Satellite Pro L300-128 - startup problem
Hi all
I recently bought a Satellite Pro L300-128 GB specification, that has a Celeron M550 running Windows XP and a construction date of the end of June 2008. I have a problem with the switching on of the machine if it has been turned off for a long period of time.
Basically, if the AC cable is inserted into the computer laptop and plugged in, the green light turns on, but pressing the button it does nothing. By the process of elimination, I have found that, after a short period of time (say 15-30 minutes) if (and only if) the AC cable is then removed from the laptop, it lights up then!
Plug the AC cable, while the laptop is on, do not cut the machine and charge the battery as usual. The battery life seems very good, if a little short (say 1.5 - 1.75 hours when used "constantly").
If the computer is restarted, it lights again very well - if it is turned off and left for a few minutes, once again no problem. But, if she is not with the battery fully charged and left all night - it lights again in the morning.
Now, as a new machine, I'm wondering if the battery needs a long initial load (such as a mobile phone)? Nothing is said about it in the manual. I have not yet checked if the battery down completely himself during the night. I haven't run the battery to the laptop for a long time (say all day) to 'trickle charge '. I don't know if the period from 15 to 30 minutes to get the thing started is once again because the battery is completely discharged during the night (I need to check the BIOS to see if "Wake up we LAN/wireless" is activated)-anyone know how long a fully discharged battery must be charged before that the machine will let you start it?
Under the machine, there are two battery release buttons and it seems loose - I don't know if it's related, but can't see how. Moreover, when the question arose (during the first delivery the laptop), I removed the battery and tried power upwards of food, but nothing to do.
I ran all the software updates (chipset etc) I can find on the download page, the BIOS version is 1.40 (last) of the factory.
Any suggestions would be welcome before I have use the service of repair under warranty for the first time! I don't know if it is related to the fact that the power button seems to be a micro switch rather than a good button/switch in the conventional sense of the term, i.e. you can 'feel' it do something!
Thank you very much
Richard
Hello
If you have purchased a new laptop, the battery is empty and needs to be charged in the first place.
You can also connect the adapter to the laptop while the battery is empty and the laptop should also lights up properly.
The laptop must also run without the battery and using only the AC adapter.
It should also be possible to put the laptop by pressing the power button for about a second, if this is not possible, a malfunction of the laptop could be possible.
In such cases, it s always advisable to contact the local ASP for a verification of the laptop.
I mean your laptop is under warranty and if something is not wrong with the machine so everything must be replaced free of charge
In my opinion, the laptop must be checked!

Anyone got any ideas?I put t know what CD/DVD drive you have but on the Toshiba site for some readers are firmware upgrades available. Maybe you should try this to solve the problem.

Hello
I think you can run Notepad on the battery power more than one hour.
But as you have already said, battery working time depends on the use of the laptop. If the battery performance can change always and can be different.
If you wish, you can extend the performance of battery changing the settings in the power options.
A stronger battery could also allows to run Notepad as long on battery. If you wish, you can visit the European site of Toshiba-> Options & accessories for a stronger battery

HariHello
Start-up of facilities you have to load the SATA driver. I think that your laptop has a Chipset Mobile Intel® GL960 Express with code CrestlineGM + ICH8-M name.
When WXP facilities charge ICH8 SATA driver. You can find it under http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/stormng-20070827133046.zip

Satellite Pro L300 keeps closing
I have a series of satellite Pro L300 running Windows Vista Business and have problems with him closing by itself without known reason, then it restarts only sometimes.
The startup repair does nothing.
Hello
I think it might be related to high temperatures.
Have you noticed a hot air coming from vents?
Usually the laptop stops automatically to avoid that the pieces of equipment against damage.
So you need to check if the vents are clogged with dust and debris in most cases you can remove it using a jet of compressed air.

Satellite Pro L300-1AF fails to start
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-1AF that won't start, it stopped working a few weeks ago and I tried startup repair and things, and nothing seemed to work just kept loading a black screen with a cursor but nothing else. After a little more research, I found out how to restore to factory settings holding the 0 key etc. when I tried this he got 54% then the screen everything went black and now it used to boot. It happens with just:
-Unable to start windows. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
file:\Windows\system32\winload.exe
status: 0xc000000e
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or damaged. He also says to insert your installation disc, but I have not one when I bought it.
-What this means and how can I solve this problem? I tried the factory restore and just make it even worse.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated
Hello
> He also says to insert your installation disc, but I have not one when I bought it.
That's your first problem. This model laptop was delivered without disc recovery but the preinstalled software that allows you to create a recovery media. All this is clearly described in the document s user manuals.
Now, your original Vista operating system has disappeared. On this path virtual I can't say with certainty what the problem is, but somehow, I think the HARD drive's troublemaker. What to do now? First you need the Windows installation for the installation of the OS disc. Original Vista may not be used more so my advice to you is to get the Win7 32 bit install disc and try to install it on your machine. Win7 is entirely compatible, so there is no problem to install all the necessary drivers, tools and utilities.
By default the BIOS settings and try to install Win7. If the same problem recurs and Setup will stop I m afraid HARD drive is defective. If possible, try to get another HDD for testing purposes.
You know you have to play a bit with your machine now and find out what the problem is.

BSOD STOP 0 x 00008086 on Satellite Pro L300 - 1 K PSLB9E
Hello
My son came back from uni with his laptop which, to quote ' is knacked - no idea what the problem - been like that for weeks...» »
At startup, it goes to the green bar of process, then goes off, then comes up with the BSOD - technical details: Stop:
0 x 00008086 (0x00000000) (0x00000000) (0x00000000) (0x00000000)
At this point, I didn't get any action with her, when I make a bad situation worse.
The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 - 1 K (PSLB9E) running Windows Vista.
(I would provide more information, if I could, but can't until I can start to check specifications)Thanks in advance.
Hello
BSOD can be caused by a hardware or software problem.
First of all, you should check if it s not software related issue.
In such cases, it of needed to reinstall the Windows operating system.
Usually the new OS installed should not cause any BSOD!If the Toshiba Recovery disk does not help you, then you should start to investigate
It may be a cause of modules defective memory BSOD issue very often. However, if you have no knowledge about computers, then you should ask a technician to downtown to control parts.

Satellite Pro L300 - XP runs slowly
Satellite Pro L300 PSLB9E - Windows XP
Works slow intermittently, but shows inactive in the Task Manager. Disable anti virus etc, but always slowly works intermittently. Can anyone offer advice please?
Hey mate,
First I must say that it is really hard to say why your laptop is running slowly. There are several reasons for this problem, but it would be interesting to know if you have installed the operating system preinstalled by Toshiba or did you install XP yourself using a disc of Microsoft? In this case, you should try this again with the Toshiba recovery disc. It contains a picture of the factory settings and so, your laptop should work correctly.
In addition, I would recommend to defragment the HARD disk, disable some services and startup programs that you don't need and you try a good antivirus like AntiVir. After that, clean you the registry with CCleaner.
Good luck!

Satellite Pro L300: x 3100 and updated updated driver chipset Intel 965 graphics
Has anyone installed the Intel 7.15.10.1666 driver, dated 02/26/2009 for the Mobile 965 chipset? Here is their web page to download:
http://www.Intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm965/
Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 doesn't work for some reason unknown to me, with the automatic update driver Intel (download containing the executable file). Therefore, I followed the instructions for manual installation (the download with the zip file).
My laptop works fine with this new driver, and there is a clear improvement in the transitions between images when you use the option to Windows presentation (slideshow).
This new driver installs also 3 Intel graphics programs:
For the management of the display function keys
Access to the system tray
Wizard TVI used Windows Defender to remove these 3 programs that load automatically at startup of the system to maintain a fast startup time and not loading unnecessary programs in memory. There is no me no problem.
Why Toshiba has added that this to the driver download page?
Hello
Thanks for this second info...
> Why Toshiba has added that this to the driver download page?
Who knows maybe it has not been verified, approved and tested by Toshiba? As far as I know every phone manufacturers test and approve drivers before they will be released in the pages of pilot
Perhaps, it has not been approved...However, it s good new that this driver works correctly.
I'll check it too on my laptop.See you soon

Shortcut keyboard Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 - properties will not end
Dear lovers of Toshiba:
This week, we have installed three new systems of Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 (two L300-153, a L300-156) with recovery media for Windows XP since the L300-156 product (no date on the disc, only two codes: CD 5 124624 and GMR400841EN0).
The machines are beautiful and very effective, except for one problem: when the logout or shutdown Windows XP, the program called 'The Toshiba keyboard shortcut properties' does not stop automatically and opens a dialog "end program". The user may terminate the program immediately by clicking on the button 'End now' or wait until it to expire, after which the system disconnects or terminate normally.
We noticed only after the installation of Service Pack 3 on all machines, so I don't know if the problem was present before SP3 has been applied. (We will be definitely check this on the following system and display the result.) Install the rest updates Windows with Service Pack 3 does not resolve the problem. Not more then that uninstall Toshiba Hotkey Utility by installing the package current, freshly downloaded from the Toshiba support area.
A colleague suggested disabling startup programs. There are two likely choices for this purpose in the startup list + of + msconfig +: * thotkey * and * TFncKy *. Disabling either of these programs allows the disappearance of problem, but the functions of the * Fn keys are lost. The key functions are also lost when uninstalling the Toshiba Hotkey Utility.
My question is of two parts:
# Comment this problem be solved permanently, or circumvented (other than to say the customer never disconnect & close always the cover to hibernate)?
# If there is no solution yet, how can a bug report situate with Toshiba, so I can get them the information they need to solve this problem and establish the responsibility?
I will continue to post new information here that I acquire until a permanent solution is reached.Although this problem seems trivial and 'cosmetic' it's always awkward having to provide new machines customers with such an obvious flaw. It ourselves and Toshiba look bad, especially after that we sold the idea that people avoid problems of this kind to choose a Windows XP on Vista platform.
Thank you, Robert Phair
Director.> when the logout or shutdown Windows XP, the program called 'The Toshiba keyboard shortcut properties' does not stop automatically and opens a dialog "end program"...
> We noticed only after the installation of Service Pack 3 on all machines, so I don't know if the problem was present before SP3 has been appliedProblems could be caused by Win XP SP3. I've read several times that SP3 could be not entirely compatible with drivers or 3rd tools
So I guess there is a problem of compatibility between the exe and SP3 files.
By the way; SP3 is not completely released and updated test!I installed SP3 for some tests on my old non-Toshiba laptop and my work LAN card didn't so it of really possible that SP3 causes this.
> There are two likely choices for this in the msconfig startup list: thotkey and TFncKy. Disabling either of these programs, the disappearance of the problem, but the functions of the Fn keys are lost
It is clear that the thotkey and TFncKy files belong to applications that control the FN keys, SO if you would disable this in msconfig then buttons would not work.
So, a solution might be a removal of SP3 System.
In addition, you should try to clean the registry and operating system using the free tool like CCleaner.> Hope to get a response from an engineer from Toshiba, if there is no monitoring of this forum.
I hope this too, but it seems that this forum is only a user forum.
So if you want to report this behavior for laptop, contact the Toshiba ASP in your countrySee you soon
