I would stay on 2 GB because when the upgrade to 4 GB you will only have around 3 GB memory available because the stored will increase to 768 MB or something around. This is not a bug, because the chipset does automatically and unfortunately not possible to manually edit it s.

But don t ask me why this is so. I have the same problem with my Satellite A100 and I Don t really need as much memory graphics.

  • Can satellite A100 - I put the HARD drive with 7200 RPM model?

    Hello

I have a Satellite A100-044, I would spend my the 120 GB HARD drive to a more large (250 GB or 320 GB).

A 7200 RPM would work on this subject? It seems Web compatibility sites they show 5400 RPM more, I would like to set up my laptop for recording/mastering so music wants a fast machine, I don't really mind if it consumes more energy...

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you
    Stone

    Hello!

Of course, you can swap the HARD drive with a model more fast using 7200 RPM. But as you say, it takes a little more energy. The new HARD drive should be a little faster, especially access time should be lower.

250 GB or 320 GB should be possible; you need a HARD drive with SATA interface.

    I hope I could help a bit.

    Good bye
