Satellite Pro M50: 896 MB of RAM available instead of 1536 MB

I recently bought a 1 GB RAM module for my laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro M50. The laptop has already had a 512 MB card installed. I used the scanner memory from crucial.com to ensure what I bought compatible memory.

I installed the 1 GB module, and now all of my system will show is that I have 896 MB of RAM available. It is of course the module 1024Mo less 128 MB for the execution of the shared video card. My BIOS shows also only 896 MB of available RAM, but if I run a program of analysis such as CPU - Z it shows 2 modules of RAM installed with a total of 1536 MB of RAM available.

I tried the two RAM modules individually in both slots and the two modules together in both slots. Both work individually and both work in two locations in memory, but combined the module of 512 MB is not displayed. 1 024 MB module seems to be fine. I am running Win XP SP2.

Do you have any ideas I can do to fix this?

A second question, I used to play DVDs on my laptop, but recently, when I try, the sound crackles & pop & the DVD skips a little every two seconds... any ideas?

See you soon!

Nick

Hello

I found similar issues here in this forum and especially he was bound for the bar of memory is not compatible.

According to the information on the Toshiba Web page module the 1024 MB PC2700 (PA3313U-2M1G) is supported and can be used.

I put t know what the manufacture of your new memory is, but I wouldn't recommend mix parts. Try to use both modules of the same provider and use both with exactly the same specifications.

Hope this helps a little

Good day...

  • Satellite Pro M50 - upgrade RAM does not fit

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade the ram in a Satellite Pro M50, I bought a stick of crucial but although he mounted in the slot (and was regarded as the correct product) machine didn't post with it, I bought another stick (different brand) and installed this but get the same problem. Looking at it, I noticed that the notch in the existing stick of 256 MB is a bit (a few mm) out against the new stick and of course although they fit into the slot, the actual pins on the stick won't line up properly.

Is this a known issue? Do I have to buy a specific brand of RAM in order to modernize the system? Crucial guarantee their RAM to work, very unusual that it didn't work that way for this system of tosh.

Thanks in advace to anyone who can enlighten us!

    GYS

    Hi GYS

S let speak quite clearly, for RAM upgrade, you must use compatible RAM modules. I hope you know what that means compatibility work.
So if you want to be sure you are using the right RAM modules and compatible I recommend modules memory live 1024Mo PC2700 to use with the PA3313U-2M1G part number.

You can upgrade your laptop up to 1 GB of RAM and using two of these modules, you will be able to use maximum RAM and also make sure that the Rams will be suitable for your system.

  • Upgrade CPU on Satellite Pro M50?

Is it possible to upgrade the processor on a Satellite Pro M50 to say an Intel Pentium M 755 SL7EM Socket 479 (mPGA479M) or is the BIOS locked to accept only Celeron M 350J, 360J, 370, 380?

You should first check chipset compatibility.
IIN case the chipset would support the new processor, you have a good chance to get the laptop works properly.

I think the old series M50 Intel 915 PM/915GM/910GML chipset support.
    So, theoretically the
    -Intel Pentium-M Dothan (725/730/740/750/760/770) 1.6 GHz, 1.73 GHz, 1.86 GHz, 2.0 GHz, 2.13 GHz
    and
    -Intel Celeron-M Dothan (350J, 360J, 370) 1.3 GHz, 1.4 GHz and 1.5 GHz
    should be compatible.

But be aware that portable upgrades from manufacturers don t support the CPU.
So no one can tell which device is supported by the BIOS.

Also, the Pentium CPU would create and produce more heat and this may affect the functionality of the laptop. In the worst case system and the RAM would be crashes due to the higher temperature.

  • Satellite Pro M50: ATI Radeon Mobility 200 - error blue screen

    Hello

My girlfriend has a Satellite Pro M50, she bought 3 weeks ago about, recently it started to freeze so that in general use (play music, browse the web via wifi etc.) and then it blue screens. The blue display lights only for a split second before disappearing and the reboot of the machine.

Once he started again I send the error report to Microsoft and it lets me know that he could have the ATI drivers, I went to the website of ati to search for drivers, but for some reason any, that there is none for the mobility of 200 m, I used the drivers from the toshiba to the opposite site and this seemed to solve the problem for a short time , but it's happening now once again, is this a hardware problem or software and what should I do?

any ideas anyone (specification of machine below)?

    Toshiba Satellite Pro M50
    Intel Celeron 1.5 ghz
    512 MB of RAM
    40 GB HARD drive
ATI Mobility Radeon 200 m graphics card
    Win XP Home Ed

    see you soon

    Rich

    Hello

The blue screen occurs due to the failure of the serious software or hardware failure. You the case looks like a hardware problem. As John said in the first response, it could be the graphics card or something similar.
You guarantee is valid and I really recommend to contact the Toshiba authorized service partner in your country for the control of the machine.
If replacements are needed this should be done for free because of the valid guarantee.

  • Satellite Pro M50 is doing weird things perpetually

    Hello

I come to you in a State of defeat, I have in my care at the present time a friends Satellite Pro M50, Model No.: PSM55E-003001EN, who does BIZARRE things perpetually, I tried to diagnose for a few weeks and am still absolutely perplexed.

When started after a period of time (for example, be left overnight), the computer turns on, the rotation of the fan disc to the top, but nothing comes on the screen, it is completely blank. If you turn it off and turn back on again immediately, after that it will start and 'messages' as usual. The reason for this is a mystery to me, because it is only a problem the first time that you turn it on after a while to be turned off, then it disappears.

Secondly, when it does not start XP, half the time that it will work fine until the screen is touched (tilted forward or backward), which either will make return empty (but always backlit), or BSOD. The other half of the time, it will start in XP, but after a few moments enclosing or suffer the cutting issue screen without being hit at all. I also tried connected to an external monitor, where the output seems to have the same behavior as the computer screen (on off the moment when you off/white/frozen etc.).

Now, I have re-installed times mulitple XP on the computer, and (outside), it will work perfectly well in a base state being moved and tilted in all directions, I can think of trying, until I have install the ATI display driver recommended from the Web from Toshiba or legacy ATI site When the problems about screen clipping and booting into the operating system seem to start...

I also tried to install a distribution of Ubuntu on the machine, which works properly again for awhile once installation is complete, until the machine is turned off and left overnight, the next day, wherever he hangs at startup 'Ubuntu' screen and does not start despite any number of reboots.

I ran Memtest and it indicates that the RAM is fine, and the HARD drive was also tested and is in working condition. Now, this does not seem to point me in the direction of a flaw with the graphics chip, but I don't know if it would force the latter to expose ALL of the behaviors that shows this machine...

Someone at - it advice about these issues? Given the age of the machine and taking into account the cost of a new phone of base, I don't think that it is worth my friend spend money on fixing the thing, I try right here save the dump.

    Thank you.

I can't say with certainty what the problem but, as Akuma have already written, there must be a hardware problem.
What you can do about it? You can try to find it on eBay or elsewhere mainboard handed to nine and exchange it in the hope that everything will be OK. Otherwise you can give advice to your friend to save money and buy new laptops.

    Hi all

I have just rebuilt windows THAN XP on my Satellite Pro M50 and everything seems fine, except that before I reinstalled XP my device manager showed all my 1 025 Meg of memory.

Now, it shows only 768 Meg. However, Information System shows all Meg 1 025. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello

I suppose that the memory was not upgraded. That I myself remember portable Pro M50 shipped with 256 MB + 512 MB modules.
That is why I see problems with memory. It should show 768 MB.

Hoe did you check the value of the memory in the system information?

  • Toshiba Satellite Pro M50 comaptible - tools for WIndows 7

    Hello world
I own Satellite Pro M50, listed as a model on the official website of Toshiba - drivers and tools provided by Toshiba are only for XP and several of them for Vista.

I installed Windows 7 32 bit and I am very satisfied with the speed of the computer now. Windows 7 was able to detect my devices (screen, usb, wifi, lan) and drivers updated successfully. Everything seems to work OK now.

    Problem is with Toshiba tools.
MasterG (to whom I am very grateful, but I have not found a way how to address him directly) advised another user with the old model (M100-221) to use PPV and Flash Card Utility Support for series L500.
    (for more details: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=57586&tstart=0)

I tried, and the utility of Support Flash Card worked. Now, I can use the Fn key.

There are also a few features Toshiba I would run: Power Saver, utility TouchPad and so on. How could I know what model has tools that could function as a substitute for my only or was it just a coincidence that it worked?

Thank you very much in advance, and greetings to the whole community of toshiba, I'm really pleased with this support forums.

    Bevo

    Hi Ben,

It of Nice to hear that you have successfully install Windows 7 successfully on your Satellite Pro M50 and you also like the forum like me. :)

    What tools you want exactly?
There are a few differences between XP and Windows 7 tools. For example, Power Saver already belongs to a package of added value, and you can find the parameters energy saver in Windows the Windows Management.

The utility of touchpad you can download other laptops. AFAIK driver Synaptics and Alps Electric should work on all models, but you need to test, I n t have Satellite Pro M50.

In addition a list of compatible tools does not for me. Just try it.
Important is that you install Windows 7 versions or at least for Vista. I think that the XP don t work tools.

    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite Pro M50 with Vista: how to get the S-video on the job?

    Hi all

I have a vista equipped Satellite Pro M50. Does anyone know how to get the S-video on the job? I can't understand.

    Inadvance, see you soon

    Phil

Did you look in the user manual?
This doc is always pre-installed on laptop and provides useful information. Also how to connect a TV and use simple notebooks ports.

A hint; You must use an s-video cable to connect the laptop to the TV.
Then use the FN + F5 key combination to switch between display devices.
Sometimes the special s-video option must be enabled on the TV.

I would recommend consulting the manual of the TV also.

    Good bye

  • Satellite Pro M50: Lobos SkyMe internet phone will not be installed when connect you

I would welcome suggestions for a USB problem.

A Lobos SkyMe internet phone will not install when it is connected to a USB port, but will install when plugged into my Shuttle PC.
Historical precedents with the USB ports on this Satellite Pro M50, I'm pretty much at my wits end.

Apparently, no driver is necessary, but I wonder if there is a registry hack to force recognition?

    Hello

Could you describe in detail what does not work? You get an error message?

I m not an expert in internet phone installation and didn t install similar devices in the past, but I imagine that the phone should recognize the new plugged the USB with no problems.

If there is a problem with the USB device recognition go to Device Manager and remove all the controllers and the USB ports.
    Reboot the laptop.

After that process, the operating system installs the ports again.
Then you could try to connect the external USB device to the laptop USB port.

PS; to make sure that the USB ports will provide enough power, you must disable USB energy saving properties.

  • Satellite Pro M50: WLan connection after 10 min lost IP address

    I just bought a Satellite Pro M50.
I can connect to the router using Congfigfree OK, but after 10 minutes or if she loses IP etc.
Have refresh the wireless connection to reconnect.
This continues every 10 minutes approximately.

    Hello

Thanks for the information updated and nice that it works.
As far as I know, this option is enabled in power safe during work only with batteries.
But for better performance of Wlan this sure option should be disabled.

  • Satellite Pro 4600: Question about upgrade RAM, CPU, motherboard

    Hello

I have a SP4600 and because I love this machine, I want to give him the chance to stay with me - but unfortunately, it will only work by increasing its performance...

Is anyone here has made some experiences in upgrading a SP4600 more than 512 MB of RAM?
I know that this machine uses PC100 SD - RAM that is available up to 256 MB.
But someone has tried successfully to put in PC133 memory? And if so, to were the limit?

And more: what about the upgrade of the rest, for example, the CPU or the whole motherboard?
Currently, his heart beats with 700 Mhz (Celeron). Would it be as easy as just another graft?
Or would it be easier to exchange the whole motherboard?
I've never done anything like this before and I'm not sure how the rest of the system can react on these interventions, in particular because the we-board-video and sound on board...

I would be delighted if someone could give me some positive feedback on these issues...

    Hello

You can only use the memory 100 Mhz modules because the FSB is limited to 100 MHz.
If you use 133 Mhz modules, they will work only at 100 Mhz.

You can upgrade the satellite Pro 4600 until 512 MB (2x256MB)
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=28447&ft=m&St=3

Other devices such as the CPU or GPU are not extensible and the motherboard may be replaced only with the same motherboard

Finally, you should know that the laptop technology is a little different and you can't compare it with any desktop computer. You can update some parts such as the memory or HARD drive, but that s all the

    Hello everyone,

I just want to know if the back of the satellite Pro R50 - B - 10 K gives access to the Ram and maybe to HD without opening the machine.

Unfortunately this model does ram or hard drive to the cover on the underside, so if you want to have full access to two hardware components, down the cover should be removed.
