Satellite Pro M40: HARD drive replacement

Hello

I recently bought a new hard drive for my satellite pro m40 like my old man, we broke up I put the hard drive in the machine properly and it's the same speed, size etc, but the laptop does not recognize it at all.

I tried to swap back to the old hard drive and he acknowledges, the news is a number of slightly different model a new the original is mk6022gax and original is mk6026gax. the two 60 GB, I am told. Please help me if you can.

Thank you.

Hi Ollie,

The only reason I can think is that the new hard drive is may not be configured correctly for your laptop. I know that some Toshiba drives are supplied as C - salt rather than the more usual master configuration, but these are normally reported as such on the nameplate.

It is possible to change the setting of the drive (see the following URL for details) http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/p69067/jumpers.htm

It is also possible that the new disk is defective (unlikely but it should be considered).

Kind regards

  • On Satellite Pro A10 HARD drive replacement

    Hi all

Ive currently got my moms Satellite Pro A10 sitting in front of me. Wouldn't load XP at all so I downloaded Knoppix and ran the liveCD on the laptop. After some tests, it seems that the HARD drive has failed.

    The vehicle currently has a 30GB HDD (MK3021GAS HDD2182 B ZE01 T) with a rated output DC + 5V 0. 7A.

Told me that any HARD drive would work so I ordered a replacement of 100 GB of Fuji, except its a little too long to drive HARD case and it seems to be the cause of my power light flashes orange. Rated power on it is + 5V 0.55 a.

Im stuck, what do I do?

    Hello

    > told me that any HARD drive would work as well
It is not quite correct! There are material limitations.

I discovered that the phone supports 20 GB; 30 GB; 40 GB and possibly a 60 GB HARD drive.
I m not 100% sure of more HARD drive sizes due to the limitation of the BIOS.
You should know that not all HARD drive sizes are recognized by the BIOS.

Further, you should take a look at the supported interface.
The laptop supports an Enhanced IDE (ATA-5) interface and that's why you should buy a HARD drive that require this kind of hardware specification.

  • Satellite Pro 4360 - HARD drive replacement

I have a SP4360 with v.nosey 12 GB of HARD drive I want to replace. In the technical specifications for the 4360 it is listed as EIDE. I looked on EBuyer and there are a couple of replacement if necessary:
Western Digital Scorpio 40 GB EIDE LP 2.5 5400 RPM 8 MB Cache (WD400VE)
    Scorpio 40 GB EIDE LP 2.5 5400 RPM 2 MB Ns (WD400UE)
The WD400VE is listed as ATA-100 connector type, but the WD400UE is listed as EIDE. These use the same connector and either will work in my SP4360?

    Hello

If you want to be 100% sure contact Toshiba service partner. I'm not 100% sure but I think he should avoid any problems. The only question is to know if the laptop can manage with whole HARD drive capacity.

    Good bye

  • Replacement to the satellite Pro A10 hard drive

By turning on the laptop I get IDE #0 ERROR Inter (R) Boot Agent FE v4.1.09 etc. Insert system disk in drive. I do and nothing happens.

Is this to say that the hard drive is spent? If yes where can I get a replacement from? How I don't know what to buy?

    Hi Dean

Well, the ERROR IDE #0 means that the BIOS cannot recognize devices connected to the IDE #0. Above all it s a HARD drive.
So I presume that you HARD drive is dead and must be replaced.

You can buy a compatible HARD drive from a computer or a laptop computer reseller. Of course, you can contact your local Toshiba ASP (authorized service provider) and order this HARD drive too.

Your Pro A10 appears to bear an IDE hard drives.
Therefore, you might choose an IDE HDD with 20, 30 GB or 40 GB

I posted only these three sizes because I'm not sure about bigger hard drives.
Perhaps a larger HARD drive is not recognized by the BIOS.

    See you soon

  • Satellite Pro A100 - HARD drive upgrade

Hi, I have a Satellite Pro A100 with a FUJITSU MHV206OBH HD, he has been faithful and worked for at least three consecutive years, now my HD is filled with data from software etc. etc. I just changed the memory and upgraded to 2 Gygs and really the A100 is now as fast as my Dell XPS. I love my Satellite and want to install a new larger drive,
Has anyone in the forum upgraded to a larger HD, advice, any recommendation of HD, where can I find the service manual for this.

    Best regards

    Thor Hedderich

    Hello

In General, all satellites/Satellite Pro should have SATA hard drives and upgrade is not problematic. You can do this alone.
If your laptop's 60 GB HARD drive only you can improve even with 120 GB or 160 GB.
These hard drives are so cheap.

    Is that enough for you?
Replacement is easy to do and you don't need manuals.

The low side is set with a cover of HARD drive screw. On the disc lid HARD is placed also for computer laptop (one of the 4).
    -Remove the HARD drive cover
-Remove the HARD drive pack by pulling on the cushion of the battery, following the direction of the arrows
-Place the pack HARD drive on a flat surface (such as a desk) and remove the two cushions

I guess you know now how to put a new.

  • Satellite Pro A60 - HARD drive not detected by BIOS

    Hi all!
I received a Pro (PSA65E) Satellite A60 for free... because it has a bug! But I want to fix it and use it.
Problem is that the HARD drive is not recognized by the BIOS. Strange enough, it is possible to format during the initial phase of an installation of the OS from scratch (I tried with Win XP and Win 2000), but facilities do not proceed any further because it won't start HD. If I try to install a time shild, he can't find some data already present in the HD and gives warnongs... which means that it is also possible to write to the disk.
The BIOS screen shows: no drive.
CD-ROM drive is OK, shown as secondary.
I also look in the forums to nothing does not.
    Actions taken so far:
    * flashed the BIOS, now at version 1.90
    * Replaced the original HD (Toshiba, 40 GB) known to be good, by another more small (Toshiba, 30 GB)
    * Tried to remove the drive CD and checked BIOS recognizes, it has been removed and recognized it even when delivered. The same manoeuvre with the HD does not change the BIOS screen: he says still 'no drive '.
    * Tried with the BACK of Partition Magic version: it says "no disk found. Same thing with the backup came with the PC disks.
Tried other stuff found in Fora them: remove all the power sorce, let the PC for a few minutes... open and checked for visible problems in the area of the disc HARD and so on.
    Any suggestion would be appreciated!

    Thank you
    aurcri

  • Satellite Pro A200 - hard drive has lost half it's memory

I have a toshiba Satellite Pro A200 on Vista. Vista came preloaded and I not all disks for it. I got it from the new (Sept 2007). The hard disk is divided into units. Recently my C drive has filled competely and I now no space left (went 55gigs) I store some data in this drive. All my multimedia elements (music, photos, and other files) is in my E drive. I have to run C Cleaner whenever I start in order to have enough space for the operation of the computer. I also remove all but the last restore point in order to function.

I am at my wits end and think I must have a virus or something. Is there a way to restore the computer to the 'new '? I have all my files backed up on an external hard drive, so I don't mind from scratch. Not keeping in mind I have no install discs as Vista came preloaded.

Can anyone help? Please, I beg you!

    Hello

If you don't have a recovery disk, you can order from Toshiba for the money. Otherwise, you can get copy of Windows and installed with the drivers of Toshiba (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp)
Then, you mentioned that hard drive has lost half it's memory, tell you if it was ok before but not available? Please check disk management, utility of the Panel. What is shown here?

  • Satellite P25-S507 - HARD drive replacement

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite P25-S507, which more is under warranty and has begun to report S.M.A.R.T. errors.

SmartMonitor reports a lot of questions especially marked as old age so I need to replace the disk. I was wondering if I can replace it with any standard 2.5 "ATA as an ATA-100 player. as the disk of 60 GB specification is ATA - 5.

    Any help appreciated.

Maybe no one has replaced the HARD drive on this laptop because it s Autric series and is a European forum of Toshiba, and most of us have European workbooks

But the P25 is very similar to the P20 series.
The P20 supports an improved IDE (ATA-5) interface.

Then you should be able to use IDE hard drives.

    If you want to use a faster disk (ATA-6 or later), then possibly the controller would have only allows the performance of ATA-5;
    ATA - 5 = Ultra DMA 66 = 4, = 6 MB/s UDMA-66 ;)

    Hello

You must first install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager before you continue the installation of XP.
It s a same as RAID driver installation procedure
You need to press F6 during installation to include the necessary files of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager

I found this on the page of Intel:
    http://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/Filter_Results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2101&OS FullName = Windows * + XP + Professional & lang = eng & strOSs = 44 & submit = Go %21

Good luck and thanks for posting the results

  • On Satellite Pro 6100 HARD drive password

    Hello

I have an almost dead Satellite Pro 6100, I was almost back on its feet, but we wonder a HHD password on start up. Apparently, one of the portable computers security features is "Password HARD drive on request".

There were ideas! Cannot ask the laptop I can't!

When the HARD drive password is set, and you start the laptop you must enter this password. Otherwise the drive will not spin.
The functionality of the HARD drive password is to secure the data on the disc. If you do not have the password: no chance to use the HARD drive.
So if you can't enter or ask for the password you must swap the HARD drive.

Buy the way it is always strange if someone "owns" a laptop and one does not know the passwords! If you bought the computer laptop may it is stolen...

  • Satellite L300-17I - hard drive replacement

Hi, I have a few questions.

My laptop is Toshiba Satellite L300 - 17l as I have already written. My internal HARD drive is broken. He has some bad sectors, and I do not know how to isolate them so that I could use the rest of the hard disk! Can you help me and why I can't install Windows 7 on drive D, it only allows me to install on the C partition?

And another question: my HARD drive is MK2552GSX but I can not find it on the market, so I ask is it ok if I buy a MK2565GSX? He would be able to me contruction the present MK2552GSX with MK2565GSX or it is impossible? I mean, is this compatible with my main card drive or not? and if not you know witch drives comatible?

    Thank you! :)

    Hi Dimitar,

To be honest, if your hard drive has bad sectors it s time to replace because it s not advisable to save all data on it.

With regard to the new HARD drive: you can install all models I think. Is important that you buy a model of 2.5 HARD drive SATA interface but each HARD disk will work so it s not making not specific.
So, you can buy the Toshiba MK2565GSX you found :)

  • Satellite Pro U200 - hard drive upgrade

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro U200-128 and you want to upgrade the hard drive. I can't find detailed specifications to show me the compatibility, drive type and therefore the size of a disc that I can buy.
I think that its SATA, but there is a lot of info on SATAII, not sure if it will work in my model?

    Any help appreciated

    Hi ollieg72,

You re right. Satellite Pro U200 already uses the HARD drive with SATA interface if you need a HARD SATA 2.5. In addition, it should be possible to use every ability because on SATA interface, there is no capacity limit.

Anyway, SATAII HDD is also working because they are compatible to the old interface of SATA1 downgrade. So it makes no difference if the HDD is SATAII interface or not. ;)

  • Need to drive caddy HARD and coverage for Satellite Pro 6100 HARD drive

Does anyone know the part numbers or to get a hard drive caddy and the Satellite Pro 6100 Series hard drive
    Thank you

What caddy did you? Internal an external 2.5 USB caddy for a HARD drive or the case?
I think that if you need a domestic framework for laptop you should order it since the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country.
I think that guys should be able to order something like this directly from the Toshiba store

  • Re: Satellite A40-151 - HARD drive replacement

    Hello

Following my previous thread (where the hard drive from the A40-151 has been slow and most later made a terrible noise and ultimately did not appear in the bios).

I would replace the drive. I went to the store today and the available drive capacity was well beyond the 30 GB Toshiba MK3021GAS unit. Started 80 GB up to 250 GB. I'm a little worried about the extra power, the speed, the conditions of heat and weather the BIOS recognizes it. Ideally, I would like to find a new MK3021GAS unit. The guy in the store seemed to think that it would be unlikely that someone would still do 30 GB (I guess than the IDE 2.5 "HDD) readers might therefore have to go down for a refurbished drive.

Are there specific readers (speed, capacity, etc.) that do not work with the laptop?

I'm suspicious to a repairer for Toshiba because the age of the laptop the labor costs can exceed the value of the laptop. However accept what are probably the only people to carry the part.

    Kind regards
    Ashley.

    Hey,.

You re right. Satellite A40 uses s HARD drive with older IDE interface. This means that you need a new 2.5 HDD with IDE interface.

As far as I know on the old IDE interface there is a limitation of LBA 28 bits and this means that the laptop can only manage hard disks up to 128 GB. So if you buy a larger HARD drive, you pay for the disk space you can use t.

So I recommend a 120 GB model or less. It should work properly! :)

I looked at the Samsung MP0402H 40 GB hard drive, it will be ok or should it be a special player or some interface?

    Hello

As far as I know, this unit came with 10 GB of HARD drive. I m not 100% sure if you unit supports most HARD drive. In this case, you must contact the Toshiba ASP because they have more experience in this case.
