Satellite Pro M70 - SR3: cause of Serial Port USB

Recently bought portable computer Pro Satellite M70 - SR3. Tried to connect my Garmin Streetpilot 3. This requires the serial port. Buy the store of the local computer conversion kit.
Install the drivers from the disc that came with the cable. No luck
Garmin does not display a USB connection. Contacted Garmin, they say that it is a problem of Toshiba.

Help!

Hello

Sorry, but I don't think that it is a problem of Toshiba.
I put t know which converter you purchased, but perhaps is not a compatible part.
If the garmin do not display USB connection so I don't know why it should be a problem of Toshiba. Have you tried to connect this device to another computer?

Good bye

    Hello

Believe me, that's not easy to say what the problem may be. It is important to see if the problem occurs because of hardware or software may be. I recommend you to backup all your data and reinstall the unit using rescue media. On this way the unit will be factory settings and will be clean preinstalled. Test your USB devices and see what happens.

Try to use some standard like USB stick or external HARD disk parts, because in this case, you must not install any drivers please. If you use other devices like USB webcam with own software and drivers, it is possible that something goes wrong, but what. On this path, it is not possible to say.

In this case and the case above, the only way to get the modem ISDN USB running again is physically disconnect and reconnect.

The reason why it is a crucial issue is that:
    (1) the modem speed is halved or disconnected
    (2) the ISP continues to full rate for a double load connection even if a channel has been dropped.

    Hello

I have Satellite M70-159 and I didn t notice any strange problems with the USB ports. I use a few of them as printer, webcam, USB, memory stick, optical mouse, and external HARD drive. The devices are recognized correctly and I always remove without option delete without danger.

Now I have Vista pre-installed and there is no problem so far. If I understand you right USB ports work fine but there is problem with USB modem only. Am I wrong?
Also try to contact the producer of modem support. Is perhaps the question like this known and if all goes well, they have a logical explanation.

  • Satellite Pro M70: What USB 2.0 Port Replicator is compatible?

Would be grateful if someone could advise me on the purchase of a USB 2.0 port replicator.

I think the 3 USB 2.0 ports on my laptop Pro M70 are not enough, and that's why I want to buy a USB 2.0 Port Replicator.

The site of the Toshiba shop specifies USB 2.0 Port Replicator II (UK) with port network, part number: PX1173U-1PRP, price: 49,93 GBP.

It has 4 USB ports 2.0, which would give me a total of 6 USB 2.0 ports, which would be the absolute minimum I want. (It also has 2 PS/2 ports, 1 serial port RS232 and 1 USB 2.0 port network that takes in charge rates of 10 / 100 Mbps).

Can anyone tell if it is powered by the laptop, or by it's own adapter?

Unfortunately, the Web of Toshiba site has advised that it is currently out of stock and are difficult to get in on all the time, as they are the subject of a sort of "green manufacturing" test.

This prompted me to consider buying a replicator USB 2.0 ports alternative and all I would prefer one with more than 4 USB 2.0 ports, and in fact 6 or more USB 2.0 ports would be preferable. I'm not really interested in other types of ports that are often provided with the replicators of USB 2.0 ports.

I would be grateful if someone could recommend/Advisor at a replicator USB 2.0 ports alternative that would be compatible with my laptop Pro M70.

One of my concerns is how the port replicator USB 2.0 Port is powered. I think I would have preferred that the unit is powered by its own adapter, I understand is 5 Volts with 500 milliamps for each port, rather than to the laptop (probably would be less tax on the laptop, with less heating).

    Thank you
    AlanCB

I can't comment on the question whether the Replicator you mention has its own power source, although I suspect, he does

However, I have a satellite Pro M70 too and with a similar problem and wanting a hub to connect to all my external printers, Sandy etc using just one connection, I buy PA3390E-1MPM - a hub of Toshiba, Audio/USB multimedia center, which goes a step further and provides a hub not only for USB sources , but also for the speakers etc.

It has its own power supply to the unit and connects via USB 2.0 to my laptop. It is also stackable with the Toshiba Gigastore 250 GB USB 2.0 external hard drive (PA3392E-1MPS) which I also use for backups, storing external data etc.

Had the two units for 3 months now and everything works fine. I got headr of some problems with people in loss of access to the hard drive, but it seems that it was never if it has been disconnected by pulling the cord out usb, rather than make a ' Safely Remove Hardware to disconnect the USB device and so far have had no probs at all

It has 4 ports, more port network and connections from the speakers for the configurations 2/2.1/4/4.1/5.1 full, more Creative software like drivers, more remote control useful to control audio devices. Oh, and also a Surround sound, and EAX

Maybe a little more of your option, but worth it in my opinion. If you can't find it on the Toshiba site I have purchased from www.insight.com

    Hope that helps

  • Satellite Pro M70: Question on the port on the left hand side

Another question regarding the Pro M70 PSM75E, next to the hard drive (left side) there is a port which you can take off. I took it of and it looks like a chip grafx or something: s someone with the M70 not what it is.

    Hello

Well, there are of many Satellite Pro M70. It s a great series.
But for example Satellite Pro M70-110 has a PCMCIA Type II slot.
You can use the different PCMICA card in this slot. But they must be compatible.
I guess this slot machine, you found a plastic Board. This is only for security.

However, if you want to learn more about your device, I would recommend reading the user manual which must be preinstalled on your laptop. You will find very, very, very ;) useful information.

  • Video capture with a satellite Pro M70: which ports and drives can I use?

I want to edit my home movies on my Satellite Pro M70 using WXP Pro (win dvd or movie maker). I want to capture video from my panasonic camcorder that has digital strips. What are the ports that I can use and what cables do I need? I'm desperate to edit my recent wedding video to put on DVD and mail it to my mom. The panasonic website has ignored me! Any advice anyone?

Well, as far as I know this unit has only one S-video output port. In this case, you can connect the laptop to the TV and look at the photo of laptop to TV but it of not possible to receive all the signals of TV or any other device on your laptop.
To receive the signals, you need a composite or a s-video port.

However, if the camcorder has a firewire if port you can send digital files through the firewire connection. But this should only work with digital files that are saved on the camcorder.

  • Satellite Pro M70 - USB port does not recognize the device

My Satellite Pro M70 has three USB slots, one on the left and two (vertically one above the other) at the back of the laptop.

The top slot to USB in the back started giving problems. Sometimes, my computer can't see all that I plugged in there. But if I unplug anything - usually the printer or the mouse - the computer will usually see it then.

What is the problem? Can do nothing about it?

My operating system is XP. and my laptop is 4.33 year.

    Thank you.

    Hi Mannix,

Have you already updated the chipset drivers?

I read in the forum about these questions and normally helps to reinstall the chipset driver. :)

  • Satellite Pro M70 - what HARD drive can you recommend?

I have Satellite Pro M70 and I have a 60GB HDD that I see what it s SATA 8 MB of buffer memory. The processor it s 1.73 GHz. I see that there is the Samsung typical 160 GB and the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 160 GB at the same price, which is better?

And for only $ 11 more there's a Scorpio blue Western digital 320 with even 8 MB buffer than other 2. But I don t think so 320, that's a lot for Satellite Pro M70, and I have an external drive 2.5 "250 GB, data with this is not problem.

What the best solution for this laptop? I don t want to burn now the phone LOL.

    Thank you

    Hello

If your laptop is already equipped with SATA interface, you can use each HDD with SATA1 or SATA2 port on the new SATA interface there is no limit on the old standard IDE

It s your choice what HARD drive you buy because I put t know your needs, but in my opinion it makes no difference which manufacturing you buy the HARD drive. All hard drives are similar and there is no significant difference (performance).
I made good experiences with Western Digital and Hitachi hard drives.

By the way: you can buy a HARD drive with 7200 rpm or 5400.rpm. Latter is faster but requires more power. In my opinion, this is useful if you often work with large files.

    Hello

I've never heard of the Microsoft kernel DLS synthesizer and that's why I studied a bit.

I found this MS developer site:
    http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa940369.aspx

    It is said:
The component of the Microsoft kernel DLS synthesizer provides the port of DMusic, content class miniport driver in the dmusic.sys file

It seems that most of the problems with this kernel occur due to lack of SP2.
If you have installed Windows XP you need to update the operating system to the State.
All service packages must be installed!

  • Satellite Pro M70-275 slower than the Satellite M70-110?

    Hello

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a portable Satellite M70-110, with Centrino 1.7 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM. Last week, this computer got stolen from my apartment. (Damn them thieves low-life..)
I wanted to buy exactly the same model again, but he could not find anywhere. Instead, I bought a Satellite Pro M70-275 because he seems to be pretty much the same thing, with a great 2 GHz. processor, it's going to be a little faster then, I thought.
The problem is that it feels like the new is slower; I don't understand why. No more slow, as when you are working with graphics heavy, cause I don't have, but slower at startup, when this regime between programs and so on.

The old used XP Home Edition, the new one XP Pro. This could be the problem; XP Pro requires more RAM?

The old man had an ATI Radeon x 700, the new a x600se, but I can't imagine that this could make a difference with the applications that I am running.
I use a Soundblaster PCIMCA card in the new. This could be a problem?

    Any ideas appreciated!

    Hello

As much as I know there is not much difference between WXP Home and Pro, and I think that the use of the PCMCIA card. Try to turn off the sound in the BIOS and also disable it in Device Manager.

  • Re: Satellite Pro M70 - high utilization of the processor - low Performance

I sincerely hope that someone can help you. I do not consider myself really computer illiterate, but this is where my understanding ends and I really value any assistance.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70 for 2 years and I'm a final Defender to Toshiba. However, my operating system is slow. Average day use with Internet Explorer and Office 2007 is a laborious process that takes too much time. I have had conflicts with Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, that works perfectly.

But turn on the computer takes forever. The CPU usage is generally high and System Idle process as well. I reinstalled Windows XP from the Boot Toshiba DVD already 4 times to nine and install everything over and over again. Each time after all to speed once again, performance is disappointing.

I expanded RAM to 1.49 GB that makes little difference from the original 1/3 of RAM. It seems that something is slowing down the computer, but it is not visible in the process; but a certain process of svhost.exe who have the ability to handle little or the CPU usage.

I've used Windows Gold Certified Uniblue Power Suite with a good registry cleaner. This helps a little, but after a few days, it seems only make it worse. I have a processor Intel Pentium M 1.73 GHz. search online reveals that Trend Micro IS 2008 is pretty good and demanding little capacity compared to the competing security packages.

Is this system/software related or it could be a hardware problem?

    Thanks in advance to all!

    Hello

I doubt that it could be a hardware problem, I mean a CPU usage can get if a certain service or applications would be run in the background of the OS.

Generally, Antivirus applications are a kind of software that could cause this problem I had a Norton System works installed on my laptop and this software needs a lot of resources that slowed down the laptop
In addition, some applications of Toshiba which are installed and running in the background may affect performance. But these applications are required to be able to use all the features of the laptop

However, in msconfig you could disable.
Launch msconfig-> Startup tab and disable some processes that are not necessary for you.

In addition, you can use the CCleaner to clean the registry and operating system

  • HDD upgrade for Satellite Pro M70

Is anyone know the upgrades available to change the standard 60GB hard drive in the Satellite Pro M70 (PSM76E-00100KEN) with something bigger.

The Toshiba Options site shows only optionally available external hard drives, but noticed that the newer models of the same family have between 80 and 100 GB discs, so I asked if any of these would correspond, for example:

    PSM75E-00P004EN uses a 100 GB drive
    PSM76E-00500KEN uses a 80 GB drive

You can also all drives available from other sources that might be suitable - what spec should I look, speed, installation size, connections etc. and BIOS compatibility

All the info appreciated, surprising how fast the disk fills up, and I would like to keep in-house, although I also use an external drive of 250 GB for home storage and backups etc.

    Thank you

    Hello

The Satellite Pro M70 series is great, but I think that every m70 must support a HARD drive with serial - ATA interface.
Some units have been delivered with a 80 GB HARD drive. In my view, that a 100 GB HARD drive should also work.

I found a few properties of the HARD drive:
    Rotating disk: 5400 RPM
    Buffer size: 8 MB
    Number of discs: 2
    Number of Heads: 4

  • Satellite Pro M70-113: modem - very slow

    Hello

I have a toshiba satellite pro m70-113 laptop. I bought it in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.

The problem is that when I use the modem (dialup) software from toshiba to connect to internet... the connection is very very slow... While on the same line, on my desk speed isn't a problem... on average, I get 1/4th of the speed I get on my desk... and on the same telephone line...

    What is the problem?

Can someone help me in this... are there any configuration software that can fix this problem?

    Help will be very appreciated...

    Thank you.

    Hello

I don't know what your desktop device modem, but modems takes care of different speeds.
You can also check the properties of the modem for laptop.
Go to the Toshiba software modem properties and check under the tab "modem".
You will find the maximum port speed. This should be set to the highest value.

It is also possible that different providers use a different speed of data transmission.
Some time ago I used a modem and I was very surprised that my speed of data transmission is different on the different suppliers.
As you can see there are many factors why you don? t get the same speed of modem.

Connecting about 40 Kbps, but I can't even open the yahoo site just because it's very slow. I mean it seems that there is no data transfer... I have to wait 5 min load yahoo.com!
I tried uninstalling, reinstalling the drivers, but the problem is the same...

And on the same telephone line, when I connect to the net on my desktop, I get a decent speed. If the problem is not telephone line or my ISP, but something on my laptop hardware modem, or its drivers.

    Please can someone help me...

Thank you, hoping for an answer...

    Hello

Please check the maximum speed of the port and set it to the maximum level. You can find it in the properties of the modem in Device Manager.

1 Wireles Internet connection problem: my laptop Satellite Pro M70-220 (part number: PSM75E-00D008G3) is an adapter Intel(r) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection, with driver version 9.0.2.25, according to Device Manager

I am staying with someone, and I'm trying to use his internet connection through its network (WPA2) secure wireless home.
I could connect my laptop to the wireless network, but I can not get Internet Explorer and Outlook Express to work on it.
I tried the Intel Wireless driver update to the latest version of the driver 9.0.4.39, but got the same result, and I'm back to Driver version 9.0.2.25.

If you'd be grateful if someone could advise me on what could cause this problem and how to solve it.

    2. wireless driver update: site Web de Toshiba advised me for the two years that there is a driver update available (Atheros Wireless Driver v 7.7.0.406.2) for my laptop, but I have NOT installed, because the wireless network adapter Intel(r) PRO/Wireless 2200BG, NOT of Atheros.

    Ques:am I correct?

Question: Why the Web from Toshiba site recommends the Atheros wireless driver update?

    Thank you

    Hi Alan

    1.
Can you use IE and other applications if the WIFI network is not secure with WPA2?
    You can test using WEP?
Just to be safe because of securing WLAN.

    2.
You are right. Your model has Intel WLAN card and if you need a new driver just visit Portal Toshiba WLAn under http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/

I really don't know what service or upgrade of system you are using, but if everything works well you don't need any update to date.
