Satellite Pro L20 very slow to start

My computer is old enough to start once connected for the first time. I have norton auto-start and think this may be it slows down, but how do I know what other programs start automatically.

I noticed that there are a lot of icons in my taskbar. Any ideas if its something to do with that or somethine else entirely?

Hi Julie,.

There are two possible locations for the tasks and processes to be configured for a start. The first (and most obvious) is in the folder 'Start-up' that you will see if you click on "Start-> all programs. A shortcut to an application placed here will cause this application to start when Windows loads.

Less obvious place is in the system registry, and it is where most of the assigned tasks/processes will be. The best way to view these is to use the MSCONFIG function (just click 'Start'-> run and then type MSCONFIG in the command line).

When the MSCONFIG window opens, simply click on the "Startup" tab and you will see a list of processes displayed with a check box next to each entry. You can select any process you want to start (but make sure you do not stop the tasks necessary for Windows or the configuration of your own laptop). When you accept all changes you want to the system will ask you if you want to restart and your laptop restarts then with the changes you have made in force. Note that, after the reboot, you will be informed that the system has started in diagnostic mode to return to normal just relaunch MSCONFIG and on the tab GENERAL, click on the 'normal' radio button

Kind regards

Hi, I just bought a laptop Satellite Pro A100. In general, I'm very happy with it, but I find it very slow especially at startup. It may take more than 5 minutes to be completely started.

Are there settings or settings that I can do to fix this?

I agree with the previous user of the forum. I often heard that Norton slows down the system quickly. Try to remove it and test it again.

  • Satellite Pro U300 very slow opening programs

    Hi all

I bought a Satellite Pro U300 in February 2008 and I only use it 3 - 4 times since then... It is very slow at the opening of the programs (I have only one statistical program installed) and Web pages and creates problems when I try to download other programs that have a different version of Windows Vista.
I really regretted buying this phone and I'm looking for someone to sell.

Until I do, I was wondering if I could uninstall Windows Vista and install Windows XP for example, or do anything else that would make my phone fun to use.

    Hello

The preinstalled operating system ran slowly because many applications are running in the background.
My laptop was slow too to experience of applications have been disabled.

    You can disable in MSCONFIG.
Type msconfig window RUN and check the Startup tab.
You will find the software that could slow down the operating system.

With regard to the installation of Win XP.
Yes, you can also install Win XP. By using the Win XP laptop should be little faster because Win XP doesn t need a lot of material resources.

  • Satellite Pro 6100: very slow recharge battery

I bought a new battery pack for my Satellite Pro 6100 because my old Battery Pack loaded very slowly, about 5 per cent in 12 hours. But it turns out that my other one has the same problem.
The problem may be the charger or the laptop.
I already tried to unload the batteries fully.
    Can someone help me.

    Hello

It is not easy to tell what can be the problem, but if you use the new battery pack and the problem is there, it is possible that electronic power on your laptop is not working properly.

Toshibe Satellite Pro P300 with built in the Atheros AR9281 wireless.

    Running Windows 7.

    ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

    BIOS 2.5

All the latest versions of the drivers installed including the driver Atheros 8.0.0.225.0 wireless.

    Wireless is annoying...

Sometimes fails to find the router (Belkin 54g, connected to the Modem cable Motorola (Virgin B/B is the access provider, 10 Mbps)).

When he finds, connects ok, but sometimes it is impossible to browse web pages - just behave as if there is no connection.

Bit torrent works also very slowly (in general 0.5Mbit / s depending on the number of peers etc.). Not a port forwarding issue with the router - using utorrent that indicates that the relevant port is open.

When I connect to the router with an ethernet cable, everything works a treat - much faster and rock solid connection. uTorrent has no hit 10Mbit/s problem at all.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you very much...

    Hello

You should first check if your BIOS is up to date.
If an older version of BIOS is installed then you could update the BIOS.

It is also advisable to update the installed WLan driver.
Here, you can check the available WLan drivers:

Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

For drivers, visit Maker as replacements and system manufacturer of device which are
the most recent. Control Panel - write - graphics card - device manager
the brand and complete model of your video card - double click - tab of the driver-
Note the version information. Now click on UPdate Driver (this can do nothing
MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then do a right click - Uninstall - REBOOT
This will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard
If there are 3rd party with their own software and drivers and the other main device drivers
    you have.

Now, go to the site of the manufacturer of system (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (restore)
and site (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get the manufacturer and device
their latest versions. (Look for the system to update the BIOS, Chipset and software updates
    Site of the manufacturer here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN -.
    REBOOT after each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you are
installation actually appears. This is because that some rollback of drivers before the
later is installed (particularly that audio drivers) so install a driver - reboot.
Make sure that it is installed and repeat if necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW to the device makers DO NOT RUN THEIR
SCANNER - check manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

Did you check if the AC adapter is working properly?
Initially, the battery is not charged. You must connect the power adapter to recharge the battery.

What is the motherboard or something else?

    Help, please

There is definitely a hardware problem.
But as you know it's not easy to make a diagnosis.

This looks like a motherboard or CPU problem maybe. The two parts can be damaged.

I think you don't have a lot of possibilities.
You can try to contact the ASP in your country and may ask for verification of the laptop.

  • Satellite Pro L20 does not illuminate

Hope you can help. We have a 5 years satellite pro L20 who never gave a lot of days. It runs from Win XP, had an upgrade (crucial) memory to 2 GB and a new battery 4 years ago 4 years ago. 2 days ago, he simply left with the same noise you get when force a shutdown by holding the power button down. I tried to boot with no battery, just the sector and only on a charged battery. All to nothing does not.

I then read the button of power with the battery and removed sector I did after leaving it overnight. When I replaced the battery it started as usual and lasted 30 seconds before turning off again, and then he was dead. I have tried all combinations with the ram up to 1 stick or kidnapped and attempted to get the bios with the HDD outside as well. Still nothing.

I noticed that when I put the battery in 2 of the 3 flashes briefly, and now the button of pwer while pushing the battery causes a brief start 4 seconds.

Any ideas as to what this may be? I suspect that the hardware and software. Also, I tried a different power adapter, once again no results. It stays just off.

    Thanks for any help...

    Hello

I'm afraid it looks like a serious m hardware problem
My first idea was a malfunction of the RAM in such a case, you could replace and test the memory, but it seems that you have already tried

In my view there s something wrong with a motherboard or a part on the motherboard :(
In this case I n t think a replacement of the motherboard would be useful since this part is very expensive

Maybe you should clean the HARD drive and also use defragmentation application to optimize the data saved on the HARD drive.
