Satellite Pro 4600 memory problem

What is the problem with this model? I bought second-hand laptop computer with 2 x 256 MB of RAM. After a few days memory module stops working (not recognized by the system), the next second module memory stops working. Problem is no slot, the two modules are defected some how. I bought memory as new ATC-SO815 AEC memory ten (www.memoryx.net), after one of the modules of memory stops working. BIOS is the latest Toshiba, version 2.60. Looks that mainboard burned some how the modules of memory, it's not good for me, I've already spent too much money for this laptop.
What's wrong??? Is there a solution for this situation?
I can't buy laptops and parts constantly, I don't have a lot of money.

Hello

How do you know that the problem is not associated with mainboard? I mean, you're a technician to know?

As your machine is really old and you got no warranty on it, try the following:

Install both modules of memory and make sure that the machine starts correctly.
Download the latest knoppix (linux live CD), burn it to a CD, boot from this CD and choose at the start of the 'memtest '.

Let memtest run for a day. If memtest reports no errors with your memory (you can see if the modules are defective), then your motherboard is faulty.

So try this method and give feedback on your progress...

Welcome them

I have twice had problems trying to upgrade memory to my Satellite Pro 4600, so I decided to ask directly if Kingston KTC-SO133/256 MB is compatible with this machine?

It's the SODIMM I'm about to try next, but I have to pay for it first.

Problems were that the SODIMM modules is not compatible with the wonderful piece of memory or it won't work at all with Toshiba.

Is there an availave list what type of bars of memory are compatible?

Sorry, I can tell you that I use the Original from Toshiba 'PA3069U - 1 M 25' memory (its a KIT of MEMORY of 256 MB)

    works great!

  • PC133 is suitable for Satellite Pro 4600 memory upgrade?

    Hi all

I'm looking for an extra 256 MB memory module for my Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. The specs say one module of memory PC100 is necessary, but I was wondering if the PC133 modules would work as well. If so, are there problems with the mixture of the modules (PC100 and PC133)?

    Thank you for your attention.

According to the information on the site of very useful memory module, it should be possible to use the PC133 144 pin SODIMM modules.

I found this info on this site:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5778&ft=m&St=3

In addition I don't recommend mixing the different modules. To my knowledge the lower speed module will decrease the performance of the memory. The two modules will work with the operation of the lower module.

  • Is this appropriate for a Satellite Pro 4600 memory?

    Hi all

I wonder if this memory will be suitable for my brothers satellite pro 4600:

I intend to get 2 sticks and replace the stick of 128 MB with them, so there are 512 in the machine altogether - which should make windows xp run a little faster!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

It seems that the module must be compatible.
According to the description she s a 144-Pin PC133 SODIMM.

    I visited this site useful:

You will also find the compatible module for Satellite Pro 4600
The site recommends the use of the PC133 SODIMM 144 pin and you could improve it to max 512 MB (2x256MB)

  • Satellite Pro A60 - memory problem?

I have a machine at 3 years which became progressively slower, especially at the start. I installed original specification and use the installed MS Firewall and Antivirus it.

Opportunities, with more than 1 window/application open, the screen freezes during use. On other occasions, I get an error message (something like) "Out of Memory Line 56", press OK and then displays the information.

I wonder if an upgrade memory will solve these problems? Thank you

Hmmm, you can simply test the memory using the freeware as Memtest86 +.

    > was wondering if an upgrade memory will solve these problems?

Upgrade memory always improves the performance of laptops.
But the question is whether this problem is related to the fault memory or to of memory performance.
For me, it looks like a malfunction of memory.

Try to remove a module, and check if the same error message using that one module of memory.

  • Satellite Pro 4600: display problem

The laptop overheated (for the previous owner). When I bought it all was going well, but after 2 days (not more), the screen started showing artifacts many and varied, beginning with the Toshiba start screen.

Can it be cured without changing the motherboard or a Toshiba scored another goal by integrating everything?

You bought a second hand unit?
I'm afraid, it seems that you have bought a laptop with the hardware malfunction m

Well, I think the problem is the graphics card. This could be a previous result of overheating
But have you tried to connect the laptop to the external display?

In this case, you can check if the same problems appear on the external display.
If yes--> the graphics card to the Board of Directors must be corrupted
If not-> there could be something wrong with the screen of the laptop or part of the screen

  • Satellite Pro 4600: question strange memory - memory seems

    Hi all

for the second time in 18 months, I have strange problems with cards of memory (2 x 256 MB 144-Dimm PC133) of my satellite pro 4600: from one day to the other, the memory seems to reach "grilled" as the old light bulbs. Before that I used the satellite pro 4600 for several hours and the surface on the maps of memory had very hot.
Y at - it anyone out there facing the same problems? On the replacement: should I better go for chips PC100 PC133 instead?

    Thanks in advance: Bernie

    Hello

The fact is that recommend Toshiba using these memory modules:
    PA3003U - 1 M 03 32MB MEMORY KIT
    PA3004U - 1 M 06 64 MB MEMORY KIT
    PA3005U - 1 M 12 128 MB MEMORY KIT
    KIT MEMORY OF 256 MB PA3069U - 1 M 25

    It seems that PA3069U - 1 M 25 256 MB PC100 module.
Well, as you have suggested that memory cards got very hot. In my opinion the fastest PC133 produce a high temperature, and this could be a problem.

  • Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 problems

Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 is usually a large equipment once it works! I have bought in December 2001 + additional 2 year warranty. Used every day for a business purpose - mainly on a desk anchored to the Port Replicator or inside-out of the office with WiFi.

Almost after a year I bought it - one of the memory locations died on the motherboard! A machine still worked OK - only on a slot with installed memory capacity! So the 256 MB of memory and motherboard have been replaced by September 2002.

Then the hard drive was noise - has been replaced as a guarantee somewhere in October 2004. So I thought that it is her - I have now a few years without problem again!

Yes - all of a sudden a few days ago, I closed the lid for a coffee brake and after that the machine woke up to a strange sleep - the screen flickered and a machine was muzzy! Like the previous night failures that occurred before that I thought that this restart will solve the problem! It s woke up without the support of the voice! And after that I discovered that the WiFi card is always on - no matter if you switch the button on or off! If the service said that probably the motherboard has not once again!

So, which brand and model to buy then?

    > And after that I discovered that the WiFi card is always enabled.
    > - no matter switch you on or off! So that the
    > service provided that said probably the
    > motherboard has yet again!

same thing with my nine M30 I bought last summer. I can't be able to turn off the WiFi keyboard functionality. the light is still on too.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - how to extend RAM memory

I want to increase the RAM in my old Satellite Pro 4600.

-Someone could advise me which of the (actually existing) types of RAM cards are suitable?
-The laptop has a maximum memory limit, or I can go up to 1 GB (for example)?

    Thank you.

Of course, there are some limitations to upgrade!
You can upgrade the memory on this laptop to max 512 MB (2 x256MB)!

You can use PC133 144 pin SODIMM as mentioned modules [here: | http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=28447&ft=m&st=3]

Memory locations must be placed at the bottom of the unit.

    -Turn the computer
-remove the screws which fix the plug memory module cover
-slide you finger under the hood a lift it off.
-mount the fittings of modules in connectors of computers at a 45 degree angle, then press the modules carefully to ensure a good contact
-push the module down so it lies flat. Locks on each side will engage in the place to fix the module.

    All that... easy s ;)

  • Satellite Pro 4600 battery recognition problem

    Hi all

I have a strange problem with my Satellite pro 4600 (SP460E-03371-G3) laptop. I have the battery with the AC adapter unplugged, but the battery indicator turns on (no green, not orange). And the laptop does not start when I push the power button. It's like when the battery is discharged. When I plug in the power adapter, AC power light turns green, Notepad starts OK. And cams CIHI surprise: when I plug the AC everything works perfectly on battery power, but still no sign of the green or orange battery indicator. If I check the power state in Windows XP, the system indicates that the laptop works on current alternative, but the AC is disconnected. Why is this?

    Thank you

    Hello Ákos

I'm sure that there are defects of electronic power to your laptop. As you can see electronic is confused and the battery is not recognized correctly.

In my opinion, you should contact the Service of your country partner and ask them what is the best way to solve this problem.

  • Problems connecting to a Satellite Pro 4600 for network wireless home

    Hello
My computer has a processor Athlon 64 x 2 4200 + and 2 GB of RAM, with XP2 Pro. I have a Linksys WRT54GS broadband router and connected with Virgin Media.

My daughter gave me an old laptop a Satellite Pro 4600 with a 747 MHz Celeron processor, 384 MB of RAM and XP2 Pro has an Intel Pro/100 VE Network adapter. I set up a Linksys Wireless - G Notebook Adapter with SRX (model No. WPC45GX), so that I could use around the House. However when I try to connect to the home network, although he "finds" a list of networks, I am unable to connect and get an error message - "Windows cannot connect to the selected network (my home network). The network can be is no longer in range. Please refresh the list of available
    networks and try again. »

I tried to connect with laptop computer in the same room as the router, but get the same message. In the Manager of peripheral devices, network cards, the two are shown and both work properly, but in the taskbar there is a red cross shown on the two icons, they say that a network cable is unplugged, but I don't have a cable network.
The other tells me that the wireless is not connected.

I presume that the adapter works as it can 'see' wireless networks, I used Lynksys support to verify that all router and adapter settings are correct.
My wife has a new laptop and is able to connect to the home network with no problems.

Please can someone offer advice or assistance.

    GMC

for some reason, you need to turn off your wired connection (cable) and use the client of the PCMCIA wireless network card. Maybe just the problem that your system can not separate the two network connections and gets an error it s. You should also visit the site Web of Linksys and download the latest driver and the customer for the card, so you can make sure that the software is up to date.

Another good idea would be to visit www.microsoft.com and the support center for any 'knowledge base documents' which could probably solve the problem.
As your machine is really old and no one is using PCMCIA cards more, you may wait a long time for an answer in this forum. Maybe you should check the site from linksys for a support section. Maybe they could help you...

  • Satellite Pro 4600 and WiFi configuration problem

Got a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600, under WXP SP3. It s a P3 900 mhz with 256 RAM and it s a great laptop, but peut t seem to understand the Wi - Fi.
It captures my router ok sky open a Wi - Fi connection, but it s the config, when I put the WEP key it says it is not compatible with WEP, WPA only s.

I put the ssid for the router ok but it won t accept the key/passphrase in there it says s not long enough.
Could someone point me in the direction of a guide of idiots for this configuration?
Wi - Fi is built-in and it s a Toshiba mini PCI
    Thank you

    Hello

    For me the case sounds very clear;
You can't put the encryption key just because the WEP key is not compatible / supported.

I think you should use encryption that is supported by both parties; router and wireless network card

  • Satellite Pro 4600 very unstable and BSOD

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro 4600 c750/128 with xp installed.
It was ok, but slow, so I've updated at 500 MB of memory.

He now became unstable under windows and throw a screen blue after awhile, which is a related, but firm and we will restart until I have a chance to read the error message.

I tested the new memory from one day to the next with memtest and run 4 passes all tests without error, about 9 hours of operation (on the back).

The event log indicates a discharge, but this does not mean a lot to me.
The event log has an error during startup, what was there before the memory upgrade.
Googling Sugest a fix to update the bios, it's always available for this laptop bios?

The BIOS should be available for this former Satellite Pro 4600.
The BIOS and drivers must be placed on the page of European driver of Toshiba.
Here, you will need to search the Archives!

But I doubt that the error is caused by the BIOS.
Is the laptop ran stable also with the previous BIOS and it foolish to update the BIOS to fix this problem.
I'm sure it won't change anything!

Upgrade the RAM and BSOD appears now.
I think that the problem is related to the RAM, even if the ram test didn't find any errors
The RAM may be not compatible also if no error has been detected.

I recommend that you test the laptop without the new RAM and check if the BSOD will appear again.

I think that Don t, they're broken, but is there a way to activate the second Bank? The active bank ist of black color, the inactive Bank is white in color. I tested all banks on each laptop, but it's the same on the second laptop.

    Hi Dieter

As much as I know there is no option to turn RAM slots. If the RAM is the right of a y (compatible) shouldn't be a problem.

I don't know that you are trying to use but is a module that is compatible with this unit:

    PA3005U - 1 M 12 128 MB
