Satellite Pro L300 - second defective memory Slot?

Hi, I'm trying to install 4 GB of memory in a laptop Satellite Pro L300. This kind of thing, I did a thousand times before.

However, every time I install a module of memory in the second memory slot, the laptop will be a blue screen when windows is loaded. Even running memtest (via bootable cd) will result in a block, so it is not for lack of Windows.

I have the latest version of the BIOS installed (1.50)

Each module of memory works perfectly in the main location on its own.

With the help of a single module of memory in the memory secondary slot (even the original 1 GB module) translates the laptop does not even start.

Is this a known issue? Or is it just a second faulty slot?

Thank you very much!

Maybe it's a non compatible memory module.

What model of laptop you have exactly (L300-xxx)?
What extra RAM you bought?
Have you checked the compatibility?

To be honest on this forum you will find many forums where people have described the same problem after upgrade. Most of these problems described was linked to the use of markets and not compatible good RAM modules.

    Hello, Toshiba users!

I am the proud owner of a laptop Toshiba Satellite L300-171, purchased last year.
one of my memory locations stoped work 4 weeks ago.

This model comes with 3 GB of DDR2 667 MHz RAM. Now it shows me only 2 GB.
I swapped the modules between them (I thought that maybe the 1 GB module not working not) and I have 1 GB of memory. Thus, the two RAM modules work. It's the slot.

You know any reason why this could happen during the night? (perhaps a CMOS setting or something).

And is it true that memory slot can access 2 GB of memory?

    Each issue goes unexpectedly

I have an old... my laptop is about 8 years old... The RAM slot died after 5 years of use I think the higher internal temperature might be one of the reasons why this slot could damage

In my case, the laptop crashed. I removed a faulty slot RAM module and everything worked properly.
The old RAM modules were 512 MB now I ve got a 1 GB of RAM in a housing and the second is empty

  • Satellite Pro L300 - cannot use the 4 GB memory full

My laptop is Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 model: PSLBDE-003005AR

I upgrade my memory to 4 GB using 2x2gb PC2-5300 667 Mhz memory. When I installed the memory and I turn on my laptop the installation always pop up. When I removed the 2 GB of memory to do only 2 GB I spend on my laptop and it works.

I am using windows Vista premium 32-bit edition. I wonder why I do not work with 4 GB of memory. I installed the memory correctly, but it does not work to 4 GB.

    > Laptop is a Satellite Pro L300 PSLB1A - 01 L 019. Lists of the Toshiba Site the maximum memory 2 GB spec however sheets provided with the laptop shows a maximum of 4 GB of RAM.

    This chipset uses this device?
There are different L300 with different chipsets and different hardware components.
Some L300 would be able to support 4 GB and some are limited to 2 GB of RAM.

So if Toshiba says 2 GB are max so it's good and you will not be able to use 4 GB of RAM.

    Welcome them

  • 8 issues of the new owner of the Satellite Pro L300

    Hello to all forum users!

I bought a new Toshiba, the Satellite Pro L300 laptop and have until January 14 to test - if it looks like it is not working properly I will return it to the store where I bought it.

Here is a list of questions I have:

    1. whenever I turn on the laptop or it is suspension or hibernation mode, and when I disable it, the cd/dvd drive makes a clumsy mechanical noise.

It seems to me like the cart that transports the laser and optics is running in a mechanical stop.

    Is this normal?

    2. There is a hot sub-pixel on the screen (in blue) and according to the Toshiba info in the box, this is normal and does not return.

    Should I worry about this?

    3. when I run the test memory at the start of the system, she says she'll start windows automatically at the end of the trial and show me the results of the test.

It performs the test, Vista boot, but I see no reports of results.

Where can I find the report?
Is there a known issue with this test?

    4. the service program Toshiba to perform diagnostics of slot Vista does not work. Whenever I run the test (PCdiag.exe) I get an error message Vista saying a defect was found in the KERNEL32.dll module.

Where can I get a fix for this?
I have already installed the updated files on the Toshiba web site for the "Value Pack", which is where this utility, but still not the error message.

    5. I want access the settings of the bios at startup, but have not found a way to do it again.
F2 gives me a menu for memory test or normal boot system.
ESC is not me in bios Setup either.
There is a utility for bios Toshiba that I can run Vista, and I see that any upgrade bios firmware should also be done through Vista.

Is there a way to access bios at startup?

    6. I would like to run XP on this system and realized that this model (Pro L300 PSLB1E) is compatible XP, and I should be able to download all the drivers from Toshiba to run under XP.

    Does anyone do this?

    7. the laptop and configured Vista Basic when I did the first power on, but the license sticker on the bottom of the laptop has a product key for "Vista OEMAct Business." I was captivated by this laptop as the option to revert to XP Pro with Vista business. The box did not come with any CD or DVD and no manuals explaining how to install Vista Business.

This is reason enough to return the laptop in the store where I bought it, which is a chore, I prefer to avoid if I can install Vista Business.

Can someone help me understand what is happening here?

    8. is there a way to contact technical support by e-mail?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer all of these questions!

    Hello

Two weeks ago, I worked several days on friends Satellite Pro L300. Your questions are interesting and I will try to provide an answer or comment.

1 this is normal behavior. I noticed it on other models of computer laptop too. Right now I use Satellite P200D and I noticed the same thing.

    2. of course, you may have noticed a dead on the screen pixel and more on what you can read on
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB5400ZD0002R01.htm
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/FAQ8702EI0000R01.htm

    3. maybe follow links can help a better understanding:
    http://web1.Toshiba.ca/support/TechSupport/TSBs/all/-TSB001369.htm
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial146.html

    4. what to say about this? I t has not noticed this error and I can recommend just reinstall full VAP. Remove preinstalled system, restart your computer and install the latest version of the Toshiba download page.

    5. When you start the laptop downstairs you can find info how to enter the BIOS settings. It usually takes F2. I really don't understand what is wrong in your case, but must work F2. Press immediately after turning on your laptop. Press several times. You have to work

    6. If you can find the download page of drivers, tools and utilities on Toshiba Windows XP Home edition, you should be able to install and configure Windows XP Home edition on this model of laptop. For the installation of Windows XP edition family please use Windows XP SP2 home edition.

    7. This must be clarified with your local dealer. The fact is that Toshiba doesn t offer any CD/DVD and recovery DVDs must be created by the owner of the laptop. I presume that you didn t seen or read Toshiba reminder about it. This point explains exactly what needs to be done.
The recovery media can be created using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery creator. The shortcut is placed on the desktop.

    8. I'm afraid, you must contact the hotline, but as far as I know Toshiba's toll-free hotline.
Call and ask if there is something you want to know.

    Good luck!

  • BSOD STOP 0 x 00008086 on Satellite Pro L300 - 1 K PSLB9E

    Hello

My son came back from uni with his laptop which, to quote ' is knacked - no idea what the problem - been like that for weeks...» »

At startup, it goes to the green bar of process, then goes off, then comes up with the BSOD - technical details: Stop:

    0 x 00008086 (0x00000000) (0x00000000) (0x00000000) (0x00000000)

At this point, I didn't get any action with her, when I make a bad situation worse.

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 - 1 K (PSLB9E) running Windows Vista.
(I would provide more information, if I could, but can't until I can start to check specifications)

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

BSOD can be caused by a hardware or software problem.
First of all, you should check if it s not software related issue.
In such cases, it of needed to reinstall the Windows operating system.
Usually the new OS installed should not cause any BSOD!

If the Toshiba Recovery disk does not help you, then you should start to investigate
It may be a cause of modules defective memory BSOD issue very often.

However, if you have no knowledge about computers, then you should ask a technician to downtown to control parts.

  • Satellite Pro L300: x 3100 and updated updated driver chipset Intel 965 graphics

Has anyone installed the Intel 7.15.10.1666 driver, dated 02/26/2009 for the Mobile 965 chipset? Here is their web page to download:

    http://www.Intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm965/

Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 doesn't work for some reason unknown to me, with the automatic update driver Intel (download containing the executable file). Therefore, I followed the instructions for manual installation (the download with the zip file).

My laptop works fine with this new driver, and there is a clear improvement in the transitions between images when you use the option to Windows presentation (slideshow).

This new driver installs also 3 Intel graphics programs:
For the management of the display function keys
    Access to the system tray
    Wizard TV

I used Windows Defender to remove these 3 programs that load automatically at startup of the system to maintain a fast startup time and not loading unnecessary programs in memory. There is no me no problem.

Why Toshiba has added that this to the driver download page?

    Hello

    Thanks for this second info...

    > Why Toshiba has added that this to the driver download page?
Who knows maybe it has not been verified, approved and tested by Toshiba?

As far as I know every phone manufacturers test and approve drivers before they will be released in the pages of pilot
Perhaps, it has not been approved...

However, it s good new that this driver works correctly.
I'll check it too on my laptop.

    See you soon

  • Satellite Pro L300 - cursor black screen flashing

    Hi all

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite Pro L300 Vista.

The customer earned him in because when it starts it goes to home Toshiba screen then goes to a black screen with cursor flashing at the top left. I connected external monitor with the same result. Swapped RAM as well.

Have run Memtest (spent), Seagate HDD long test (past), Ultimate boot CD and Winternals without success.
    * F8 does not work * and no more than the resumption of the plant.

Can enter the BIOS F2 and F12 no problems and the HARD drive is listed.

I reinstalled Vista on CD and on reboot it goes back to blinking cursor. I tried booting from the Vista CD repair and system restore. FixBoot commands and FixMbr prompt as well as with the same result.
I feel that it may be a corrupt CMOS sensor? It's like the OS installs correctly, but the computer loses his memory on reboot where the operating system?

Is the battery CMOS easily accessible and removable on this model?

Has anyone experienced these symptoms? Is - fixable at lower cost?

    Hello

If you have clients, I guess you're a technician and hope you have a few pieces of equipment in your store.
Have you tried to set the BIOS to default settings and check again?
If possible try to exchange the HARD drive and test the functionality again.
You can use laptop with Linux live CD (HARD drive not required)?

To be honest that I think n problem t is ORGANIC and, in my opinion, the exchange of the CMOS battery is not necessary.

Please test it with the new HARD drive and post comments.

  • Satellite Pro L300-1AF fails to start

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-1AF that won't start, it stopped working a few weeks ago and I tried startup repair and things, and nothing seemed to work just kept loading a black screen with a cursor but nothing else. After a little more research, I found out how to restore to factory settings holding the 0 key etc. when I tried this he got 54% then the screen everything went black and now it used to boot. It happens with just:

-Unable to start windows. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

    file:\Windows\system32\winload.exe
    status: 0xc000000e
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or damaged.

He also says to insert your installation disc, but I have not one when I bought it.

-What this means and how can I solve this problem? I tried the factory restore and just make it even worse.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

    Hello
    > He also says to insert your installation disc, but I have not one when I bought it.
That's your first problem. This model laptop was delivered without disc recovery but the preinstalled software that allows you to create a recovery media. All this is clearly described in the document s user manuals.
Now, your original Vista operating system has disappeared. On this path virtual I can't say with certainty what the problem is, but somehow, I think the HARD drive's troublemaker.

What to do now? First you need the Windows installation for the installation of the OS disc. Original Vista may not be used more so my advice to you is to get the Win7 32 bit install disc and try to install it on your machine. Win7 is entirely compatible, so there is no problem to install all the necessary drivers, tools and utilities.

By default the BIOS settings and try to install Win7. If the same problem recurs and Setup will stop I m afraid HARD drive is defective. If possible, try to get another HDD for testing purposes.

You know you have to play a bit with your machine now and find out what the problem is.

  • Satellite Pro L300 - what with firewire port express card?

I have a Satellite Pro L300. It doesn't have a Firewire (iLINK) port, I need to capture video from my Sony Handycam footage.

I am wanting to buy a card Express of Firewire. Anyone know what model is compatible with my laptop which runs on Windows Vista (and where I can buy it)?

I bought a Belkin Firewire notebook adapter, but it is not compatible with Windows Vista and it does not seem to fit. It seems to be too big for the express card slot.

    Hello

Generally, all cards Express should be compatible.
You should google for firewire EpressCard.
You will get many more hits...

  • Need driver SATA XP for Satellite Pro L300

    Hello

    I have a Satellite Pro L300 Vista.
If I have problems of major incompatibility with Vista I can swap the readers so I want to set up a second hard drive running on XP Pro.

When I try to set up the XP he sees not the SATA hard drive. I know that it's because XP does not contain the SATA drivers. Couple of questions

    (1) I saw a comment that recommendsto change the BIOS for SATA setting to "Compatibility" and this should work. I tried this but did not find it worked - everyone find it works?

    (2) where can I find the XP SATA driver? I crossed the XP drivers for Satellite Pro L300 Toshiba's web site, but could not see any SATA driver.

    Thank you

    Hello

    As to the question;

    (1) some notebook models containing this function in the BIOS and some don t BIOS that SATA option. If the BIOS has this option, you should be able to put AHCI Compatible mode. Then a SATA driver won't be necessary but also your SATA function would be disabled and HARD drive might work more slowly. So I recommend to set to AHCI, and then reinstall the SATA driver.

    (2) the SATA driver is part of the Intel Matrix Storage Manger. You can include the SATA drivers using nLite software. The necessary files of the SATA driver can be downloaded from Intel here page:

  • Satellite Pro L300-128 - startup problem

    Hi all

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L300-128 GB specification, that has a Celeron M550 running Windows XP and a construction date of the end of June 2008. I have a problem with the switching on of the machine if it has been turned off for a long period of time.

Basically, if the AC cable is inserted into the computer laptop and plugged in, the green light turns on, but pressing the button it does nothing. By the process of elimination, I have found that, after a short period of time (say 15-30 minutes) if (and only if) the AC cable is then removed from the laptop, it lights up then!

Plug the AC cable, while the laptop is on, do not cut the machine and charge the battery as usual. The battery life seems very good, if a little short (say 1.5 - 1.75 hours when used "constantly").

If the computer is restarted, it lights again very well - if it is turned off and left for a few minutes, once again no problem. But, if she is not with the battery fully charged and left all night - it lights again in the morning.

Now, as a new machine, I'm wondering if the battery needs a long initial load (such as a mobile phone)? Nothing is said about it in the manual. I have not yet checked if the battery down completely himself during the night. I haven't run the battery to the laptop for a long time (say all day) to 'trickle charge '. I don't know if the period from 15 to 30 minutes to get the thing started is once again because the battery is completely discharged during the night (I need to check the BIOS to see if "Wake up we LAN/wireless" is activated)-anyone know how long a fully discharged battery must be charged before that the machine will let you start it?

Under the machine, there are two battery release buttons and it seems loose - I don't know if it's related, but can't see how. Moreover, when the question arose (during the first delivery the laptop), I removed the battery and tried power upwards of food, but nothing to do.

I ran all the software updates (chipset etc) I can find on the download page, the BIOS version is 1.40 (last) of the factory.

Any suggestions would be welcome before I have use the service of repair under warranty for the first time! I don't know if it is related to the fact that the power button seems to be a micro switch rather than a good button/switch in the conventional sense of the term, i.e. you can 'feel' it do something!

    Thank you very much
    Richard

    Hello

If you have purchased a new laptop, the battery is empty and needs to be charged in the first place.
You can also connect the adapter to the laptop while the battery is empty and the laptop should also lights up properly.
The laptop must also run without the battery and using only the AC adapter.

It should also be possible to put the laptop by pressing the power button for about a second, if this is not possible, a malfunction of the laptop could be possible.

In such cases, it s always advisable to contact the local ASP for a verification of the laptop.

I mean your laptop is under warranty and if something is not wrong with the machine so everything must be replaced free of charge

In my opinion, the laptop must be checked!

  • Satellite Pro L300-156 - WLAN connection drops every 12 hours

    Hello!

I have a short model "Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-156" (PSLB1E).

    The system state is:

I used the recovery CD (to install Windows XP and other software on this CD).
I've upgraded to the latest version of the BIOS (1.50, 10/07/2008) for my laptop and I downloaded all updates for Windows XP.
I installed the latest WLAN driver for my WIFI (Realtek RTL8187B) card.

    The problem is still there:
Every 12 hours (exactly on the minute!) drops connections.
Not only the Internet, but the local connection.
It is even a kind of matrices.

Both a connection to a local computer and "mIRC" (ssh/telnet-program) to "PuTTY" (program-chat-IRC) says "network error caused abortion of software".

These ping connections not, they die instantly in a tenth of a second.

    Hello

I guess it can be caused by a 3rd third party tool that was installed on your laptop.

I mean it of really strange that disconnected EXCATLY after 12 hours of use.

"I have goggled a bit for the message: network error: Software caused connection abort."
And found that this error is displayed if the Windows network code decides that your network connection is dead. This will happen when you remove the cable network Ethernet-connected computer, or if Windows has any other reason to believe the entire network has become unreachable.

I think you should check the settings of your WLan router. My router refresh / disconnects after 23,59 hours to ensure that the IP address has changed.

  • Satellite Pro L300-1AQ only to charge the battery while the phone is in use

    I have a Toshiba SP L300-1AQ.

In the last month we started having problems with it quit unexpectedly, even on power outlet.
This morning I used it for about a half hour. When I started the battery level was 39% full, so I plugged it into the outlet. The fire area on the front of the laptop came and taskbar in Windows icon showed it was plugged and load (battery light was orange).

After half an hour, I checked the battery and it was down to 16%. I turned down the brightness of the screen to try to reduce energy consumption, but less than a minute at the level of the battery was down to 15%. The toolbar icon and power lights both still power showing tasks. The power adapter was cold to the touch. I expect that it is hot. It seems to me that the power adapter does not provide enough power to run the laptop and recharge the battery. If the laptop is in sleep mode, the battery may charge.

We need a new power adapter?

    Thank you

    Nigel

    Hello

It's really hard to say what the reason is but first of all, I think its hardware problem and not software related.
Maybe the card mother doesn t charge battery problem more or the AC/DC adapter is defective. So can you test another adapter AC/DC to a friend for example? It would be interesting to know because if an AC/DC adapter works it seems to be a problem with the motherboard.

I don t have Satellite Pro L300, I only Satellite L300 but it works really well and I can t notice a problem with the battery charging. It s all ok again :)

    > I tried to boot from a dvd with xp sp3, and report a problem, maybe a virus or a bad hard drive
This may be a virus, because the new installation of the OS would erase the entire HARD disk and you'd get a clean OS.
Maybe it's a hardware problem if it would be a HDD issue then you cannot start the operating system of the s. You would only see an error message that OS has not been found.

You can check in the BIOS if the HARD drive is recognized, otherwise will need you a new HARD drive.

    > and if I have to install xp all still once, where I find drivers Toshiba, utility etc that I need? the laptop is supposed to be new, but it's not come up with any dvd... it's a small store in Mexico City, almost a laptop second hand I think...
The new laptops Toshiba are not equipped with recovery DVDs!
There's a reminder installed on the laptop and it says that you must create a disk recovery first!
Looks like you've ignored it or didn't check this and now you have any disk :(

In any case, Toshiba drivers are on the Toshiba page we because I think that it is a Toshiba model we
