Satellite Pro A120 - clock system is slow

Hi all,

Since a few days on my Satellite Pro A120 Windows XP system clock is slow (the data are correct).
Usually I realize it after turning on the laptop, sometimes even when the operating system is woking! I tried all types of virus/malware/spyware scan, system restore point. I guess the problem is the used battery from the RTC. Is it possible even if the data is correct?

Thanks in advance

Marco

I'm afraid I n t m understand what you mean by system clock is slow.
The BIOS clock shows incorrect data or time?

Have you tried to change the time in the BIOS and then to check the time in Windows XP?

Do this!

  • Operating system on Satellite Pro A120 freezes

I've recently updated bios to the most recent available. After that, I rebooted and now windows freezes at the point where it seems to load driver ACPI. Then after about 10 seconds, fan gets boosted to 100% of the speed and then it will not go further. I also tried to reinstall the system, but once it is done with the progressbar that both vista and xp to run before the installation, it freezes again.

Last thing I tried was to run Windows XP (security error) which works very well. To me, it seems that the bios has a problem any. Anyone know what can be the problem?

    Hey dude,

Please don t forget that Vista has been installed on your laptop and the additional tools of Toshiba and the utilities that control many additional features!
There is a huge difference between Vista and early Microsoft operating systems.

The Vista eat computer resources and many devices old don t work or cannot be installed because the 3rd device manufacturers don t provide Vista drivers!

In my opinion an upgrade to 2 GB ram would increases the performance of laptop.

  • Re: Satellite Pro A120: cannot select an option on the recovery disk

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120, which has recently been faced with the "alert: System protection failure! "password:" problem that it turned up on some BIOS password unknown on its own in the middle of normal operation.

I got that fixed local Toshiba ASP.
But now, when I was about to reinstall the Windows cos she had slow, the possibility that the recovery media normally give to just format the first partition become invalid.

In the settings dialog box, the option is always there but it cannot be selected by clicking on it (from the color of the background showing this option not valid currently)... which means that the only selection (selected by default) is format all of the 38 GB... I don't want to do.

Someone knows what is wrong and how can I solve this problem.

I assume that you are using Windows XP and the restore CD also contains the XP operating system.
It s also interesting if this option has worked in the past?  :|

However, it s really mysterious that the solution cannot be executed and unfortunately I do not know why it happened

In the worst case, you'll have to back up data from the HARD drive and format the whole HARD drive :(

  • Prerequisites for the replacement of Windows XP for Satellite Pro A120-107

I don't know that it will have been asked before, however...

I received a Satellite Pro A120-107 XP. Because XP is not supported, I would like to upgrade to Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. Who should I go for?

I think I need to improve my memory (currently 512 MB) at least 1 GB. Or should I go to 2 GB. Which would be better?

And I need a BIOS upgrade? He is currently using vn 1.50 08/24/2006. If I do, what version?

In your case, I'll try to install Win 7 on this good old classic.

8.1 Win is the latest system from Microsoft but I'm afraid, you will have some problems with drivers m.

Win 7 would be the best choice in this case

  • Satellite Pro A120 - battery not found

    Hello

Technical details: I have a Satellite Pro A120, purchased about four years, running MS Vista. A year ago I noticed my battery has been virtually exhausted and bought a new battery (this one, to be exact: [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028NJAL2]). Since last year it worked very well and I have no reason to suspect that the battery itself might have a problem. Most of the time, I have the laptop plugged in, in any case.

However, recently (last few weeks, I think) I started to have occasional problems when all of a sudden I am notified that the battery can not be found - or rather, there is no actual notification, but the power icon in the changes of system tray with a small red on it X, and then the computer hangs. The touchpad still works and I can move the pointer on the screen, but absolutely nothing else says and there is no way out next to a hard reboot. Sometimes, if I catch the icon change from time to time and unplug the power cord (force the computer running on battery), it actually corrects issues. Not always, though.

Attempts to seek similar problem descriptions online were not very useful; most of the time, the description does not exactly fit my situation or the Seraph blames the battery or the operating system (which, in my case, to be as the wrong answers, since I said the battery generally works well, and I had the same OS from the start). Also a search of these forums did not have no useful result. I'll call my go - to computer store and see if their engineers have all the answers or if it's just the time to take the old horse pasture and find a new filly, but thought that perhaps the good people on this forum may be able to offer advice (additional).

    Thanks in advance,
    Yael

I think that no one will be able to tell what's wrong exactly; I think it is s battery issue but of course, no one can say it it s battery maybe motherboard or just a software problem. OPERATING SYSTEM.

Usually, the software should not affect the functionality of the battery and I think that it s more material associated.
The laptop is a little old and the battery seems to be old too so I think that the battery needs to be checked first

  • Satellite Pro A120 - fan run all the time

OK, so this is a strange...

I have a satellite Pro A120. It works with the fan on all the time and sometimes goes on a mayor go slowly (which I think can be reduced to overheating).

Operating system is Ubuntu and I installed the tool of sensors that tell me about the minute the temperature is 100 degrees c and the next one is 16!

I suspect that it is perhaps that the heat sink is full of fluff, but I can't find a guide step by step to dismantle the machine, clean it and put it back together again.

Can anyone help with ideas or resources?

    Thank you very much

    Nathan

    Hello

You do not need to disassemble the unit to clean the fans.
You can use a jet of compressed air which helps to remove dust.
I did it several times and it helped!

    Try it!

  • Satellite Pro A120 - LCD black screen - Fine on external monitor - fine

Hi, I have a headache with a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 mojor. The screen began to move to the blackout at random times and happens more and more. It is not serious if W
Jayindows has loaded or if I enter the bios, boot from the CD or leave it sitting waiting for me to select a boot device. More often than otherwise, it becomes black, but you can still see what needs to be on the screen, it is simply not at all turned to see clearly. The laptop itself still works very well because it works on an external monitor and makes the system beeps, cd turns etc.
    Have you tried the following:
Setting of various parameters in the graphics properties and in the bios but makes no difference.
It also becomes active again if I press FN + F5 to swap monitors but turns off after a few seconds.
It is not overheating as it's been all night and still sometimes happens when starting Cold Stone.
I tried to start with / without battery - no difference.
I tried to start without the disk HARD - no difference.
I tried to remove the battery by pressing power for 60 seconds, then add the battery and new starter - no difference in power.
I could have sworn it is the inverter, but it does the same thing with an inverter I know works! do not think that it may be graphic because it works on an external monitor and turn off.
I'm out of ideas and looking for a genius to fix it for me please!
    See you soon

    Hey Buddy,

    > It turns on but not at all to see clear
This would mean that the FL inverter is faulty the FL inverter of the internal LCD display controls the backlight of the screen and if the isn t working FL inverter you can see a picture, but very very dark.

It would be a logical explanation for your problem, because there must be something wrong with the laptop LCD if an external monitor is working properly. Also if it happens in the BIOS the problem is not software.

In your case I contact an authorized service provider and ask the guys for help. They can check your laptop and this should be done. Here, we can only speculate and discuss the different possibilities because it s just a user forum. EPA has professional diagnostic tools and can order all Toshiba spare parts.

    Good luck! :)

  • Re: Satellite Pro A120-189 - RAM who do I take for the upgrade?

    Hello everyone

I want to upgrade the RAM for my Satellite Pro A120-189, model number PSACIE-05V021EN, as the laptop is quite slow (I use Vista 32 bit business).
I was wondering what is the maximum RAM for my laptop, and how compatible RAM module I might add (for now, I have 1 GB of RAM).

Thank you in advance for your help!
    Best
    Husband

    Hello

I checked the specification of your laptop on the Toshiba page and this laptop can be upgraded to 4 GB of RAM. This is why you must use two modules of 2 GB with DDR2 (533 MHz) technology.

You can get new RAM to each computer store or authorized service provider. I have good experiences with high-quality Kingston modules.

  • Satellite PRO A120 BIOS PASS RESET BIOS RESPONSE CODE.

    Hello
I have a portable Satellite Pro A120. Has long been asking me a password when starting.

    The BIOS password prompt:
    ALERT: System protection failure.

I found a place that is the problem of BIOS and should be updated. Official toshiba ASP 67 fees plus costs of delivery to reset the BIOS. Somehow, I find that pressing TAB, CTRL, Shift and ENTER the Code response request.
The ASP can provide this code for free?

    Thank you.

    Hello

To be honest, I have no idea about these codes. Try contacting Asp ask them if they offer this code, don't think not if someone can answer this question in this forum.

  • Satellite Pro A120 - can I upgrade to Windows 7?

I have a Satellite Pro A120 (model PSAC1A-045005 - purchased in Australia) I want to upgrade to Windows 7, XP
The Toshiba Australia website says it is not compatible with Windows 7 and the Windows XP upgrade to Windows 7 is not supported.
Searching the Web I found some sites that say they have the drivers on the computer. Only one address is the following:
    http://driver-Toshiba.blogspot.com/2009/12/Toshiba-Satellite-Pro-A120-PSAC1-for.html

No doubt these drivers would be unofficial. They would be reliable or would it cause problems?
I use a wireless router so would be particularly concerned if it caused problems with this

To provide you with accurate answers, someone must have the same model of laptop and test it for you.
To be honest, you will be very happy if someone here will do that for you.

So my advice is: install Win7 and test these drivers only. If something is wrong or you will not be satisfied with the functionality, you can back up the operating system more former and supported when you want.

  • Satellite Pro A120 - need drivers Server 2003

I have Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 with XP Pro. But now, you have installed Windows Server 2003 because of certain practices, but he on ethernet and audio drivers. Can someone guide me how can I intall and can access the internet.

    Thank you.

To be honest, what do you want with a server on your laptop operating system? I'm a little confused on this m.

However, Toshiba does not support this operating system on your laptop so you have to look to external Web sites for drivers.
I put t know what Satellite A120 you exactly so that I can t find drivers, but you can find the driver on the site of the factory.
    For example:

  • Satellite Pro A120 hangs sometimes

    Hello

I've had my Satellite Pro A120 for a little over a month now, and during that time, he has frozen maybe five or six times. This is the type of crash response system, which completely stops can be recovered by using the Task Manager to end the process, and the only cure is to turn off and on again. When this happened, the laptop did not turn all particularly demanding programs, maybe Word, iTunes, or Mozilla Firefox.

This could be due to overheating? The Unit feels often hot to the touch around the vents on the left side, but not excessively hot. Is there a utility I could use to see if all the material is defective?

I ran the Toshiba PC diagnostic tool, but it says the hard drive, processor and memory are all very well.

    Hello

Well, it's not easy to say why it happened.
Yes, your suggestion is good. Something like that could happen if the temperature is too high. But if the laptop overheats the operating system should stop the unit automatically without warning.
However, to avoid overheating, don't forget that there is enough free space around the laptop for a good air circulation.

But also the software problem could be a reason for any frizzing. Then the OS on my laptop s brother frisottés several times. I just installed the fresh WinXP and since then everything is ok.
    You should study a bit
