  • Satellite Pro U400-130 - hard drive Partition - help

    Hi all

    I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-130 mobile - cell PSU45E-005005EN

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo (T8400) 2.26 GHz, the front side Bus speed: 1066 MHz, level 2: 3 MB Cache
    3072 MB (1024 + 2048 MB) DDR2 RAM
    250 GB hard drive
    Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition

What I've found, is that the hard drive is partitioned into two separate drives

    1. the drive C - 117 GB - hand player - all programs, user accounts and files of work / are saved on the C drive.
2 drive E - 113 GB - A folder titled HDDRecovery (size 4.42 GB) nothing elese is on the E drive.
    3. This only totals to 230 GB, then where is the other 20 GB?

I want to know/how is is:

    1. Why are we doing this way?
    2. What is the purpose of the file recovery Drive E and it does not require the space of 113 GB?

    3. If I increase the size of drive C to say 55GO and decrease the size of drive E?
    3.1 is it possible?
    3.2 what impact will?

    4. the drives C and E only total 230 GB so where is the other 20 GB?

    Can someone please help

    Thank you very much

    (1) the HARD disk is partitioned into 3 partitions and not 2! Go to the disk management utility and you will see that there is a hidden partition. This hidden partition is created by Vista. It contains the necessary backup files that are needed for the repair of the system, if something goes wrong with your operating system.

    (2) the second partition contains the record of recovery of HARD drive that allows you to retrieve the laptop without using recovery discs. But of course, you are able to create a recovery disk and it s highly recommended to create a recovery disk using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.

3.1 I think that this could be possible, but before that you'd change any partition size I recommend the creation of the recovery disk because there is a high risk that after changing the size of partitions you drive HARD recovery option does not work.

    3.2) see point 3.1

4.) I think the other hidden partition using this 20 GB. Also please note that 250GB are not really 250 GB 1 GB is not 1000MB but 1024MB.
This means that the 250 GB HARD drive is not 250 000 MB but 238 418 MB

  • Satellite Pro U400-130 - Conexant and 'Stereo Mix' in question

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-130 (downgraded from Vista to XP) with the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 "audio card" installed.

Although this seems to support HD audio, I can't find any option to use or activate the "Stereo Mix" option in the Windows console. I tried a few settings to registry and some different drivers, but so far, the option remained absent.

I know this forum and other comments on the net that Conexant audio cards do not support the stereo mix, but I was wondering if someone could confirm that this is certainly the case for SmartAudio 221?

Similarly, anyone know of another method to record the sound 'as heard' on the computer? So Far, the options appear to be a) buy an external sound card, or b) connect the plug headphone mini-jack on the mic with a cable jack.

After using a p3500 old Portege of 8 quite happy with this function (actually pretty basic), it is very disappointing to find that this card cannot support it.

    See you soon,.
    Select this option.

    > I can't find any option to use or activate the "Stereo Mix" option in the Windows mixer
    > I know this forum and other reviews on the net that the Conexant sound cards may not support stereo > Mix, but I was wondering if anyone could confirm this is certainly the case for SmartAudio 221?

I can confirm this because I have a laptop (NOT from Toshiba one) that was equipped with the Conexant audio chip and the other laptop (Toshiba Satellite a series has) that supports the Realtek audio chip.

The machine with Realtek audio chip contains stereo mix and the other non-Toshiba unit that supports the audio chip Conexant does not support the stereo mix

As far as I know the update of the driver won't help you because it looks like a hardware limitation of chip Conexant!

However, thanks for the info about the Virtual Audio Cable tool.
I think I'll try it next time

  • Satellite Pro U400-130 - restarts after shutdown down

    Hello

I bought a laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-130. The operating system is Windows Vista 32 bit.

I have a problem when I try to quit the Menu Start-Shut Down laptop. The system will reboot after that. Then if I select closes without connecting to my account, it really stops.

Please, could you help me with this?

It's a little confusing because you said if I select shut down without logging in to my account, it really stops.
    Say you stop without connection?

However, I think you make a mistake.
Make sure you have all the Service Packs and hotfixes installed for Vista.

Maybe the button closure is misconfigured. The default action is sleep. To verify this action. Open a command prompt and enter
    Powercfg.cpl, 1
There you can change the action of power button in the start menu.

Maybe its waiting for a network connection? Try to disable network devices in Device Manager and reboot.

Or if you have installed an antivirus program, check that its not not looking for a floppy disk at startup drive.

Vista event viewer can tell you which delays the startup process.

  • Re: Satellite Pro U400 - Windows could not start, how to recover?

I hope this is the right forum to display this property (if not, please let me know where I should post this) and nude w / a beginner like me. Any help or direction will be appreciated.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-160 is more than a year. I have not used a lot lately, because I usually use my netbook computer for day to day stuff, but the Toshiba contains some files I want to see lost. That's the message that came when I turned on my laptop for the last time:

"Unable to start Windows. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
    To solve the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
    2. choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    3. click on "repair your computer".

If you do not have the disk, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance

    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred trying to read the boot configuration data. "

Usually, I store all my software as a whole but I recently changed from home and for the life of me, I can't find the Toshiba recovery system disk. Even if I did, however, which would mean losing all files on my computer?
My question is, is there a way to fix this without losing all data? Should I first try to save the data somehow and then solve the problem? And finally, how to solve this problem with/without the recovery CD?

Thanks in advance. Any help will be MUCH appreciated.
PS. This look is like a virus? What is a windows update that has corrupted some files?

    Hi monstarika,

You can access the Windows Advanced Boot menu and boot into safe mode?
If so try also to start the recovery of HARD drive if you choose fix my computer. If the operating system preinstalled by Toshiba is still installed, you can use this feature.

If this work of t doesn't and you don t have the recovery disc, you can order directly in an enw one of Toshiba. That s no problem because you can order it online here:

  • Satellite Pro U400-130 begin to operate automatically in internet

My Toshiba U400-130 appears to have a clean mind - if I go on a website, Ebay for example and start working through the sales process, with no outside assistance from me, the computer will return to the previous web page and maybe come back another web page to the original signature on the page. Frequently, by pressing the next button, I can get back to where I left off but not always - what can be the cause?

I don't think I have a virus that I run Zone Alarm and Force field and you will have to be Houdini to get into the system.
Please don't look on that as a challenge and every crook out to Christianity is now trying to access my machine!

    Hello

This strange s sound a little magic
It s good idea to use additional security tools and firewalls like Zone Alarm, but it is still a rest of risk that your system could be attacked by a virus, Trojan or similar malware

In your case, I would recommend to recover the laptop using the Toshiba recovery disc. This recovery disk will format the whole HARD disk and install the whole system again.
I think that the format of HARD drive is necessary and important to be 100% sure that the malware has been removed.

  • Satellite Pro L100 - DVD will not turn even upward

My friend gave me an old Satellite Pro L100 PSLA4E 005009EN to look at. He acknowledges not or read the DVD. I tried using multimedia Nero, Cyberlink and VLC players, but they can't watch a DVD. A CD will play without a problem, but a DVD will not yet run abreast.

When I look in my computer it says that a TSST Corp CD/DVD TS-L632M is installed, but when I look at the edge of the disc itself, it says DVD. R/RW with lightscribe? The software is also the original software yet.
Since the downloads for this model of Toshiba page, I see that the TSST DVD - RAM drive was equipped initially to the laptop so I'm assuming that a DVD - RW was equipped afterwards?

I find the hardware changes in device if Manager shows nothing. If I try to update the drivers found nothing? In desperation I tried to reinstall the drivers from the Toshiba site, but it does not help?
If this is the case why Windows XP does not recognize a DVD - RW?

If someone sees something I missed please?

    Hey,.

Different laptops come with a different material maybe if the laptop was supplied with this player, but in my opinion it of important either.

The fact is if DVD is not recognized it seems to be a hardware malfunction, but what you can do is cleaning the lens of the player with a Microfiber towel. Do it carefully you don't zero or destroy the lens (dust could be on the lens). After that he try again if it will recognize a DVD.

Otherwise, the disc must be replaced and contact an authorized service provider. Guys can order a compatible drive and replace it. :)

  • Shortcut keyboard Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 - properties will not end

    Dear lovers of Toshiba:

This week, we have installed three new systems of Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 (two L300-153, a L300-156) with recovery media for Windows XP since the L300-156 product (no date on the disc, only two codes: CD 5 124624 and GMR400841EN0).

The machines are beautiful and very effective, except for one problem: when the logout or shutdown Windows XP, the program called 'The Toshiba keyboard shortcut properties' does not stop automatically and opens a dialog "end program". The user may terminate the program immediately by clicking on the button 'End now' or wait until it to expire, after which the system disconnects or terminate normally.

We noticed only after the installation of Service Pack 3 on all machines, so I don't know if the problem was present before SP3 has been applied. (We will be definitely check this on the following system and display the result.) Install the rest updates Windows with Service Pack 3 does not resolve the problem. Not more then that uninstall Toshiba Hotkey Utility by installing the package current, freshly downloaded from the Toshiba support area.

A colleague suggested disabling startup programs. There are two likely choices for this purpose in the startup list + of + msconfig +: * thotkey * and * TFncKy *. Disabling either of these programs allows the disappearance of problem, but the functions of the * Fn keys are lost. The key functions are also lost when uninstalling the Toshiba Hotkey Utility.

My question is of two parts:
    # Comment this problem be solved permanently, or circumvented (other than to say the customer never disconnect & close always the cover to hibernate)?
    # If there is no solution yet, how can a bug report situate with Toshiba, so I can get them the information they need to solve this problem and establish the responsibility?
I will continue to post new information here that I acquire until a permanent solution is reached.

Although this problem seems trivial and 'cosmetic' it's always awkward having to provide new machines customers with such an obvious flaw. It ourselves and Toshiba look bad, especially after that we sold the idea that people avoid problems of this kind to choose a Windows XP on Vista platform.

    Thank you, Robert Phair
    Director.

    > when the logout or shutdown Windows XP, the program called 'The Toshiba keyboard shortcut properties' does not stop automatically and opens a dialog "end program"...
    > We noticed only after the installation of Service Pack 3 on all machines, so I don't know if the problem was present before SP3 has been applied

Problems could be caused by Win XP SP3. I've read several times that SP3 could be not entirely compatible with drivers or 3rd tools
So I guess there is a problem of compatibility between the exe and SP3 files.
By the way; SP3 is not completely released and updated test!

I installed SP3 for some tests on my old non-Toshiba laptop and my work LAN card didn't so it of really possible that SP3 causes this.

    > There are two likely choices for this in the msconfig startup list: thotkey and TFncKy. Disabling either of these programs, the disappearance of the problem, but the functions of the Fn keys are lost

It is clear that the thotkey and TFncKy files belong to applications that control the FN keys, SO if you would disable this in msconfig then buttons would not work.

So, a solution might be a removal of SP3 System.
In addition, you should try to clean the registry and operating system using the free tool like CCleaner.

    > Hope to get a response from an engineer from Toshiba, if there is no monitoring of this forum.
I hope this too, but it seems that this forum is only a user forum.
So if you want to report this behavior for laptop, contact the Toshiba ASP in your country

    See you soon

  • Satellite Pro L20-164 will not launch

Satellite Pro L20 - 164 running Windows XP. Get the initial window (press F2/F12) then just a white screen.
    Any help welcome.

    Hello

You mean that you cannot access the BIOS?
Usually by pressing F2 should lead you to the BIOS settings.
If this is not possible, then a problem of BIOS/motherboard might be reason for that

You are able to boot from the CD?
You can boot from CD by pressing C or F12. By pressing F12 should allow a start on the screen menu. Then you could choose ODD as a boot device.

Checking for interference problems, but it wasn't a problem with the printer DELL nor his blackberry or other devices have been roaming.

    Help, please!

    Thank you

    Hello!

First of all, I would recommend updating the driver WLAN. Maybe on the Toshiba laptop is an older version installed that doesn't recognize all routers. A new driver, you can download it here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

If you are using Vista, you must disable the saving energy of the wireless network card. You can do this in the Vista power management.

Finally, and especially as Akuma said change you channel. Maybe it works.

    Good bye

  • Re: Satellite Pro U400-130 poor quality display on external monitor

    Hello

If I connect an external monitor to the display quality VGA port is quite poor. It looks like a 'grainy twinkle"(sorry hard to describe). I have tried several different monitors and made all the adjustments that I can find. If I increase the contrast to max is not visible, but still the screen is too bright. The internal TFT is perfect.

Have you tried to change the display settings on monitor itself (brightness)?

I have connected to my office two different external screens (19 and 22) to U400, and the image is OK. I really don't understand what makes you so unhappy.

I guess that your HARD drive is defective.
The HARD drive is recognized in the BIOS?

If this is not the case, replace the HARD drive and then try the recovery disk.

  • Satellite PRO L70 - A will not access BIOS

I'm trying to start a UNIX distribution from a USB key, but I can't. I think my problem might be in the BIOS settings, but I can't access the menu configuration.
I tried to push only F2 by pressing F2 with the key Fn, ESC + F1...

I need to enter in this menu or another way to be able to get my laptop to check the USB to boot from it.

    Thank you!!

Thank you for your second comment!

8 Windows and Windows 8.1 system keeps Notepad by default, but the laptop will be defined in hybrid mode stop. This will start the faster machine, but it prevents you to access the BIOS.
So in this case, the laptop should be correctly stopped before attempting to access the BIOS.
