Satellite Pro A300: Where is the HDD?

Hi all

Does anyone know where the hard drive is located on the A300? Is it a mere discovery? Are the many screws out?
I think I need to replace the hard drive as mine does not slowly on me...

Does anyone have the specs for the hard drive? It is SATA?

Thank you!

HARD drive is placed in the lower corner under the cover of HARD drive (fixed with a screw).

Slow HARD disk drive? Strange? What operating system is installed on your laptop? Using original pre-installed Vista?
One last thing: If you think that the HARD drive may be defective not to spend your money for the HARD drive. With valid warranty you get replacement free.

    Just solved my problem:

    1. the order of the items in the context menu of files can be changed by updating actions for file types specified in the Folder Options Menu. Select Folder Options + of + the + Tools + menu of any folder, select + File Types + and scroll to the bottom for * file *. Click on * advanced * then * New * and add * open * with * Explorer * as the program to use. Click on * OK * and * Close * and bingo! Appears in the order of the menu shortcut in XP is open before you search, but in XP Pro followed research of Open / Explore.

    2. the utility Windows search can be deleted without problem despite the warning launched - Microsoft Web site indicates the warning is simply a generic warning and it is highly unlikely that removal will affect all software installed since the loading search utility.

    3. the Windows Search utility is NOT the cause of this problem.

  • Satellite Pro A300-1DZ cannot find HDD after BIOS update

    Hello world

I recently bought a Satellite Pro A300-1DZ flea market.
Put a new copy of Windows xp family.
I then install all the drivers necessary own site of Toshiba and the end of it, I thought that it is perhaps a good idea to update the bios?

OH DEAR what a big mistake.

Now the netbook won't start windows.
So I thought it's ok, I'll just start from the begginning and reinstall windows again, but he tells me that it cannot find a hard drive on my netbook?

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I'm going crazy,
Could someone tell me please how to fix this? Thanks x

    Hello

I think the value of the option SATA AHCI and hence Windows XP mode cannot find the HARD drive.
It's because of the SATA controller.
You can set the SATA AHCI compatible mode mode mode and this will allow you to install Win XP on the laptop without the use of SATA drivers.

So, you have two options if you want to install Win XP:

-> AHCI mode, but you must include the SATA drivers
Compatible mode-> Win XP installation possible without SATA drivers

  • Satellite Pro A60 - where is the WLan card

I looked in all the compartments on the back of the laptop and cannot find a map.
I recently went wireless, but there is no indication that a card is mounted as no receipt is displayed.

There is no wireless card fitted, despite the fact that the laptop was supposed to have a mounted, or is it an option for this model?

    Can anyone help.

Hello. The wireless card on your computer is shurely mounted under the plastic cover. This is not placed so that you can see it from the outside. If Youre spec. on the computer it's a wireless card you comp. is shurely is the case. Try also look on the front and on the cover just below the screen, look for a symbol that looks like an antenna or something like that. Probably its not active, you shurely a symbol on the keyboard or on the case at the front who is having the same symbol "antenna". The symbol keyboard are enabled by a "FN" and press symbol keybord, if the swthc is on the front or somewhere else, just return it. Good luck!

I have a portable Satellite Pro A300-1NH. The DVD drawer opens not most of the time. Sometimes it does, but most of the time it isn't.
Sometimes, if I can get a DVD/CD in the drawer for something to burn, burning works.
Most of the time the computer does not recognize that there is a disc, and then I can't open the drawer again to get it out.

Can anyone tell a novice what should I do to resolve this issue please?

It looks like a mechanical problem. You need to replace or insert a PIN or no folded into a small hole on the plateau near the exit button whenever he is stuck.

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDE re-start when it is plugged

I've had this laptop stored for awhile that I couldn't work through this problem, but I'll have another chance.

The laptop is a Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDE.
The problem I am haiving, is that the laptop might restart whenever I connect the PSU, but not when you use a live CD (Ubuntu).

Let me try to Flash a BIOS replacement to see if this will fix the problem.
Unfortunately, the necessary software to Flash the BIOS requires the laptop to be plugged.

Is there a way around this problem?
Can I trick the software into thinking it is plugged?
Is there a way I can return/repair of the BIOS in a different way because obviously the problem has always been there.

    Hello

Sorry mate but I'm afraid I n t m know exactly what the problem is
You said that you can not boot from a Linux Live CD, but you can install a Windows system on this laptop?

Why do you think the BIOS is the problem?
Even if the BIOS is not updated, the laptop should power on correctly and should boot

Can you explain the problem exactly?

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDA-02000R CPU and graphics chipset mismatch

can someone help me with the specifications of this laptop.

When I look at the official brochure of toshiba for this product, he mentions that the Chipset of the CPU

"Mobile Intel 965 PM Express Chipset.

but the second video card says

    "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator GM45.

Which is true, because what I read on the site of intel GMA X 3100 is used on the mobile 965 PM Express Chipset.

Any help will be much appreciated.

To be honest, this unit is not known to me, but I know that some other Satellite Pro A300 supports other chipsets.
    For example:

SATELLITE PRO A300 PSAJ1E-005008BT supports the Intel GM965 chipset and graphics chip Intel GM965
SATELLITE PRO A300 PSAJ5E - 001001GR is supported by the chipset Intel PM965 and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470

SATELLITE PRO A300-21 b PSAGDE-01S007A3 supports the Chipset Mobile Intel GM45 Express and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470.

As you can see there are many different laptops with hardware components completely different models
I googled too, and it seems that the PSAGDA Satellite Pro A300-02000R supports the PM of Mobile Intel 965 Express chipset and graphics ATI Mobility Radion, HD 3650 with 512 MB + Intel Graphics Media Accelerator GM45.

There is a problem with the FN key on the keyboard, it does not work. I don't know if this has something to do with the downgrade xp?

If you have downgraded to Windows XP with the Microsoft disk, you must install the utilities Toshiba and Hotkey Utility.
This is necessary for the FN keys in Windows XP to check for these utilities from Toshiba Web site:

  • Satellite Pro A300 - can I get a new recovery disk?

    Hi people

I want to do a clean install on my Satellite Pro A300 laptop, but the only thing is I can't find my recovery disc I made. When I did everything first he is there anywhere I can get a new one?
I checked the section drivers but nothing is there

    Thank you
    ADE

    Hello

If you have always installed the Vista version that was bundled with the laptop, you can create a new disc of recovery again.
Just launch the Toshiba recovery disc creator and create a new one that s all the!

In addition, you can reinstall Vista if you use HARD drive recovery option. Therefore, you need to go into the advanced boot menu (F8) and select Repair my computer. Some files are loaded and then you can choose the Toshiba Recovery option.
But this is only possible on the preinstalled Vista version.

In the worst cases, to order a new drive Toshiba Recovery directly:

  • The upgrade memory and HDD on Satellite Pro A300-1EA

So, I'm new to this forum so first of all Hello to all!

I plan to buy the Satellite Pro A300 1EA and I came to the conclusion that I need to buy more memory that the thing has already installed (2 048 MB).
I tried to search for information through Kingston and OCZ, but have not found something solid on what memory modules are supported by the A300-1EA.

The A300-1EA uses DDR2 800 Mhz type of memory (max 8192MB) instead of just dealing with one module 2084 installed, I had intended to get two of them.

What I have to buy two identical modules, or can I increase memory by simply adding a module to match installed?
So if anyone has an idea where I could find on the modules of memory supported, that would be swell! :)

The other thing is quite the same, but only with hard disks. I found many potential readers than fullfill my needs for a faster drive (upgrade of 5400 RPM / min-> 7200 RPM), but I don't know which ones work with this laptop.

After all, I'm in the impression that laptops are not so easy on these pieces as desktop computers.

    Thanks in advance!

Satellite Pro A300-1EA belongs to the series of PSAG9E, and it seems that it was fitted on the Chipset Mobile Intel GM45 Express.
As far as I know, that you can improve this laptop 4 GB RAM max so I wonder which tells you something about 8 GB support.
You can upgrade the memory to 4 GB, and you can use the 200-PIN SODIMM 800 MHz modules.

But to be honest I don t understand why you want to upgrade if the 32-bit Windows operating system will see only 3.2 GB due to the limitation of the 32-bit operating system.

    With regard to the drive HARD;
You need a HARD drive 2.5 SATA.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - 1 2 - HDD upgrade advice

    Hello

I would really appreciate the help as I'm going round in circles. I have a Satellite Pro A300 - 1 2, and I want to replace the HARD drive and install Windows 7, what is the best HARD drive I can get to the laptop?

Also, what is the maxium of RAM I can install in your laptop.

Any advice would be great machines running lately and I think that the HARD drive has a bad sector in it.

    See you soon,.

    James

Best HARD drive? For that matter I n t I answer. You don't have compatible HARD DRIVE but need to better. According to the specifications of the laptop your drive HARD original was 250 GB SATA HDD.
I have my HDD Samsung A300 inside. Visit your local dealer and buy high quality with 300 or 400 GB SATA 2.5 HARD drive maybe. It will be sufficient, I think. We Toshiba, Samsung or Hitachi HARD drive. Check the price and decision.

RAM upgrade: your laptop can handle with 4 GB of RAM. no more than that. If you have 2 GB inside buy more RAM of 2 GB module. 2 GB compatible RAM has PA3513U-1M2G part number.

    Good bye

    Hello

The problem is that your laptop supports the SATA HDD controller but the system OS does not contain the SATA drivers
You can assign in the compatible SATA mode BIOS.
This allows you to install the operating system without installation of the SATA drivers.

I'm curious to know about it. The machine is a Satellite Pro A300-28V with Vista32/Win7.
Had problems with bluescreen dumps referring to 'iaStor.sys '. I was about to send the laptop in for repair when I made this last effort to resolve the problem. Upgrade 1.9 to 2 BIOS, 1 - Win.

All of a sudden my system image succeeded! Even at an Iomega home network HDD. Without complex!
No blue screen exports even at startup 'cold' (after a free night)!

For now, I leave the computer in sleep mode while I am at work. Let's see if he managed a day without landfills.

What is the technical difference between 1.9 and 2.1 BIOS? No idea if it's something with iaStor.sys to do?

    Hi mate

This is really good news as your BSOD displeasured after the BIOS update.
The BIOS give instructions to the test power - on self test (POST) and provide basic information on how to manage components of the laptop, as HDD, ODD memory, that are required to load the operating system.

Who knows, what was changed in the update but the main thing is that all the work and the update solve your BSOD

    > No idea if she has something with iaStor.sys to do?
iaStor.sys is part of the SATA driver who is required to recognize the HARD drive using AHCI mode.
