  Hello, I have an A300-guest 1GT (running windows 7) for a few years now and just recently, that it started to freeze. It happens randomly and everything crashes (can't move the mouse, the keyboard does not work) only option is to press and hold the power button and stop it.   (1) the Satellite A200-1CR supports SATA and no IDE interface and that's why you need a SATA HDD. It of really not difficult to replace the HARD drive and as far as I know, you should find a few details in the user manual. There is a useful statement and photos that explain the entire procedure.

  (2) hm AFAIK the drive replacement HARD will not void the warranty, and has no effect on the State of security.

  (3) you can also contact the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country for a HARD drive replacement, but in my opinion that is not really necessary because the replacement is not very sensitive. As I said above, check the user manual.

  (4) I don t think that your laptop will support 2 x 250 GB HARD drive.
  Of course, there are a few other series laptops which are abele to support two hard drives but I n t think that your laptop A200 support.

  Just a small comment on the new HARD drive:
  The fact is that some more HARD drive are not supported by the BIOS. I mean an upgrade to 120 GB to 250 GB drive HARD is really a leap one possibly your BIOS would not recognize the HARD drive correctly.

    More old Windows XP need a driver AHCI Intel's but I think this isn't a problem with SATA driver missing because as far as I know Windows 8 as well as Win 8.1 already contains the drivers to recognize the SSD or HARD disk drive.
    In addition, the installation of the OS should be possible even if the driver would be added for this procedure, you must use the "compatibility" mode

    It seems that the laptop supports a HARD drive 2.5 SATA.
    As the controller SATA HDD has no limitation, all SATA 2.5 hard drives should be compatible.

    On the European driver Toshiba page I found Robson tea for Vista package which includes the Intel Matrix Storage Management utility.

    You should not worry about the whole procedure, just install the HARD drive, put the recovery CD in your CD/DVD drive, press F12 and start with your CD drive or just press 'C' (which automatically inserted CD, boots).

    The recovery is not limited to a specific HARD disk, it automatically adjusts the size of the partition and install EVERTHING on your disk as a preinstalled OS shipped directly from the factory. Don t you need some additional drivers or software, the only thing you need to do is to copy your personal data on the system drive and customize your windows.

    It is the intention of recovery media: put it in and it does everything by itself.
