Satellite Pro M30: new HARD drive - what is the max capacity?

Hello

My Toshiba Satellite Pro M30 is 4 years old with a 60 GB hard drive (IDE).
I would like to replace the hard drive with a bigger. What is the best? (BIOS version 1.70, Windows XP Pro SP 3).

I would be happy not only to get the answer to my question but alos to where I might find the answer myself.

Thanks and greetings
waltgallus

Hello

As far as I know the laptop is equipped with an ATA-100 IDE / ATA-6 HARD drive controller.
In this case, you will need to use the 2.5 IDE HARD drive.

I know with certainty that this notebook would support 80 GB HDD, but generally a larger HARD drive should also be possible because the controller is able to manage the 48-bit LBA.
The 48-bit LBA can handle hard drives of more than 120GB.

In my opinion, you can try a 120 GB and also 160 GB HARD drive should be possible.

  • Satellite Pro 2100 - new HARD drive is not booting

    Hello
I wanted to update my SP2100 with a WD1200BEVE. (120 GB of WD).

Copy of disk via USB + speakers worked, but after changing the disc nine does not start: the laptop hangs up with blinking cursor.
Already checked that the partition is active and even a new installation from a CD of XP has the same result! The BIOS seems to accept the drive (if not installing via CD should have failed) so where is the problem?

    Any tips?

    Hi Kannengiesser,

Which is really strange that you can t start up disk even it s recognized in BIOS correctly...

You have the Toshiba Recovery disk? If so, you can try this disc factory settings. If it works, it was just an installation problem.

But I couldn't imagine also that the new HARD drive is not working properly last week I had a similar problem. Made a HARD drive upgrade, but a few days later Windows didn't start because the HARD drive had a bad sector, now I'm waiting for a replacement drive.

I know the conventional wisdom is that the new installation is faster, but, no matter who actually tested and compared the differences?  I know I'll get better performance of the SSD the SATA drive, but I don't know if it's worth the hassle to do a fresh install and redo all my programs and settings.

  • Satellite Pro A200 (PSAF4A) - HARD drive stops and the computer crashes

    Hello

It's my first post in this forum, but certainly not my first issue

I recently had to re - install Windows Vista on my laptop because I had an undetectable virus that attacked Windows and made him useless.
Before that, I had many, many startup errors and windows crashes, but which were preventable or fixable. After the re - install, I noticed that windows stability was much better until recently.

I have not changed the settings or anything what so ever on my computer laptop which could affect the performance somehow, but I have a new problem.

If I have my computer running, performing tasks of base for a few hours I notice that performance and all of a sudden my computer completely stops responding.
The disk shows no signs of life after this point, and his only solution is a "disruptive Shutdown.
This appears in the reliability monitor and performance that all this, there is no input error, and nothing is done after.

I also noticed if either windows defender or other my antivirus runs a system scan that my performance is reduced to the point where I can't run a simple task like opening an Explorer window. This also translates to total non-response. This never happened before a week ago and now it happens every time.

These two started within the past few days and there is no clear reasoning behind it. My inactivity of the processor is always the same, no new processors added and no settings changed.

This could be a problem with Windows, my HARD drive, my CPU or something worse?

Is there a reason why is happening and is there a solution either of these problems?

First of all, you reinstall Windows with the Toshiba recovery disc or disc of Microsoft?

It's strange and not easy to say what's wrong, but in your case I would test the RAM and HARD drive.

There are special tools to test the following:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
    http://Memtest86.com/

On the two Web site, you can download a CD image. Burn it to a CD, start with him and then you can test parts.

    Good luck!

    Hello

Because the problem is with Hotmail, I suggest you to post your questions in the Windows Live Forum.

    Here is the link: http://windowslivehelp.com/product.aspx?productid=1

  • How to get a product key, that I had a new hard drive installed in the computer shop and it seems that there is no key for windows 7

    Original title: window 7

Hi can one tell me how to get a product key, that I had a new hard drive installed in the computer shop and it seems that there is no key for windows 7, I just brought Office 2016 and he did not finish the load down with the windows key 7.

Because Windows 7 is in limited stock because Microsoft ended sales in October 2013, this created demand due to its rarity. This means the retail boxed copies request a bonus, while the OEM System Builder copies remain affordable.

    Full version (retail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-Does not require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

    -Expensive

    Upgrade version (detail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

-Expensive, but less expensive full version

    OEM System Builder version:

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

There is nothing wrong to use it too, especially that all future versions of Windows will be full versions.

You can find software OEM System Builder of dozens of online merchants. The current price for OEM Windows 7 Professional Newegg, for example, is $ 140. When I checked a few minutes ago, Amazon offered packages OEM Windows 7 Professional from several vendors at prices ranging from $ 101 to $ 150. When I checked earlier, a package specifically designed for reconditioned PCs cost only $ 50 for a 64-bit copy.

There is no technical limitation to prevent you from using OEM software on your computer, although this software only works for a clean install, not an upgrade. In the past, Microsoft has been remarkably inconsistent in his advice to clients on the question of whether this practice is allowed. (See "is allowed to use Windows OEM on your own PC? Don't ask Microsoft. »)

  • Satellite Pro M30, it is recommended to install the new nVIDIA display driver?

I own a laptop Satellite Pro M30, which includes a GeForce FX Go5200 GPU from nVIDIA. On 27 July, nVIDIA has released a new driver and related software (version 61.77), as indicated by nVIDIA, fits all the its GPU.

I tried to install this new driver on my laptop (after removing the old driver following the instructions by nVIDIA) but it does not install. Does anyone have an idea why?

Why the new driver is not displayed on the Toshiba support site driver for this laptop?

    Hello

All drivers are designed and tested to laptops and Tom is right about producer for laptop. This means that you can find the download page for all drivers needed on Toshiba.

As much I know Toshiba supports the drivers shipped with the device drivers and updates if necessary.

  • Satellite Pro L100 - which hard drive is maximum for this model.

Dear users, I have a problem with choosing appropriate new HARD drive for this model. I have no idea of this title is to the maximum with what my BIOS will manage. This model, I bought on the year 2006.
I would be grateful for any help.

    Hello

AFAIK this Satellite Pro L100 has been equipped with a SATA HDD controller.
All hard drives 2.5 SATA should therefore be compatible controllers SATA HDD with no limitation.

Beginning taken IDE controllers support only 28-bit LBA and allows only to hard disks up to 128 GB.
Given that the ATA - 6 the 48-bit LBA is supported which allows the use of larger hard drives?

  • Satellite Pro L300 29V - hard drive is dead

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-29V only about 2 months, and suddenly the hard drive (very full) is apparently dead.

Initially the laptop starts Windows correctly, but now the HD is not yet recognized in the BIOS. If it goes beyond the Toshiba splash screen, I get the thing PXE saying "a cable is unplugged. I tried to re-allocation of places the reader twice, but still nothing.

It's really disturbing, because I had transferred recently practically my whole LIFE on it on other computers which many many many hours of musical recordings that I can't really afford to lose.

I think I'll have to buy a HD dock and see if I can read and copy the data.

Does anyone else have this problem? It is likely that the drive could have been erased?

I should also mention that a day or two before this happened, my girlfriend was using etc. Open Mobile (Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word,) - computer I pressed the power button that normally makes hibernate - and when I turned it back, rather than resume where he left off, the computer started from zero and no work/windows were saved.

I'm afraid that might be some stupid day, Avira, or on the Windows updates without end that has damaged something...

EDIT: OK, I have a picture of the error I received before complete failure, but I can't download it here. Here is the text (on a blue screen):

    Hi mate,

First of all, I must say that I have this Satellite L300 too. But I didn t have no problem, the HARD drive works fine for 1.5 years and I use this laptop for Internet and emails everyday. I m very satisfied.

However, what do you hear now?

I hope that you can copy your data to another device and you will need a new HARD drive for your Satellite Pro L300. That's fact!
In addition, there are a few good programs that they can the recovery of data from faulty hard drives. Just search with Google, you will find some interesting links.

    Good luck!

  • On the Satellite Pro A 60 hard drive problems

    Hello.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 with a hard disk of 40 gigabites origin. When I tried to change the old disk with a disk travels Digital Scorpio blue hard 80 gigabites, the does'nt of the bios recognizes it. Is there a solution?

    Hallo Haziz

If you swap the HARD drive IDE HDD compatible and of course not defective it must be recognized correctly.
Please do not expect solution to this if you didn't inform us a HARD drive replacement.

Is - this brand new HARD drive?
You can then Exchange disk HARD BIOS to the default settings and check again the value.

  • How to install Windows without recovery disc - Satellite A660 with new HARD drive

    Hey,.

Portable 500 GB HDD of my friend Toshiba Satellite A660 seems to have died.
I tied him to my laptop on a sata dock and runs a data recovery program because nothing has been saved. The recovery takes forever, however, and she really needs his computer to work.

Because the hard disk may be damaged in any case, I am considering buying a new hard drive and install in the Toshiba.

How can I do this without a recovery disk, though?
The old drive was a partition recovery on it, I think, but this seems useless with a new drive.
Operating system is Windows 7 64 bit home edition.

The product key is on the bottom of the laptop.
I live in Turkey and so I don't think there is a Toshiba store is close.
There are individual computer stores, so I'm confident, I can buy a new internal hard drive (I could find the sata dock here), but he must know what to do to install the software, etc.

    Thank you!
    Chris

    > How can I do this without a recovery disk, though?

You either have the recovery disk or you are going to install the system using the Microsoft Windows disk.
The necessary drivers are in internet on Toshiba UE page.

The recovery disc can also be ordered here:

  • Satellite C660 needs new HARD drive - Windows 7

    Hello

My C660 needs a new hard drive. It came with Windows 7 Home premium pre-installed, and I would like to get back to that.

If I go to Microsoft to download windows 7 with my product key, it gives an error. I contacted the support Ms. I don't remember what they said, but they could not help, perhaps because it was a version of installed manufacturer?

So if I get a new hard drive, how can I go back to my previous operating system, Windows 7 Home Premium?

    Help please?

You can have the previous operating system (recovery image) If you install it using a recovery (DVD or USB) media.
I assume that you did not create this media recovery in the past, the right?

If you always use your laptop and pre-installed OS try please create this media using pre-installed recovery media utility. More info on what you can read in the document of the user manuals.

  • Satellite L500 Support, new hard drive

    Hey,.

So basically a few weeks a power surge overloaded my hard drive,

Unfortunately I lost my receipt so I could not ask for warranty and has to go to a repair shop.

If the repairs were fine, no drama.

But basically, rather before where I'm sure I had vista installed, they have installed Windows 7,

But the problem is that I've lost just some of the features, like built-in webcam Center, so I can't use my webcam and my habit of usb ports seem to work. As I plugged in a usb mouse and I don't even recognize it, it is not even appear in the Device Manager.

Is there something I can do? I don't know if restoring the factory settings will work, because I have a completely new hard drive.

    Hi mate

The webcam software can be downloaded from the page of European driver of Toshiba.
If install you this software, then you will get back the features of webcam.
In addition, the webcam software does not depend on the model of laptop. I could install the Win 7 webcam software out for L500 on my Satellite A210.
So please check it should work.

Generally, the USB port should be recognized automatically without having to install additional drivers. The driver is part of the Windows 7 operating system.

But you should also try to install the Intel chipset utility.
It should allow for the USB ports also works.

  • Satellite L500-01U - new hard drive with 1 TB

I recently bought a second Satellite L500-01U cheap enough without a hard drive. I'm looking at hard disks to put in it (I want to at least 750 GB 1 TB would be preferable) and saw a 1 TB WD, however he said that it is 12.5 mm in height that is larger than normal.

I wonder, is it fit into the hard drive from a Toshiba Satellite L500-01U PSLS9A-01U012 Bay?

In fact, I have no idea how big the hard drive and caddy and stuff is normally.

    Hey,.

According to the specifications that it looks like this by Satellite L500 supports 9.5 mm hard drives only then the WD drive with 12.5 mm will probably not good.

I checked the other brands of HARD drive and Samsung has a 1 TB 2.5 HDD with 9.5 mm height only. He model s HN-M101MBB and I found this on [Amazon.co.uk. | http://www.Amazon.co.uk/Samsung-HN-M101MBB-1000GB-SATA-inches/DP/B0053YLTBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310322519&SR=8-1]
