Satellite Pro 4300 series installation of Windows 2000 Professional

Hi guys!

I was given a 2nd hand Satellite Pro 4300 notebook PC series of my brother. Its shows be quite slugglish (over the start time of 20 minutes). I think I'm a format and a new installation of windows 2000 (windows 98se running sound) may be useful. However, I don't have the original recovery disk, although I own an original copy of Windows 2000 Professional.

Would it not be possible to do a full format and install windows 2000? Or would I meet problems, for example with driver problems, later? I know computers cell phones can be a bit of a nuisance when it comes to facilities OS!

Any help and advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Hello

  • Satellite Pro 4300 series - is there an available wireless card

    Hi all

New to this forum I bought an old laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300 series recently as a starter machine for my son. The computer is currently connected to the internet using 3Com Megahertz 10/100 LAN PC Card PCMCIA 3CCFE574BT with dongle connected through hub speedtouch.

Can someone tell me if there is a PC wireless card that I can use with this machine without having to connect wires in the hub.

    See you soon

    Hello

As far as I know, the machine does not support the Wlan and has not been equipped with all Wlan cards.
If you want to connect the computer to the WLan router then I would recommend using a USB WiFi key that would be the simplest solution.

There are different sticks USB Wlan that supports different Wlan standards; 802.11 B or G, you must choose one that is compatible with your WLan router.

The problem is, I'm not an expert in this stuff and don't know how to do it. I have a friend gave me the extra RAM, but as I have lost the user manual, I don't know exactly how to do the upgrade.
I will be grateful if someone can help me. Please consider me as a "dummy" in the explanation. :-(

    Hello

As Lucky said already support memory Expansion can be found in the lower corner of your laptop and it is fixed with two screws. I hope you have the module that is compatible with this unit.

I found the info that Ram module with the PA3005U part number is good.

  • History of models Satellite Pro 4300 series to present date

I have four portable Pro - two 4200 series and two Satellite 4300 series. I would like to have an idea of how many models back they are the current range of SP (I know they are about 6/7 years old). What models came after the 4300 series (and in what order?) Was there a series 4400 etc.? I saw the 4600 series models, but that came after them so far?

Also, can someone explain in simple terms the different designations in the current range of SP - I find very confusing. There seems to be'm ' models, 'A' models models 'L' and 'P' - it's all very confusing, but I don't know there must be a logic diagram of these designations - it's just that I've not yet spotted!

Can someone explain in layman's terms please? Finally, when deciding on a replacement for my aging PC-4200/4300 units, docking station is important. Anyone know what models in the Toshiba (not only range SP) range have a capacity?

    See you soon.

    Hi Steve

I put t know if I can give you a precise answer, but I'll give my best. First of all it is important that the description of the SP series is slightly different and it depends on what country it was produced. For example, MS 4200 and 4300 is listed as a model for the Canada. For the American market, there are for example 4320, 4340 and 4360. For Europe 4310CDS, CDT 4310, 4320 CDT, 4330CDS and 4340CDT models. As you can see that the description of the model is not the same.

I put t know how models SP are designed up to now, I found info on some of them:
    -Canada 4600, 6000, 6100, M10, M40 and M70
    -Europe 4600, 6000, 6050, 6070, 6100, A10, A30, A40, A60, A100, L10 - C, P - L10, L20, M10, M30, M40, M40X, M70 and P100.
American models are not known to me, but try to see the Toshiba U.S. page.

Description C means that the unit has CPU Intel-Celeron-M.
Description P means that the unit has CPU Pentium M (Centrino).

Docking station capacity - Satellite Pro (not all models) and portable series business Portege Tecra (all models).

That's all I know abut that. Forgive me if I forgot something.

    Good luck!

  • Strange problem with the module memory series Satellite Pro 4300

I have a laptop Toshiba satellite pro 4300 series with 64 MB onboard + 64 MB Module and I want to upgrade my memory to 320 MB. I bought two ram of 128 MB each. I removed the 64 MB module and I put a 128 MB module into the slot (A) one, but I saw that the total memory is 128 MB again.

I removed the module again and I put the second module in the connector (A), but I saw that the total memory is 128 MB again. After that, I put the two modules in my notebook (Slot A and slot B) but I see that the total memory is 192 MB. This means that it recognizes each module as 64 MB as opposed to 128 MB. Dose anyone know why this happens?
And what do I do about it?

    Thank you.
    [email protected]

    Hello

Well, I put t know why this happens. It seems that the 128 MB modules are 64 MB modules. I know that it of strange but I have only this explanation. You are 100% sure that both modules of memory 128 MB?
In my opinion, you should check the bars of memory if they have 128 MB.

  • Brightness of the display on Satellite Pro 4300 very dark

    Hello
I have an old Satellite 4300 Pro that I've updated for my daughter last summer.
I spent some time just right, put the upgrade of memory maximum and the installation of Windows 2000.

She just gave it me as she has a new model... and I need the laptop.
In any case, although it starts, the screen is very dark... totally unusable.
Oddly, the display is dark during the part of the BIOS of the start-up routine as well.

I tried many combinations of keys F nothing helps.
    Any suggestions?
    Phil

    Hello Phil

Pleae note that use of the combination of keys for brightness settings work, just at the moment where OS is started and if some Toshiba designed tools are pre-installed. If this happens when starting laptop too and the BIOS settings are not visible properly I assume the inverter FL (backlight) is defective and must be replaced.

  • Satellite Pro 4300 - keys pressed "automatically".

I have a problem with a series of Satellite Pro 4300 keys seem to have pressed automatically making me lose control of the computer frequently.
I thought it might me some virus or spyware, but I formatted and reinstalled the operating system and the problem continues immediately (even before you install any other software!).

I think it's a hardware problem, because sometimes, even when I turn on the computer, the message asking to press F1 to enter BIOS setup appears, and this message should appear only if the ESC key was pressed; also at this stage of startup no software has yet run.

Usually, I'm able to connect, use the computer for a while and then it seems to start by pressing the keys of way uncontrolled, causing the pop-up help windows, closing windows, I train, blocking certain keys etc..

Has anyone else had a problem like this?
Don't you think it's a hardware problem? Can you think of a solution to this?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    HI Gustavo,

Really, it sounds like a problem with your keyboard. I recommend you only to contact a Service Agent to get the extract.

  • Satellite Pro 4300 no recovery mode standby

I have a Satellite Pro 4340 is no longer recovers from sleep mode. I used to be able to press the standby on my wireless keyboard and she would go to sleep mode, and then flick the power switch and it would "wake up" to always to sleep but when I flip the switch, the computer makes a complete reboot and then passes through a disc to check for corruption etc.. I'm on Windows 2000 Professional, but do not have the original installation disc or discs which is come with the laptop as I bought it from a previous employer when they improved portable and it came with all the discs.

Anyone can shed some light on this? It's almost as if a key file or involved in the process of sleep and recovery of files have been deleted or corrupted. Also, I checked the settings of Toshiba power and they have not been accidentally changed. I would add that I run normally with the screen down using a screen remotely and use a wireless keyboard. Suggestions welcomed.

    Hello

Sorry, but it's really not easy to explain why this happen. You have the same situation if you switch to standby using usual shutdown option or simply by using your wireless keyboard?

  • Unable to boot CD on a Satellite Pro 4300

    Hello world

I recently tried to install Ubuntu on a Satellite Pro 4300.
The problem is that I can't boot any CD, except those made by Toshiba. In the BIOS, I select the option "CD-ROM", but it goes straight to Windows.
I also updated the BIOS to the latest version, but the problem is still there.
Then I tried to create a linux floppy with Smart Boot Manager but when I select the "CDROM" line, I always get error 0xAA.

I don't think it's a hardware problem: when windows was installed, I was able to read any cd.

Is there something I forgot to do?
Thanks for the help!... Sorry for my bad English... .and!

Have you tried to test with some other bootable CD, for example Microsoft WXP CD facilities?

  • Satellite Pro 4300 - memory upgrade problem

    Hello

I know that the issue has been already discussed several times, but it seems that none of the solutions or suggestions posted earlier apply to my situation.
I recently bought an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300. The laptop has a slot filled memory of 64 MB module of the system's total memory was 128 MB.
Because in my opinion, the system has worked to slow down, I decided to buy an additional memory module. I bought 128 MB - module TOSHIBA PA3005U k and placed in the slot B

I was very surprised when I found that, after the upgrade, Windows showed that the total memory is 192 MB.
When I put the 128 MB in the slot module is and the old module of 64 MB in the slot B - the surprise was even bigger, given that windows showed only 128 MB.

I first thought that the slot B is defective, but in this case, it would be impossible to get in the first place the 192 MB. Then I thought that the new module of memory was either defective or it was 64 MB instead of 128 MB, but this option is also likely, according to my observations. Furthermore, I checked with EVEREST software system and it recognizes the new module as 128 MB module, but does not see the old 64 MB module.

The situation is quite strange. Does anyone has an idea whay happens?

    Kind regards

    Sebastian

To my knowledge, the 4300 Satellite Pro can be upgraded to 320 MB max.
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5769&ft=m&St=3

64 MB module which was fitted with your laptop should not be removable.
So in this slot ONLY this 64 MB module could work properly.

I know it's strange but the computer world is sometimes strange ;) you know :D

    Greetings

  • With Satellite Pro M-series LCD projector problems

    Hello

I use a Toshiba Satellite Pro M series for more than a year. I would like an answer to a problem that I've had since I bought my laptop. When I use a LCD (beemer) projector to watch movies on the big screen, he seems to be a problem. When I choose to show my desktop on screen you there is no problem. When I open a video file, divx or just a DVD I can see the movie on the screen of my laptop, but I don't see on the projection screen. It is only black. When I choose the mode full screen, there is always the same prob. Very strange because when I chose the projector as 2nd screen and I slide the film into the second screen, I can see the movie on the projection screen. The only thing that I hate divx and mediaplayers readers when you select full screen on the second screen, the film jumps on the first screen (the one on my laptop). I tried all the codecs and other things. Nothing seems to work.

Has anyone treats these problems before? Please let me know if anyone knows how to solve this problem.

    Kind regards
    Compton

    Hi refill,

I thinnk it may be a driver configuration problem, but to solve it, I need to know what mobile phone do you use?

    Satellite Pro M?

Also would be nice to know what operating system is runing (OS recovery or another image) and what version of driver display that you use!

    Goodbye Chris

  • Satellite Pro L Series - lack of strikes

I have a Satellite Pro L Series with keyboard, mouse, etc. connected via a Toshiba "USB 2.0 Port Replicator II". When I use the keyboard, occasional keys are ignored (so I have to go back after you type anything to insert strikes ' % is). Also, from time to time a key combination is repeated constantly until I intervene to stop it.

This does not occur when I use the computer without the port replicator, so the problem seems to relate to the port replicator itself. EDT doesanyone experience a similar problem, or ideas on how to fix it?

The USB keyboard is maybe defective. Have you tested on another PC?

Bad drivers can also cause. If you have installed drivers/utilities keyboard, or a mouse Logitech/Microsoft/other, uninstall them. They may be in conflict with the default drivers.

  • Satellite Pro M30 series deactivates the WLan connection

I have an old Satellite Pro M30 series. Whenever I turn on the wireless signal, the computer closes its doors.
I assume that the driver's latest version.

I'm not known for that Yes, there is someone out there who can advise me on where to find the latest driver and install it.

    Assuming this is the problem.

    Thank you
    Gibbsey

    > spend a lot of time on the wireless signal, the computer closes its doors.

What do you mean exactly by farm down?
The laptop turns off automatically once the WiFi (switch) card is turned on?

I put t think this would cause obsolete WLan driver, this sounds like a hardware problem.
In case it of not possible to use the internal WiFi card, I recommend to use an external USB WiFi dongle.
    Would be the best option

PS: all the drivers for old Toshiba laptops are placed on the page of the Toshiba UE driver.
You will need to search the archives (in the product Type click Archive) for a list of the old series of laptop computer.

  • Satellite Pro L650 series - the error screen white balance

    Hi all
I use a Satellite Pro L650 series. When I use the laptop for several hours, my screen becomes bad white balance. In detail, the screen clears so dazzling with the strange white color. If I open a Web site, the pictures on the website becomes blurry images.
If I put the screen in blue, she can't make easy the dazzling color, but if I put the screen in white or green and yellow, then it becomes abnormal colors and fuzzy.

I have to restart my computer, and this problem can be solved.

Is there anyone encounter this problem like me?
Could you share to me what is the problem? and what is the solution for this problem?

    Thank you very much

    Hello

Have you noticed this screen problem laptop with mains running or simply using the battery?

I read about the problem of similar laptop screen which was related to the Intel display power saving technology.

In this case, you could solve this disabling this feature. Go to Intel display panel - conservation power source/battery - power tab function - saving technology display and uncheck this option.
