Satellite P100 - 277 Linux LiveCD Boot from SD card?

Hey there, my first ever post on these forums, and I had a question.

It is possible to unwrap a Linux live CD (like Ubuntu or Mandriva) on a 1 GB SD card (inserted in the multimedia card reader integrated course ;)) and from it?

I tried the boot option 'Reader of floppy Boot', but it completely ignores the card reader (seems not yet-> LED is not light up at all) and one of my friend told me that this is supposed to be the boot disk... But this is no logical, portable computers first of today do not come with floppy drives, and second, all the other computers I have here call boot disks just that... Diskette or... another name clearly designating a floppy drive (something with a removable 3.5 inches)...

So can you help me with this? I tried various Linux distributions, it does not at all.

Well, I've never used the SD card for the start of Linux, but it s very interesting questions
Toshiba provides a utility to clean boot on the SD card. This utility formats the SD card and copy other startup files to start the procedure.

You can try to copy the files from linux on the SD card.
If you want to start to the top of the SD card, you can use the F12 key immediately after the laptop boot then a start menu should appear.
Here you can choose the SD card as a source of start-up

But as I said I m not 100% sure if it works with the Linux files

    Hello

I got a Satellite P100-277, I have formatted and reinstalled windows xp on due to virus issues.

Before I did it, I copied the folder "toolscd" of the HD intern on my external HD.
Now, I reinstalled all the drivers, but with some drivers, there is no setup.exe and I do not understand how I can install these drivers then.

For example, my audio driver, the 'Driver Sound' folder contains DLL, SYS, XML, CAT and INI files.
But I don't know how I can install the driver.

I hope you guys can help me out here, thx!

    > Now, I reinstalled all the drivers, but with some drivers, there is no setup.exe and I do not understand how I can install these drivers then.

Some drivers must be installed in the Device Manager.
Mark the device, push the button update driver and point to the files that are stored on your HARD drive

    > The Toshiba utility for making the bootable SD card...
Now to maybe stupid question, but what is the name of this utility?

As far as I know, computers laptop Toshiba cannot use the SD card as a bootable media and SD slot cannot be used as boot device.

  • BIOS boot from SDHC cards?

I'm putting an Arch Linux installation on a 32 GB SDHC card. I am able to install the required files, but for some reason I can't the SDHC card is displayed in the start menu and UEFI does not seem to work. Of course, I did have luck with UEFI boot on the W530 for some reason any. I can get UEFI work very well on my desk, but not lucky on the W530 of ordinary hard drives or my SDHC card.

The W530 will recognize and boot from SDHC cards who have GRUB installed on them? So far, I have had no luck with that. The card never appears in the start menu. I can't even start the installer images. Boot from USB works fine.

I don't think that the BIOS, he accepts as boot device. You could call something, however.

  • Satellite 210CS: How can I boot from CD?

    Hello

I found my old Satellite 210CS and I want to install Linux on it, but I can not find the floppy drive, I just got the drive of CD-ROM. I changed the boot options in the bios to FDD > HDD but its not not booting from the cd. Y at - it an update of the Bios to boot from CD?

    Hello

He is a former. About 10 years ago.
AFAIK this laptop has an own FDD (floppy) drive and the CD drive is swappable. (You can use both, but not together)
I found information that the BIOS supports that one disc at the time and the CD-ROM drive is not bootable.
If you change the settings in the BIOS for HARD drive FDD so first Notepad starts from the floppy drive, and then from drive hard, but not on the CD!

However, the Toshiba doesn't support Linux and you get not all Toshiba for Linux drivers.
    But haven't found this page:

    Hello

    I have a Toshiba Satellite U400-10j.

I have Ubuntu on my USB flash drive, now I want to boot from it.

I can't find the option in the BIOS to boot from the Usb flash drive.

I could load Ubuntu top then to start the memory stick as well?

Your help will be very appreciated.
    Thank you.

I think that it s not able to boot from a USB key on this laptop.
The best way is to use a CD. There, you can start on this notebook and all other laptops.
In the Internet there are many versions of CD of Ubuntu and other Linux systems.

And as said Feliks, it s not able to boot from an SD card because it is not in the BIOS.

    Hello

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite NB10T-A-101 and want to improve performance by changing the HDD with a SSD and install windows Pro 8.1.

However, I am unable to boot from USB, it always mention:
+ Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. +

I already disabled secure, used 5 + usb startup different sticks (work fine on other laptops).

Can you please tell me what the approach is to change the HARD drive and then boot from a USB bootable (UEFI).

    Thank you.

    Hello

Laptop Satellite NB10T-A-101 was equipped with an Intel CPU 2810 n which is part of the new Intel Bay Trail-M platform.

This new technology Intel Bay Trail allows installation of UEFI capable systems:
    Win 8 or 8.1 Win

    Just a few questions:
Have you already changed the HARD drive to SSD drive?
If so, the new SSD is recognized in the BIOS?
Have you tried to boot from the USB flash memory stick 8.1 Win until you changed your SSD drive?

  • Satellite P100-434 won't boot to the top

Hi Ive got a Satellite P100-434 and Ive had for more than a year.

Unfortunately today I couldn't get started.

The power led lights up, the HARD drive makes light very briefly.
The display lights. If she does not even there to boot in the bios.

Any idea what the problem might be? Im hoping that the CPU or the motherboard is not fried.

    see you soon

    John

Unless you bought the extended warranty, I don't think you have a lot of luck. My suggestion is to return to the place of purchase, if you still have warranty.

However, try to remove the battery for 1 minute and then replace the battery again. Try it turn on.

Also try with the power cable plugged in power and remove the battery.

If all else fails, then you have a very expensive paper weight.

    Good luck.

  • Satellite Pro U400 - can I boot from a USB?

I am wanting to partition the disk and I don't have a blank CD at hand...

Surprised to discover, there is no option the BIOS to boot from devices USB 2.40.

Please can someone confirm for me that this is not possible?

    Thank you.

    L.

Yes, you can boot from USB FDD, primary HARD disk, optical device and network (LAN)
Unfortunately, the USB is not supported ;(

But if you want to create a new partition on the HARD drive you don't need to boot from a USB n.
Are you using the Vista on your Satellite Pro U400?

If so, you can use the Vista Disk Manager to create a new partition.
To reduce the first partition first and then you can create a new partition using a new space on the HARD drive.
