Satellite Pro A10: update Bios without floppydrive?

On my A10 SP I have bios version 1.20 now I found 1.30 on this Web site.
But I can only update with a disk according to the Web site. And the problem is that my A10 is not a floppydrive. How can I update my bios to 1.30? Can I boot from the CD or USBkey and try to update the bios?
When I download the bios on this site, with that I get an executable file wants to write sectors on 1, 44 mb diskette.
(it's a bootable diskette)

What can I do to make it possible upgrade of bios?

Hello

Fist question: why you want to update the BIOS?
Have you had problems with your unit?

I use my laptop for 6 years and I've never update of the BIOS. It of not necessary for me because everything works fine.
If you have any problems you shouldn't t update the BIOS because the BIOS upgrade procedure is dangerous.

Wrong or bad BIOS BIOS can damage the motherboard.
If you want to know how to update BIOS please check the Toshiba FAQ:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/FAQ.jsp?service=EU&FID=TRO0000000b07

PS: You must use the FDD drive because it of not possible to use a CD or USB key

  • Satellite Pro A10 - updated DVD player

Hello. I bought this laptop with a DVD player, but upgrade to a DVD - RW so that I can burn DVDs. Anyone know if it is possible to buy an internal DVD RW burner drive for this model of Satellite Pro or should I just a USB external DVD burner?

    Thank you

    Hiya,

You can certainly replace your DVD drive with a new DVD burner, but you will need to make sure that you get a new device with the same form factor (physical dimensions) and also one that is on the characteristics of good connection (master, slave, or C/salt).

I suggest that you only contact your nearest ASP to check compatible DVD burners.

  • Question about BIOS for Satellite Pro A10 files

    Hello

I have Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 and later yesterday, he won't, he past the TOSHIBA start screen and then black with a flashing cursor, it didn't leave me in advanced settings or the settings of the BIOS, a friend told me I need to Flash BIOS, I came across the site and found only a BIOS update and management told me to use the floppy drive , he said when I unzip the file I get an .exe file which I opened and it will give me three files, one for the CD ROM, one for the floppy drive and the third I don't remember, but it didn't happen, when I unzipped the files in a temporary folder, but I never had the files.

I think I had to have it on my own laptop, and then it would be extracted properly, because my laptop does not work I can't do and even if I put the files on a disk, they are too big.

    Then...

Where can I get the files from the BIOS that I can put on a floppy disk and then I can boot from that disk and it will fix the BIOS?

    Thank you

    Hello

    OK, follow these steps:

Burn the file bios to CD on a CD, boot from it and update your bios. It's a simple and easy way. I Don t understand why it shouldn´t work, given that I ve updated my bios in the same way. I burned the image to CD and booted from this CD.

Please answer perhaps you just made a mistake when you think to (I sometimes do too much, not often, but it happens..)  :)

  • SD-C2612 IDE #1 error after wrong firmware update - Satellite Pro A10

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10, which was flashed with wrong firmware (I don't know which because I don't).

I tried flashing with the right firmware (1315) but get the message to the Primary Master and Slave as "Not ATAPI Device" and "drive not connected".

NB: at the start, even with the deleted DVD ROM, I always get the #1 error IDE.

Update the bios to the latest version would help or is there all the options open for me to solve this problem other than to have recourse to the connection of pin 47 & 45? Would it even solves?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

    Best regards
    Angus

    > I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10, which was flashed with wrong firmware (I don't know which because I don't).

Lol :D I have don t wonder you get the IDE #1 error message.
As you say yourself, you have flashed the drive with the wrong firmware. This has damaged the master/slave/c-salt settings of readers and so the BIOS doesn't recognize the CD/DVD drive. But I wonder why someone flashing the drive with a bad firmware?  :| We still know that a wrong firmware can damage the CD/DVD drive... and above all it is not necessary to update the firmware.

    > Update the bios to the latest version would help
The BISO update will not help you because you have already good BIOS and it s NOT a problem of BIOS, but the evil and not compatible firmware is stored.

    > or are there options open for me to solve this problem other than to have recourse to the connection of pin 47 & 45? Would it even solves?
I'm don't know if this helps, but I know that it is not desirable because it may damage the material of CD/DVD players

I recommend you contact the ASP in your country guys might revive the CD/DVD drive. Let's hope

  • Satellite Pro A10 - CD/DVD drive - updated?

I have an A10 and a few remnants of the A15 which I cannibalise the parts.
The A10 has DVD playback only, while the A15 motorway had features of reading / writing DVD.

Desperately the A10 BIOS does not recognize the A15 CD/DVD drive.
Anyone know if it is possible to obtain this recognition - could I swap chips BIOS with the A15 for example?

This machine is my toy and I have it running with a Pentium 4 M 2.4 GHz and 1 GB of ram (frustrating it does not accept the sticks of 1 GB!).

    Hello
You can only use the BIOS that came out for the Satellite Pro A10 series and which is available on the Toshiba page.

But why you n t use a CD/DVD drive that is compatible with the model Satellite Pro A10?

I found the user manual [here: http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/userman-en-20090121085356.zip]

On page 4-7 you will find info on the STRANGE devices supported by Pro A10

  • Satellite Pro A10 stops during the installation of Windows

I have a satellite Pro A10, which stops during the installation of Windows. The installation gets to the part where I need to select the HARD drive to install, then the system off just. I can restart it immediately, and the sdame happens.

If I enter the BIOS, everything is detected OK, and I've updated to the latest version (V1.4). Also when in the BIOS, the system will remain under tension for ever and a day! and no downtime. I have a couple of diagnostic CD, then run the tests is the same thing, but I ran the seagate diagnostic tool and the HDD OK passes, as does the main map, but cannot perform detailed testing that the system shuts down during the tests.

I suspect an overheating issue but would like advice.

Hmmm it s very strange. I thought that the HARD drive could malfunctions but it of very impossible if the HARD drive has passed the Seagate diagnostic test.

However, it would be very interesting to know if the installation of the OS would end with another HARD drive.
You know, it of always difficult to provide an exact solution without any diagnostic tests.

For me, it really looks like a hardware malfunction. So perhaps it would be advisable to contact the authorized Toshiba maintainer for a control of the laptop.
Guys could run tests and would situate the fault quickly.

    Thank you very much

    Hello

Usually, if you have a laptop wireless switch should have a wireless LAN card too. In your case I would try to install the driver. Then the WLAn card should appear correctly in Device Manager:

If that doesn t work, you can try a BIOS update.

  • Satellite Pro A10 - SP2 or 3 slows the performance of XP?

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro A10 PSA15E that, over the years, had become very slow.

Recently, I upgraded it's RAM from 256 to the maximum of 1 GB to try to speed things up, but it did not help.

Then I reformatted the hard drive and reloaded the system using the Toshiba recovery disks. It worked well and the system performance has been excellent. However, with online safety in mind, I loaded the Windows SP2 (to go then to SP3) and it took the system back to where I started - very, very slow, in fact pretty much unusable.

Does anyone know if Toshiba compatible SP2 and SP3 on this laptop model?

If yes how install them without killing performance?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello!

According to me, SP2 or SP3 is supported on this Toshiba laptop because two Service Packs are contains important security updates and I think that's not the problem.

If you install SP2 or SP3 you also get the center of security and better Windows Firewall. Maybe you should disable these two services given that the slowdown in the performance of the system (I always disable the two services).
Just go to start-run-services.msc online online and disable both services and set the startup type to disabled.

  • Satellite Pro A10 - IDE 1 # error at startup to the top

HI, I have a Satellite pro A10 and everything is working very well in recent years to date.
A few days ago I started having a cd read error / invalid dvd disc format still drives fine on all the other PCs work.

Today as I get #1 error on boot up IDE... the laptop is always standard when I got off the shelf. thinking the drive might be dead due to wear I replaced the drive with a drive to work and I still get the same error. I removed the completely STRANGE and yet to come.

I also updated the usb floppy bios that has been a success. and the best part of all this. the dvd - rom supplied with the laptop works fine in my other a10 tosh!

Someone at - it ideas. I really need to replace the motherboard if I can help it. This is the only problem with the laptop.

    THX in advance people.

    Hello James

IDE 1 # error is typical when ODD is not accepted by the system. The reason may be defective drive or the use of non-compliant readers. The fact is that each player can not be used with all portable models because of the allocation of the different pins.

In your case, it is really strange that the work by car on other A10 but not on this one. Because of this, I presume that there may be a problem with connectors. I'm afraid there is not much to do. You can try to check out them and see if they are clean and not oxidized.

Sorry, but we cannot speculate what may be the problem but, as you know, only intensive test may give you more answers.

Good luck and let us know if you will find what is the problem of resources.

    Hello

If anyone can help me, I would be most gratefull.
I just installed a Western hardrive digital 120 gig on a toshiba laptop Satellite Pro A10 on XP. at first start it comes up with this media test failure check cable.

It takes time to boot into windows, then the sound of windows appears about 10 seconds after office charge up. any help on this?

Also the DVD rom drive does not read DVD only CD.

    Model DVD is SD-R2412

And y at - it anyway tke that windows loads faster and it should install the driver sound max or the Realtek AC.

Can someone let me know ASAP thanks syclonus.

If you order the boot priority and start first of all of the HARD drive you will get this error more.
Then will the BIOS with the ESC key and change it.

Did you test different DVD in the drive? I think it might be a hardware problem. For a long time, I had a similar problem, my drive wrote DVD CD only.

There is a lot of advice how to make Windows faster. I can give you the same examples: defragment your HARD disk, check to see how many programs is in the msconfig startup folder. Disable or remove any programs you don't need.
In addition, you can disable all services that you don't need (run > services.msc). Make sure what you do, but I always disable updates automatic, Security Center, time Windows, help and support, themes and so far away.
Clean the registry. To do this, I always use the CCleaner tool. A very good tool and it s freeware.
And if make you faster Windows startup sound comes perhaps at the right time.

All the drivers, that you can get on the Toshiba site. It of not necessary to install one or several sound card drivers.

    Hello

Just use the recovery disks on my Satellite Pro A10, no problem with the sound, and then upgraded to XP Home with SP2, no noise.

What I've read elsewhere, this is a problem and there seems to be an answer. I spent hours looking for drivers updated without success.

I have also contacted Toshiba support, after blow and blow that they reported the following driver, 5.12.01.3542, which is the same one that I have already installed and does not work.

Certainly there must be something out there that works.

  • Satellite Pro A10 with XP SP2 works very slowly

I have a Satellite Pro A10; 256 RAM with 18 GB of HARD drive. (In think it was sold as a nominal 20GB).
It's not particularly loaded with the software, even if the HD is about 90% full and is used primarily for surfing the Internet and word processing. It runs very slowly and has been making slower and slower.

Click on an item oin the Start Menu, for example to open IE and takes literally 10 to 20 minutes to open the window under construction very slowly... really!

I have Norton Internet Security and Norton System Works and the different uses do not find anything wrong, they report. Speed disk to run after a month, but also the system scans for viruses.

I'm going back to the top upgrade RAM 1024 and also believe that a BIOS update is available but do not know how this will change the performance, or not at all.

I know there must be other things I need to do to improve the speed. It is virtually unusable at the moment.

What tests can I do to pin point problems and then how can I fix?

    Hello

In recent years, I've used the Norton Internet Security and I was not satisfied. The point is that it is a good security tool, but it significantly slows down the performance of the computer laptop or computer. Now, I m using the freeware antivirus software called AntiVir.

I see your computer laptop support only 256 MB of RAM. It is certainly not sufficient to use the Win XP smoothly.
Other reasons could be overloaded HDD.

Due to the low value of RAM, the laptop uses the area on the HARD disk for paging. Paging is an important part of virtual memory. It allows to use the HARD drive for data that does not fit in physical RAM.

All of these are responsible by the performance of your laptop.

By the way; It is perhaps also a time for a new installation of the OS.
