Satellite Pro C660-1NR crashes intermittently, hard reset required

Windows 7 64 bit Satellite Pro C660-portable 1NR

Hello

One of computer Laptop my users freezes at random times throughout the day. At first, I thought it was battery attached, as the first two occurrences that happened when using disconnected, but it has since then done when connected too. On average, it happens at least once a day.

He will not resume later, the only way to get past that is holding down the power button then restarting.

The problem started when downloading a number of updates from Windows about 6 weeks ago. Previously it has never frozen, not even once.

I'll wait to die again (maybe today, maybe tomorrow!) and focus on the event log around the time he died.

Don't you think that it is hardware or software related?

I updated the drivers of the laptop, chipset etc, so everything is as up-to-date as I can get it.

Nothing wrong with this laptop other than the gel, performs very well when it works.

Your help is very appreciated.

Kind regards
Lee

So why you n t try to fix the system to the point before the updates were installed? I think it would be the first step, try to solve this problem.

> Do you think that it is hardware or software related?
If the settings in the system at the point of early time would not help, I suppose that a recovery system would be the next step to find out the reason for this problem
After the related question of the unit should work correctly if it could not well be material recovery

  • Cannot install Win 8 - Satellite Pro C660 does not detect HARD drive

    Hello

My HARD drive died, so I decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro C660 - 1 9 to an SSD.
I made a USB bootable with Win8 and starts very well.

The problem is that it does not detect my SSD, so I can proceed with the installation.
SSD appears in BIOS but not in Windows Installer.
He said that there is a missing driver.

I downloaded the AHCI drivers (XP, only ones available) and even in this case, after you have selected the only rider that appears, it says no new device found.

I tried to change the SATA from AHCI mode to compatibility mode and it's the same thing...

    What can I do?

    Thanks for the help.
    Best regards
    Bruno Moreira

More old Windows XP need a driver AHCI Intel's but I think this isn't a problem with SATA driver missing because as far as I know Windows 8 as well as Win 8.1 already contains the drivers to recognize the SSD or HARD disk drive.
In addition, the installation of the OS should be possible even if the driver would be added for this procedure, you must use the "compatibility" mode
As you say, the compatibility mode is not working too, so I think there is another problem.

However, page driver Toshiba also provides a driver Intel RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) (Windows 8 - updated) you can try to add during the installation of the OS.

But I m wondering if you would be able to install this Win 8 on common SATA HDD.
Have you tried to format the SSD using a different computer, then install Win 8?
    Give it a try.

  • Recovery on satellite Pro C660 - 2KM with new HARD drive with the restored recovery partition

    Hey people,
I had a problem with a virus on this sat pro, so I decided to completely erase the hard drive to get rid of this virus. Before I did, I saved everything partiton D including the recovery path and after clearing course, I copied everything returns to a place (second partition).
Now, try to recover and do not know how to do it. F11, F10 and F8 seems to not work. Do I need the recovery media created with recovery media creator or can I still use the recovery on the new partition D: path?
Thanks for your help in advance,
    Stefan

Unfortunately, recovery doesn't work on this path.
What you need now is the recovery disk.
In general the recovery image on the second partition is useless and you will not be able to start.

  • Satellite Pro C660 - 1NR WLAN XP driver problem

    Hello

We have a new 1NR C660 - have installed XP Professional SP3 - downloaded the drivers and installed. Everything works except the WLAN.

List of device manager network controller - which details suggest a WLAN Atheros (DEV_0030) controller.

We downloaded and installed the driver from the Toshiba WLAN download site, but it is still not recognized?

I reinstalled XP 3 times and tried different versions of the driver but same result.

    Help!

You have installed Atheros driver version 7.7.0.406.2?

  • Satellite Pro C660-1NR lose wireless adapter?

We bought a few of the above computers laptops running Windows 7, and I had problems with 2 of them so far! After some time of normal web browsing, I lose the wifi network and in the Device Manager, the Atheros AR938x card no longer shows as being installed (no icon or anything). After a reboot, everything is fine and the adapter shows as working normally. However, he can and pick up again intermittently.
It's frustrating when standing in front of a class of students in the middle of a lesson. The only software that has been installed is office and a couple of educational programs that work fine on other machines.
Any ideas before I throw them out the window?

    Thank you

    > Any ideas before I throw them out the window?
Yes. Contact the nearest Toshiba service provider as soon as POSSIBLE and leave check books.

All you can do is to install original recovery image (Win7) and test with the factory settings, but I don't think it will help.

  • Satellite Pro C660-1LR - new HARD drive but no recovery disk

I need help for my son who is the Satellite Pro C660 1LR laptop.

In this portable hard drive is completely dead, I have not created a disk of recovery for this system of portable computers.
I bought a new hard drive that is installed... However, as you guessed it I have no access to reinstall an OS, this laptop works on windows 7.

I'm not really tech savvy so if someone can advise me please do explain to the fool proof format! I try to avoid having to buy something expensive.

    > I'm trying to avoid having to buy something expensive.
Problem is that you don't have many options in this regard.
If you want to have the factory again settings you must install recovery disc. You can order on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx of course is not free, but, in my opinion, without a doubt the best solution.

You can buy the Microsoft installation disc and install the clean version. You must purchase a valid license for it.
In this case, you must install all the necessary drivers, tools and utilities for more than one by one.

Just in case you can get this installation of Microsoft and the free license you can save money.

Believe me, the best solution is the original recovery disk command.

  • Satellite Pro C660 - 21(d): question about the partitions on the HARD disk

    Hello

    I just started using my new satellite pro c660 - 21 d

    My office has drive c, d, u, s
    C either windows 7, Vista D
The drive U is 342 meg in size

I didn't have the disk in two 230 gig drive so thoughtless narrowed C drive of 70 GB and D drive with 10 gig (it's the primary recovery partition

I have now two empty partitions of 170 Gig (from c drive)
and 214 Gig (from d drive)
But windows will only allow me to add one as a disc of the user
He says may not have more than 4

The reason for being there is a partition of Active recovery without letter.

I can't unshrink drive C or drive D then I went with 170 GB of unused space.

I guess that a solution would be to lose the data disk 10 gig that contains the recovery software but then I don't have a backup.

Suggestions as to what I could do to work around this problem.

I am now under the Create recovery disks (2 of them) so maybe I could remove one of the partitions after.

I don't know why he answered instead of edition, but if the recovery disc creation complete with no errors, I can remove the hard drive?

  • Satellite Pro C660-29W. How to remove the supervisor password

    Hi all
I've been locked out of my bios and I don't know the password. My little brother was playing with my laptop computer and accidentally set the supervisor password. Is it possible that I can recover the password or reset it? I really need to change my boot sequence as I just bought a new SSD and need to format my laptop. Suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Here's my version of bios and details of laptop

    Toshiba satellite Pro C660-29W

    CPU Intel Core i5 2410 M

    8 GB Ram DDR3

BIOS: BIOS FRIEND - installation utility Aptio
    BIOS system ver: 1.50
    THIS Version: 1.50

    Thank you

Supervisor password is very important safety device and a kind of reset of the user is not possible. You can cancel it, but you must know the correct password to confirm that you are the real owner computer laptop.

Toshiba provider in your country can help you with this. You just approve that you are owner of the laptop, and they can cancel it for you. Of course, you must pay for it.

As far as I know, there are several techniques for the removal of password and it depends on phone model.

Contact the closest Toshiba ASP and ask for help.

  • Satellite Pro L850-1NR - dualboot Win7 / Win8

    Hello world

I use my L850 - 1NR Satellite Pro for the school. I go to a technical school for information technology, and we use windows 8. The problem is that * Windows 7 preinstalled * on my laptop and home, each PC works with Windows 7.

When you buy a Satellite Pro L850 1NR, you get two * installation Windows 8 CD *, if I want to make one * dualboot Windows 7 and Windows 8 *. I know how to create a new volume on my hard drive, but when I run the first disc, the only option is to remove Windows 7 and install Windows 8.

Is it possible to dualboot this and if it is possible, what should I do?  :|

    Hello

Windows 7 is pre-installed on your laptop. 8 win was provided on DVD discs.

In both cases; Win 7 and Win 8 is part of the image of Toshiba.
Toshiba is a package containing all the drivers, tools and utilities.

It s is not possible to keep the Win 7 on the HARD drive and install 8 additional to win using the recovery disk provided.
Why? Because this isn't clean system Win 8, but as mentioned; his image.

But in general, its possible to have a system dual boot (8 Win and Win 7). The start menu will be created that will allow you to choose between Win 7 and Win 8 OS.

You will need to create simply new partition in Win 7 system.
Then, you must start the MS Win 8 disk clean and could install the 8 Win on the new created partition.

You will need to buy a SATA HDD.
The Satellite Pro C660 series to buy a SATA 2.5 HARD.

  • Satellite Pro C660-239 - restore from recovery media error

    Hello!

I have a laptop from a client, it is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and I'm having a strange problem.

The original hard drive failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard drive and ordered the recovery media to this model, our assistance to repair local toshiba.

After the installation copied the files on the disk, the imageX command fails when you restore the image with error files:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

The hard drive is new, and I also tried with more than 2 hard drives, as well as with an external cd-rom drive.

I spoke with the support of assistance local repair, and told me that this happens because the ins new ' t compatible with the recovery media hard drive?

One of the new disks hard I tried, was the exact same model as the original hard disk, and the error persists, so the hard drive may not be the problem.

Y does it have that no change in the recovery media is corrupt?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

    Thank you

    > Is there any change in the recovery media is corrupt?
    Of course, this is possible.
In case the HARD disk is OK, the recovery media may be damaged.

    > Could also be a motherboard problem?
I don t think so. I imagine that the HARD drive is recognized correctly in the BIOS and the error message says something about corrupt directory. I guess the disk directory that is the meaning and I think that the media should be replaced.

  • Satellite Pro C660 - restore to factory settings

    Hello.

    I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660.

I have some problems with this computer and I intend to sell it.
I want to set the computer to how it was when I took it out of the box.

I read a lot of popular advice on that. I tried holding 0, which do not work. I entered in the system by pressing f8. I get a screen when I get options on what I want to do with my computer, but it is not an option that allows me to look again at 'out of the box"State.
What I read, this option is supposed to be here.
I have no restore disk as laptop did not come with one.
    I am running to options

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you

    Laura

    Hi Laura

What you want to do is HARD recovery disk image installation and it works as described in the
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

To be clear: this works if your laptop is always the factory settings. If your laptop is preinstalled with the clean version of the OS option repair your computer will not be available more.

Problem is that this situation can be avoided if the owner of the laptop has created the installation disc of recovery following the instructions described in the user s manuals document. I presume you didn't create this disc.

Now, there is only one option to get the original on your machine settings: you need to order the original disc of recovery for your laptop model and you can do it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Or you can remove all the important data of your machine and sell with actual configuration.

  • Change Win7 64-bit to 32-bit on the Satellite Pro C660-16N

    Hello.

    >... Satellite Pro C660-16N - Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium pre-installed...

Nobody knows what the best route is change Win7 64 bit for Win7 32 bit. This model has a 32-bit install on HARD drive recovery option?

Or he will have to do a clean install of Win7 32 bit DVD.

    Thank you very much.

I guess that this laptop is available with 64-bit only (specification) and there is only one way to install the version OS 32-bit, you must install it using original Microsoft Win7 32 bit installation disc.
Please note: for the activation of the operating system, you can use the product key from the sticker. You must purchase a new license for your own installation.

By the way: also check if this laptop model is supported for 32-bit version. You can do this on Toshiba support and download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
