Satellite S1800 100: startup problem

I have a laptop 100 S1800 as a second machine and have recently experienced problems at startup. Food, power & battery LED turns on but nothing happens, no power at all. I have to keep on and off until this finally that she comes to life. Sometimes on stop, he made a series of beeps before stopping.

Hope that makes sense for someone that I'm stumped.

See you soon

Hello

Perhaps there is only one small problem with the power button, but due the beeps it can also be a major hardware failure. In any case, you should take the machine at the service.

Good bye

  • Satellite S1800-814: startup problem, screen is black

I know there are several comments here to point out how the black screen at startup. I think my problem is similar, but I need a few more details.

A year ago, a friend of mine gave me his old laptop, a Satellite 1800-814. I use it mainly as a typewriter and check my email. He could never operate on battery only, longer than for a few seconds, but I've always used it with the connected power cable, no problems. Sometimes it wouldn't start, and I had to unplug the power supply for a while to turn on.

I was visiting someone and wanted to connect to the Internet. They had this USB wireless modem, that I have it plugged into my Toshiba. During installation, the PC froze, and I had to reboot by pressing the button market for some time. He did restart, but at a standstill. I restarted again, sometimes had it works, sometimes not, and ultimately he entered its current state: with the power cord plugged in, it will start, I'll hear the processor fan (or whatever it is) work and the lights of the battery and the power will be green at the bottom of the keyboard.

The screen, however, is black, there not all sounds and ceilings and the insert key lights do not react to what whether - they are permanently gone.

What is happening here? I tried to remove the battery, give it some time and then reinsert, but in vain. I also tried to start it upward with the USB connected modem, no luck there either. What I do have an appointment with the Doc of PC, or can I fix it?

I have really important documents there. Grateful for any help!

Your description is quite long, but I'm still confused. You mixed several questions in the description of the problem and there is no stated clear what happens when you press the button walk / stop.

    Power is ON?
Is there a HARD disk activity?
You see something on the screen?
What happens if you use the power supply only (without the battery inside)?

Sorry, but it is not easy to tell what can be the problem. The best thing you can do is to contact someone with enough experience PC. The person who has the laptop on the desk and try to start this laptop can be more specific about possible problems.

  • Satellite S1800-100 is very slow - should I upgrade RAM?

    Hello

I am running Windows XP with Service Pack 3 on a Satellite 1800-100.

The performance is really bad, worse than when I first purchased and installed XP a few years ago. The current installation of XP is only a few weeks and I don t run a large number of programs in the background - just basically Avira antivirus.
However, when I try to open Firefox or even explore also slow down the machine becomes real and it takes forever to open a program.

I'm already looking for more RAM (128 MB only here right now) but also I can t remember the performance WHICH is bad when I installed XP for the first time.

So I thought that maybe I should upgrade the drivers and installed some drivers of
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU

    But it runs more slowly.
Does anyone have an idea how to top the performance of the laptop in addition to buying more RAM?

Thanks a ton for any suggestion.

    Hello

The upgrade of RAM would bring you even more performance. 128 MB is not a lot of RAM and it should be updated for Windows XP.
As far as I know the laptop supports up to 512 MB of RAM and you need to pass it to 512 MB. Then Windows XP run faster.
You need RAM PC100 with each 256 MB module.

To improve performance, you can do many things. For example defrag your HARD drive, clean the startup folder and the msconfig, disable all services that you need in services.msc, disable Visual effects,.

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite S1800-514, but the tracker pad does not work. Cannot find a driver for it so I can try to reinstall, does anyone know where I can find it. It does not appear as in the Toshiba support page.

    Hello!

If you need drivers for Satellite S1800 you must look in the * archives * on the Toshiba site:

  • Satellite 2430 XP startup problem

Windows XP will not load on my laptop Satellite 2430-402, saying that the C:\Windows\System32\config\system file is missing or damaged and to try to run the option repair.

I have 2 Toshiba Recovery CD which I managed to launch the program of recovery based on the BACK which has 2 options:

1 full restore, I want to do
    2. selective restore, I don't want to do, but have no instructions

I don't seem to have an XP CD, where I could start recovery of Microsoft application.

Can someone give me the steps to undertake a selective recovery of Toshiba (from Symantec) back-based recovery CD?

    Thank you

    Hello

In this case, I'm always ruthless. Back up the data and do fresh install. Then only I am 100% sure that everything works correctly. :)

Anyway, if you want to make new installation with restore CD there are two possibilities:

-Standard mode (any partition is deleted and new operating system installed)
-Expert mode (you can choose which partition you want to install the operating system)

It is very important that there is no repair option. This option you can find on the CD-ROM of Microsoft Windows XP.
There are few opportunities to try to repair your operating system. You can try to replace the faulty system file. Copy the files from another PC system and replace it. I must also tell you that there is no 100% guarantee that it will be successful.
You can also try to provide the Microsoft Windows XP CD-ROM (full version). You may have some success with the repair option.
Next option is to use the Windows Recovery Console. I assume that you have access to a second computer. Click here for instructions that can help you.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314058
This article describes the features and limitations of the Windows Recovery Console. If your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer does not start correctly or if it does not start, you can use the Windows Recovery Console to help you recover your system software.

    Hello
I have a Satellite 2430-101, which has had similar problems.

Seems to me that your computer laptop sometimes Don t recognize your HARD drive.

My suggestion is, if you have another HARD disk, change it to look if the problem persists.

If so, I think that your IDE controller that is responsible for the detection of your HARD drive is damaged.

  • Satellite A-100 Bluetooth problem

    Hello, all!
Had a problem with Bluetooth from the beginning. Computer's in Satellite A100 - 036 (PSAANE), built-in bluetooth. Latest Toshiba Bluetooth stack. The system is Windows XP Home edition SP2 (downgraded from Vista Edition family Basic).
Bluetooth works, but not all functions are available. Most annoying is that I can't get to the internet via my smartphone Nokia 5700. I can send files in two ways using the standard Toshiba bluetooth Manager, but it is impossible to install my phone modem. The system can see the phone and says smth like "Installing moden on port COM40...." ». After that, "year error occurred during automatic installation.

Of course, this is no big deal, but it would be very convenient to use bluetooth - expecially when no data cable is available.

    Anyone with the same problem?

    Thanks in advance!

    Try as follows:
Download the last battery Bluetooth and install it:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/Bluetooth/
Try again. If it is still not resolved then manually configure your DUN.
Section operating instructions of the mentioned Web site offers an instruction how to do it.
The document title is "How to set up GPRS DUN via the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack Custom Mode"
Simply select a different com port for example 44 if the default does not work during the installation process

  • Qosmio F10-100: startup problem - the system protection failure

    Hello

A few days ago, I started my Qosmio QF10-100 and an error, it says:

    Alert: System protection failure.
    Password =...

I 'google' the error nothing helps, the solutions are not compatible with this type of laptop and I'm not going to pay someone to fix it if it's just a simple password.

I would like to know what is the default password, because I'm 100% sure that I have not put it, or if there is other ways to restore. My guarantee is only from 2004-2005, it is out of the question.

Looks like a rare problem, hopefully it's fixable.

    Thank you
    Matt.

    Hello

For me, it looks like a BIOS password has been set. Maybe I m wrong, but in my opinion it should be set a BIOS password or maybe a drive HARD this password which is hard to say.

Unfortunately, if you n t know the password you will not be able to start Notepad :(
But buddy don t worry, the local ASP would be able to remove a BIOS password.

No matter if you warranty is valid or not. You should contact the guy in your country and have to ask for help.

I'm not sure how much it would cost but I n t thinks it might be expensive.

  • Satellite 2540 cds - startup problem

    Hello

They gave me a portable satellite 2540 cds . The laptop does not start because the previous user installed winodws me. I can't go into the bios to change the boot order so I can install windows from scratch.

I don't have the recovery cd so I'm 'tight upward.

What can I do to install windows without recovery cd?

    Any help please!

If you want to do a fresh install of your choice, you can try it on the way to the 'old', with a Startdisc of Windows 98 and an operating system of Windows of your choice.

The Satellite 2540 has a floppy drive * lol *?

  • Satellite S1800-100 HARD drive is not detected

    Hello

I just got an old laptop, the guy who gave me think it had been deleted and the boot sector had to reformat and reload.

However, I booted up in windows 2 k consisting of disc to see that there is no HARD drive detected.
Then I went into the BIOS to see if it was detected he find that it is not.

I just want to check that I have reason to think that the HARD drive is actually dead?

    Hello

It is possible that the HARD drive is faulty, but there may also be placed on the motherboard defective HARD disk controller. If possible, try to get another HARD drive and you will see if the new HARD drive is recognized correctly.

  • Satellite 1800-100 won't start with new memory

My satellite s1800-100 won't start although my new memory (2nd) module is 128 MB PC100.

I have Samsung samsung K4S281632C-TC1H module as PC100 (128 MB) memory on SLOT 1 by default.

Although all of the features and form factors are clean, why not my Satellite S1800-100 starts? I checked the new (slot 2) memory works fine and tested OK.

So, is there as a possibility to have a problem in the 2 Slot? Or is associated with failure of the BIOS? (there is no more recent BIOS, current is 2.20 for Satellite S1800-100).

I am disappointed. I bought a new 128 MB PC100, to insert it in the slot 2, my Toshiba didn't boou up!.

Important note: if I connect the new memory I bought yesterday, works very well in Slot 1.

    Please help and understanding.

    Kind regards...

    Hello

Well, it very difficult to say why it won't start.
I think that there are several possibilities:

(1.) you used a bad module
(2.) the second Bank of the Board of Directors has a malfunction
(3.) the laptop does not support max 256 MB of RAM

I think that point 1 and 3 is not relevant because you have tested the module and it worked on the first location. Additional the laptop should be able to handle 2 x 256 MB memory, so you should be able to use 2 x 128 MB

I think that the second ram location may have a malfunction.
Please check the second slot with a module of memory.

The second possibility is to use exactly the module which is recommended by Toshiba.
    As I remember it s PC100 128 MB (PA3005U) SDRAM

    Hello
I use my Toshiba Satellite S1800-100 with Accupoint II Touchpad.

But when I do not use the touchpad, the pointer moves itself. I use Windows XP Professional and tried to disable the option "Enhance pointer precision" in the properties of the mouse, but it still happens. I use the XP driver internal standard mouse PS/2.

I also contacted Toshiba support team,

    Any idea?

    Thanks from now.

    Hello

I had the same problem on my Tecra M1. First of all, I tried to remove the blue cover since the pointer of the mouse and remove dust. Unfortunately, it was not better and I made contact with the technicians. The result was changed to keyboard. The pointer of the mouse was defective. Now, I have no problem.

I recommend you to swap the keyboard.

  • A few problems with the Satellite U920T-100

    Hi guys,.

my girlfriend ordered a Toshiba Satellite U920T-100 about three months ago and she had problems with it since. We're not quite sure what causes because they seem to happen randomly.

    The questions are:
-It starts, but it freezes at the Win8 connection with a blue screen (a rather hot blue, no blue screen of death)
-It starts not at all, only after a few attempts
    -It will not stop
-It freezes all by organizing files (for example copy of files from A to B, but not yet large amounts of files)

New: these questions seem to be completely appearing randomly, I wasn't able to reproduce them in any way.

Also: WLAN connectivity is really bad.
The laptop is not able to find networks, while my laptop has no problem with it.
And when he finds them and connect, the connection be lost - once again: no idea why.

That surprises me the most, because in tests and comments that I've read that connectivity has been praised everywhere.

    I have reset factory?
    Run through some specific tests?
Or is is hopeless, because there are so many problems with it?

    I'd appreciate your help!

    Hello

    > I should factory reset it?

I think you should do that because the issue described can be related to system problems, but also hardware problem (HARD drive for example). The resumption of the factory allows you to check if its software or hardware related problem.

Usually, all the problems of software (System) could be solved by the recovery process. Hardware problems would continue.

From my point of view, the recovery of the system is the first step, you should try to solve the problem.
In case this is not enough, a hardware problem (RAM or HARD disk) is possible, and given that the laptop is still under warranty, I recommend you contact the service to check the unit.

Hope my advice might help you a bit

  • error 0 x 00000024 on Satellite Pro 100

    Hello

I have an old Satellite Pro 100, handed one to nine.
I was loading a .iso file when my laptop crashed.
    I restarted to get to a blue screen with the error message 0 x 00000024, followed (0x001902FE, 0xFX7AAF380, 0xF7AAF07C, 0x86E74805).

He told me to restart the laptop and run chkdsk /f in command.
I started in safe mode with cmd, cancelled stpd.sys, which caused my laptop down and ran chkdsk/c (check) before I ran chkdsk /f (fix). It worked very well.
I then input the command chkdsk /f and cmd said that he could not access and lock on the drive. He asked if I wanted to run chkdsk /f on the next startup. I said yes and then restarted.
It came with the blue screen again, so I held the switch to turn it off, and then turned back on.
I loaded in safe mode with cmd and cancelled loading stpd.sys.
This time, there was a longer break, and I assumed that the laptop was running the command chkdsk/f function.
The laptop has rebooted spontaneously after that she 'finished', as far as I could tell, but once again to the front blue screen.
I also tried to use the command chkdsk /r (resolve), but that froze just of the laptop.
When I restarted the laptop, he returned to the blue screen.

Can someone tell me how to solve this problem, preferably without wiping my HARD drive, I read on websites who told me to use the chkdsk/f above method proposed my blue screen?

    Thanx

    Hi mate,

First of all, it would be interesting to know what model Satellite Pro 100, you exactly. Satellite Pro A100, Satellite Pro L100 or something else?

It's not easy to tell why you get thses blue screens, but have you tried a system restore to an earlier point? You can do this in the advanced boot menu (F8) where you can also choose Safe mode, etc.
    Check this box!

If this doesn t work I think you need to reinstall Windows. If there is a recovery disc supplied with your laptop you can use. This disk can restore factory in a few minutes and your laptop should work properly again. :)
